Lovely little coffee shop in the heart of Kitsilano. Came here on a Sunday morning after a dip at Locarno Beach, and my girlfriend and I enjoyed a donut and a coffee each. She got the featured donut, which was a rainbow-colored cake donut, while I got a glazed old fashioned. We loved them both. I was also a fan of the Venezuelan latte, which is mildly spiced. My girlfriend tried to get a caramel cappuccino but they weren't quite sure how to make that work, but the regular cappuccino was good enough. We really loved the patio area, which is covered but also open enough for air circulation. All told, it's a great spot in a lovely area and we'd gladly return next time we visit the area! read more

I LOVE the decor/vibe of this place. It's essentially a coffee shop w/ donuts and mint green walls! There is also a sunroom area where you get a half outdoor seating feel. Nice place to chill! Also very busy at a random time in the afternoon, granted it was a Saturday. Donuts-wise. I am in love with Blue Star donuts in Portland and I am not aware of any good spots in Seattle (where I am from). I was expecting this place to be something of that sort, but it was just ok. Amazing doughnuts and superb coffee! I love stopping by as soon as they open at 7am. There's ample seating for both solo diners and groups. It could get loud closer to the 8am rush, but still a conducive space for working in your laptop, I think. There's free street parking before 9am! read more

If you didn't already know this, their coffee is usually two shots which makes sense why I hated their coffee in the beginning but now that I just get one shot for my 12 ounce with oat milk this is some of the best coffee in Vancouver! I also love their donuts, all of them are fantastic! read more

Good coffee! A friend took us here to try out their coffee. As tourists I was confused how to order. I suppose we order first then pick up coffee further down the line... but there were two pick up spots. One for the plain coffee and one at the end for the more specialized drinks? The place was packed on a Friday evening. I tried asking a lady behind the counter which one was my coffee but she was incredibly rude and condescending. Without making eye contact, she replied, "this one is a small coffee and this one is not"... or something along that lines. She got irritated when I tried to clarify so I just grabbed whichever I thought was mines and figured if I was wrong, let them deal with. I remembered her with color in her hair. Rude. Please check your attitude. My plain small coffee was good, killed it and regretted not getting a larger size. My friend enjoyed his latte. Parking can be a challenge since it's located in a busy area without much designed parking spaces. There was outdoor seating which was quite warm for a chilly day. read more

I don't know a version of myself that could survive without 49th Parallel Coffee...as much as it is a staple in Vancouver (with many other cafes selling and using their perfectly roasted beans), it has also become a staple in my life! The coffee is always done PERFECTLY and their almond milk lattes are the best in the city (I've scouted them all out). Certainly not a spot to miss for any visitors. Although it can be noisy at times, the bright and minimalistic aesthetic is still warm and comforting that you'll find yourself camped out for hours on end. Not to mention the Lucky donuts that they sell at this location (one is never enough). Lastly, when the summer days come along and the rain stops in our beautiful Vancouver, their patio is the perfect spot to re-caffeinate or soak in the morning rays! read more

To start, I got the French Cruller - most unique donut ever. It was crispy on the outside and so fluffy (yes FLUFFY) on the inside. Perfect sweetness and just the right amount. I also got the pistachio donut, which was good but nothing out of this world. The service was very friendly and I appreciated the simple ambiance. Here's where I deduct the 2 stars: The coffee was just not for me. I'm no coffee connoisseur, but it was just way too acidic and strong for me. It was a combination of extra strong coffee and sour coffee. Perhaps its their way of brewing or the beans...but just not for me. I got their latte as well, this was slightly better; but the milk was overly bubbly (not silky frothy) and the latte art was, well, bubbly. For the amount I paid for my coffees, I was disappointed. I didn't ask for a new one because these are things I didn't think that could change. I know some love their coffee...but just wasn't for me. read more

Love the service, love the vibes, and absolutely love the coffee here! The coffee of the day is very reasonably priced and gives me just the amount of kick I need. I also had a lavender earl gray donut, which is just as delicious as it sounds. It's a donut filled with an earl gray flavored filling and topped with a blueberry lavender glaze. I've come back here twice in just one week since discovering this place - it's a great place to grab a quick coffee or sit down and catch up with friends! Google maps requests reviews, which in turn can benefit one's business however not all local companies grasp the importance of knowing when something may have been off during a customer's visit. I left a review re 49th Parallel Coffee on 4th Avenue noting I personally didn't like the beans nor lack lustre service. They responded with the following, which in turn means I will never go into another location to give them any of my hard earned cash, since they obviously have a surplus of it apparently by the rude response from owner... As this response on Google Maps points out; Response from the owner an hour ago.... Well not everybody can have great taste. Fortunately your friends do. Personally, as a owner or manager of ANY business, I'd be more keen to address the poor unfriendly service. Plus my 'review' was not all negative however, the owner missed that part. Considering this company sells more than just coffee, why would the owner choose to respond to pass back a snide comment knowing that even though I don't like coffee, there were multiple other edibles or drinks I did like. Thoroughly enjoyed their Venezuelan coffee with a pbj donut and croissant. If you're from out of town and have no idea what to order. Order this. The pbj donut has a nice fruity and sweet jelly inside that doesn't ooze out. They figured out the right jelly amount, so need to worry about sticky jelly fingers....just peanut butter fingers. If you're not a fan of donuts then the croissant is a nice handsome slice of bread. Sweet and fluffy. As aside, I'm gonna recognize that the male staff are a very good looking bunch. This is a great neighbourhood spot ( that isn't part of a huge chain) to visit with friends . They have an adequate variety of hot and cold beverages. The fresh donuts are fantastic! They now offer gluten free choices if you get there before they are gone. It can get a bit hectic at times but the staff is pretty good at moving crowds through in a reasonable time. barista told me its flatwhite.... and they say it suppose to have espresso with foam..... but flat white is less foam with expresso... the barista need to be educated what coffee is and need to be trained to make proper coffee... cashier was nice and good. But the barista is not as good as a coffee shop supposed to be, When I complained my coffee was too bitter and taste weird, the barista looks very unhappy and said their coffee is like that. Great coffee. I like the latte with hazelnut milk. Lots of cup sizes which is great. Donuts are Lucky's. Their variety and selection isn't the greatest, especially if you're going later in the afternoon or early evening. The ones left over are also kinda dry or stale. This location is always filled with students, especially on the weekends. They look like they've been camping there for a while. Recently they changed the wifi so that it's only open and free on the weekdays haha. They have a covered seating area outside which is nice, but no pets allowed. So if you have a dog, you'll have to sit on the outside section of the patio, by the bike racks. *EDITED AFTER COMMENT FROM BUSINESS OWNER* Fair point that the wifi thing isn't "recently" per se. I stand corrected on this. However, I stand by my comment that most of the people in the covered outdoors seating area are students with study material and/or laptops (whether or not connected to wifi). My no pets comment isn't intended to be a ding against the business. I think it's relevant and intended to be informative for readers as there are many dog owners around Kits. I understand that a business can't keep pumping out new donuts closer to the end of the day, from a food waste or economic standpoint. Again, just providing information for anyone who may visit after 4-5pm, like I did. I've had amazing donuts on previous visits, but anytime I go later in the day, it's lacking. Might just be me, but I feel like my customer experience shouldn't vastly vary depending on what time of day I'm visiting. I love the Main Street location, but this location is also fabulous, located at the heart of West 4th. I came later in the day and you know when that happens you're limited for donut options. But coffee is alway on point never disappoints. I love outdoor seating and because its Raincouver its covered. This visit I tried the earl grey lavender donut and a latte. A donut and a coffee for $5, its a dream come true! I believe they had 4 different vegan donuts to choose from. I got the raspberry chocolate donut which was good but the dried raspberries did taste a little weird, maybe its just me? Overall, the donut itself was good though. My friend got the vegan vanilla which was very soft and tasteful. Loved the atmosphere inside. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is more like indoor as its covered and has heaters! The place smells heavenly as they bake the donuts fresh there! Over all, very dreamy cafe. First time I've been to this 49th Parallel location. It's pretty different from the one on Main street, this one being slightly smaller and different style of interior design. I'm glad they have Lucky's Donuts here as well! Didn't have any regular coffee or donuts this time though, just a quick stop by for a cold drink. Had their Venezuelan Coffee (carmelized milk reduction, espresso, textured milk) in iced form. If you like super sweet iced coffee, you'll love this one! read more

Some will say that the previous business here made it a great hangout first, but as someone that lived a block away for 3 years,.. I never found myself drawn in. Building on the success of the Main St. location, this one has become a major hub (and just recently they expanded into the parking lot with a covered/heated patio - full and in use early Feb). For that, I give it high marks,.. anything in this city where people DO something,.. I consider an asset. Also in the plus column is the fact they serve Lucky's donuts,.. my main reason for coming in the door. For Vancouver, Lucky's is close to #1 in the donut arena IMO. In the not so good column is the pretentious attitude of some of the staff,.. perhaps I'm not enough of a hipster and need to work on my beard. I also feel the pain of other reviewers,.. too many Mac users parking themselves for hours on end (reminding me of Calhoun's on Broadway),.. there to be seen, and simultaneously make me leave. read more

49th Parallel Coffee is probably one of my favourite cafes to visit. The inside decor is beautiful and elegant, especially their patio, which has great lighting for some beautiful photos. The patio has heating if you decide to come visit on a cold rainy day. The atmosphere is definitely laid-back and very hipster, which is expected in an area like Kitsilano. They also sell Luckys donuts here, and for $5 you can have both a donut of your choice and a medium coffee. Staff here have great customer service; they are always polite, cheerful and always smiling. Their lattes have beautiful latte arts, some of the best I've seen in all cafes of Vancouver. Definitely come here for a coffee break if you're in the area, because then you will understand why this place is so popular! Plus, their cups are elegant and just the cutest! read more

Most aesthetically pleasing coffee shop in Vancouver! I haven't been to many coffee shops in Vancouver, but this would definitely have to be my favourite. The simple decor inside is beautiful and they also have outdoor covered seating. Such beautiful natural lighting throughout the coffee shop. My boyfriend and I both got the mocha lattes. I wasn't expecting them to be as bitter as they were. However, the latte art made up for it. The lady who made ours was a pro! It gets quite busy but the service is very fast. There is nice comfortable seating and the marble-top tables make for great instagram-worthy photographs for sure (I know some of us care more about what our pictures look like than the actual taste of the food). 49th has become one of my favourite cafes in the city (that and jj bean). I love the consistently smooth and silky Americano soy mistos, friendly service and gorgeous space. I've even found 49th parallel coffee served at good cafes in LA! Nice to have the comforts of home there:) Update, had to take a star away as they no longer serve my favourite soy misto... they took all soy milk away to make room for hemp milk. Oh well, I will have to go to other coffee shops now for my fix:( read more

Adorable mint green coffee mugs, donuts, and a comfortable sun room- what could be better? I recently visited 49th Parallel Coffee on my weekend visit to Vancouver. I had a delicious vanilla latte that came with gorgeous latte art. I also ordered their popular sourdoughnut which was really good! The line was out the door when I arrived so I knew this was going to be a good coffee shop. I visited on a Sunday morning and I noticed that they didn't offer WIFI until the afternoon. This might just be a weekend thing but I liked that the morning atmosphere was more focused on hanging out instead of working. The baristas were very friendly and the line moved quickly. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a table, but I had no problem finding one in the sun room. This was a great place to sit since it was a nice sunny day in Vancouver. Be wary if you come on a weekend, it was so busy! The line was out the door but man, for those doughnuts it's definitely worth it. I got the lemon meringue and my bf got the strawberry cheesecake. While both were delicious, they were a tad too sweet for us and I normally have a huge sweet tooth! Their drip coffee is amazing but I wasn't blown away by the cold brew. Tasted almost like nothing to be honest. Overall the vibe in here is very cute and "instagrammable" with their outdoor patio and marble table tops. Got the Matcha bismarck and the Stout piggy pudding(?). the last one was on feature so isn't normally there...but it basically has irish baileys cream on top and uses guinea dough. I must have misheard because I can't google anything on Guinea dough, but I assume that this is why the donut name is related to pigs??
