Delicious coffee! I tried the maple sea salt latte with oat milk and it was so cozy and flavorful but didn't override the espresso. I also bought a bag of the old school espresso (nuttier, chocolate note) and my friend got the epic espresso, which is what they used for the maple sea salt latte, and the notes are sweet and floral. Street parking only, but there is a lot behind the store with several parking spaces. Definitely returning to try the pastries! read more

I really like this place! I love the tables and seats. They are comfortable and conducive for work or relaxation. The sliding doors on the side is open this gorgeous day that goes out to a nice patio. I tried their apple fritter with bacon. I like the caramel outside and the soft texture inside. Came in lunch time there were numerous pastries to choose from. They look fresh. Came back in the afternoon and there was a new batch/kinds to choose from. Place is always clean. The crowd is mixed, combination of students, professionals, young and old. I don't mind driving here from where I live in Richmond because there is free parking on the side streets. You just need to look for a spot as there are lots of cars along the residential area. Along Main St. there are lots of restaurants that may be appealing depending on what you're in the mood for. I always love the doughnuts here. Both the "regular" and vegan/gf versions of the cake batter are rich with a texture that almost melts in your mouth. The old fashioneds are messy but worth it. I want to try some bismarcks but they never seem to have them when I'm there in the morning. But they still always have a pretty good assortment when I'm there, with fun seasonal flavours. The coffee and tea are really good too. The ginger chai is one of my favourite chai lattes around with a great spicy depth. The baristas are nice. This area of Main Street has strong coffee competition with JJ Bean and Forecast (taking over the old Starbucks) all within a block, but what the others do not have is the Lucky's donuts. Stopped by mid week mid morning and great that there was plenty of seating available. Went for the $6 combination...medium coffee or tea with your choice of Lucky's donut and opted for the Pistachio Ring. The donuts on display all looked great and it was challenging to chose. It has been a while since I have had a donut and while it tasted great, I did find it overly sweet. The coffee was nice and balanced the sugar in the donut. This coffee shop should be called 49th parallel donuts because coffee and donuts are served in equal measure. You will be hard pressed to find non donut savory or sweet options to snack on, but the location and spacious interiors make this shop worth a visit. I will say the donuts do look very tempting, but even Tim Hortons have a good selection of 'other' options. Service was prompt and friendly, Americanos came up quickly, tables were clean and generally tidy. Metal chairs are not very comfy, the country decor is a little log cabinesque, roughing it! We ordered banana bread and savory scone. Scone was large and a little dry, with a spicy kick. The Americano were to my taste quite acidic, not smooth and definitely needing cream and sweetener. This was part of our donut trail and to be honest I was pretty disappointed. I had really high expectations but it was kinda let down. We got one of each kind of donut, a old fashioned, a Bismarck, and a vegan donut. The old fashioned was probably my favorite - the flavor was pretty good and it was a standard old fashioned. The rhubarb bismarck donuts was good, light and fluffy, the rhubarb filling was more of a jam, so a little thicker than a custard filling im use to but still good. The vegan mango/coconut donut --this was probably the least favorite. It was soooooo mushy and slimy that it tasted more like a banana bread (a very moist one) than a donut. The donuts and other pastries here are so good' I got the cinnamon bun which was so good! It wasn't overly sweet which happens with a few cinnamon buns/rolls that I have had and had the right amount of cinnamon/cream cheese frosting to give it a nice balance and the pastry was super light and fluffy and the outside edges on the outside had a nice crust that was a nice added texture. Every trip to Vancouver (at least once a year, since this is my partner's hometown) we find an excuse to come to 49th Parallel! On a Thursday afternoon around 3pm, they only had a few donuts on display. I chose the Mulberry old fashioned and give it 4 stars - the mulberry topping had a lovely tartness. But personally, old fashioned's aren't my favorite donuts as they are inherently more dry than the yeast ones. I also got the iced chai latte, which was refreshing, but the flavor was quite subtle. Pro-tip - if they don't have too many donuts on display, there might be more batches on the way! Just 5-10 minutes after I ordered, there were several more flavors at the counter and I had major regrets seeing tons of customers with a Pistachio yeast donut. read more

I can't believe I haven't written anything about this place. 49th Parallel Coffee actually provided the most memorable moment of my visit to Vancouver (aside from hiking in Whistler, you know...) My parents and I visited this place twice while we were there because the doughnuts were so good. We tried different flavors for both days and all of them were a hit. Each doughnut flavor has a special twist to it, and coffee is good too. The cafe is quite spacious and we were able to find a seating quickly for both days. I frequent Dough and the Doughnut Plant in NYC, but I still dream of this place occasionally. I think 49th Parallel Coffee beats all doughnut stores in NYC, honestly. It would be a dream come true if they could open a store in NYC - I'm sure people will go nuts like I did. read more

Absolutely love this coffee shop! During a stay in Vancouver, my friends and I made it a daily ritual to drop by here each morning for our daily coffee. The staff here is all so friendly (but that seems to be the norm in Canada haha). Their baristas pull a great espresso, and their cortado was amazing. Lots of space and tables and couches. Very cozy with lots of wood and exposed brick. But those Lucky's Doughnuts...so freaking delicious. I probably ate 5000 calories each morning because I couldn't resist sampling as many as I could. Of course, this is not the first time I have been to 49th Parallel, the first being the time I went to their Kitslano location. This location boasts a more rustic and cozy atmosphere. I arrived around 10am on a Saturday and though it was packed, we managed to sit right away as there seemed to be a steady stream of customers coming in and out. I ordered their cinnamon bun and ruby rose Valentine's Day drink. The cinnamon bun was almost the texture of a croissant and wasn't the overly oozy and sweet flavour, which can sometimes get a little much. The bun had a nice balance between savoury and sweet. The Valentine's Day special drink was a little small and room temperature, but boasted the same mid-tier balance between milky and sweet. Lucky's doughnuts are always good - you have to eat it semi-quickly or it will start to dry out. I think it's a really nice cafe for coffee and doughnuts, maybe a quick chat with a friend. It is not a good place for studying. Most of the two seater tables are fairly small so you have to resort to the benches if you're going to need space. The seats on the benches aren't very comfortable either. Lighting was good in some parts of the cafe. I didn't see any available outlets for use either. It also gets fairly loud at certain times - I went at 9am and at around 10:30am - 11:30am it got really busy and loud. read more

Two things are going for this place coffee & doughnuts. Is that enough? Pretty much. There's plenty of space inside and out so at some point say when its cold you may have to squish together more so than usual. What's cool is you can watch those two things being made. Lucky's doughnuts made fresh in the back. Beware that what they offer isn't the same every day so if you find something you like it - buy or just eat it. I like doughnuts but I have never had anything like these before. It's fluffy not dense but not so airy you wouldn't recognize that it was doughnut. They didn't turn it into bread. Texture is addictive. I can see why people covet these. You can watch them make some damn fine coffee. 49th parallel coffee. Best coffee and donuts in Vancouver. I ordered a cappuccino, lavender blueberry glazed donut with Earl Gray filling, and a salted caramel donut. Although there was ample seating inside I opted to get some fresh air in their open patio. The cappuccino here was full bodied with a deep roasted flavor and slight acidity. It's my kind of espresso. Surprisingly I tried my sister's Housemade almond milk version and did not care for it (less creamy and possibly over brewed). Drinks come in adorable teal cups. The donuts (from Lucky Donuts) were scrumptious. It looks like they put out more donuts throughout the day so don't be discouraged if you come in the morning and find flavors running out. The blueberry one was my absolute favorite. I was full from breakfast earlier and finished this donut in less than a minute. It's a soft, fluffy raised donut with a light pastry cream filling. The lavender blueberry glaze added the right level of complexity. The salted caramel donut was unique and paired well with coffee. Stopped by for their Hot chocolate festival options. We ordered both the hot chocolate specials, The Bee's Knees and the Malted Milk Chocolate (regular milk subbed instead of hazelnut milk). Both drinks were very good, with my favourite being the Bees Knees solely because I'm a sucker for both lavender and honeycomb, and neither were too overwhelming in the drink. The cookie for this one was SO good, with the same honeycomb and lavender flavours standing out. Didn't know I needed the Pumpkin Cheesecake Bismarck until I saw it shining through the display case. I love Pumpkin Cheesecake and was so excited to see that it was a flavor they were offering that day! It didn't disappoint!
