Amy's Cafe was a surprising delight, but not for the reason I would have expected. At first glance, Amy's is a tucked away historic building just off of River Rd. and the Rappahanock River. As you walk up, you see the cute outdoor seating area with a pergola and string lights. As you walk in, you see a cute, but dated restaurant decorated for Halloween. The staff have clearly enjoyed their opportunity to decorate and add a touch of fun. Now to the delight - the service. Amy's shining star is the staff. You come for the meal, but get a personalized experience...not just from your primary server, but from every person who comes in contact with you. The culture in this place is wonderful and you feel like family. We were cracking jokes the entire time and it wasn't just my table, I observed this throughout the restaurant. I was taken care of from the minute I came in to the minute I left. Lastly, the food was good. I had the French toast which was flavorful and the perfect ratio not being too soggy or too bready. I had scrambled eggs on the side, perfectly cooked. Not slimy but not hard. My husband had pancakes and over medium eggs - again cooked to perfection. Was this the best breakfast I've had in my life? no, but it was very good and what I would come back for to get a dependably semi-home cooked style breakfast. We will be returning! read more

This restaurant is in a historic building and has old photos and artwork inside. The wait staff was very friendly. The wraps are large and easily enough for 2 sittings. The potato chips are made in house and are a mix of crunchy and chewy, they're cut thicker and puff up a bit when cooked. Simple food with amazing flavor! The grilled catfish was light and flavorful and the accompanying onion rings were light and not greasy at all! My final side was the garlic mashed potatoes with gravy (don't judge me!) and they were light, flavorful and the gravy was really good! Went on a Thursday bike night, the first one there that I'm aware of. The wait staff seated me immediately, and asked for my drink order. They have some craft beers on tall, which are amazing. It didn't take very long for me to make my choice- I had to have the meatloaf. The server took my order, and the meal was in front of me faster than I could think about it. The meatloaf was TO DIE FOR. One of the best restaurant meatloaf meals I've ever had. First of all, it had no peppers. I don't like peppers in my meatloaf. The meat was seasoned just right and cooked to perfection. The gravy had a perfect consistency and wasn't over salty. The broccoli was crisp, yet hot and flavorful. For dessert, I had a limoncello cake/pie that was quite tasty without being overpowering. Service was excellent and always love the friendliness of the staff here. We came for lunch because I was having a chicken career wrap craving and was not disappointed. I also ordered the soup special, "Jacked up chicken soup." It was easily the best bowl of soup I've had this year. My gf ordered the pulled pork bbq sandwich and this is where they lost a star. Amy's Cafe for dinner the other night. We started with their fried green tomatoes, which we've ordered numerous times before. Without a doubt, they make the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had! And the other night, they were perfect! My husband knows when I'm enjoying, because I'm so animated with my 'food moans' of pleasure . They're really so delightful! We ordered the Club on wheat (lightly toasted), with cheddar (instead of Swiss), along with fries as our entree (to split), (which is our typical go to). Then we also tried a cup of their cream of crab soup with cornbread, which was the special. I didn't care for the soup, but my husband enjoyed it. I really liked the cornbread though! The crab dip appetizer special was to die for! Did not realize this gem was tucked away back where it was, quiet location, but the word's out - plenty of folks when we walked in. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Tuesday, without realizing they closed at 8pm (sorry!) service was super quick, food tasted excellent, nothing to complain about. My husband and I pass this cafe all the time ( we're locals) and last night we decided to try it since it was last day of the year, to celebrate. Is a very , very , very casual place, our table was next to the fireplace, that was nice ,but my visual was a toilet we ask the young waitress to please close the door of the bathroom, I think is that when she starting to "BANG" everything that she brought to our table We really like the food, but very minimal portions not a lot of choices of entrees either , if you going to drink a cocktail try to order early , because we wait more than 25 minutes for them . This is restaurant is on west Cambridge street in Falmouth VA right beside colonial town of Fredericksburg. Right on the Rappahannock River. The building it is in is a historical building. This is the first time we have been here. We ordered a steak and cheese with fries, steak tacos and Alfredo. Came to Amy's cafe today, because my first experience eating here was great! This second time around was not as good. The food was good, but kind of just felt like we were being served because we had to. I was told that they had no toppings to put on my pancakes, but later on I saw strawberries and whipped cream on other folks' plates. We had to get up and go to the hostess stand to ask for refills on our coffee after waiting for a refill for about 30 mins (we weren't even served water). We also had to get up after another 30 mins to ask the hostess for our check. The ambiance is nice, it's a cute spot, very charming. I will say though, they could get rid of the annoying bell at the entrance door. Very unfortunate experience, because this place has a lot of potential. Note: The restaurant was only at about half capacity, so not sure I can say the service was bad because they were understaffed. read more

They're located in historic Fredericksburg, near the river. Tried Amy's cafe today for the first and last time. Food was just ok. I ordered a cobb. The server told me they were out of avocados (how do you run out of avocados?!!!). My other half had the french dip. It wasn't bad but not memorable amd my salad green were warm. My wife and I are moving south to Fredericksburg, VA and after an appointment at our soon-to-be new house, we decided to find a place for lunch. We stopped in to Amy's Cafe on W. Cambridge St. What a little jewel we found. Outside the restaurant's front door is a good sized outdoor dining space. This Thursday afternoon we entered and were shown to a table. Though Amy's has a nice selection of beers and ciders, we started with Iced Tea and a soda. As a starter we had the Stupid Good Shrimp. It was very tasty, with about 10 shrimp. It was a bit hot-spicy though. For our lunch, my wife had the Reuben Egg Rolls, which she loved. If you're a fan of corned beef, you've got to try these. The cole slaw was ok but a little bland. I had the daily lunch special Chicken Steak and Cheese. It was very good. I know I enjoyed it because as I was putting the last morsel in my mouth, I was a little bit sad because it was going to be over soon. We very much loved our lunch, and since Amy's is 5 minutes from our new house, we will be visiting Amy's regularly. read more

The wife and I went there about a month ago and sat outside, which was a big mistake. The restaurant is situated right on the road and right under a bridge and all you could hear is the traffic above you and going by along with vehicle fumes. As far as the food was when I go out to a restaurant I'd like to get something that you know I don't usually cook at home. That's not the case here I can make a better meal than what I was served.! as far as the service it was pretty good didn't have to wait too long for a drink order or our meal. read more

Charming setting in a very old building. I imagine the walls could tell many great stories! We went for breakfast this morning. Service was great. Our server Jessica was warm and welcoming. She was very quick to take our drink orders and returned them to our table promptly. Coffee was hot and delicious. We were given the perfect amount of time to review the menu before she returned to take our order. I had 2 eggs, over medium with sausage and 2 pancakes. My husband had 2 eggs, grits, sausage and toast. Our eggs were perfect over mediums and arrived hot. The pancakes were large, golden brown and delicious. They were light and flavorful. The syrup came in a plastic container. I wish it had been warm. The sausage was links and ordinary. That said, it was good. Grits were also ordinary but certainly not instant.
