This was the only place I got to try for the Hot Chocolate festival and if it was any indication on how the other places were then I didn't miss much. The shop itself is really nice and almost rustic feeling with lots of seating spaces but the product I received missed the mark. The donuts that this place serve seem to be the biggest draw with a few different kinds everyday that range from around $3 - $4 which is pretty standard for specialty donut shops around town which I feel is a bit overpriced for 90% of the donuts that 49th has. In the past, I've tried only the donuts and none of them stood out at all but during my visit for the Hot Chocolate festival that changed. I ordered the regular hot chocolate + donut for $6 deal and chose the Tiramisu. The hot chocolate itself was tiny and wasn't great..pretty bland and boring but the donut was amazing, one of the best I've ever had in this city TBH which is the only reason I'd give the experience more than a 1- 2 star review. My gf got the Nanaimo bar hot chocolate with a donut shaped financier for $6.50. The financier was "meh" but the hot chocolate was pretty good and not too sweet. In conclusion, I don't find this place all that appealing but I do understand why others might. I'd only ever return for that Tiramisu donut lol. read more

I was here to kill some time waiting for my doctor's appointment. As I had a sore throat due from a food allergy 24 hrs in Vegas prior to my visit to 49th Parallel - I chose the Organic Ginger Herbal Tea (recommended by the cashier) and a Tiramisu doughnut. OMG. My throat healed after 3 sips of this tea! I have tried hot water/lemon/honey and didn't work. I was able to swallow without tearing up due to pain of swallowing. The tiramisu doughnut was fluffy and flavourful with the coffee filling and mascarpone cream on top was so delicious! I will definitely be back to try more donuts and tea/coffee. This place is always packed, and for a good reason too! I stopped by for a coffee, and I was immediately attracted to the wide variety of donut selections. Surprisingly, the donut and coffee combo was only $5. What a fantastic deal! I ordered the smores donut, and the house coffee. Finding a seat was a little bit difficult, but luckily, we found two cozy seats right by the fireplace. The donut was amazing! Never had a donut like that before. The chocolate oozed out after the first bite, and it mixed really well with the marshmallow. The donut dough itself was the most magical part - it tasted like fresh bread and was really soft and not overly sweet. The coffee was also amazing as well! Will come back for more! read more

I don't live in the area but every time I'm out west I have to stop in and get a coffee! It is a bit pricey for me but I think their coffee is delicious and well worth the price compared to Starbucks. The staff are so friendly and I always find myself looking into the display case to get a treat to eat because they all look so good! I'm a bit of a health nut so I always stop myself but I know one of these days I'm going to have to try one of their donuts! They need to open more cafes in Burnaby! read more

This is one of my favourite coffee and donut shops! The mere fact that it is a coffee and donut shop, together, is a miracle in and of itself. And they do each so well! The very first time that I had a coffee here was a few years ago but it was life changing. I tried their drip coffee which was a coffee brew with a hint of cherry. It was slightly acidic but to my surprise, incredibly delicious. Ever since, I have been coming back. I am definitely no coffee connoisseur but I think that I prefer their drip coffee over their espresso. Is that what they are known for? I don't know, sorry! The last time that I was there, I spied a bottle with the words "cold brew coffee", "sparkling", "cherry", and "tea" on it. Not sure what kind of combination that is but I know I will be coming back to try it. And their donuts (or more so, Lucky's Donuts) are always a real treat! I've had a few of their experimental donuts, like their PB & J and their cold brew crueller and have nothing bad to say. It's some stiff competition for Cartem's a few blocks down, that's for sure. All in all, I love the vibe of this place. It's super modern and slightly eccentric with a large patio for sunny mornings. It's a great place to chat with friends or get some work done. This place definitely meets expectations after hearing about its awesomeness from multiple random people since I moved to Vancouver. I don't know if this place has ever known a quiet day, so best to expect it to be busy. Every time I've come by however they've had a good selection of Lucky's donuts available and fresh for the taking. The ambience is hip and dim, decor is industrial/wood. It's cozy and cool, style-wise. If you get cool though there is a gas fireplace at the back where you can warm up by. Nice touch. The coffee is good. Real good. Thick with volumes of flavour. The tea is loose leaf and fresh. And I gotta say I love the colour of the dishes here. They give a perfect spark of hue to the place. The donuts are very good. My favourite is the sourdough glazed. Simple and very satisfying. They offer a donut and coffee/tea for $5 which is a fun little deal to snag. The one and only desire I am left with when I'm here is better WiFi. When it's busier I find it hard to latch onto at the further end of the shop. There is the vanlife network in some areas of the place but it's not so reliable. Overall great spot. read more

I am not a coffee drinker but this place is still awesome (and I guess has good coffee if your into that kind of thing). We went on a late Saturday morning and the place was absolutely packed with hipsters and people out to enjoy the nice weather/walk their dogs. We were able to find a place outside in their patio area which was perfect to people watch and attempt to do the crossword. Definitely try their donuts! So good even though they are a bit steep on the price - $3 to $3.50 per donut - but it's worth it. I was able to sample a few that my friends had: - Coconut bismarck donut - Peach donut - I ordered the orange pistachio honey (had two different types of filling in it which was a pleasant surprise) Coffee was pretty good according to my friends as well. I love coffee and was really excited to enjoy some 49th Parallel Coffee on my recent visit to Vancouver after reading lots of reviews and receiving tons of recommendations. The first thing that I noticed when I walked in were the Lucky donuts. OMG! I don't know how anyone can resist ordering one. I had the Orange Honey Pistachio Lucky donut and a small latte. Given the warm, sunny weather I was lucky to score a table outside on the patio. I loved the presentation of the latte on a small wooden board with a spoon and glass of water, and the donut came on a plate with a small napkin folded into a triangle. So, how did everything taste? The donut was the ultimate sugar bomb and incredibly decadent and delicious, and the latte was absolutely perfect! Hands down 49th Parallel coffee is my #1 favorite coffee spot in Vancouver. It was so good that I might order some coffee beans online, although I know my latte will pale in comparison, especially since I don't know how to make the pretty latte art. Quality coffee, Mouthwatering donuts I was introduced to 49th parallel coffee years ago by a coffee snob I used to work with. The freshly roasted (2 weeks or so) beans are what makes their caffeinated beverage taste (imo) better than their big-chain competitors. Drinks: You can't really go wrong with any of the espresso drink but my personal fav is the Venezuelan coffee. They're all finished off with some artistic design on top and taste amazing. Ambiance: The cafe is rather large for a coffee shop and has long benches which is great for hanging out or studying. Its decorated like a rustic train station or warehouse which seems to be the trend in many buildings these days. Lucky Donuts is a welcome addition and there's no shortage of people staring, drooling, gaping the big glass case of glazed goodness. I've tried them twice but I don't find them quite as exceptional as the coffee but i'm not really here for donuts. Do yourself a favor and try a Venezuelan coffee and buy a bag of beans. read more

Came in at 6:50am because I was working in the same building for the day. They wouldn't serve me which is understandable because they were not quite open, went across the road to blenz to get a coffee. Came back to sit with the other people I was working with for the day, who were waiting to order coffee. The manager came into the seating area and kicked us all out because my coffee was from blenz. The entire area was empty at the time. He was very rude in his tone and stood and waited till we left. My crew will be working in the building for years to come and will not be returning...... Quite trying to cover your tracks. That was a true encounter and the fact that you searched the reviews to find me just shows you knew I was going to review you, based on your actions. For $5 you get a nice cup of Ethiopian coffee with a donut. I got the Coconut creme with bavarian cream center. It was made here on the premises. Atmosphere is very cool with a nice outdoor seating area with chairs on the side. Service was very good. They are helpful and offered a lot of suggestions with the coffee choices. I think it is because everyone is trying to figure out the donuts that they want. I'm a fan of Chinese donuts, but not other varietals - skipped on the Lucky's. After we order the cappuccino is ready within 5 mins. While The Hubs is ordering, I'm scouting for seats. There are people who hog quarter or sides of a table, etc. - there are too many selfish coffee table hoggers here which depreciates the experience. The cappuccino is pretty good, but it is for $4. Compare to other caffes and roasters $4 is about 5-10% higher in price. Taste-wise, it is very creamy and the espresso was nice and flavourful. Overall, given the challenge of parking and seats availability, I will come back given a good reason or happens to be here for other things. read more

Then I bought a tumbler while I was there, but noticed a chip on it and asked for another one and the girl rolled her eyes as if I was bothering her ??? God, I wanted to return the damn thing right there. Coffee was not great, espresso shot was definitely sour. The only reason there are 3 stars instead of 2 is because of the luckys donut. This is one of my favourite non-corporate Coffee shops in Main in the south shore area. Their pastry chef is fantastic and the coffee is fair trade, fresh and served quickly with a smile. Their selection of donuts (sometimes with bacon!) scones (often savoury instead of sweet), muffins or croissants goes wonderfully with their big hardwood patio. If you can't find a seat inside those who can brave Vancouver's shifting weather will find one out there. read more

Space has too much going on from a sensory standpoint. Excellent coffee and pastries. Very LA vibe scene-y sort of place to see and be seen. Single origin coffees are well roasted and well brewed and baristas are decently knowledgable. Reminds me of Handsome Coffee (now Blue Bottle) in Downtown LA. Only minor complaints are that the only type of soda water they offer with espresso drinks is pellegrino - which you have to buy separately (most places in my experience that take their espresso seriously provide a small glass on the side for cheap or even included in the price). Also the wifi is horrible. Maybe they do this on purpose? It would also be nice if they offered maybe more than 1 drip or pourover coffee and 1-2 more cold brewed tea options. read more
