Tried something new today. The 39 Restaurant, located just north of the Old Paris flea market, in the First Americans Museum, behind the OKANA facility off Eastern Ave. First off. Parking. Thumbs down. Not because there isn't places to park. But the ticket QR code didn't work. The button to get parking validated didn't work. So I just paid the extra $10 and moved on with my life. Restaurant service was top notch. We got there right at opening and we were the first to be seated. It's was our waitress's 3rd day, but she was awesome. I had the burger with an added egg. My GF had the cornbread French toast. Both meals for brunch were delicious. Highly recommend, although the French toast was a different texture than you're used to so that may not be your thing. The beef/bison burger has a rich smoky flavor to it that I really enjoyed. Very clean restaurant with updated look and feel inside.
Loved the restaurant, loved the plants on the patio, loved the service, loved the drink, loved the food. It was such a great experience. The squash blossom fritters had this delightful lemon aioli, with light, battered, fried squash blossoms and sprinkled with red peppercorns and sage. I loved this dish. The Sage Advice drink with gin, pineapple juice, lemon, sage, sparkling water I think... it all just works so well! I could have enjoyed many of these! The grilled fish tacos were good, but the tortillas were a little stiff, so that made it difficult to eat. I ended up eating only one of the tortillas, instead of both of them (2 per taco). The fish seemed a little sparse. I'd rather have more fish on 2 tacos, than less fish on 3 tacos. The pickled onions were good. I got the green sauce on the side. It was a bit spicy so glad I did. I did like it, but the heat built the more I ate. When I return, I'll try something else. I may have enjoyed it more fried instead of grilled. The hominy stew with bison was fabulous! I loved the meat. I loved the soup. It was so flavorful. The food and everything about this place is amazing.
Came on a Saturday night around 8pm it wasn't packed at all , we were greeted and seated shortly. Our waitress was so great ,such a good personality . To eat I tried the elote bruschetta and the rabbit tamales Both were tasty but had a little kick to them especially this green sauce on the tamales and the elote bruschetta was different. It was very quiet but the food was out quick . Also had these crispy smashed potato's they didn't come out how I thought they would but they were super good and helped with the spiciness
Good quality food but a bit rich and pricey. The menu was small but we still loved everything we ate. Our server was really nice and engaging The place feels like you should dress fancy (even though we didn't)
From the moment we walked in the door, we received a warm greeting and great service. Our questions about menu items were answered to our satisfaction and we were pleased with our selection. The hibiscus lemon drop mocktail was very refreshing. We had the green chili sweet corn hummus with multiple layers of creaminess and crunch and just as much flavor, served with delicious flatbread. The entrees did not disappoint: the ribeye was cooked to perfection and paired nicely with the mushrooms and potatoes, the stuffed acorn squash was a beautiful presentation and equally satisfying with depth of flavor and the frybread taco was a feast in and of itself, delightfully seasoned beef and beans absorbing just enough on the frybread and garnished with greens, radishes, peppers and radishes. We will definitely be returning!
This is a great restaurant located in the First American's Museum. Make time for lunch there when you visit the museum. I had the hominy stew with bison. It's a huge portion, perfectly spiced. My husband had a duck dish with delicious, smokey black beans. And the ice cream - a trio of corn, sage and a fruit topped with a lovely leaf cookie. The views match the beauty of the food.
I really enjoyed this revamped version of 39 Restaurant and its emphasis indigenous ingredients. It really brought a uniqueness to its menu and stands out among the culinary scene, frankly across the globe. It is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The Hominy & White Bean Hummus was so delicious and the Bison Ribeye with the mash and mushrooms just melted in mouth. The staff was so kind, patient, and informative. It's such a unique experience, and I think anyone in or visiting Oklahoma needs to try it. Another cool aspect is the comfortable ambience and the adjacent plant garden you can visit during your dining visit. A lot of words just to say, VERY GOOD! Lol It was beautiful evening right off the river, adjacent to the new OKANA resort. I'm really hoping that this district brings more visitors and locals. It's the best kept secret that should be no secret.

For lunch, I had the half order of hominy stew with a half turkey sandwich. The stew is reminiscent of pozole with a warm consome, with the addition of tender bison topped with fresh greens, tortilla strips, and crema. This was so comforting! The turkey sandwich was an amazing accompaniment. The bread itself was the MVP as it was buttery and crunchy. The inside was like the best thanksgiving dinner you've ever had, packed in a sandwich. We finished off our meal with the blackberry cobbler. This take featured buttery, flaky pastry in a bath of blackberry compote. The corn ice cream on the side had a very light flavor of sweet corn that was not overpowering. The service was lovely! I'm not sure the next time I'll be in town, but if I am, I'm definitely stopping here. 10/10!
This might be my favorite overall experience of the year so far. After walking into the first Americans building you'll find this really beautiful restaurant. The service here was impeccable Justice. Our waiter was great and attentive and the rest of the staff was quick to to fill in wherever necessary. Chef Loretta spent quality time at each table speaking to each guest. It felt almost like eating at a friend's house. It doesn't matter if all those things were great and the food wasn't but luckily with all that going on the food is the star of the show! We had a decent amount of the brunch menu and it was fantastic. All the food here is pre-colonial and locally sourced and you can taste it. Everything we had was fantastic. The mud bug stew had great flavor And spy similar to great dishes in Louisiana, the biscuits and gravy is now in my top two in the Metro, the breads are fantastic and the cinnamon roll is a must And get the duck confi salad sandwich!
I heard about the restaurant before the museum and put it on my list to experience some indigenous foods. The menu is regularly changing, but on my visit I was a bit disappointed that it was more accents of native ingredients rather than meals centered around them (at least as far as foods that I actually like). That said, I certainly enjoyed the meal and the museum as well. Maybe they're busier other times of the year, but this June Sunday around noon was pretty relaxed.

This was an an amazing farm-to-plate restaurant featuring ingredients from 39 local farms and vendors. The restaurant is located inside the First Americans Museum. I had no idea when Joy and I were visiting the museum that this restaurant was even here. But, I'm glad we found it, becsuse it was amazing. The food was so fresh and well prepared. I had the Buffalo Cheeseburger with fries. Well seasoned. The fries were a little over salted, but had a winderful taste and crunch to the. I would have liked the burger to be medium to medium rare, but I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked. Joy gad the Smoked Turkey Stuffed Acorn Squash which she said tasted really good. Not overly smoked and seasoned well. Our waitress was great. She had an easy job as we were the only ones there. But she was very informative about the ingredients and kept our glasses filled. The restaurant was very clean and quiet. Outside was an agricultural display showing plants of Native Americans. I would definitely go back and try dinner there. I also assume that the menu could change based on availability of ingredients. Might be fun to go back in the Winter and Spring to see what might change. read more

We were driving home through OKC and needed to feed our family. We discovered 39 Restaurant and were so glad we did! It's tucked in the FAM building (in the museum lobby) and is a gem. The service was friendly and attentive, especially our waitress JJ! I had smoked turkey in an acorn squash, so delicious! Some of our family had bison burgers and found them to be tasty and moist. My husband also had the venison chili- very rich and enjoyable. My mother in law had the strawberry salad and loved it as well as the fry bread. The garden outside is also lovely with lots of herbs and native plants. Great discovery and tasty indigenous dishes. Highly recommend! read more

Sat right away and waitress came right over for drink order. Ordered a mushroom flatbread, was not impressed with it, just like cream cheese and a few mushrooms on a tough round flatbread. Bison burger was overcooked and has no real flavor, fries however were yummy. Native salad was bland, nice fresh ingredients but dressing was bland. Potato soup was delicious, so much flavor. read more

The title 39 represents the 39 tribes. The restaurant is housed in the First Americans Museum. The menu is inspired by First Americans. There is a lot of corn, bison, grain, and beans. I had the corn ribs, which is specially and creatively prepared corn with sumac butter, queso fresco, cilantro, smoked jalapeño aioli, and chili oil. Fantastic! I also had the bison burger, which was juicy and well seasoned, with fries. Had a couple creative cocktails, which were light and refreshing. Service was great too! Sometimes when I'm museum hopping, I'm wary of their restaurants, and often go to an external spot. Here, definitely do yourself a favor and eat in house. Not only convenient for your day out, but tasty and creative! read more

I think it's impossible to write a review that actually does justice to the meal I ate at Thirty Nine. After perusing the museum (which you definitely, definitely should), I sat down to a late lunch not quite knowing what to expect from the indigenous cuisine-filled menu. Our server was friendly and helpful, encouraging us to take our time and giving us pointers when needed. The space is relaxing and beautiful. My friend and I chose the white bean hummus appetizer, the Three Sisters Saute, and the lavender creme brulee for our shared meal. The white bean hummus is beyond description. I could have sat with this and devoured it on my own. The hummus is smooth and full of flavor, and the fry bread... Just wow. Please try this dish. We had to get the rest packed up to go because the portion is massive! The Three Sisters Saute, full of grains and veggies, was refreshing, light yet satisfying. The portion was also large enough for the two of us to share. The lavender creme brulee was perfect -- Also huge! Tasty, with candied pecans on top for an extra touch. This was one of the best meals I can remember having in a long time. I am most sad that I don't live nearby but it just means I need to return to OKC to enjoy a meal at Thirty Nine again. read more

I'm long overdue in reviewing, but better late than never! I had the pleasure of enjoying an amazing meal at Thirty Nine in June of 2022 while visiting The FAM Museum before my flight home from Oklahoma. The menu is comprised of Indigenous ingredients and the restaurant is named for the 39 tribes in the state. There wasn't a single item on the menu that didn't appeal to me, but as I noticed they had Crème Brûlée and I had been craving that for a while, I decided the Green Chili Corn Chowder sounded like a delicious, lighter fare that I could enjoy and then also enjoy a dessert. I am very particular about presentation and see that as part of the enjoyment of a meal and Thirty Nine did not disappoint. My server was Melissa and she came by immediately with a lovely glass bottle of chilled water and poured me a glass and took my order. It didn't take long before I had a beautiful cast iron bowl of chowder in front of me with a soft, yet crispy piece of fry bread to dip. It was love at first spoonful of chowder! The ingredients that stood out most to me were the sweet potato, bacon, roasted corn and the crispy fingerling potato with micro-greens on top and it became more delicious with each bite. I wanted to eat it all, but once I started dipping it with the yummy fry bread I felt full before I wanted to. While I was eating the restaurant manager, John, stopped by to check in that I was happy with my meal and we had a lively chat about family history/heritage and why I had flown out there to visit and it was just the most wonderful conversation. Before he went to check in with other tables he asked me if there was anything else they could get me and I told him I had been thinking of trying the crème brûlée, but that it'll have to wait until my next visit to OK/The FAM because that insanely delicious soup had filled me right up. He wished me happy travels and went on his way and I tried my hardest to eat more of the soup (I couldn't take it on the flight home) before I began my tour of the museum. I made eye contact with Melissa and she came over so I could order another drink. When she came back with it, she also set down a sweet surprise; presenting me with a bowl of their crème brûlée, letting me know, "This is on the house!". I couldn't believe it! I got all teary eyed and just... it made my day! I have never enjoyed such a beautiful and delicious crème brûlée. I loved the pecans and the berries on top and it broke my heart a bit that now I had these two fantastic dishes in front of me that I couldn't eat entirely and couldn't take with me. John popped by again real quick to see if I was happy with my dessert, telling me that he couldn't let me leave without trying the brûlée and I told him how special this was to me and how him and his staff had absolutely made my day and this was the icing on the cake of an already amazing trip. When I couldn't force feed myself any further (lol) I requested my check from Melissa. My goodness, this place was trying to turn me into a ugly crying puddle of tears on the floor because when Melissa came back with my check and set it in front of me she let me know that the manager wanted me to completely and fully enjoy my trip and he had comped my meal in its entirety! Y'all got me for life!!! I am so excited for my trip back later this year and to bring my family to enjoy your fantastic restaurant. I'm gonna have to come by to eat at least two times on the next trip because their menu has so many goodies on it I need to try. I wish we had this restaurant where I live so I could enjoy it weekly. Before I left I made sure Melissa was tipped for her awesome service and off I went to explore the museum. My experience of Thirty Nine restaurant was incredible and I will never forget it. Starting with the cocktails, I was blown away with the artistry and phenomenal flavor. We had the corn ribs as the appetizer, and we got so excited we grabbed some before I remembered to take a picture. Delicious! The flavors all come together and create a unique experience. I had the bison burger and upgraded to the garlic and sage truffle fries. It was so worth it. Do yourself a favor and upgrade your fries! The burger was delicious, the flavors complimented each other so well, and I devoured it in no time. My friend got green Chile and corn chowder with fry bread. It was sooooooo good! Get the fry bread, it completes the chowder. This place is a masterpiece. Our waitress, Samantha, was spectacular. read more

Thirty Nine is a culinary experience you don't want to miss. It's located in the First Americans Museum in #okc and is named for the 39 distinctive First American Nations within the state. They specialize in using ingredients that are grown and raised within Oklahoma, such as amaranth, squash, corn and bison. Oh, and I can't forget the most delicious mocktail - Prickerita. I highly recommend! It's bright pink and pretty and tastes soooo yummy! Everything was delicious and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable about each dish. I recommend the Hominy Stew with Fry Bread. It's a hearty and filling meal with rich flavor. The hummus, blueberry pancakes and creme brûlée were all delicious as well. Also, don't miss out on their Valentine's special 3-course meal. We came for a Valentine's dinner, so our experience was a bit different than a normal night, although I am sure both are great. Firstly, it was a very last minute reservation, which I am very gracious they could accommodate due to their also receiving a last minute cancellation from another guest. We were promptly seated and greeted with an adjusted menu for the evening with some very tasty choices to make. We each tried separate 1st and 3rd courses, though we both had the same main entree, which was a Bison dish. The Bison dish was very well prepared and the Crawfish Bisque was fantastic! They absolutely nailed the dinner menu, and the desserts were great to finish it off. The waitress we had seemed new, she didn't pour our water, didn't get my drink order right, and stuck her thumb in my bisque... but she was friendly and seemed to be trying hard all the same so I cannot complain at all. If there is any room for improvement, it would be with the $49.99 wine pairing. This was for 1 person, and came with 1 glass of sauvignon blanc, 1 glass of pinot, and a mini espresso martini. While they were paired well, ordering these separately would have been around half the price depending on what they value their martini at, so I think someone really needs to check their math or maybe offer a more premium selection for the up charge. Overall it was a great night and we will be back to try their normal menu soon! read more

I was very excited to try this restaurant located inside the First Americans Museum. I made reservations, but during the middle of the week around 11, they were that busy and there was no wait to be seated even if no reservation. The food was superb. Such an interesting and vibrant take on indigenous cuisine. My husband had the bison burger and has been dying to go back for another soon. The staff was attentive and friendly. The environment was clean and refreshing with views overlooking the plains. Prices were sensible and fair. Definitely try this place and don't forget to order dessert read more

Oh, Thirty Nine, what happened in the span of a few weeks? Hubby and I returned after a fantastic experience in September, and this visit was the polar opposite... not good. Instead of wonderful service, we were ignored by our slow server. Hubby and I shared the cheese and ground buffalo dip, which was good and cheesy, but lacked buffalo aside from a few pieces. Hubby originally wanted the buffalo brisket, but we were told they were "out" so he ordered the buffalo burger like me. Gone are the wonderful wedge fries and replaced were these sad little mushy shoestring fries. To make it worse, I immediately found a long hair in my fries. We spend the rest of meal trying to get our server's attention, but to no avail. NO ONE came back to check on us and the hair in the fries sat on our table the entire time... which made us lose our appetite quickly. When the server finally returned, to bring us the check, I was able to point out the gross hair in my food. Another lady came back to offer me a free dessert. I kindly declined since I do not want to eat anything else from that kitchen. The extra star on this update is given because the lady comp'd our meal. Thirty Nine, if you are reading this, know that the kitchen made a mistake by replacing the previously wonderful wedge fries with the limp mushy (hair) fries. This experience was disgusting enough that we will not be back. read more

Fine dining inside the First Americans Museum. The menu is an Indigenous style meal that combines traditional foods with a contemporary take. The meals have been created with the help of award-winning Chef Loretta Barrett Oden. The atmosphere has a modern vibe with large windows overlooking the exterior. The bar area is well stocked for all your favorite libations. The food is creative, beautiful and satisfying. The food is the star attraction and it does not disappoint. This is a perfect romantic spot for a date . Reservations are recommended for evenings and weekends but lunch is not as busy. I highly recommend this be on your bucket list of places to eat. read more

The food was pretty good! I really liked the hummus and corn chowder. The vibe seemed a little off. You could tell they were short staffed and you could feel their stress. It was not the best brunch atmosphere. read more

Upon arrival the restaurant did not have enough staff and the one person that was there seemed a little flustered by having to do multiple jobs and not being able to find the iPad with our reservation on it. We had a reservation for 11 am and the restaurant opened a tad bit after that. Nothing remarcable about the inside of the restaurant. The one person that treated us, sat us down, was our waiter, and our bartender (we spotted her earlier pushing stuff around). The coffee selection was limited to black coffee. The kind you would find in a dinner. For a restaurant inside a museum serving brunch we were expecting a couple more options (at least an espresso and q cappuccino ). We went with the recommendation of the corn ribs. Subpar. 2/5. Seemed like to cobs of corn cut in quarters lengthwise. The pink sauce was tasty, but overall, not impressed especially for the price. Enough for more than two people for sure. The chowder was the highlight. I would give it a 4/5. We did the tomato based version. Very tasty, good flavor profiles. Unlike anything I've ever tried before. $4 for a small portion of "bread" c'Mon...... $8 just adding bread for Two. Two thumbs down there. The blue corn pancakes were overhyped 2.5/5. The Benedict was the same; too much hype. 3/5. The potato's looked very good but tasted like old oil. The fruit was .... Well.... Fruit (tasted fresh). The prickly pear cocktail was tasty, maybe a little too sweet. 4/5 (pricey). Overall I would go back for the chowder, get nothin else, and head out. I almost forgot to mention that my friend was spot on when she felt ignored by the waiter. She would ask me if I wanted a drink, but not her. the same thing happened for dessert. This was weird as she was overall nice (I am convinced she was stressed that day... someone must have not shown up for the shift).
