When I walked in here first thing I noticed is it looked very rundown, with cramped seating and bad lighting. Their property uptown on Northern has more light but also has a poor design, layout and furnishings. The server staff was also grumpy and below average like the other location. I like the 50s retro diner concept but this chain doesn't deliver unless you're filming a horror movie. The best of this genre I've eaten at is Bings Burger Station in Cottonwood. read more

Fresh pot being brewed for me so 4 minutes (and thank you). Food ordered with fear of my sour tummy. It's been sour for too long. Anyhow grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad and a couple of removals (tomato due to acidity, ez mayo). Beyond hit the spot. David in the kitchen nailed a simple yet delicious chicken sandwich which is actually hard to pull off (dry, lacking flavor, slightly undercooked) but David killed. I'm finally eating a full meal thanks to him. I got my butt up and tipped David a 20 spot. As the big Arn said "I'll be back". Yelp - if you don't value my review then kick rocks. First to say our server Kevin a.k.a. Spike who has worked there for 17 years was just awesome On the other hand my sister, mom and I went there because it was recommended by someone we know. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries and one with potato chips . My sister ordered the French dip. This is our opinion but the meat tasted like it was from Steak Ums. This is a processed steak which is horrible so as you can tell from my writing we did not enjoy the sandwiches at all the fries were excellent the pickles were excellent the chocolate shake and vanilla shake and raspberry tea was great but the main food was not worth writing about. They do give senior discounts (if you meet the requirements) be sure to ask for it. We are going to give this place one more time in the future to be posted at a later date. read more

My mom and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. There's no shade to speak of in the parking lot and minimal shade outside in the seating area but it's a cute little retro place anyway and my mom was dying to try it. I have a few things to kind of lay out about our trip here: 1. If you're COVID conscious you won't be comfortable here. It's small and cramped. Despite the plexiglass between the booths I was uncomfortable. All of the servers and staff were wearing masks and had gloves on though so that was nice to see despite the tight quarters. It was too hot to sit outside but I imagine during the cooler months it's a great place to sit. 2. Cool retro vibe but kind of dingy. The memorabilia and retro style is great and makes for nice conversation but the place is in desperate need of a deep clean (like a very very deep clean from floor to ceiling) and some new paint. 3. Service is fantastic but food is mediocre. All of the staff were great! The food was pretty much the same you can get anywhere else though. On the same level of Denny's or IHOP really. I likely won't be back but my mom probably will as she enjoyed her breakfast skillet. I could probably be talked into going again when it's cooler and we can sit outside as the staff really made the experience but otherwise I won't go back. read more

Suuuuuuper long wait for our meal during the least busiest time of the night (the wee morning). My tenders and sweet potato fries were great while the others in my group weren't as satisfied with their meals. The eggs that came from the breakfast were horrible. My friend insisted that they came from eldest chicken in the coop; very dry and unflattering to say the least. One would think that you couldn't go wrong with a hot dog except it did. The breakfast here hands down is sooo yummy. Total old school diner food that tastes homemade. Their country fried steak with gravy was sooooo good and the pancakes were so moist! This spot is a super cute vintage feel that takes you back to what the 50's must have been like! Cute little outdoor tables with striped tables. We went here for a little dessert after dinner... The jukebox at our table wasn't working but such a cute touch at each of the tables!! Highly recommend- Strawberry milkshake! Literally delicious!!! Onion rings were also surprisingly delicious. Upon first bite, I found it to be well seasoned and had the perfect amount of batter. Truly the crisp on that onion ring was delicious. I was genuinely impressed. Others had the waffle sundae, a mocha shake and an apple crumble sundae which looked pretty good. ALERT- cinnamon is a standard on all ice cream! Five stars to Three... My family and I go here fairly often, but this is changing. The food is still good and the servers are still AMAZING and work their butts off, and the turnoffs are not their fault. First, the place is in need of some TLC. It's starting to show its age and could use a renovation, not just a cleanup. Next, and the biggest turnoff, is the new 8% mandatory (and surprise) gratuity that goes straight to the OWNERS pocket. Aparently there is a sticker on the menus about this, but we missed it. You still have to tip your server separately. Our server says it is "so the owner doesn't raise prices". I would have felt better about this if the owner just raised the prices. I really hope this goes away because until then, I doubt we will be going back. read more

We got lucky as we were seated right away on a late Sunday morning. Inside, every other table was blocked off to allow for social distancing, as well as every other barstool at the counter. They also had outdoor seating, as well. I had the eggs & corned beef hash, and a single pancake for a side. The food was delicious for the most part, the pancake was cold and a bit stale, but still tasty in flavor and Im not super picky so I ate it. My lemonade was good, and I was impressed with Kevin being on top of refills, including my friend's coffee--which never really got below a half cup. In fact, Kevin had heard me slurp the last of my first glass of lemonade and was quick to turn around while bussing a nearby table to ask me if I wanted a refill. How's that for paying attention? My friend enjoyed his steak bomblette as well, so I will definitely be back to try more menu items. read more

They came out quickly and were delicious. I deducted a star due to asking for really pink on my burger and I got well done. Other than that the food was good. I would like to tell you about my first encounter with Tammy. The first time I ever went to the 5 & Diner it was with a group of Hispanics, Afro-Americans and LGBTQ. This was after we all came from karaoke. As a group, we were a little noisy singing the songs from karaoke. The Waitress) Tammy a blonde came to our table to take our order. She could have been rude and ask us to leave if we didn't keep the noise down but she had a great attitude (Friendly and Cheerful) and was actually listening to what we were singing and told us that she had a playlist of the artist songs that we were singing. She took her playlist and played it through the restaurant sound system. So we got to listen to all our favorite songs by our favorite artists for at least a couple of hours. Once things quiet down a little she came over to our table and started to talk to all of us, not ignoring anyone. I am Afro-American and a senior and right then and there I decided this was going to be my restaurant. I just thought Tammy was the coolest. I have been coming here for two years now and I have never seen Tammy treat anyone rude. I was just there tonight and there was a customer who had finished his meal and was sitting on the bench outside of the restaurant asleep and Tammy was very concerned, so she went and checked on him to make sure he was okay and alive. That's the kind of person I would want as a waitress. I have to say the 5 & Diner has great!!! Food and great service. Note: Waitresses are up there with Firemen, Police Officers and Teachers. This is the second time I've come here, the first time was great and I loved our server. The second time was not good at all our server "Amanda" with the red hair was probably the worst service we have ever received. We had questions about the menu and could tell if we had substitutions it would get messed up so we just got a milkshake to share. It took around 15-20 minutes to get our Oreo milkshake which was warm and melted by the time we got it. The only thing we asked for was another straw but never came back, so we had to go up to the counter to ask for the check. I asked another server what her name was and she asked if everything was okay but the other waitress was right there so I didn't want to make a scene if she heard me. We wanted to try this place since it has such a cute diner feel and so we were sure it would be delicious. Unfortunately, it fell very short. What we ordered: Chicken fried steak with veggies, and fried pickles for an up charge. The chicken fried steak was decent, but eh fried pickles should have been fried for a few minutes longer, it was kind of soggy and not crunchy. Turkey club sandwich with fries: It was a big plate and had a lot of food, we were able to take more than half of it home for later. Fries were good as well. Hot dog with a side of fruit: my kid barely took a bite but you can't really mess up a hotdog. It looked good though. She really enjoyed the fruit. Vanilla milkshake with chocolate: good flavor, no complaints. The waitress was nice. The jukeboxes don't work and it's just for show apparently, but we weren't told this until after we put $2 in quarters in. Would have been nice to know before. Overall, it was mediocre. We recently ordered curbside takeout from this spot. It was a bit confusing at night and I think we parked in the wrong spot. But needless to say, once we phoned them and figured out what to do, they brought our food out to us and I gotta say...this was a nice change up to our usual to-go stops. The sandwiches were delicious-our family devoured them! So much so the only picture I took was my half eaten Reuben (which by the way was AWESOME). Could've done without the fries (and I love me some fries). They were greasy shoestrings and lacked flavor. Next time I will try a different side. The sandwiches were so good (did I mention that already?). We will come back and try breakfast because not much beats a greasy diner breakfast! It's a cute place too. My Grandpa used to go to the Arrowhead location every morning for breakfast until it closed. So my partner and I thought we would take him to the 16th street location. Breakfast all day + (I always like that) server was very nice and everything came relatively fast. My Grandpa is the bacon, eggs, toast and coffee kind of guy (no exceptions) I had the Cali Benedict, avocado, tomato and jack cheese. My eggs were poached perfectly, came out warm not hot (probably due to the avocado) and the English muffin was a tad soggy. It was still VERY tasty! My partner has some steak omelette with peppers I forget the name but it was stuffed full of steak, mushrooms and cheese. It was fantastic!
