Pretty much the same quality and experience that I've had over at 61C in Squirrel Hill. Pros: good coffee, cool decor with character, love the little winding staircase at the back of the building; cons: only 1 (maybe 2- couldn't really see) electrical outlet on the entire wall (the others are even plugged up, as if they didn't want to provide that service to patrons), poor quality of furniture, not very quick service. A little out of my way geographically, so I probably wouldn't travel this far to go here again. read more

61B Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This place is a must on this side of the city if you want a coffee, latte or smoothie. The drinks are delicious and the snacks are great. Cookies, scones and the muffins are huge, fresh, and better than anything you can buy at the store. read more

61B Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This is not a fair review, but directed at one barista in particular. I went here last night and met with a wonderful and friendly gentleman who was lovely. He alerted us when there was 30 min before close and we were all out of there by 5 till. The girl tonight was the complete opposite. She was fine enough, but you could tell from the moment I walked in, at 8pm (1hr before close) she was short with me, didn't want me there, alerted us all when it was 45 min till close. Then again 30 min till close. Then 15. Then 8. Listen, that's excessive. Then she had the balls to shout at me "have a good night!" To rub it in. I work in the service industry, I know exactly the game you're playing. You've made my night really stressful actually, so thank you. I will never go back while that girl is working..... read more

Went for a self indulgence treat of Hot Chocolate with whipped cream... So disappointing. It was hot warm brown water.. Maybe I would try again.. Maybe not... read more

I come here pretty often to have a nice cup and a scone. They make a great cortado, and the cinnamon scones are excellent! I also love the atmosphere. They're my favorite local coffee shop, and it's not close. read more

Having worked in a coffee shop - I absolutely love it when I can find a great coffee shop that serves coffee right! The staff is wonderful, the food is yummy, and the fresh juice drinks are amazing! This is a place everyone should go to! read more

This gets a solid a-ok rating in my book. I've never had a problem with rude staff and am actually surprised to see those reviews. I've always had pleasant interactions with the staff there! The inside is cute and there is plenty of seating, even if it is a little bit crowded. A pretty big tea list which is always nice and its easy to find an outlet to plug your device into. I think my biggest problem with it, is that it seems like a kids cafe at times. Like the R.Square My Little Outback. There are kids that go there after school and wait there until someone comes to pick them up, so they are there unattended, doing their kid thing. A lot of moms will also meet there with their kids. Great gathering place for them, but sometimes they aren't paying attention to their kids and the children begin getting loud and unruly. I've always wondered why not just take the coffee to a park and let the kids run around, rather than confine them to the coffee shop. I once was trying to study for an exam with a woman who stayed in the coffee with a baby screaming for 45 minutes. The entire coffee shop emptied out while she played on her phone and tried to shush the baby. So I can't recommend this place for a relaxing cup of coffee or a good place to study but it's a good spot to take kids if other peoples kids don't bother you! read more

Visited for the first time today. It's a good-looking space, and the coffee is good. Nice selection of pastries. I had a chocolate chip muffin that was so-so -- a little bland and dry. I'll try a scone or croissant next time. As others have mentioned, the tables are tiny. At first I thought that was okay because smaller tables = more tables = room for more patrons. But they are so close together that even though each table has two chairs, there's really only room for one person per table. Also, the chairs are very uncomfortable. Finally, I really hope that at some point soon the management will join us in the 21st century and ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. It has potential, and it's great to have a coffee place in this area, but Biddle's Escape is not much further away, and it's cozier, and they do accept cards. read more

I am really enjoying the newest coffee shop in Regent Square. Pros- delicious coffee drinks. Amazing house baked pastries. The chocolate croissants are the best I ever had. Cons-cash only. It's the 2010's. read more

Solid little cafe on the main drag of Regent Square. They make a pretty good, strong coffee and their scones are made fresh in-house. There are many tables and ample outlets along the wall if you want to bring your work with you. They only take cash, so leave your American Express™ at home. read more

61B Cafe - $3.00 cappachino. With maybe an ounce in the cup!! Oh and go to ATM machine first, no debit cards. Ah no... never again!!! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I really liked 61B cafe until ... recently ... they change the cups and they leak ... a lot. Not a big deal if you stay at the store: you can ask for another one. Also, the lids are very thin and not the same at it used to be. So, the coffee spills easily around ... This is so inconvenient when you take your coffee in your car ... good luck for keeping it clean! Also, the size of the pastries decreased seriously while the price stay the same. They are good but now, clearly overpriced. The coffee is also clearly overpriced, I paid more than $2 for something that looks like a small coffee in any other coffee shop in Pittsburgh. Last thing: this is a cash only place ... Common guys, let's be serious, everybody takes the credit card now ... and you have so many solutions to take the card ... at the prices you charge the coffee, there is a lot of margin to pay the credit card processing fees ... read more

A consistently good coffee experience with all of the necessities, including good music played not too loud, inviting furniture that does not put you to sleep and friendly staff. I withheld a fifth star due to it being cash only. For its' proximity to the park, I would suspect that they could do more business if they catered to the bike/running short mini pocket crowd... read more

I have yet to try anything here that wasn't excellent. Coffee, espresso, and tea have all been fantastic. Prices are very reasonable. Staff has been friendly and helpful every time I've visited. Nice decor, it's a pleasant, quiet spot without the obnoxious hipster atmosphere of my other neighborhood shop (that I no longer patronize). The only negative is that they don't take cards, but something that insignificant is almost not worth mentioning. read more

An unpleasant experience elsewhere, just made me appreciate my visit to 61B this week even more. I stopped in and eyed up a tuna sandwich on everything bagel. It's literally been years since I've eaten tuna from a restaurant. The girl sold me when she said "it's so good and just made fresh this morning". Then I go to pay and realize no cash, only a card. She told me it's cash only but I could pay next time. What an amazing moment of rare customer service. I expected her to direct me to a debit machine "a few blocks away" but nope, in that moment she made my day and likely a new "regular"! And, that tuna sandwich was the BEST I've ever had anywhere!!! Outstanding service and food, as always! See you next week. Thanks for spreading happiness and good vibes. read more

Very nice and quite place close to Frick park to have a coffee and get some work done. Staff are great and very nice. Coffee is good but could be better and pastry/bagel options can be improved. One of my favorite spots to spend a weekend morning after a nice walk at the park. read more

I always go to 61B since it's close to my bus stop and a fun place to go with my friends. But today on Friday October 16th 2020 me and my sister went after my school so at around four and we both ordered iced lattes I ordered mine with caramel and she didn't; we ended up getting a hot caramel latte and a hot chocolate we also ordered two mayles (not sure of spelling) but only were given one. On top of that it took forever for the things to get made. I overall have no complains about the establishment but mainly that employee read more

My chai latte with soy milk was one of the best I've had in a while--it was spicy and you could taste the tea. It was also served in a real ceramic mug. The colors in this cafe are really appealing--grey floors, natural wood chairs. Beautiful glass jars filled with baked goods and sweets line the bar. Young people are sprinkled throughout, working on their laptops, indie music is playing on the overhead speakers. I could almost imagine 61B in NYC. The 61B ambiance and concept make this place more sophisticated than most cafés in the city. Come here for the atmosphere and experience in addition to the coffee. read more

The coffee was very good but the service wasn't the best. The gal and only employee wasn't very friendly or personable. The tables are a little rickety and close together. They do have free wifi, so that was awesome. It was a nice day so they had garage door-style windows open. Very cool. I'd return but would hope it was a bit more inviting in terms of service. read more

I like this place. Very reasonable prices, staff is fine, and lots of seating and plugs for anyone who want to read, study, etc. Nice, calm atmosphere with delicious looking food. Oh- and their mocha is really tasty! read more

When I go to a cafe,I judge the quality of the place by judging the decor, the price, the food quality and the service. When I go to a coffee shop,I judge it by the decor and service, since coffee and price are usually comparable across a variety of locations. The decor of 61B is fine, with the exception that the tables are too small and crowded,as someone else has said. Service? I went to two coffee shops while I was visiting in Pittsburgh this week. One was in the Strip, where I was greeted as an old friend and treated as a guest. I tried 61 B Cafe twice. On my first visit, the coffee was fine, the setting was OK,but the young lady who was the only employee, was sour and unwelcoming. She acted as if she didn't want to be there. If I owned 61B ,I would make sure that was the case. I tried it a second time, yesterday, thinking that maybe she was having a bad day on Monday, but it was no better. My advice? Stay in college and go to law school. You don't have much of a career in customer service! read more

First time at 61B got myself a mocha latte and a red velvet biscotti. Very nice interior. Great selection of teas and pastries and other baked goods. Latte and biscotti were amazing! Can't wait to try out the smoothies. Only downside is cash only. read more

One can enjoy a good cup of joe and tasty treat here any time of the year. The staff is great. Always pleasant and accommodating. I came in for a simple OJ for my son while waiting for a table at D's. I walk away with a cup of freshly squeezed, literally, OJ, and out-of-this-world chocolate cookie. My partner and I have been here a few times for a quiet cup of tasty coffee and conversation. Only drawback is parking. However, I assume this is more frequented by neighborhood regulars that can walk here before catching the bus in the morning, or those going to university, who can sit and work quietly at one of the tables and walk home afterward. I would definitely still try to hit it up if you live out of the area though. It's a nice place to go to sit and reacquainte with an old friend, read a book, or just enjoy some "you" time. read more

I went in here with some friends and it was pretty nice. I am only leaving 4 stars because it is cash only. A nice, quiet coffee spot. I would say it is best for independent work rather than a social gathering or meeting. My partner has to limit caffeine intake and the barista suggested a decaf Americano. He was pleased with the drink. I had a lavender earl grey tea and it was delicious. The chocolate chip cookie was good, but average. Definitely try the lavender tea. read more

61B is a great spot for delicious coffee. Surprisingly, the smoothies/juices are freshly made (with actual fruits and vegetables) and absolutely delicious as well - I usually go for a smoothie to avoid being tempted by one of the huge cookies that look equally amazing. I've sat and done work there a couple of times, and the atmosphere is quiet, bright, and pleasant. I especially like that I don't get that 'coffee shop smell' that often permeates my clothes at Coffee Tree Roasters... read more

Their cookies are amazing! Coffee was beyond fantastic. And the price is oddly cheap. Overall a very cute, cozy, and nestles cafe.

My wife loves their cinimon scones and I like their snicker doodle and gingersnap cookies. Staff is super nice every time we stop by on our walks. Glad they are in our neighborhood read more

Pros: -window where you can order coffee if you're also walking a dog! (although this hasn't been open on some of the times I've tried...) -vast improvement over previous place, pretty interior with nice coffee counter -good coffee Cons: -tables are awkward & too small -place could be warmed up a little bit - no credit cards!! I'm glad they used natural materials & made some good interior design decisions, but it's not quite hitting the mark yet. I think the floor is the biggest problem -- cafeteria style linoleum. My suggestion would be even with say a big round rag rug in the middle of the room near the counter! Something to warm it up a bit. Overall, very glad it's in the 'hood. read more

Meh. No refills on the iced tea? And terrible attitude when I asked about it? This place has the ingredients for a great cafe but not the love and respect of a customer to put it together. Regent Square is one of my teen stomping grounds of youth so I would love to see a business thrive here. But until service improves, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

This is basically the 61C, edition 2. It's what I would consider a major upgrade from the previous tenant of this location, Katerbean. The proprietors have taken what was a grubby, dark spot and turned it into something kind of adorable. I really like the look of the joint, and the quality of goods is the same as their other location. My only complaint is the cash-only deal. It especially irks me now that their pricing does not include tax, which guarantees that I'll receive odd amounts of change as opposed to round numbers. A minor quibble -- but I'll pay an extra dime a cup of coffee if you offer me the option of using Square. read more

I've been going here a couple of years and while I think there were some friedliness issues before, the staff is pretty friendly now. Plus, and most importantly, the coffee is high quality. And the place is nice. The fresh croissants are the best around, get those every time. Cash only-ness is the only drawback, but I like them enough to keep a five on me since I live in the area. One of the best coffee shops in the east end in my opinion. read more

I'm new to the area and have been visiting this coffee shop regularly for the past 2 months. The staff is always friendly and the coffee is good. I like that they always have a light roast and dark roast brewing. Make sure to bring cash because they are cash only. Also, grab a salted caramel biscotti because they are delicious. read more

Great coffee with even better sweats for a long study session or a place to sit and chat with friends. Reminder - cash only.

I am done with this place - waited for the two employees to finish their conversation before they even looked at me and asked for my order. Place is cramped with tiny tables and very uncomfortable chairs. Still refuse to take credit cards - just not a place that makes one feel comfortable. Been there several times and doesn't really seem that ownership cares to cater to their clientele. read more

I love this place and always use it as my go to when I want to get work done. The staff is super personable and friendly (especially Chris and except for one woman). There's free wifi and plenty of room to sit with access to outlets. The tunes they play are usually pretty mellow, but I like to bring my headphones just in case. Also, be sure to bring cash because they don't take cards :( that's the only big downside. read more

Cool decor but that's about it. Not enough easily accessible parking. Why dont you take credit cards? It can get packed quickly. City Cafe is just down Edgewood ave, its a better coffee house atmosphere for studies. read more

The first time I went in I was very much looking forward to supporting a local business and finding something closer to me, instead of going to Starbucks. My experience could not possibly have been any more unpleasant. The woman that waited on me was terribly unfriendly, rude, and made zero attempts to engage in any positive interaction. My coffee was not the best and I left there completely turned off and unwilling to go back. A few weeks later I decided to try it again....simply because it is the most convenient coffee shop to me. And as I said, I enjoy supporting local business. The second time, a younger male waited on me and the experience was totally different. I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, he cared about what he was making for me, and he wanted to be sure I was happy with my order. I returned a 2nd time and had the same young man take my order....again it was a terrific experience. Today I was talking with a neighbor. Before I told my story about the first visit she cut me off and said "Went 1 time - TERRIBLE experience - and I will NEVER give them my business again." She described the same woman that I had a bad experience with. I am reading these reviews and seeing a pattern. I plan to call and talk with management because clearly there are people that would go back and support this establishment, if only all of the employees cared about their customers. I sincerely hope that the one particular woman that is consistently the problem is NOT the manager....but something tells me she is. read more
