I needed to repaint my bumper in the summer of 2015 and I took it here to get it done. First off, it took them over two weeks to get it done, nearly three weeks, when I was told it would take about 4 to 5 days. What really annoyed me was they didn't start on my car until about over a week and a half later. I knew because I live near the place and pass through the area after work often enough to see my car left parked in the street with no work done on it for over a week. I had deadline & needed the car back for insurance inspection, I told them this, which may have lead to a rushed job. When I finally got the car back, the paint job looked fine, but the paint job did not last.
In 9-10 months, with winter coming to an end, the paint started chipping and peeling. A whole piece of the new paint chipped off leaving about an inch and a half long crater on the top edge of the bumper & from there you can see the OLD paint. The fact that I can see the old paint in the crater/crack means that they did not sand off the old paint before applying primer, then new paint (I believe that's the proper prep work), which have likely cause the paint to chip and fall apart (see pic). Not soon after there was splitting in the middle bumper (see pic). The paint was also falling apart along the top bumper guard (see pic). They basically just spray painted over the old paint seemingly without proper prepping which is really half-assed of them.
Before I had the time to bring the car back to 63 auto to show them the falling apart paint job, bad luck struck. Someone hit my bumper while my car was parked, scratching off some paint exposing the primer in center of the bumper. The very next day I bought the car back to 63 AUTO and showed the guy that looked at my car, I believe his name was Vincent.. or Victor.. something with a "V", that the new paint had been chipping, splitting and peeling off and also the day before someone damaged my bumper. I pointed out the crater exposing the old paint and the paint falling apart under the top bumper guard and made it clear that they were the ones that did this job. His response was "well, you have to repaint the bumper anyway." I guess because someone hit my bumper he IGNORED the fact that their paint job was ALREADY falling apart before that anyway. I mean I would have had to get the entire bumper repainted anyway because their paint job was falling apart even before my bumper got damaged by someone else. I didn't want to argue about it (I know a couple of people that works there and didn't want to put them in a spot) and he didn't seem too sorry about it. I wasn't lying either because the areas falling apart are clearly not areas that normally gets damaged by another car, there were CLEARLY signs of it just falling apart on it's own. Afterwards, he quoted me about over $750 to redo the bumper, that's over DOUBLE of what I had paid for the first time they did my bumper. I said "I paid way less than that last time for the same job, about $350."He then spoke to PJ and the quote went down to $500, which is still more than what I paid for, for the SAME EXACT JOB they did poorly.
I was going to have them re-do it anyway, but then I thought about it, why should I pay them again and risk a another bad job, especially since they want to charge me more. Plus I didn't want to deal with the wait & the BS of them telling me they're working on it again & again, when they actually weren't. Now that I think back about it, I think they tried to charge me $500 because i told them I have a $500 deductible with my insurance, & then milk the extra $250 from my insurance to get $750, for the $350 job they screwed up I stress.
I took it to another shop and they see the crater and the paint falling apart under the top bumper guard. They think 63 auto didn't properly prep the bumper before spraying anything on it. From where the new paint has chipped off, they can see the old paint was still smooth to the touch, shiny and reflective in appearance, which apparently meant that they did not sand the old paint enough so that the primer would stick, leading to the paint chipping and peeling off over time in random spots. That shop said if they do it, they have to sand everything down to the bumper and re-primer it. They don't know what 63 Auto did. If they just sand and spray over the work 63Auto did, whatever's under that layer may will likely peel and crack over time. Basically you shouldn't spray paint over a surface that's falling apart in random places, it will just fall apart with the new paint and be a waste of money.
I gave 63 auto a chance to see how they would handle it but they were not apologetic about their paint job falling apart or even acknowledge or admitted to it and did not expressed any sense of responsibility, INSTEAD they want to charge me WAY more than what I had paid for, for the same job THEY DID. read more
