Okay, I finally tried Cheever's after seeing it recommended so many times, and honestly... I get the hype. I went with a friend for lunch, and the whole place had such a cute, cozy vibe. It feels a little upscale but not in a way that makes you feel underdressed if you show up in jeans. The staff was super sweet, and our server made great recommendations. I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was SO good. The portion was huge, and the gravy was chef's kiss. Also, can we talk about the bread for a second? Because I would genuinely go back just for that. I kept telling myself "one more piece" and then suddenly half the basket was gone. The only reason it's getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because the wait for our food felt a little longer than expected. Nothing crazy, but by the time it arrived, we were definitely checking the kitchen door every few minutes lol. Other than that, everything was great. The food was comforting, the atmosphere was nice, and it felt like one of those places that's perfect for catching up with friends or taking your parents when they're in town. I'm so disappointed by how underwhelming this restaurant has become. What was once a charming spot with unique character and consistently great food no longer seems to offer the experience it once did. We brought a business guest here for a meeting, and unfortunately the experience started on a disappointing note. When we ordered drinks, we were told several items listed on the menu were unavailable. While shortages happen, it immediately left the impression that things were not running smoothly. We began with the blue cheese chips, a dish the restaurant has long been known for. To our surprise, they arrived completely cold, as though they had just come out of the refrigerator. Our guest didn't even touch them. I then ordered the halibut, which had previously been one of my favorite entrées. This time, the fish was rubbery and overcooked, and the shrimp risotto was dry with virtually no broth or sauce to bring the dish together. Overall, the entire experience felt lackluster and disappointing. More than anything, I was embarrassed that we had chosen this restaurant to host an important business guest. My brother took me here for my birthday. It's a really nice restaurant and we were able to grab a late lunch around 2:00 thinking it would be empty, and well this place has a reputation so I don't think it's ever truly empty but we didn't have to wait long for a table considering we didn't think to make a reservation. The place is really cute and is kind of hidden off the path from 23rd St. the first thing you see is a giant refrigerator full of wine that looks like it used to be in a florist shop. Lots of exposed brick and a beautiful bar. We got a queso dip appetizer that didn't look appetizing once we mixed it all up, but it was incredible and we both got Chicken Fried Steak. Doing a day trip to OKC and needed a nice place to enjoy lunch where we could bring our dogs. AI sent us to Cheever's and what a lovely choice it was. The patio space in the front was very secluded and lush, we had it entirely to ourselves. Our waitress was absolutely amazing. They even brought out a water bowl with ice for our pups. We loved our drinks. My espresso martini was boozy and not too sweet with a love whipped topping on top. Her Road to Hana was very refreshing and the pineapple tajin garnish hit the spot. Quick shout out to the dinner rolls and butter. I was starving so this held me over while our shareables came out. The Spicy Caesar was nice, loved the hit of heat that came with it. The Chicken Pepperjack Strudel, a signature dish, was really really good. Just wish it was warmer in the center but yea definitely order this. Juan's queso is not a typical queso dish. First, it's real cheese and it comes with a black bean puree, salsa verde, and avocado thinly sliced on top. We loved it, especially my wife. This dinner was a surprise for my wife -- a true date night (though I don't usually call it that). We go out often, but this evening was special: my early retirement celebration. I made reservations, though arriving early meant they probably weren't necessary. I had been here once before just for dessert, so this time I took my wife and we went all in. Our server, Luisa, was outstanding -- warm, funny, and incredibly helpful. My wife isn't much of a drinker, but Luisa recommended a cocktail she ended up loving! I stuck with my go-to: gin and grapefruit juice. For starters, I couldn't decide between appetizers, so my wife went with a cup of soup while I ordered the chopped salad. The soup -- a rich beef stew-style creation -- was hearty and flavorful, while my salad hit all the right notes thanks to the blue cheese crumbles and the lemon vinaigrette. When it came to entrées, I was torn between the Filet and the Halibut. My wife went with the Filet, served with mashed potatoes and green beans, while I chose the Tortilla-Crusted Halibut with spicy shrimp risotto. Both dishes were excellent, but I have to admit -- that Filet may be one of the best I've ever tasted. Slight food envy, but no regrets -- I'll just order the Filet next time! Dessert was a must. I'd had it before and couldn't leave without it. The Ice Cream Ball is pure magic -- a large scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in candied pecans, covered in chocolate, and topped with a fresh strawberry. Absolutely shareable and absolutely incredible. I also grabbed a slice of Coconut Cream Pie to take home (and I couldn't wait to dig in!). I went to Cheever's last week and I was so excited because I had heard so many good things. The restaurant had such a cute vibe and it was nice and quiet when we went during brunch. Our server was so kind and fun and helpful by offering us recommendations. I tried the chicken and pepperjack strudel which I didn't love the taste of. The flavors didn't feel like they went together for me and it was kind of a confusion taste. I also ordered the Italian sausage rigatoni which they made for me even though it wasn't on the brunch menu which was so kind of them. That was overall much better but a bit oily and heavy. The did give us bread for the table which was great! I think I'll be back and will try some other items on the menu because everyone talks about how amazing their food is. Since everyone has commented on Cheevers brunch (which I have yet to enjoy), I wanted to share our great dinner experience! I came here with a large group of about 8 of us with a reservation made early on. We were seated in a nice, private room and had an overall very lovely experience! First of all, our server Trey was just spot on with all of his recommendations. He recommended the crab cakes, the halibut, and anything that came with the spicy shrimp risotto. Our table got crab cakes to start, and this was probably my favorite dish of the evening! The crab cake was large, fluffy, and full of lump crab topped with a spicy and delicious salsa verde and pico. For the entree I ordered the halibut which was cooked well, but the side of spicy shrimp risotto definitely stole the show (as Trey accurately predicted). Most of our party ordered this and everyone was pretty happy with it! For dessert, our table shared chocolate cake and the coconut creme pie. The chocolate cake was very rich and was probably one of the best chocolate cakes I've had, and I'm not a big chocolate cake person. I still definitely preferred the coconut creme pie, which I would order again next time! I loved our dinner. The food was incredible! The service was good. The Preservation drink was the best ever. The Almost Famous was beautiful but a little bit on the sour side. The dessert drink similar to a White Russian but with cinnamon (I forget the name) was very tasty. The bread is delicious. It's the smoked salt they sprinkle on the butter that makes it extra special. The Bleu cheese potato chips were out of this world! The bacon is high quality. We got a full order and of course we couldn't finish it. I enjoyed them the next day after I heated the leftovers up in an air fryer (worked great). The chicken fried steak looked wonderful and my husband really liked it. The salmon was perfection. The polenta was yummy. The greens were flavorful. The sauce really pulled it together. I'd eat this again anytime. The crispness of the salmon = magic. I can't recommend this highly enough. We split a spicy Caesar salad. It was ok. Wish we had gotten a different salad. Very classy but not pretentious. Staff are quick to bring you what you request. We went for a light snack before dinner. We elected for pork stew (cup) and warm banana bread with cold butter that sits and melts after they bring it to you. My only complaint is the mocktail was very pretty but way too much ginger making it not drinkable. But if I was back in the area I would definitely visit again. Absolutely awful experience for my birthday. Tables too close together, one even set up blocking the restroom entrance. The food was not presented well. The chicken dish I had was not memorable, and the side was putrid. My husband made the reservation online and joined their loyalty club which said we get a $5 credit on our first visit and a free desert for my birthday. When he mentioned this to the waitperson, she was clueless. We asked to see the manager - she was also clueless. Intimated that we were liars. Parking lot was small, but there was plenty of street parking around the building. They do take reservations so I would recommend making one just in case they get busy. If you're looking for an interesting twist to halibut this dish is for you. I ordered a small cup of the Cheever's Chicken Tortilla Soup because it's perfection in a cup. You can order similar soups elsewhere but they are just not the same. For my entree I chose the Italian Sausage Rigatoni. Unfortunately it was a miss on this night. It's not a dish I typically choose and it isn't among my favorites but I was looking for something different. I've had it previously but it didn't taste the same tonight. Don't take this as a negative judgement because I've truly never had a bad meal. The dish was fine, but something was missing. Ordinarily we order the ice cream dessert but it was just too big for the two of us to handle. If you have a big appetite you'll be fine. We usually share it among four people. Cheever's is a local gem and must-try spot. It's been here for years and I haven't seen any drop in quality. Let's get the big obvious thing out of the way first. They serve what is probably the best chicken fried steak in Oklahoma. In fact, it was probably about 7 years before I ever tried anything else. That being said, I've not been disappointed by anything else but I'd still suggest that u go with the chicken fried steak if it's your first visit. Also, the chefs specials never let me down. On the last visit, we were told about the Al pastor tacos and dad ordered them before I could. I found relief in how delicious the soup of the day was. Cheever's is probably in my top 5 OKC restaurants and though there is often a crowd, the food is always worth the brief wait. The drinks and cocktails and good and reasonably priced and the dinner menus may be seen as a tad high but well worth the scratch-made freshness and high quality ingredients. The decor was also very tasteful and fun to observe. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. We were given frequent check-ins and refills. No detail was forgotten! About once a year i visit this establishment, i was soo incredibly disappointed this time. I ordered the filet, while i thought it was correctly cooked, it was not, it was undercooked. That I did not mind, but the mashed potatoes ware Luke warm at best and I asked for the green beans to be subbed with the brussel sprouts which were also undercooked. I did not have the luxury of time to let the staff know. But I expected better for a 60+ tab. Staff was also inattentive, it was not busy when we arrived and ordered. We went all out with three main dishes and the very rich Bleu Cheese Potato Chips for a starter (get the half order...it's enough!) Yes, we knew we had to try the Chicken Fried Steak and it was good, but the stars were the other two dishes: the Rigatoni and the Seafood Tamale. Both were so inventive and full of flavor that each bite brought something new. I will never go back to Cheevers without ordering the Rigatoni...the combo of lemon ricotta and sun dried tomatoes was just muaaahhhh! And the tamales' masa was just perfect, with the sauce and rice complementing all of the delectable shrimp, scallops, lobster tail and veggies that you could guarantee yourself a different experience in every forkful. Perfect space for date night or a group gathering. Well lit throughout but not intrusive, and the separated table areas brought thoughtful intimacy to our dinner. And don't miss getting that ice cream ball at the end! They knew it was my date's birthday and presented us a signed Happy BDay card out of the blue...what an amazing touch.
