The restaurant has a rustic atmosphere with exposed brick and wood. There is not much room inside if you are waiting to be seated and they will maintain a waitlist for seats at the bar. I do like that the people working the host stand will take a drink order and a server will bring your drinks while you are waiting and that will be added to your table bill so no need to worry about paying separately for the drinks. The food is very good but most entrees are a-la-carte. Prices are high but not outrageous for quality steak cuts. The wine list is extensive but most of the bottle prices are very high. Both were delicious. The soup was excellent, and the mashed potatoes were clearly homemade, which was a nice touch. My only disappointment was that the steak was heavily charred--almost blackened. I was also surprised that the entrée was not accompanied by a vegetable. Despite those minor shortcomings, the meal was delicious, and Trevor provided excellent service throughout the evening. In fact, I suspect that because of the overly charred steak, the restaurant generously comped my coffee, which was a very thoughtful gesture. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and Trevor's knowledge and attentiveness contributed significantly to my positive experience.

Disappointing Experience…read more A group of friends and I recently visited Rivers and Speakeasy because I was considering renting the venue for a private party. After experiencing the service firsthand, I'm very glad I checked it out before making any plans. The waitress was nice, but the service was extremely slow. From the moment we arrived, we waited a long time just to be greeted, and then waited even longer to order and receive drinks. When our friends arrived, they experienced the same thing. They waited so long that they eventually went to the bar to try to get drinks, only to be told that they had to order through their server. The problem is, when the server isn't around and you've already been waiting, what are you supposed to do? Unfortunately, the food didn't impress us either. I personally did not find it appetizing, and overall, the experience was not what I expected. I'm actually glad I visited before considering hosting a party there because, based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable renting the venue for an event. If you don't mind waiting a very long time for drinks, food, or basic service, you may have a different experience. But for our group, the service moved at a "molasses" pace, and I would not recommend it based on our visit.

The vibe was right. Cocktails were great--strong enough to matter, smooth enough not to apologize for. The food was excellent across the board, the kind that makes you stop talking for a minute so you can do some serious fork work. Most important, our waiter Shane was dead on the mark: there when you needed him, gone when you didn't, and never once tried to explain the menu like we'd just landed from Ohio for the first time. I can't find a single thing to complain about, which for me is almost a complaint in itself. We started with the bread assortment, which included flatbreads, rolls, dipping sauces, and butter. We also tried the fried artichoke leaves--they were perfectly crisp, tender, and delicious. For my entrée, I had the branzino with crispy skin, and it was cooked to perfection. The combination of lemon, herbs, and capers worked beautifully, and the fish practically melted in your mouth. They just opened and are still working out a few of the inevitable kinks that come with a new restaurant, but when it comes to the food, they absolutely hit the bullseye. I had just come from a hair appointment down the street and on my way back to my car, I noticed Sangria advertised on the mini sandwich board outside. I'm a HUGE fan of a glass of fruity Sangria on a hot day! The fact that it was Happy Hour with $5 glasses made it even easier to draw me inside!! When I explained this was my first visit, they explained the Curio concept, the various areas for sitting, sipping and gathering as well as the Curio Card process. They even had a small but really intriguing menu of various snacks, from charcuterie to flatbread and even dessert. The menu changes a couple times a month, making me want to plan more visits! The staff offered me sips of each so I could decide on a Sangria flavor. Despite not being a Moscato fan, I chose the Moscato Mule Sangria. It was light, refreshing and had the Moscow Mule flavors with the added sweetness of Moscato wine. I wandered into the cellar to explore more wine offerings and wound up running into fellow educators and their friends I had never met. We chatted like we were catching up and laughed about shared birthdays and teaching!! They invited me to hang with them, but I had to get home for Dog Mom Duty. We exchanged numbers so we could plan another "run-in" downtown SOON! If you haven't visited Curio, I HIGHLY recommend it. Bring a friend, or plan on making a few. For entrees, my wife selected the Roasted Beet Poke Bowl which she described as "light and refreshing" and I ordered the 16-oz Marinated Ribeye, cooked to Medium along with sides of mixed Seasonal Vegetables (sliced Zucchini & Squash) and Redskins Mashed potatoes with an order of mushrooms to go on top of the steak. I also ordered a nice glass of Merlot wine to go with it. The portions were generous, and the entrees perfectly prepared, and very tasty. If there was any fault at all, it was that the ribeye was a little too laden with a ring of fat rather than simply marbled, but otherwise no complaints. Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating.
