I haven't been in years and we thought we'd try it since we were in the area. Everyone was very friendly there. We ordered the brisket, chicken and turkey. Brisket was pretty good and same with the chicken. Turkey didn't have much flavor and was a little dry. We also got the Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and corn bread which were all extremely dry and no flavor. fries weren't good either. But the rice crispy treats were tasty. I mean it is Valentine's Day and they were slammed so that could be why. But I think we'll stick to Sean's smokehouse when it comes to BBQ. read more

Being a girl raised in the south by a southern food cooking mother and a real barbecuing father (cuz I'm sorry but utah s calling hot dogs and hamburgers a BBQ is just sad), I can say that this is legit BBQ! The brisket is second to none in Utah, and I've been to many a BBQ joints all over the state. I don't usually eat pork anymore, but I just could not resist after seeing my friends' piles of steaming pulled pork on their plates and sandwiches. Went in today and got the student special! Which is a killer deal btw. I got the brisket with mac &a cheese, and homemade chips. The mac & cheese was bland, the homemade chips would've been soooo awesome if they weren't so salty. I wanted the marbled brisket because dry brisket is the WORST...but the server just threw some on there and when I asked for different meat she looked at me with disgust. So I just told her it was fine and carried on. In the end, the meat was dry. I'll give this place another shot, but hoping that the service will be better. read more

I was treated to a catered lunch at work from 5 Star BBQ so I cannot comment on restaurant or waitstaff. The food was top notch. We were given brisket, chicken, cornbread, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and rice crispy treats. For me, brisket is always the star of the show when it comes to BBQ. If your brisket sucks, I can't look past it. Luckily, their brisket is on point and on past with other local chains. The chicken was peppery and juicy. Almost too much pepper for my liking. Five Star has gone through some ups and downs as they apparently try to fine tune things. For me, the original when they opened was the best. That said, they still have excellent everything, and the best sides around. I've just downgraded because I can't get a beer, and the others are at 4 star because of that. This is one of those places that people might drive by because it doesn't look like every other chain location in the world. It's an old house that has been repurposed with room for groups upstairs. I didn't even sauce it. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone--but still with a great texture. On Friday and Saturday after 5 they have prime rib. I want to be clear: this is not usually the cut I go for. Usually it's a little too fatty for my taste. This prime rib is the best I've ever had. Delicious. Perfect texture. It's expensive ($29.99) but so worth it. If you like horseradish, ask them for some of the real stuff they use in the back. Va-va-boom. Of course, there are also sides. Plates come with one or two meats and a choice of truly yummy looking options. My husband and I ordered online, and when I went to pick it up they didn't have it on file but they took the money from us anyways. I talked with the manager and they said that they were actually out of what we ordered and that we could have store credit but they refused to send us any type of confirmation we could use to get the store credit. And by send us any type of confirmation I mean like an email or some thing that we could use so that we could prove to whoever we tried to order with next that we had store credit! And of course whenever we called and tried to order again they had no record of us having store credit. I'm a big fan of bbq so can get picky. This place can definitely get pricy but it's worth every penny. I got brisket, pulled pork, Cajun sausage, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, fries and pickles. All of this was plenty for 4 people and we had left overs. All the meats were fantastic, flavorful and juicy. Macaroni and cheese was flavorful and creamy. Potato salad was the best I've had. Best BBQ in Utah Valley in my opinion. I never was big into BBQ because I didn't enjoy gnawing on dry meats. But this place is the perfect done-ness. Succulent pulled pork and brisket WOW. If you don't believe me then try for yourself and ask for a sample. They have something called the Brunswick Stew which is just lots of meat in a BBQ-y soup (as accurate as I can depict). Worth a try as a side to your meat platter. We've also tried their peanut butter Nutella cookie which hit the sweet tooth craving after a savory and meaty meal. Three stars is fairly generous for my experience today. Depending on what element of the restaurant visit you find most important this could be two or maybe even a one star. The good: The sides were delicious. The sauce options were plentiful and flavorful. Promptness of service was good and we were offered a sample of one of the meats. The bad: The "marbled" brisket seemed like maybe it was from yesterdays cook. It was tough and dry despite appearing to be from the "point" portion of the brisket. The sausage that we sampled in line was juicy and flavorful, the sausage we were served was less so. There were A LOT of flies inside. Like a lot. The soda machine stopped dispensing ice and rather than unclog the ice chute they just put up an out of order sign. The soda dispenser still worked fine and the drink was cold. My sister and I visited this place today and ordered a brisket salad and a two meat meal. The employee that took our order was friendly. The restaurant was pretty much a mess, there were only four customers in the place when we came in (late afternoon) non of the tables had been bussed, we cleaned our own table off before we could sit. This place appears to be a dirty hole in the wall because its on Geneva, but don't be tricked! This place is amazing. I've enjoyed their pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. All of their meats all delicious, and I dont think you can go wrong. They probably have the best pulled pork in Utah though, so I would recommend that if you had to choose. As far as sides go, I am a big fan of all of the sides, but the baked beans are my favorite. They are always packed with flavor and are a little spicy. Went in for a quick dinner with my parents tonight and we were not disappointed. My parents got brisket sandwiches and I got the two meat plate with brisket and chicken. My mom didn't love the Mac and Cheese, but the fries were delicious and the cornbread was a great texture, partnering perfectly with their yummy honey butter. I especially loved the service. I was able to order to eat there and get a take out meal for my husband. The girl serving the meat was friendly and outgoing - she let us sample each meat before ordering because it was our first time. Even though I chose the brisket and chicken, the spicy sausage sample was also very good. Last note, the sauce variety was great. The hot sauce is HOT, but it was probably my favorite. An amazing bbq place to me is 1) amazing sauce, 2) tender meat, and 3) amazing slaw. This place has them all. I particularly enjoy the DaveAnderson: Opened faced pulled pork sandwich atop of garlic toast and blanketed with slaw. One of the best combinations ever invented right there. My husband and I ordered the 2 meat plates and the only thing that came warm was our fries which was a side. Even my kids half sandwich meals didn't even come with a bun, and when they brought the bun it was super hard and burnt, so we wasted money on that because my kids didn't even eat it because the bread was so hard. This place ranks right up there with the best of them! I would dare say that this is the best BBQ in Utah County, if not all of Utah. The thing about this place is while the meat and sauce is amazing the sides are also fantastic. The employees are also very friendly. Very happy and pleasant even when the place is packed and there is a line out the door. Speaking of the line, even when the line is out the door they get you through very quickly. Five Star is one of my favorite BBQ joints in the county. They've got a new, simplified menu which makes ordering easier than it used to be. You can choose from their smoked chicken, pulled pork, ribs or their fabulous beef brisket... or you can combine them all by ordering their 'sauced' meat. Yum! You just can't make a bad choice here. But don't stop yet. Now you get to select one (or more) side items. I am smitten with their mac & cheese, so that's my go-to side item. Whenever I have branched out and tried other things, I've been pleased. I imagine you will be, too. Perhaps best of all is their sauce selection. You will probably see a couple of bottles at your table when you sit down. Don't be fooled into thinking those are your only choices! Look to the right of the soft drink dispenser and you'll see a small fridge stocked with a dozen different sauces for you to explore; each one is clearly labeled. Dark Chili and Kinda Hot are two of my favorites, but there are so many yummy treasures in there for you to find and I won't ruin the surprise by naming them all. You get a lot of food here. The portions are definitely generously sized. When you first walk in and look at the menu, it's easy to think this is an expensive place to eat. Brisket- pretty good on the lean side but somewhat dry. Pulled pork- just right. And a pretty decent portion. Baked beans- the bomb! Pieces of meat chopped up inside. Sweet with a lot of flavor. Mashed potatoes- almost seasoned too much, but still really good. Mac N Cheese- fairly simple, cheesy and delicious. Not overpowering. There honey butter is really good even though there cornbread is Meh. Out of all of the sauces my favorite is the sweet. It works well with everything. Not too shabby Happy Valley.... Typically we avoid this end of the valley (for obvious reasons.... J/K.... GO cougars!.... Not really) but it's nice to know that there is decent bbq to be had. We came on a Saturday night during peak hours and the place was pretty dead, which both delighted and horrified us. The staff was very helpful and friendly and allowed us to sample several of the meats before we made our choice. We decided on The Burly (around $27) which includes 4oz of each of the meats, plus ribs, plus 3 sides, a very decent value for what you are getting. We chose creamed corn, mashed potatoes, beans, and since they were almost out of beans we were offered a fourth side which ended up being a stew of some sort. The results: Of all of the meats, the chicken actually had the best flavor. They were out of the fatiest brisket, but it was still decent. The pulled pork was pretty standard. The ribs, which I typically prefer to eat dry, came already coated in a thin layer of something sweet. They weren't exactly fall off the bone, but they were good, and the chef even through in a few extra for us! Good man. As for the sides, the clear winner for me was the creamed corn. This is the first time I can remember eating creamed corn and now I'm probably ruined forever on anyone else's but theirs.... Diabolical. The mashed potatoes needed something more like gravy or a giant Mound of butter. The baked beans were thick and not overly sweet, which I appreciate. The bf loved the stew the best, I thought it had an odd flavor I couldn't identify. The meal also came with corn bread that was also sadly devoid of the butter Mound. Overall, we both left full and satisfied with leftovers for us, and rib bones for our "kids" at home. read more
