About 10 years ago I was new to the neighborhood and lucky enough to stumble into Indie Six for an appointment with Alicia Kuiken! She's been my stylist ever since and has become the stylist for many of my friends and family. Alicia is kind, friendly, and I always look forward to the appointment. The quality of her work and products speaks for itself. We have done many colors and styles through our time together and I always get so many compliments. The last several years we have done vivid blues and greens. I have never had a color that stays longer and makes my hair feel healthy. The color doesn't fade and covers my grays so well, which says a lot about the quality of the products she uses. I usually go in every 3/4 months to get it recolored and it's only because my grays are growing in. Alicia also started cutting my kiddos hair when he was 1 and she is so good with him. She is great at listening to what he wants and making sure that she really understands. She is great with him and he loves going in to see her to get a fresh do. I received a haircut that I wasn't satisfied with in January from Alex. I was hoping to have a short trim, but received such a short cut that it's taken 10 months to go past my chin. Since then, Alex has texted my number about 15 times either asking me to make an appointment or asking me to vote for him in Muscle & Fitness magazine. This afternoon I asked him to be taken off of his text list so that I won't receive any more texts, considering I wasn't planning on receiving another haircut from him. He told me that I should have blocked him if it's "effecting your life so terribly" and to "be smarter." This review is more about the customer care than about the actual hair service. I got my hair done with Angela a week ago. She did a great job helping me make a decision about what it was that I wanted to do with my hair. It did not come out as I wanted or as we discussed AT ALL. I'll give it to her that ok, that was miscommunication. That's understandable. But what I am really upset by is that she had zero empathy or urgency for the fact that I had to go a week with a hat on my head because I was so embarrassed by my hair situation and the fact that it did not match my personality at all and wasn't even close to what we had originally discussed or picture matched. BUT IT GETS WORSE. She took always 2 days to even get back to me about rescheduling the appointment and by then I had reached out to 5 other stylists to fix my hair. I sent her a very respectful message asking for a partial refund back since I had to go get the service completely redone and my hair stripped of the color she put on my head...which took 4 hours to remove (which I guess is a good thing if I wanted that color lol). So anywho, I wrote her a message saying she can keep the tip, keep the haircut $, keep the price or product, but that I would like something back for the fact that this was something I had to get fixed and was very unhappy with. I did have a lot of conflicting emotions about the hair after the appointment because it looked completely different in every single different kind of lighting. But at the end of the day, I was very uncertain and did walk out of that salon with a gut feeling that it wasn't me. She responded to this text extremely rudely. Zero apologies, basically saying we could talk but no lol. 5 days goes by and she makes zero effort to actually have this conversation. I finally reached out telling her I'm still waiting to hear back and she calls me "entitled" a "brat" talks down to me constantly with words like "sweetheart," etc and finishes it off with "do not contact me about this again."....that to me is just extremely poor customer service and very very rude. Especially since my initial reach out to her was written by my new hairstylist who helped me word is the way that A HAIRSTYLIST would want to be spoken to respectfully regarding the issue. I understand everyone is stressed and worried about money, but that includes me...and to have spent that much $ on my hair to just be overlooked and talked to like I'm trash is just really upsetting to me. I'd still recommend this salon for services as her work is fine and she has a lot of happy customers, but just felt I should give everyone a warning that if you're not POSITIVE about what it is you want done to your hair, be careful. And make sure to never upset Angela because she will react very ugly. read more

My cut was not as bad as my color, but still not good. My color was way blonder than I wanted and it completely fried my hair. I asked for a full highlight and was talked into getting a partial. So my hair was blonde as could be on top and dark underneath. In reality it was because she scheduled a haircut between and didn't have the time to do a full. Once she finished the other persons cut, she took a phone call that lasted at least another 20 mins and never checked my foils. On top of it, I got home to pull it back and she didn't get anywhere near the roots and had huge dark spots between the root and the color. Then I also noticed she left two long pieces that I had to have my man fix for me. I'm sure she was rushing, as she had another appt waiting. The next day in the shower my hair broke off and it's taken a lot of work to get my hair back to the correct color and back to health. Sucks to spend $150 for a horrible experience. It should be about quality, not quantity. read more

My roommate introduced me to this place. I have to say, this is not your typical salon, or your typical group of stylist. First, right off the bat, all the girls that work there are hot, and they have tattoos, and they have a calender, and they are just fricken cool! Second, they care about the community and their customers and they make you feel so comfortable when you are there, and for someone like me who is pretty shy and quiet, that says A LOT. The salon it's self is sooooo cool, it's a tiny old house on 6th, and you can not beat their prices. This is not your mothers salon, or your fathers barber. Okay - so I am admittedly "hair challenged." I am not a high maintenance sort of girl, and I think it sorta showed. When I got engaged, I started thinking about kicking my hair routine up a notch. I wanted pretty locks for the big day. So, I started salon shopping and stumbled upon Indie Six. Amber rocked my world with her special shining treatments, and didn't push me to get highlights or any other crazy services. After a few visits, my hair was much more behaved!!!Eyebrow waxing by Alicia is fantastic I never leave with the "surprised" look - she listens and gets it just right. Everyone at the salon is super fun! I actually look forward to catching up with them at each appointment ; ) I wound up having Amber and Alicia come out to get me ready for the big day - and they rocked it. My hair and makeup looked absolutely AMAZING, and I enjoyed spending half the day with them while they worked their magic on my sisters, mom and mom-to-be. A tip on scheduling - Girls - I would recommend making an appointment. They do take walk ins, but you'll most likely have to wait a while. My stylist was Alicia, and I would absolutely, without a doubt recommend her. She was very friendly, accommodating and did an excellent job on my hair! I thought my hair looked awesome after meeting w/ Ryan (I think that was his name...mind is going). It even looked pretty good when I did it later on, and they got me in right away. Now why 4 stars not 5: my husband. I got him in right after me and I said don't cut off his hair. Keep it long. My husband will actually let someone Marine cut his hair b/c either he doesn't pay attention or doesn't care. But he has McDreamy hair, so I do care how long it is. I think I said it like 6 times, and then my husband comes home an hour later - Army cut. Luckily Army 3rd year (meaning not too high and tight). Boo! What? No?!?! I didn't want that!! It grows, but I mean...ummm...I have to look at it until then. :( Overall though, great job and I'll be back...of course in times I'm not in a rush. :) read more

After a devastating color mishap with my regular hairdresser I walked into Indie Six looking for help. Amber greeted me at the door and I shared with her what had happened. My regular hair dresser had turned me from a natural blonde into a deep purple/red head. Red is not my color. Amber calmed me down and helped me make an appointment. During our appointment she did a full color correction and it turned out beautifully! I walked out with my confidence back! Amber took the time to listen to what I wanted to try and accomplish, looked at pictures of my normal hair color, and consulted with the other stylists. I have been getting my hair cut by Angela for years (and she does hair for most of my friends, too). I've generally had a pretty plain long haircut, but decided I wanted something different. So - I called Angela to give her a heads up on my plan. She had something in mind, and we went for it - ended up cutting off 4 or 5 inches of my hair. I thought I liked my last stylist. I always thought my hair looked great when I left the salon--even if it never looked all that great when I styled it myself. But every time I called to make an appointment, my stylist was always out of town. Finally I asked one of my more stylish friends for a recommendation, and I ended up with Alicia at Indie Six. OK, so now I know that my old stylist was just so-so. I've had three cuts and two colors from Alicia, and I am thrilled with my hair. It looks good when I style it, not just when I walk out of the salon--and it continues to look good as it grows out. Alicia actually listens to what I want, and has a real dialog with me about what the cut will look like and any other options I might have. So that's the whole point, right? But here's the bonus: I actually enjoy talking to these people. Usually talking to my stylist is like talking to the dentist: uncomfortable and a chore and unavoidable. But at Indie Six, it's more like chatting with a friend, and not someone I have nothing to say to. Fabulous! One last thing. As another review noted, this place isn't speedy. Gosh I really wish I could say good things about my experience here! the girls are nice, and they managed to *squeeze* me in last minute. but it ended up being a bad choice afterall. i showed up at the salon at 5:15 p.m. and left at 9 p.m. with unwanted streaks in my hair, a bleach-stained sweater (ruined) and i had to ride my bike home with foil still in my hair. Admittedly, I was the one who decided I needed to leave (I had a puppy at home who couldn't be alone for several hours, i didn't think it was going to take 4 + hours to do my hair.) my lesson here was don't EVER let a salon or hair stylist "squeeze you in" it's always better just to wait. read more

I used to go here when it first opened up. Was looking for a non-snobby, anti-thesis of cherry creek/antoine du chez place to hang my hair and this was it for awhile. Gradually, these 4 or 5 women who were cool became pretty self absorbed and it felt like I was paying $120-$150 to hear about their photo shoots/promo parties and listen to them have conversations with each other. Going to indie 6 stopped being fun and I started to dred spending 2 hours of my life there every 6 weeks. I did always like my hair though, so if that is the end all be all for you then by all means check it out. read more

I have been to this salon twice, both with great results but a lousy experience. The first time I went it was near the holidays so I figured they were just busy and that was the reason for the slow service. It took over 3 hours for a simple cut and all over color. It is a small salon, and when I was in there only two girls were working. I had to get out of the chair several times DURING my haircut so another client could get a quick trim. My hair looked great when it was finally done..three hours later. The second time I went was several months later and they were no where near as busy to my delight. However the stylists that were working there spent more time whining to each other about their husbands than paying attention to me. When she was rinsing out my color she was so busy talking that she sprayed my entire back with water and didn't notice until I said something about it. I had to sit soaking wet for the next two hours while she took forever to cut my hair. This is a "cool" salon. The girls are cute and they even have a calender. Personally those factors don't matter to me. I want to have an enjoyable time getting my hair done and not be there for hours on end. If you are on a time crunch or want some personal attention, DO NOT GO TO INDIE SIX. I am so not impressed read more

I went in the other day to see Alicia Kuiken. I went in platinum blonde with dirty brown roots. I didn't want to he platinum so i asked her for a weave with a few lowlights to make it fade in better throught the bottom. Something i have had done many times and same day appointment. I arrive at 11:05 after texting her and telling her i would be five mins late, my appointment started at 11am. Her boyfriend was there and she was cutting his hair till about 1130 as i sat and waited. By the time she mixee up everything, i showed her what i wanted, it was about noon before she started. During my appointment, which took 4 hours, she foiled me, and then had me sit while she did a hair cut, a mans. Which is fine, she had said it was customary to do so, which in the past i know but you dont just leave someone with bleach on their head and not check on them. So she finishes up and comes and takes my foils out and washes me, she said her second hair cut was running late so, we had time to wash and do toner, which she left on me for over 25 mins, wrapped in a towel while she cut this guys hair. She said we would leave it for ten, told the guy she would have to stop and do my hair after 10 mins but never did. When she finally finished, he paid she returned to wash me out and had said some of the low lights bled onto the blonde but this is a muilti time process ( which i know it isnt because i have had it done before, twice) she washed me out with hot water, and when i sat up and saw i was literally appalled. She started to bush me out, i helped with a comb and then she started to blow dry, saying i know its not exactly what u want but with time we will get it perfect and i made it stop, and i stormed out throwing 150$ which i expect back. I had told her about it and wanted me to come in so she could fix it, but no, i am good. I tracked down through a friend this girl lauren at Cili salon in greenwood village. I went in the next day, she couldnt believe what my hair looked like and coupdnt even guess what she did from looking at it. When i told her, she said it had to be the toner. But when she started to dig through, she asked if i had even seen the back of it. I said no so she took a picture which i will attach. You be the judge. At one time i had 4 girls trying to figure out what to do and not fry my hair off but get out the grey from the toner being left on so long. Alicia asked me to remove my review and i did, but after thought( and i think she did it, in hopes if i got my money back which she said she would mail to be id be ok) i missed two days of work, because i am a dancer and if i dont feel good, which i cried because after 4 hours and leavint with not what u wanted i couldnt go to work, spent the next day tracking someone down which took her only 2 hours to fix. I dont like being asked to remove my experience because its bad for your business. Making someone wait, doing three haircuts, leaving toner is bad for business. You lost 3 customers. And if you dont send my money, that finen at least ill save someone from the nightmare experience. I am lucky i had to 120$ to get it fixed. Most people may not. Now i have to wait 8 weeks before i can go back to have her keep fixing it. I moved to Denver a year ago and a friend recommended this salon to me. I went initially for a casual cut and color, which Peggy did perfectly. Fast forward to a few months later when I decided I wanted to go platinum and short and, yet again, she killed it. Seriously, I look like Daenerys Targaryen and people ask me all the time "Who does your hair?". Peggy is amazing. So far, she is the only one in the shop who's touched my mane, so I can't personally speak to their skill, but I've seen the other girls' finished products and they are always on point. I have to go in a lot for root touch ups and I never mind because it always feels like seeing a friend. All the girls are so friendly and laid back, yet professional. Seriously, just go here. Cannot say enough good things about indie six. I first came upon their salon at a luxury bridal show in Denver where the models walked the runway with incredible 40s inspired hair styles. I was getting married that year and had been searching for a salon I could trust to make my bridesmaids and myself look amazing on the big day. Amber went above and beyond on the day of my wedding, she worked with not only my budget but my bridesmaids as well. Her styling is truly inspired and thoughtful. My hairstyle ended up being pinned and repinned 100s of times on Pinterest and was featured on the style me pretty international wedding blog. I just went back last week in hopes of taking my natural blonde color to a much lighter, "snowy white" blonde color. I just moved to Denver on Friday and really needed to get my hair cleaned up and reshaped. I am very particular about my stylist and always dread going to a new place because I'm always nervous that I'll hate what someone new does to my hair. Not this time. I walked in and immediately love the shop. I worked with Megan and she was wonderful. Funky, hilarious, refreshing, and did a damn good job on my hair. Indie six is the only place I'll go to get my hair done in Denver! I always go to Angela because I love her but I would have no problem going to the other girls. They're all very friendly and knowledgable. Angela has been a hair stylist for many years and has mastered her craft. One thing I always hate about getting a cut and dye is that sometimes I'm stuck at a salon for 2-3 hours! Angela is efficient and always has me out of there in 90 min for cut & color.
