Paul is absolutely amazing. A scientist and an artist of hair. I've lived all over the country and been to dozens (at least) of salons, and this was my best experience ever - by far. Finding the salon and parking are both easy. When you walk through the door, the space is warm, open, and inviting. All around comfortable. And the process of getting your haircut is as unique and white-glove as you'll find anywhere. Even better than upscale boutique places in cities like LA. I am writing a follow up to my review. My apologies for not seeing how to respond directly to Paul's response. I immediately called the owner, Paul, after my haircut. He first asked me to come in. When I was unsure, he then asked me to schedule time the following week. I was very clear I wanted a refund and voiced concern anyone at his salon cutting my hair again, because the cut was so bad. When I finally said I'd come right back, he said to not do so and that he'd just refund me. Moreover, the cut is so bad, I will have to get it corrected. I can't wear it down at work, or anywhere for that matter. it will take many months to grow back. If the owner truly stands by his work, as he says he does, then I'd again reiterate my strong recommendation to not go to this salon. read more

poor, poor cut by owner. "he stands behind his work " as he says with all negative reviews. however, he took all of my money and had no interest to see what he didn't do correctly that everyone else can clearly see and i can feel. and he couldn't care less that i, too worked hard for my money . however as a woman who has been on disability, i get to gift paul while he gives some a refund. hmm. he was not quite himself the second time , but he's too proud to admit mistakes. i don't recommend at all. paul said he returned my call. there is the lack of truth. . i have one big pet peeve- dishonest people. if he took pictures of my poofy hair with all of his hairspray, it was still not what i requested as i don't do my hair like that. when my hair had all of that stuff washed out, it was apparent to all that he missed the mark completely. yes, i leave a message or so at night. i have a pain disease which i am up at night and that's just not a crime, buddy. you were fast asleep ( lucky you) and as i stated, no one ever bothered to return my call. i wouldn't recommend this person based on his poor work and his amazingly rude demeanor. its uncalled for. i tried to believe in him. i surely don't now and i don't recommend him. his dog is the best of what he offers. what a mean spirited person he is if you don't just accept whatever he says is truth. he certainly wasn't the quality stylist i tried the first time.your welcome , paul for my money and my time. now ill go again and have someone else do it correctly. he didn't need to waste my money and my time. i guess he is calling the people who saw his subpar work liars as well. he's not worth it. but he had no right to disrespect my desires for my hair and not do quality. good bye to this rather unpleasant guy unless he is agreed with every step of the way. no thanks. i have a say in my hair and not everyone else lies about how you did my hair. good grief. arrogance is unnecessary . read more

This was my first visit to Alchemy Salon. I just moved to the area and decided to try this place out after reading all the 5 star reviews. I was not disappointed! The service is second to none and I love the ambience of the place. Brenda was my hair stylist and was super attentive. She asked me questions I hadn't been asked by a stone before, such as what do I like about my hair and what do I not like? It seems simple but just shows you how much they work to bring out the best in your hair. Paul , the storeowner, was there. He was so friendly and funny! You can just tell he loves what he does. Not to mention, he has the cutest doggo in there! It was evident she was the salon's adorable mascot and greeter. My hair turned out lovely! Wow! What a great salon, great service and Paul is amazing! This was my first time getting a Brazilian blowout and I was a little nervous. Paul put me at ease instantly with his knowledge and savvy skills. He walked me through the whole process as he was performing the blowout so that I would fully understand. I am probably atypical when it comes to women's hair care. I don't do much with my hair except get it cut every now and then. However, I have wanted to get a pixie cut for quite a while having put up with long, thick hair for years now. I didn't want something this drastic to be done at a normal haircut chain place so I researched salons in the area. I have to say Brenda did a great job with my hair and I managed to come out of it thinking I made the right decision because it felt like a big deal. Hair is so personal and has such an effect on you when it's done right and I can say without a doubt... for the last few years I've been coming to this salon, I always leave with a big smile on my face and a whole new burst of confidence. The attention to detail is impossible to match. And Paul's brazillian blowout technique is the best in Denver. I recently started getting tape in extensions done with Paul and I couldn't be happier!!! Just got my hair cut by Paul and had to come home and write a review. Start to finish, I loved my experience with him! Things I look for in a hair stylist are: 1. Convenience of booking and availability 2. Timeliness and personability 3. Of course, artful manipulation of my hair On all three counts, Paul gets full marks. 1. He has online booking that is easy to use, and he had multiple time slots available even though I was looking for the next day. Prices are also clearly displayed on his website, which I appreciate. 2. I arrived on time for my appointment, and Paul literally opened the door for me as I walked up, greeting me warmly and welcoming me in. The salon is currently under renovation on one side, but I can tell Paul has excellent taste and it will be lovely when it's done, and did not impede my service in any way. 3. Paul asked very thoughtful questions during the consultation phase of the appointment, particularly because I was looking at cutting a fair amount of length off, and he made me feel very comfortable and in control. We chatted and laughed as he massaged my scalp, washed my hair, and brushed it out. His talent was apparent as he cut my hair, and he really took his time to make sure that the cut flattered my face and hair texture, and even took the time to curl it for me before I left. I purchased a living social voucher for a Brazilian Blowout and am beyond pleased with the results. Paul is talented and knowledgeable and the B-hive is a hidden gem. Well worth the 20 minute drive from central denver for gorgeous hair! Update: 3 years later, I've moved to CA and still go to (now) Alchemy salon whenever I visit. I've had blowouts and keratin treatments from many other salons and they are never as good; they don't last as long and (in CA) are more expensive. read more

It is about time I write this review. I went to Paul's salon a week ago to get a Brazilian Blowout and I was very nervous about results I might get. I have shampooed my hair three times so far and it looks exactly as it did when I walked out of the salon. I have relatively thin but naturally very curly hair and I have been getting BB twice a year for the past five years. It was my first time at Alchemy's and I will definitely go back. After not having my haircut for over a year I made an appointment with Brenda who I remember being wonderful and loving her skill and technique. When I arrived I was the only customer there along with the two stylists, Brenda and Paul.. When I was getting my haircut I overheard Paul and another customer talking about freedom and not wearing masks. To my surprise when I looked up while having my hair blown dry I saw both Paul and the customer NOT wearing a mask sitting close to one another talking and laughing. I told Brenda who was wearing a mask that the fact they were not wearing there masks was uncomfortable. She immediately went over and politely asked them to put their masks on which they did. Brenda's cut and styling receive a definite 5, however since the salon owner obviously appears to be an anti masker and will publicly speak about it in front of other abiding customers I am completely turned off by the salon not abiding by city regulations and question his management of any and all health protocols. It's unfortunate that Paul would feel comfortable voicing his private opinion infront of other customers whose circumstances they do not know. Brenda is fabulous point blank. I hope Paul does not continue to make other customers feel uncomfortable during these times and take clients away from Brenda. read more

Like other reviewers, I went to Paul nervous about my first Brazilian blowout. Having never done anything chemical with my hair (no dye, no perm, nothing but haircuts), I wasn't sure how my hair would react and whether I'd be pleased enough to do it again. He explained the process before starting and talked to me throughout, which was reassuring. I, of course, loved my hair when I left the salon, but waited a week to see how my hair looked when I did it. I'm definitely a convert to the style and the salon. I'm of Indian descent and have thick, wavy hair that looks like the 'before' image in the old VO5 commercial if I don't blow dry and straighten my hair. I've wished for straight hair my whole life, and I love how straight it is now. I still use a flat iron, but it's so much less time and a much better outcome day in and day out. And it's not terrible if I walk out of the house with wet hair. Thanks Paul! Firstly I scheduled online and was concerned because I have long thick hair and I know although I haven't had a haircut in 8 years that it would be a chore to cut because of the length and thickness. So I called a week ahead and left a detailed message about that, knowing that the quoted amount of money to be charged probably wasn't enough and I was willing to pay more to get what I wanted, which was 6 inches off the length and layers, as my hair is all one length. I received a text message reply that no charge for long hair, not a phone call which is what I would have preferred so I could explain more about my hair. So I confirmed my appointment and waited. The day came and I was real excited because I was really gonna get it cut. I left work early and thought I would arrive early so we could chat a little prior to the cut and I had pictures of what I wanted. When I walked thru the door a man named Paul greeted me, and the look on his face was not pleasant. I asked him if I could show him my pictures of what I wanted and told him about the 6 inches off. He had no interest in seeing my pictures and said there was only one way to cut my hair and was insistent on getting my jacket to hang so we could begin to wash my hair, I told him about the 6 inches off again and he said " there is only one way to cut your hair. I told him that I had called to make him aware of my hair and he said" you said long hair, but this is something else" waving his hand over my hair. What I received was a trim and a blow dry. I offered to pay more to get what I want but he said he would keep his quoted price. Not what I wanted. Not professional at all. Will not return here as I felt like I did something wrong because I have long thick hair, which I tried to tell him. Shame on him! Not personable at all! read more
