Great food, good service. The place is busy every time we visit, but we have never waited long for a table. Homemade soups, very nice chicken parm, and an old fashioned fried seafood platter were our choices for the most recent stop. All very good and at reasonable prices. Be warned that this is an old building and it is not accessibility-friendly -- there are multiple steps to get in, the aisle is tight and I very much doubt that a wheelchair could get into the restrooms. All tables are booths, although there are some bar stools at the counter. No easy place for a wheelchair anywhere. read more

Went in on Labor Day for breakfast while tooling around. The restaurant was BUSY! Sat at the counter to leave space for larger parties. The counterman was great, got my coffee right away, and had good conversation. The waitress brought my meal out pretty quickly, and everything was cooked just how I like it. The coffee was hot, fresh, and just the right strength, making it a comforting drink. Not sure how I hadn't been here before, but I'll definitely be back. read more

This place is an iconic place in Fredericksburg and I have lived here my whole life but this is the first time I have tried it. I called in an order to pick up and I ordered two steak and cheese subs with two orders of fries. I tried to order pumpkin pancakes but they said they only serve them every other weekend, which is odd but that is what they do. The inside is small but has the feel of a historical place here in Fredericksburg. The staff was friendly and knew what I was coming in to pick up.The steak and cheese is tasty. I visited 2400 Diner as a part of a group of 4. We seated ourselves and pulled a couple of menus off the front counter to assist the single waitress covering all the tables. Despite being busy, she was cheerful, served with a smile and had a polite attitude as she bounced from table to table. The diner itself is small and there are steps to access it, something you need to be aware of if you have mobility challenges. Additionally, the narrow isles inside make it difficult to navigate a wheelchair, especially when trying to go to the restroom. Although a small diner, it was clean, well maintained and there was a steady stream of customers coming and going, speaking to its popularity. My meal started off with their homemade strawberry milkshake and the homemade soup of the day (clam chowder,) The soup was very good. The milkshake was just ok and left something to be desired. The milkshake was almost liquefied and although I was told it had real strawberries in it, I could not find them. It just didn't have that homemade taste. My main entrée was the seafood combination platter. If you come hungry, that is the meal that you want to order. It came with a crab cake, some fish, some scallops, some clams, and shrimp. On top of that you get your choice of soup or salad and you also get to order an additional vegetable along with getting either mashed potatoes or baked potato Or french fries. To top it all off this meal will cost you under 20 bucks. The meal was good for the price but tasted a bit out of the box for me. I did enjoy the fish, clams and potato that were in the meal but the remaining items "for me" were on par with the price but not that great. read more

Absolutely phenomenal establishment with amazing service, food and old school vibe. We were sat immediately, and when our breakfast was brought out, she brought all the condiments we needed. I grew up eating at the 2400 Diner. It was always my mom's go to for a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Not only is the family feel and nostalgia amazing... but the food is full of comfort. I ordered the grilled cheese today. Yes a grilled cheese! But to be honest I'm very particular about my grilled cheese sandwhiches and it's my FAVORITE. I've carried on the tradition and this is now my son's favorite as well. My Mom ordered the scrapple with 2 eggs and the breakfast special which was the apple and caramel french toast. The french toast was pretty soggy from the caramel sauce but it still had great flavor. Dined at 2400 Diner on Princess Anne Street, for the first time today. Place is small, but clean and cozy. Parking is limited. There was about a 40 minute wait for seating. I ordered the short stack of pancakes and a coffee. My husband ordered a Western omelet and added sausage, bacon, ham, cheddar cheese and an extra egg to his omelet. He got home fries and toast with strawberry jam on the side, along with a coffee. Food was delicious and fresh! The pancakes were huge; we shared with each other and I was a big fan of his omelet especially! The service was top notch. We will most definitely return. This is a Fredericksburg gem. read more

We've dined here under a dozen times. Our servers have always been excellent, except for the older lady with white/blonde hair. We went there today at approx. 1:30 pm. and were greeted by a shorter lady who told us to sit wherever we wanted. We sat in the first booth closest to the door. Once we sat down, we were told that we would have to wait for our server to return from a break. Why in the world would you tell someone to sit wherever they want and it not be a manned area? We waited a bit and our server arrived - unattentive and hurriedly. No greeting, no name, just rushed us. As this is happening, it was apparent that people she knew came in and she directed her attention to them. She put our order in and tended to her "Friends". Later, we see our orders ready for pick up. The back kitchen had to incessently ring the bell for her to get our orders, but still to no avail. After hearing that bell numerous times again, our order arrived to our table, again no warm fuzzy feelings at all. I ordered the Hot Platter - Roast Beef & Potatoes, my guest ordered the cheeseburger with a side of fries (which are an additional fee). My meal looked and tasted like hospital cafeteria food and was only warm. (I ate only a few bites and left nearly a full plate untouched). My friends burger was horrible and the fries were hard and cold. We tried to keep our composure and not complain. Still this waitress never came to check on us, ask if we needed anything, nothing. When we left we mentioned the awkwardness of the whole visit to the short lady who rang us up. After being home for a couple hours, I decided to call 2400 Diner and asked to speak with whom I thought was one of the owners, a Greek lady, since we'd had numerous fantastic converstations and visits before. Whomever answered the phone refused to let me speak with her and hung up. I called again, I could tell by the voice it was the short lady who told me they were too busy and I'd have to call back. Seriously, I thought I had found my "hole in the wall" go-to place. Never again. It was like we didn't even exist today. Needless to say, we are very generous tippers, but nothing for them today. I was in the downtown Fredericksburg area around lunch time on a Friday and decided to give 2400 Diner a try, since I've driven by it hundreds and hundreds of times over the years, but never gave a thought to stopping here. Upon pulling into the lot, there was one space left... Upon entering the diner, they were packed! I think I read in other reviews that they are very small and pack up quick - Well, that's true! But since I was solo, I was able to score a seat at the counter. Service was very friendly and it's very obvious that this place has a very loyal, regular crowd, because nearly everyone that was finishing and leaving were addressing the wait staff by name, saying their goodbyes and the staff replied in same. As for the menu - typical diner fare, even with some of the Greek and Italian specialties tossed in. I opted for something from the hot sandwich section of the menu and asked my server what she likes and fortunately for me, she said she loves their corned beef (I say "fortunately" because I was tossing between a Ruben and a Corned Beef & Onion with Mustard on Rye), she went on to tell me her favorite sandwich was the Corned Beef, Mustard & Onion on Rye, so I opted for it, with a side of onion rings. But first, I had to ask what kind of o-rings they had and when she said "beer battered" I was all in!! I should note that I started with coffee, which was excellent! I also took notice that the water glass (the typical older style plastic cup style glasses) was extremely clean. I looked around and took notice that the entire joint was spotless! I'm a stickler for attention to detail, so I looked in corners, at the tops of things up high (like décor that's been hanging so long, there are now cobwebs and dust bunnies hanging from them) and there were ABSOLUTELY NO DUST BUNNIES, COBWEBS or dirt anywhere! This place is spotless, which made me feel great! I also went to the restroom while there and it was very clean too. I also noticed the great job the waitresses did cleaning tables in between guests, as well as taking care of each other's guests on refills. When my food arrived, it looked great and I was ready to dig in! The pickle was typical, it was good. The sandwich was awesome! Having never had this particular sandwich, I made the assumption that the onions would be fried or sautéed, but they weren't, they were raw. Fortunately they were mild, so I was able to enjoy them on the sandwich, but next time I'll ask for them to be fried up on the flattop. The corned beef was excellent! Moist, flavorful and tender! The warm, toasted and buttered rye bread was excellent too! And the onion rings were great, exactly what I prefer in the way of onion rings! Overall, I really enjoyed this visit and don't know why I took this long to come here, but I'll be back, soon! read more

It's been awhile since I had this delicious treat, and I was lucky enough to find this in this diner. This is a banana cream pie . Sweet, creamy , and just full of banana flavor. The ratio of the banana cream, banana and cream, was spot on. This wil for sure will give you food coma, because you will just have to keep eating it. I would for sure go back to try more of their desserts, because who doesn't love sweets am I right? I truly love this diner. Small, limited parking, you wait for a table or sit at the counter and the staff appears to have been there for a long time. Been numerous times since moving to Fredericksburg in August. Usually I get there before 1pm and I always get breakfast. Perfectly cooked bacon that's crumbly and the eggs are the precise over medium. Coffee is good and plentiful. Pancakes are almost larger than the plate but the syrup was lacking so I may start bringing in my own. Lots of daily specials but you have to look for them when you walk in as they aren't usually verbally mentioned. Very clean and usually always busy when I come in. read more

I have lived off and on in this area for more than 30 years, and I have never eaten in this diner despite many recommendations to do so. So. . . on the morning of my 60th birthday, my wife and daughter and I decided to have breakfast here. There are Greek themes in the decor that may be as old as the Parthenon; and spring in the booth bench threatened to impale me, but in the end it comes down to the food and service. And the food and service was great. I enjoyed the ambiance, a crowded diner with very little room to maneuver, and yet it felt cozy, private and comfortable.
