Unfortunately, Lucky's failed me not once, not twice, but thrice. I thought they were amazing when they first opened (about 10 years ago). Their donuts were always fresh and they even had beignets! But I came here three times in the last two years and all three times were underwhelming. I came in yesterday and picked up a few donuts. They're not fresh as before and so were the last two times. Their donuts are not cheap so when you pay $5 for one donut, it should taste good or at least fresh. Also, their coffee is not the best either. It is hard to find good donuts in Vancouver. With similar pricing, I will stick to Mello for now, at least they're consistent.
I finally get to try the donuts from Lucky. I have heard lots about it but somehow our paths never crossed till recently. I bought the apple bacon fritter because bacon. Who can resist bacon? I also got the peanut butter jelly donut to go. The apple bacon fritter was more like a bread texture. I liked the chewy texture and the bacon was delicious. I barely tasted any apple in my fritter though. But the bacon and maple glaze more than made up for the tiny amount of apple bits in my fritter. The glaze did make it a sticky mess to eat. I had the peanut butter jelly the next day. It was definitely a bit harder than if you had it on the same day. I took a bite before storing in a Tupperware, so that I could tell the difference. The donut was square shaped and it was chockfull of berry jelly inside. Some sections were oozing jelly when you bit into it. Be careful not to smear your face. At $4.50 each, I think the price is fair during this time when everything is expensive. But it is not that cheap you can have it everyday. Location is shared with 49th Parallel Coffee. It is a spacious coffee shop with patio seating. Parking is available on the streets around it.
The donuts at Lucky's are decent overall, but not exceptional. I remember them being a bit better, but there's so many better options these days for the $4-5/donut price range in Vancouver. The only reason this gets as high a rating is that the location is a great one for studying/working, the coffee from 49th Parallel is always a good pairing, and the French Cruller is potentially the best cruller I've ever had anywhere. Must try if you haven't -- it's wonderfully moist.

Some donuts we ordered were Cinnamon Sugar Old Fashioned, Glazed Ring, Berry Berliner, Long John, Pistachio Ring, and Chocolate Old Fashioned. My top two favorite were Long John and Chocolate Old Fashioned - especially when it's warm (microwaved prior eating). Overall the donuts were moist and flavorful, and still good the eat the next morning - highly recommend!!

We tried the following donuts: 1) Vanilla - flavour was as expected but the donut itself was quite hard or dry. 2) Peanut butter and jelly - this was my favourite and probably the biggest donut on the menu. This classic combination worked well together, and the centre was bursting with jelly. 3) Tiramisu - the top of the donut was tasty -strong espresso flavour- but I wish the centre was more Tiramisu flavour and not just white cream. 4) Maple donut? - this is likely my fault for not reading the name correctly. I was unpleasantly surprised to find bacon bits inside the donut dough. Really just wanted a fluffy maple donut, but this one was also dry/hard. Maybe I'm just bitter because I couldn't get my London Fog donut from Cartem's..
For sure a step up from Timmy's If you like chewy donuts then this is for you. I won't mention my preferred donut as they ain't paying my tush donut!
The gluten friendly chocolate sprinkle donuts-yum! These are one of my favourite gluten friendly donuts in Vancouver. They're a bit on the heavier side since gluten free items are usually a bit denser, but they are so good! They're on the pricier side but almost equivalent cost to their non gluten friendly donuts. I'm glad that they started to offer a gluten friendly vanilla based cake donut, but I hope to see them offer a wider selection of gluten friendly donuts once they fully reopen from covid!
I actually haven't had Lucky's donuts in so long and I forgot how good they were. The donuts were SO FLUFFY and bouncy. The donuts are reasonably priced and are quite big as well. They have a wide variety of different flavours to choose from. Also since it's covid, they do have outdoor seating available. Pistachio Donut ($3.25): My personal favourite. If you love pistachio this is the donut for you! The donut is so fluffy and bouncy, but also not too sweet. The pistachio flavour really shines in the glaze and also there's some pistachio pieces on top that give it a nice crunch Glazed Ring ($3.25): This one was so delicious too. Again, very fluffy and bouncy. Not too sweet as well. My second favourite here. Sprinkled Ring ($3.25): My dad ate this one so I can't really give it a review but he did say it was tasty. Chocolate Old Fashioned ($3.25): My dad also ate this one He said it was really yummy too! So if you're a chocolate lover like my dad, you'll probably like this
An updated review: Two weeks ago, I ordered get the Baker's Dozen from Lucky's Doughnuts for a social distancing meetup with friends. Included in this box was Glazed Ring, Pistachio Ring, Vanilla Old Fashioned, Salted Caramel Old Fashioned, Chocolate Old Fashioned, French Crueller, and Lemon Meringue Bismarck. The clear favourites with the groupwere the Lemon Meringue Bismarck and Salted Caramel Old Fashioned doughnuts, but my favourites in this box was the Glazed Ring and Pistachio Ring. A huge bummer though was that one of the Lemon Meringue Bismarck doughnuts didn't have the Lemon Curd filling inside (see picture)! But other than that, all the doughnuts were delicious. Still one of my favourite doughnut spots in Vancouver.
The doughnuts here are good and they have a variety of flavours. They also have seasonal flavours too. I like the pistachio, earl grey and PBJ donut. They have a special of $5 for a donut and regular coffee which I like as I like their coffee. One thing that has changed here is that they turn off the wifi during the day in order for people not to sit there for hours on end. I can understand as it is to allow customers to actually come with some friends, have some coffee/tea & donut and chat for a bit. You have to remember it is a doughnut and coffee shop, not a library or study room and they don't have other food items so how many doughnuts could you possibly eat. The prices are higher but is comparable to other doughnut places like Cartems, Harmony and Honey's, etc. If you want regular doughnuts, then go to Tim Hortons, Duffins, etc.
Simply amazing! Moist and decadent. I love that it's not too sweet and so worth the price. It may be pricier than other doughnuts but is totally worth it.
My bf and I got the Pb & J donut and pistachio ring donut. We were one person away from getting the earl grey lavender donut! We'll get it for sure the next time! Funny story but I was doing my foodie thing and taking a photo of the PB&J donut when suddenly a seagull swept down and stole half of my donut! Then a flock of seagulls charged at me to fight over the donut. Tip: don't ever take foodie pics at Granville market (at least not outside by the pier)!!! The Pb & J donut was very heavy; filled to the rim! The donut itself was very soft and delicious. The peanut butter frosting was pretty sweet but the actually peanut pieces helped lessen the sweetness. The jelly was very sour and had bits of crunchy pieces of seeds from the jam. I liked it but it was heavy so share it with someone if you don't want a food coma!! The pistachio ring was way too sweet for me. It tasted like vanilla frosting with pieces of pistachio. It was a disappointment but the dough was soft and moist. I ended up eating only the parts without frosting lol Overall I prob would come back again just to try the earl grey lavender donut as I know the rest of the donuts are very sweet! The prices are affordable!

We hit up this place whenever we are in Vancouver just for the scones. A couple of our items were missed when ordering on current trip, probably because of our large order, but they were quick to remedy when it was brought to their attention. Atmosphere is chill but can be noisy with with conversations. read more

I love this donut place because it's super cute and delicious! We got their ornament donut along with their cheese croissant. * The ornament donut was super pretty, and colourful, the flavours were fresh and delicious! It was raspberry flavoured which tasted fresh with no artificial flavours. And their were a small slice of ginger on there as well to help enhance the raspberry flavours of the donut. I was surprised by the flavours at first but after a couple more bits it got me drooling for more. * The cheese croissant was very flaky, delicious and rich in cheese flavour. I was super happy and satisfied with the taste and texture of the croissant! I'd definitely get this again! * This place was super cute and the size of the foods are huge. Arguably, the best doughnuts in Vancouver. If it weren't for the fact the doughnuts here cost $3 and up, I'd be coming here more often. Alas, their outrageous price relegates these treats to "special occasion" status. There are a several things that make Lucky's doughnuts special: 1. The batter they use results in the lightest doughnuts I've had in recent memory. They're so light and delicate, you inhale these doughnuts. I close my eyes and imagine I'm eating a cloud. 2. They look beautiful. It looks like an artisan handcrafted each one. That said, though, I've never met a doughnut I thought was ugly. 3. They serve Beignets, a traditional New Orleans-style fritter. They come with several types of dipping sauces which adds variety to this otherwise bland pastry. Great doughnuts; be prepared to pay. read more
I love the chewiness and textured of the donut. we tried different cakey donuts and usually I don't like it but over there it was cakey and crispy so it was different and I like that. also the quality of the donut this pretty good and I love the chewiness of each part and the fact that they were not too sweet. The coffee have a very strange of the taser and we don't really like it. Be prepared to stand on line but they move pretty fast. read more
I tried their maple bacon donut and other donuts. Love it. I mean its not Tim Horton quality. These are out of the ordinary flavors. Well they are not overly sweet. They are a bit expensive with cheapest one $2.50 to $3.75. But people usually buy a coffee and a donut and not like lots in one sitting. Today, came for the hot chocolate festival and got to try the apple cinnamon donut. It was pretty good. Their donuts don't disappoint! read more

Doughnut . Coffee All I heard was the doughnuts at Lucky's are better than Honey's. Exsqueez me?!?! No, no, no. Let's start with the obvious the coffee and iced latte were fantastic, no doubt. My cousin and I got 4 doughnuts to get a good flavor profile. Some thing with vanilla with a strange name (cruelly or something) - very good. It was a fluffy doughnut but with a little crispy outer goodness. Mmmmmmm, Honey's don't serve that, advantage Luckys. Maple Old Fashion - very good, but don't compare to Honey's please, not in the same league. No contest Honeys. Creme Brule - Amazing!?! But the crusted sugar almost made it too crunchy, almost. Advantage Luckys. So how is it no contest? The Apple bacon Piece of Sh$t. I took one bite spit it out and it nearly ruined my entire experience, nearly. It is always the last visit that you are going to remember, and it just didn't meet to the standards I have had with Lucky's that I have had before. I'll admit that this was the first meal of the day while I was nearby and I have always wondered how the PB&J was. Well I had it, and well, it dealt with my hunger and lack of energy, but wasn't the wavering 'wow' that everyone has been talking about, too bad, cause I was hoping it would live up to those expectation. I think I may have caught the end of the Valentine's Day batch, cause I remember this thing, seeing it on multiple occasions being square, and not heart shaped. My stomach was too hungry to even really think of this at the time I was there, just gimme the damn donut so I can shut the stomach up was at the forefront of my mind. I lined up to get my food, only a donut, no coffee this time as this place is located within 49th Parallel, and in no time my order was in a bag ready for me to jettison off! About the donut itself, covered in a good thin layer of peanut butter, a nice light brown 'Skippy' kind of color, this is already beginning to be appealing to me! Wondering about the anticipation of what was the filling, as it has to be the jelly/jam portion, I have to say I was not a fan of this combo. The filling felt dry for any filling, let alone jam, for a donut and was a little too tart and didn't jive well with the peanut butter. It became an imbalance of too much jam, and the flavours felt just off. A little too doughy in between the break of peanut butter to jam didn't help combine the flavours of my childhood. I think I will stick with the other ones I tried, like their apple and bacon. I guess I'm just going to have to wait for my follow up visit! read more

This is my favourite donut shop in Vancouver for artisan donuts. Great regular and seasonal flavours. I've probably sampled almost all of their donuts over the years. I come as often as I can, or as much as my waistline can take. I really wanted to taste their Christmas offerings and was excited to finally try some. I ordered the eggnog bismarck and an American misto. I introduced my friend for the first time to these donuts and she must have enjoyed her creme brûlée donut because it disappeared before I even took a bite of mine. To be fair, I was trying to google something for her. The eggnog filling was absolutely delightful and the homemade marshmallow on top was light and airy. Definitely put me in the Christmas mood. It was very busy as usual and we lucked out with a table just as we picked up our order. read more
Out once again on a Doughnut hunt and found this gem! I gotta say, these Doughnuts are bomb!!! Ordered the Creme Brulee, Cinnamon & Sugar and Peanutbhtter & Jelly. The caramel on the outside confused me at first...I've grown accustomed to "salted caramel" anything being a glaze or a syrup. This is caramel like one finds on an apple - chewy, sticky (but not overly so), with real caramel flavor which is set off nicely by the salt, you can see the crystals in the photo. I was so delighted with this that I had a fried dough zen moment: my mind emptied as I concentrated on the best way to eat this donut with my coffee. If I had a bite in my mouth, would the caramel melt when I drank the coffee? Did it unstick the caramel from my teeth? Should I dunk it? Getting so immersed in the moment and enjoying my coffee and donut = baked good nirvana. This, of course, requires me to return when I'm north again and see if the same thing happens with a raised... Ok, another shop that's not exactly on its own, so when someone asks where it is, the easiest thing to say is, "inside 49th Parallel Coffee." Cute little shop with long lines that take no time at all. I felt so excited about this place that I starved myself until 2 pm that day, just so I could enjoy a donut somewhat guilt-free. I even did this on the same day as my "mock-Thanksgiving" in preparation for the pending gluttony. But when I arrived to the front of the counter, I had no idea what to order; indeed, I was donut-struck. The nice counter boy helped me. Apparently, pb was the best, but they'd just sold the last one (so long as it doesn't have jelly, I'll try that next time.) I am probably the only N. American who has never, ever, tried a pb and jelly sandwich, and I'm certainly not about to start now. So what was supposed to be a clandestine purchase of one, became a purchase of 4 to share. And they tasted almost as good the next day! The counter "jerk" was great and he picked them spot on. In order of least-desirable to best: 1. Salted Caramel-looked the best but the salt pieces were too big. I'm over the salty-sweet craze. I'd rather have pure caramel or just dump my m and m's on a bag of popcorn and call it a day. 2. Pumpkin-not bad; different but subtle in flavour; nice cake like texture. 3. Bacon Fritter-bacon was good "picked off"; fritter was delish. Again, I'd prefer one or the other, and yes, I know it's the "thing" now, but whatever. 4. Coconut-cream-type-o-Danish-I was skeptical; I hate cream in donuts, but it was awesome. When divided, we fought over that one. It was the best, true to their word. So, now that I've tried them, I can't really say that I'll be coming back here anytime soon, but I loved my coffee, my assistance, the experience, and the overall vibe. * Continues to impress * OK, I still have a mental problem calling these donuts due to the price. But today's orange pistachio ring shaped pastry was very good, and again worth the $3 price. The cake base was light, non-greasy, and had a pleasant slight chewiness. The orange flavour was clear but not overpowering. The glaze was not overly sweet. The generous amount of nuts added a wonderful textural component and complemented the orange flavour. A very nice ring shaped pastry!
