I have never had a Brazilian blowout and was nervous and had many questions. The stylist, C. called over another stylist R. to discuss the effect of a Brazilian. After washing my hair I sat in the chair and R. Came over to me and said that C.,was uncomfortable about doing the treatment, could I come back another days or 3 hours later! I have never been dissed by a stylist before and I left the salon with wet hair and a terrible feeling about the "professional?" women that work there. I take full responsibility for my trepidation, but to refuse doing it is unheard of. I would like to add that Rene, the owner, reached out to me and was extremely apologetic and wanted to accommodate me, any way possible, even offering to work Easter Sunday. Her apology and offer speaks volumes about her desire to please her clients. I hope no one will be influenced by this one bad experience and if time allotted, I would go back! read more

I discovered 3rd Ave Studio through their highlights + haircut promotion on Facebook, and it was exactly what I needed since I was long overdue for a refresh. This was my first time visiting, and I had Courtney as my stylist. She was so kind and really took her time to explain everything, answering all my questions about whether highlights would work with my thinning hair. She recommended babylights to create a soft, blended look that would be less harsh on fragile strands, and she finished it off with the cutest long bob cut. Owner is super nice and really cares. Will give you a good deal but I'm not sure this is communicated to the stylist.. I didn't get a price up front (their services were offered as a deal through a fb group) and was assured they could do what I wanted for the price. I will say I asked for a certain look and was told it was totally doable, within the budget I had. However, the stylist did half of the color, I'm sure it was due to my budget. I took my daughter here for a haircut, and it was a great experience. The atmosphere is nice. They have a good selection of tea and chocolates, which was nice while I waited. My daughter and I both left happy. Sarah was fast and knowledgeable and did a great job. She took her time and on the layers (I'm picky about layers) and made sure both my daughter and I liked it. The quality haircut she got would easily cost twice as much at a salon in Cherry Creek. I basically took my daughter here as a test because she would be happy no matter what. Bought a Groupon for a haircut 2 months ago and was able to book an appointment that week. I had my hair cut done by Heidi. She was running late from a fashion show and the staff were very nice and accommodating. They made sure I was comfortable waiting 15 minutes. Heidi was very professional and chatty all in a good way. She gave me wonderful advices on how to curl my hair. I only asked for a trim and my hair is usually in layers. Since I had a wedding to attend the next day, she even curled my hair for me and sprayed it down so that it would stay curly when I wake up. I would recommend this place. read more

I had a Groupon for an express mani-pedi and went in on a Friday at 11 a.m. with Renee. There was another manicurist who was doing her daughter's nails, and the three of them were discussing the daughter's love life. Renee filed my natural nails shorter than I would have liked. I think if she had been paying more attention to what she was doing and less attention to the daughter's love life, perhaps I would have been happier with the length of my nails. Towards the end of my appointment time, before getting a topcoat on my fingers, another woman and another manicurist came into the extremely small space that had been set aside for mani-pedis. The other client wanted the chair I was in, and neither Renee nor the two other manicurists were willing/able to tell her that she would have to wait until my manicure was finished. As a result, I ended up having the topcoat put on at the cash register and having to sit in the row of chairs where people sit to wait for their appointments for my nails to dry so that this other customer could have the chair I was sitting in. Renee left to go pick up her car after quickly putting on the topcoat and telling me just to sit for a few minutes. Oh, and as I said, this was done on Friday. Today is Monday and my polish is already chipping. I haven't done anything unusual over the weekend that would cause it to chip. I certainly did not feel like a valued customer, nor will I be returning. There are lots and lots of places where I can get my nails done, and where customers are valued. 3rd Avenue Studio is not one of them. read more

After reading these reviews I thought this would be a great place to get a cut... It's hard for me to find someone close who is good for a men's cut - I didn't request anyone because it was my first time. The receptionists waited for me to greet them before they said anything, or even looked at me. No one offered me a drink as someone else stated, simply told me Max would be with me shortly. When I met Max, he had a good attitude and said he was having a good day and has had some good people in his chair today - I know it wasn't an off day for him because of this. I gave him a brief description of how I wanted my hair cut and gave him the option to use scissors or clippers. He chose clippers. My hair is a little thicker on the sides, Max used this excuse as to why his clippers were pulling my hair over and over. I've been getting my hair cut for a long time and can tell you that this doesn't happen often, either his clippers are dull or he was just moving too fast..or both. Once the side of my head was a good length he took me for a shampoo. He told me how he does pageant work and work for Coleman as a stylist and model. He (comically) told me that another stylist has a big ego and continued to talk about how great he is at what he does... We went back to the chair after a fast, rough shampoo and Max began cutting my hair with scissors and comb. He finished the top up, asked if I thought the length was ok and said he'd meet me at the counter. Max didn't show me the back of my head, give me a good look at the front of my head, clean up my bangs, finish cleaning my neck hair up, or get any of the cut hair off my face, neck, or ears. $35 - 15 min... He was more focused on getting me out of his chair than doing a good job. I will likely never go back to this salon, and definitely never get my hair cut by Max again. Go to SuperCuts, $12.50 and they spend at least half an hour giving you a subpar cut. Probably won't pull all your hair either. read more

Nightmare experience! Be forewarned. I went to 3rd for years and when recently back in Denver called for an appt. New owners but they use my product and my needs were pretty simple: touchup and some highlights with as the stylist said " a tad of lowlights." I brought my formula from the hairdresser where I live so it was not brain surgery. Yet for this hairdresser and the owner it seemed to be. I showed the formula texted from my hairdresser yet they seemed dumbfounded. That's when I should have left. I suggested the owner call my home hairdresser. But then she read the texted formula and gave an 'Ah hah!" and I thought we were in business. The hairdresser Stephanie was very slow. But I had my earbuds in and listed to a book. The real thrill came after the foils were removed and the hair washed. Stephanie said 'it may seem dark because the hairs wet.' I'm blond. Instead of a 'tad' of lowlights in the front, I ended up with a 2 inch band of dark ash brown in the very front of my hair. I could have slopped brown in a big strip myself. Expressing my distress, Stephanie started to say something about 'it could wash out in several days.' I don't go to salons to wash out for several days and there's no way the blob of brown is every going to blend. Amateurs and unskilled stylists. The only reason they get one star is because that's necessary to post. Again: Be forewarned. Slow and sloppy, untrained. read more

Six silver little hairs were all it took to draw me to this studio - which also happens to be the new digs of my one-and-only stylist. I'm so glad I went (and not just for my near escape from the aforementioned silver youth bandits!). 3rd Ave Studio is located in a very small shopping plaza nestled in the upscale neighborhood just off of 6th Ave East. Parking is easy to find, as is the studio itself (just off of 3rd & Holly). The ambience of the studio is, to my mind, very calming - warm colors and woodwork, a nice layout with windows that look out onto the street/sidewalk, and the lighting isn't too harsh (you know what I mean... it sucks to get your hair foxed out when your make-up is starting to suck and/or shine...). Tons of product to select from, as well as magazines, and the staff are friendly (especially Anna, who is, by the way, my stylist from a prior salon). I have to say, I REALLY like this place better then where she was before - way back in the day she used to be at The Parlour downtown and I missed it! 3rd Ave Studio brings back some of that older-city feel with the same hair-styling chops I discovered via Anna back in the day. So if you're hearing voices in your head, you're not schizo - your silver hairs are probably just hankering for a visit to 3rd & Holly. :) read more

Johanna Hansen, stylist, at 3rd Ave Studio has made my day! I went in to have a mani-pedi as part of a groupon deal in January and watched three customers of Johanna's come and go while I was there. She transformed each from drab to fab in mere minutes! (I should preface by saying that I had been going to the same Aveda hairstylist for a few years, but had recently begun to feel that we were growing apart. Needless to say, I was open to new possibilities.) I immediately set up an appointment to see Johanna and I am so glad I did! I now have an adorable, swingy, layered look that's light and bright...just in time for Spring. The best thing I can say about Johanna is that she really listened to me when I explained to her what I wanted. You see, I have *very* sensitive skin. And, not only does she carry product that contains no parabens/sulfates, but she also has a technique that allows me to have color! The few times I had received color in the last few years it nearly burnt my scalp clean off. Johanna uses a special oil to prevent this from happening. Plus, you'll love the space; it's very clean, the decor has a very classic feel with a hint of trendy, and is also in a central location (3rd & Holly). In regards to price, Johanna charges a fee comparable to others with her experience. The difference is that you can go in with confidence that you'll leave sporting a great 'do! read more

Being new to Denver and overdue for a color, this Yelper decided upon Third Ave because of a friend's recommendation. Booking an appointment was a breeze and the front desk was just as friendly when I checked in as they were on the phone. The salon is tucked within a cute neighborhood, and the space is relaxed and inviting without an air of pretension. (The free parking didn't hurt, either.) I had come in just to bring my hair back to a dark brown and ended up with haircut as well! My stylist Christian took such care of me and really listened to what I wanted (a problem I've had with hairdressers in the past). We ended up selecting a dark brown and red undertones, and I've already gotten so many compliments after one week. I'm so glad I found my home salon here! read more

I'm a normal guy who needed a nice hair cut for my wedding, so I looked around and found 3rd Avenue Studio open on Sundays and available for walk-ins. I couldn't be happier with Linda, who was working the front desk. She kindly asked if I wanted anything while I waited. I only waited for a few minutes before Natasha, my hair stylist, introduced herself. She was phenomenal. Engaging and really, really talented at her job. I don't remember ever having a better haircut. With shampoo/rinse and rinse after the cut, it was only $30. I expected the price to be way higher for such great service! read more

Great salon! I've been going to Shantele for almost a year and she is fabulous. Her cuts and blow drys are unsurpassed, not to mention her shampoos! She is the best! She cares what you think and is a perfectionist. Her professionalism is amazing. I recommend Shantele at 3rd Avenue Studio for cuts, blow drys, Brazlilians -- anything that you need. I am not even a customer of this salon yet (and possible I may not get to be one for a long time due to my current hair issue), but I must give a 5-star rating simply for their customer service as I have experienced it so far. In a panic this morning I was sending messages to many Denver salons seeking guidance on my hair and a snafu I made with henna coloring. I received a very honest, timely response from the owner of this salon, Irene. This resulted in us chatting in what was basically an over-the-phone consultation that lasted about 30 minutes. Seriously? I am not even a customer yet and this woman spoke to me for half an hour. From this experience alone I could tell that this place truly cares about the people they work on (unlike my other hair experiences as of late). I feel very comfortable and at ease about getting in there and consulting with a handful of her stylists that she personally recommended. Whether they can help me with my hair right now or not, I am grateful to have at least come across a business so willing to engage with me and invite me in for a free consult and offer some solutions for my current hair problem. I've been coming to this salon since 2005, and specifically to see Marie. She's been cutting and coloring my hair for almost 7 years, which is crazy since I was a stylist hopper before. We've had a great time together, and I've continually received compliments on my hair. I've had a few other experiences at this salon and all have been equally positive--facials, waxing, nails. What I love is you get all of the high-end skills you'd find in Cherry Creek, but without the stuck-up attitude. Everyone is laughing and having a good time from what I can tell. Best of all: the salon is open 7 days a week, so if you have a brow wax emergency on a Sunday afternoon, you can take care of it. The only reason I'd leave is if Marie leaves. I purchased a Groupon Now for this place, sort of on a whim. $65 cut and color. They told me the day was pretty booked, but had two times open. Luckily, one of them worked for me, but they were willing to honor it the next day if not. The salon isn't fancy, open stations not shoved up against any walls. It is in a sort of shopping center, which kind of turned me off at first, but this "shopping center" has cute things like a "Meat and Cheese" shop. I had a hard time finding the door, but once I made it in I was smilingly greeted. My stylist Sean, was great. A sort of no-frills, awesome mom, which was great. We talked a lot about Televsion, since we are both obsessed. I liked not having to be too cool before entering. She mixed some colors together to cover my wild colors from before (I needed a change I could wash more often), and while I let that process she had another client. I then wanted her to chop my hair like Ginnifer Goodwin's short pixie cut, which is not a lot different from the way my hair was. It is a nice haircut, my hair looks healthy and shiny, but upon further inspection, my lady burns (side burns for folks with short hair) were very uneven. One was pointy, the other blunt. It isn't enough to make me not like the salon or my hair, in fact, when I asked a couple people they said it looked intentional. I left buying some shampoo and conditioner, expensive stuff, for dry and itching scalps, but honestly, it is amazing. Super tingly, and has improved my hair and scalp. I like that. She also used some stuff called, "Cowboy Magic" detangler and shine enhancer, usually for horses, but it worked so well, I purchased some online and started using it too. My hair looks and feels awesome. I would go back! read more
