They also add chili oil to a lot of the rolls, making it spicy, which is so bizarre to me. Jaws was soggy & tasted like ground beef. I was so excited for the sexy girl roll because I love mango rolls, but you could barely taste the mango & it was sour ?? the sourness wasn't even from the mango. This was the first time we ordered from 39 Degrees. The rolls were just as described: fresh, delicious and plenty for the price. We ordered three different rolls to have some variety. All were wrapped in rice paper since I'm allergic to seaweed. We ordered: - Crunchy - Atlantic - ShroomShroom The taste of all three was excellent. None were soggy and you were able to distinguish what they were supposed to be. We also liked that someone actually cared about preparing them by putting partitions between each roll so to not mix flavors. Really loved that. Unfortunately, the sauces all tasted the same - eel sauce. Even though the description mentioned that some were supposed to be different. But it didn't really matter much. The reason for 4/5 stars Parking.... Or the lack thereof. It's a huge issue. There is almost none. We picked up around 4:30pm and it was impossible to find anything. After hearing about 39 Degrees from a coworker, I had to try it. We were pleasantly surprised! It's located kinda awkwardly on the corner of Redondo Ave and 7th St, and you could easily drive right past. My mom isn't into sushi, and after convincing her to try this place, she still didn't have any! Instead, she tried the chicken teriyaki and LOVED it. We arrived just in time for Happy Hour, but a lot of the rolls on their HH menu are tempura and have sauces. Due to my dietary needs, I just stuck to my usuals that I know are safe. I tried a couple different hand rolls, and the veggie roll, and all were delicious and fresh. The service was great, the restaurant was nice and clean, and by 6pm they were on a wait. Really good sushi spot in Long Beach. I had the Sumo Roll and the Nine One One Roll with spicy mayo rather than Habanero mayo. I preferred the Sumo to the Nine One One, but they were both very good. My husband had the chicken teriyaki entree with an egg roll. He enjoyed his meal. The inside has a good amount of seating, but I'm sure there would be a wait during the evening hours because it's not a huge place. As a note, there is a private parking lot, but it is shared with a few other businesses. When we arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday, there was only 1 spot available. When we left there were multiple cars waiting for parking spots. I can't imagine what a hassle it would be to find a spot later in the evening or on weekends. A solid spot that offers a variety of different kinds of sushi. We ordered the Pocket monsters, Naruto set with spicy tuna cut roll and shrimp tempura hand roll, and the lobster dynamite. First off the pocket monsters is an appetizer that is snow crab, shrimp, and cream cheese wrapped in soy paper and deep fried. This was definitely a tasty dish. You taste the cream cheese with the shellfishes really well. A lot of places markets this as cream cheese wontons, but pocket monsters is a nice and unique name. My main dish was the Naruto set which include hand roll, cut roll, and 3 sushi pieces (salmon, tuna, and albacore). This is a nice variety set that's sure to satisfy people that want to try different things. It was also pretty tasty and delicious. Definitely a filling set. Lastly the lobster dynamite. First time having sushi at this spot and it definitely hits the spots. The albacore on the beach was delicious and went well with the American dragon roll. The chicken satay was tender and went well with the peanut sauce that is came with. I definitely would recommend the tsunami roll if you like that raw fish topping on your roll. I did a to go order but as I walked in I was greeted by the staff. Noise level is average, parking can be hard because they do share a lot with wing stop, Starbucks, and a bar. The only thing I'd recommend is either get the Soju straight up or a plum wine. The $12 pineapple cocktail was disappointing- tasted like juice (really good), but lots of ice and gone in minutes. I think they loaded with juice and not Soju - & for $12 bucks that was a Miss. Other than that, the hostess checked on us frequently and was very sweet and accommodating.
