In this week's edition of Coffee Shop Saturday's, I went to the very well known and highly acclaimed 42 & Lawrence, downtown Raleigh, and I'm so glad I finally did. I lucked up and found a parking spot right across the street on this rather hot 4th of July afternoon. I'm glad they were open and I missed the crowds due to the parade & other 4th festivities nearby. The two Baristas were so awesome, I had a great time chatting with them while I waited on my delicious hot Baklava Latte w/ oat milk. I saw their post about it on their IG page and knew I had to try it. They have so many options for coffee, cold brew, matcha, tea and more. They can also make your drink however you like it. But for me if something is on the menu, it's been perfected, so I'm going to try it. They have yummy looking pastries, I'll have to go back and try one of the many varieties of croissants! I sat in the cutest little corner nook looking out the window, it was perfect!! Again, I can't believe it's taken me this long to finally check them out, but I'm super glad I did. read more

Cute little spot. A few blocks from my hotel in the city center and around the corner from the convention center. The coffee was solid and they know how to steam oat milk well! I got a lavender mocha with oat milk. The only reason why I didn't give it. A five star is because I like my coffee. Just a little bit bolder. When you put in some mixing coffee sometimes goes away. I still had the essence of coffee which let me know that it's a nice medium roast. But I do prefer a dark and bold yet, smooth roast. The blueberry pot tart was OK. The pastry part was delicious, but the blueberry filling was a little dry. I love blueberries. So glad that that was the option. Trying a few other coffee spots while here, but I can see myself coming back this week! read more

Hands down the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Flaky, buttery, just sweet enough and delicious! This was my first time going and I will definitely be back. And the woman who took my order, I assume was the owner, was so nice. read more

Good coffee and warm atmosphere. Interior is very small but well designed with a blend of modern, traditional and artistic touches (refer you to the bowler hat light fixtures!). We had a flight of coffees [macchiato, espresso, cortado, and americano]. Americano was cold : ( Espresso was very strong which I really like but may not be for everyone. Macchiato and cortado were good. Service was good. Store is clean and tidy. read more

The cinnamon crunch iced latte will make you remember how much you loved the cereal. It was delicious. The blueberry scone was flavorful and not dry. Sat at the bar height table and enjoyed the food. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. My friends had a pistachio cortado and the Taj Mahal with a lemon poppyseed muffin. We all enjoyed and will be back! read more

The owner is rude, the turnover rates speaks to that. There'a always knew baristas there. I'm assuming after a few weeks of being talked down to, they find emolument where respect resides. Over the years I've popped in and out, showing grace because it's a local business and owned by a minority woman/Asian. I've witnessed and received horrible customer service, several times. Once she overcharged me and my friend, I showed her the error on both receipts and you'd think that I was at fault, for finding HER error. She was nasty and unapologetic. Another time, I order a s'mores latte and there were large chunks of something thick floating in the cup. I called and again, met with rude, accusatory responses. Later I found out that the barista who was NEW, put a half of Graham in the latte, it became soggy and broke apart....and that's not the recipe. Today I visited and my friend and I walked in, approached the counter. We weren't greeted at all and stood at the counter waking a good 2-3 minutes. After about 3 minutes another couple walks in, stands behind us. The owner greets them and literally talks around us as if we are invisible, takes their order and starts making their coffee, while carrying on a very pleasant conversation with them. I couldn't believe it.....she's clearly got an issue with not only Black customers, but any customer who speaks to her about a bad experience or product. Not mention, she treats the unhoused people in our community as if they're trash. Find a coffee shop that shares your values and values your dollar! Never....going there....AGAIN. We stopped in for some morning fuel. The location is clean and inviting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We ordered one of the specials, the S'mores latte. It was delicious. The croissants were flaky and quite tasty. Overall I'd definitely recommend a stop in. read more

3.5 I never pass up a chance to get a lavender latte so I got one iced. It was okay. There was a subtle hint of lavender and the rest tasted a lot more like milk than coffee. What I liked more was the ambiance. It's a relatively small space with a lot of people coming in and out but I stayed a little bit to work. There are tables and high tops and the Wi-Fi was pretty strong. They also had outlets where I was sitting so it was great to just get some work done while I was waiting for a conference to start. read more

Amazing coffee, the signature lattes and drinks are what sets this place apart. The Taj Mahal is one of the best drinks I have ever had. Great vibes on the inside, people both working and just hanging out. Staff is very friendly and know their stuff - every drink has been great. read more

This place was okay. It was near empty when I got there. I ordered the coffee flight with the espresso, nitro coffee brew and cortado; none were honestly that good, and both the hot and cold drinks were lukewarm/room temperature. Also, none of the drinks had much flavor or taste. My experience wasn't that good, unfortunately. read more

Great coffee shop downtown Raleigh and in a great location. Good amount of seating inside and some outdoor seating and lots of natural light coming in from the many windows to enjoy your drink and people watch. Overall a quiet place to get some work done or just hang out. They have a nice selection wines, coffees and teas here, so whatever you are in the mood for and the customer service is always very good. read more

(4.5 stars) Named for a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference (and for local roaster Larry Larson), it is perhaps somewhat fitting that this gem of a coffee shop has become our annual post-GalaxyCon caffeinate-and-cool off destination. While it boasts a sleek modern ambiance and welcoming staff, the biggest draw can be summed up in two words: coffee flights. With options including nitro cold brews, draft lattes, and more, this is a great way to sample a bit of everything and still get your caffeine fix. They are my wife's go-to order while I usually opt for one of the seasonal drinks. The orange creamsicle I tried during our most recent visit isn't something I would repeat, but I do credit them for trying out a variety of syrups and flavors. There are plenty of coffee shops in Downtown Raleigh, but if you can abide by the limited seating, 42 and Lawrence offers all the strong coffee, inventive flavorings, and charm that you need. read more

Had a hard time finding 42 and Lawrence but was pleasantly surprised once inside! Interior is modern and harsh looking with minimal seating, doesn't have the warm, cozy coffee shop vibe I usually seek which is why I docked one star. Also had free WiFi. Service was great, drinks were brought to our table and they even warmed up the cinnamon roll we ordered. Most importantly, the drinks and cinnamon roll were great! Americano was bold and flavorful. Seasonal autumn breeze latte had notes of gingerbread and cinnamon. Yummy coffee shop in Raleigh!! I got their iced latte which had three shots of espresso with two pumps of caramel. It was ~4.75, which seemed like a pretty reasonable price to me. I also had a cinnamon roll warmed up and it was super tasty!! It was kind of flaky like a croissant and the glaze was very yummy. The service was great, definitely recommend!! read more

I am so glad I made the trek here! I ordered their Chai iced latte, and it was one of the best i've ever had. The staff is super friendly, and it's also a pretty nice to study if you can find a spot because seating is very limited. This is going to be a pretty short review, but I spent around 4 hours here and I was very productive. It's brightly lit, and there is a lot of table space to spread out your things. A small coffee shop on the corner with lots of glass windows. On a clear day as it was today, it was bright and airy inside. Very pleasant. I had a quick cortado this morning. Cortado is half espresso and half warm milk. I like these way better than lattes or cappucino. It was delicious. Rich and full of good flavor. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I enjoy visiting 42 & Lawrence because it's super pretty inside and they do offer non-coffee drinks for people like me. I stopped by to get some hot cocoa on a freakishly cold, windy day. It was a perfect pick-me-up to warm my hands and soul up. You can also add some whipped cream on your cocoa if you'd like to :) Because it's so delicious, I finished it within less than 10 minutes of getting it. I love 42 & Lawrence. It is small with limited seating but the coffee is good and it's downtown for those that like the city. You do have to pay for parking close by, which is a downside but an enjoyable spot to post up for a while.
