My son and I decided to try this local diner before Brody's first game. The parking lot was tight with regulars grabbing breakfast in groups gabbing about life. We were the youngest patron by 10 years and there were only men besides the waitress who was hustling keeping up with the front of the house. Brody ordered an omelette with sausage and oatmeal. I got the breakfast platter; 2 eggs, home fries and sausage. We both enjoyed the meal in the hospital . Nothing fancy just a simple diner with good food. read more

Went here for the first time after passing it on the road for two years. While we expected a humble, nondescript interior, everything, including the bar, was beat to hell. I probably have a leather shoe in my closet that tastes better than the hamburger - dry, tough and flavorless. Hot dogs were marginal at best and they were out of chili. Service was indeed very friendly and I didn't think it was slow as others said. Still just not our cup of tea. read more

Small diner on the side of the road filled with locals on an early Saturday morning (they open at 6AM). Homey, humble, and welcoming with great service. Locals' conversations is what fills the atmosphere, as there's no music or TVs playing. Just good, old style chatting. The menu is pretty large. Lots of breakfast and lunch options. I had one pancake with eggs and bacon. The pancake is plate-size, so I only ate half of it. Overall, the food is nothing outstanding but it hits the spot if you're just looking for a basic breakfast. I'd support this local business again. read more

Came here a few weeks ago for breakfast and felt like I needed to leave a review. I've been coming here for years with my dad - literally as long as I can remember. This is the type of place where they remember your name and story. You feel like a part of the family. 11/10 hospitable service. It's a comfortable environment with great home cooked food. I've only ever had their breakfast food and it is delicious every single time. Please stop by and support this local diner! read more

Stuck in time, do not let the outside nor inside steer you away. If you're looking for a good breakfast, at fair prices, with an honest and non over attentive customer service approach, why aren't you already here? RESTAURANT/AMBIANCE: This place has been here for a very long time, and if all the seniors still come here, there's a reason. I came here 5 years ago, and just the other day - same experience, same great tasting food. Seat yourself, and wait for your server to be right up with menus. FOOD/DRINK: I got the veggie omelette, with an endless cup of black coffee from the pot. It was kept topped up the whole time, and I appreciate that! Best bang for your buck on food? Get the bowl! It's layered and fully loaded! OVERALL: Now that I'm up in the area for a good stint, I'll for sure be back in here more often. A local legend, and I totally get why. A solid 4/5. read more

I can't believe Yelp's positive reviews sent me to this place. Yuck. Probably nice 50 years ago. We thought we were eating in a nursing home. Food was not hot or tasty. Portions small. Pancakes not cooked through. Lucky for them I was hungry. Seats of our booth looked like someone was murdered on them. Gross. They serve sodas in a can - no fountain and no refills. Waitresses were nice, so they get the one Star. read more

Great little place for breakfast. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and told we could sit anywhere. It's not a very big place but has an ample amount of seating. We found a table and the waitress immediately came over and took our drink order. The menu has a good selection and the prices are very reasonable. The portions are generous and the food was really good. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. I would definitely stop back in for another visit. read more

We wanted to try some place new for us but 'local'...we found it at Lafayette Diner! I had the Two egg platter with crispy bacon and a biscuit and grits and Wifey had Two egg platter with crispy bacon and home fries. The food was excellent and arrived very quickly! I made a sandwich with the biscuit and didn't leave a scrap of other food on my plate. The home fries were a little underdone for my taste, but the flavor was off the chart. Coffee was ok. Apparently, this place is big on 'salt fish' which looked delicious, but I wasn't trying it for breakfast. Our waitress (Kelcie) was SOOOOO friendly and a really good waitress. The place got really busy as we were finishing and she didn't flinch a bit. This is a local joint where the waitress knew most of the people who came in. Great food, great service, great prices. read more

The breakfast bowl was 10/10. Best diner food I've had. Will not disappoint. Great spot on the side of the road.

I called ahead to verify it would not be a long wait. Kelsey was so friendly and told me to come right on in. When I arrived she provided the best customer service. Kelsey was so attentive to our needs. I selected the salt fish, grits, fresh tomatoes and cornbread. My friend had a huge pancake the size of the plate, fresh eggs, and bacon fried to perfection. I like to support the local restaurants whenever I can so I decided to give this place a try. I've always drove by and wondered if it was worth checking out. Upon entering we were told to seat ourselves. The place was small and quaint, mostly occupied by older customers. The Interior is dated, but that's to be expected of an older locals diner. The menu had a variety of items to choose from at a reasonable price. I ordered the breakfast bowl which was loaded with meats, eggs and potatoes, smothered in a sausage gravy topped with cheese. It was super filling. My friend ordered the eggs and ham. I felt the ham was entirely too salty, but he didn't seem to mind. read more

SLOW SERVICE Food is good, waitstaff warm and friendly, we were seated immediately. However food prep and wait time is very very slow due to a very small kitchen. Do not visit if you are in a hurry, this is not typical a "fast diner" at all. Visit only if you have lots of time to sit, chat and sip coffee while you wait for your food. read more

Stopped on the way through driving to CT from NC. Sure are sorry we don't live closer. Due to traffic on 95, we got there just before 2 pm. We were welcomed and given great service even though they were fixing to close. Hubby had the meatloaf dinner and said it was as good as his mom's (although no catsup -- but the homemade gravy sure made up for it .) My hot turkey sandwich was just the comfort food I was looking for. read more

Small town feel and really good, standard diner food. When I say simple, I mean it. I love that their menus are well-seasoned paper packets with prices that you'll think are way too low. Service is always on point, very nice and have that southern hospitality feel. Tip: seat yourself! When we came the first time on a busy Saturday we stood in the doorway like dummies. They said to find any open table and if there's leftover dishes it's still OK to sit if nothing else is open--they'll clear it when they can. Also, home fries are so good. Not just potatoes in a skillet. Super flavorful! read more

Years ago I visited this place when it was called Grandma's Getaway and remember it as a quaint local diner with regulars who just wanted a home cooked meal. The change in owners hasn't taken away from that environment. The menu is reminiscent of what my grandparents would have cooked throughout the week, fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, burgers and more. The salted fish is outstanding. The tea is sweet and the service is personable. The price is pretty good since the portions are huge. It's nice to saddle up to the bar, order some food and carry on a conversation about the day with the friendly folks who work there. if you're looking for food that you can't make at home, this may not be your kind of place, but if you're looking for a good place to see some local people, get a good home cooked meal at a reasonable price and chat a bit then this is it. read more

I went there for breakfast on the 7th of March, 2024 and asked for two eggs over easy, bacon, and some of their home fries and grits. I have to say, never in my 68 years on this planet has anyone been successful in screwing up two eggs over easy but they managed to do it at the Lafayette Diner. Those eggs were not even cooked, they were RAW! In fact, I am not certain how the cook even got the eggs from the grille to the plate. Over 20 years in the Marine Corps, over 11 engagements on three different continents, I once saw two monkeys trying to screw a football but I have never seen raw eggs on a plate; not until the Lafayette Diner. I bet they never got that egg up to the 50 degrees. AND! The short round young lady that served me, and the middle aged large frumpy large lady that seemed to be in charge-neither of them seemed to have a problem with me having raw eggs served to me; but-they sure were eager to take my money and, what? You not going to leave a tip? I will never darken their threshold again! I rate this place (only because they asked me to in this communique) zero stars out of five but they will not go that far down with the star rating. read more

This is a very overlooked place to eat. I have passed it I don't know how many times and never thought twice about it. We finally decided to give it a chance for breakfast. My test is coffee. If the coffee is great chances are the food is great as well. The place is super clean, no greasy tables, no food on the floor, menus clean. The waitress was super friendly and on her game. I had the bacon and cheese muffin which was so homemade and not greasy. My guy had a big omelet and home fries and from the looks of his plate when he was done....it was fantastic. The waitress, being the only one taking orders was attentive to everyone. You have to stop by, you will not be disappointed. We look forward to going again. read more
