Wanted to walk the river trail and do dinner before so we picked Brock's since it has a nice view of the river. We sat in the section that was open to the outdoor elements and got a seat right by the wall overlooking the river. Quick to get seated and host was very nice. We had a wonderful waitress. She was friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and it all tasted good. The spinach and crab dip was a bit salty for the pita but the dip was good. We both got a salmon salad and it was a nice large portion that was full of flavor. Would definitely stop back. Might need to get the fried chicken sandwich next time! read more

While in Fredericksburg Brocks seemed like the place to try so had to give it a try! They have a huge indoor seating area as well as a bar but we opted for the outdoor patio on the back porch! We had to wait about 15minutes but it was worth it for the views!! You can see the river flowing perfectly and it really felt amazing on a fall weather day. They had a bunch of high tops to ensure you can see the views perfectly. The service was great and all the staff were very friendly too. They have a very large menu with a ton of options but I opted for the fried chicken sandwich with fries. It was really good, tasted nice and crispy and the fries were cooked to perfection. We arrived at Brock's and only waited minutes before getting our table for six. Service was outstanding! We all had drinks and split two wonderful appetizers. I had the crap stuffed shrimp and it was the best ever. My husband had salmon and said he wanted to lick the plate because it was so good. There was not a single complaint from the whole table. We've been here a few times but it's been for the late night scene. We realized we've been missing out on their dinner service! We sat in Jordy's section and he was phenomenal. The Brussels were delicious. Our only critique is they were large and could be cut smaller for easier consumption. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and loved the addition of the havarti. The Old Town salad is my favorite salad in town - it's filling and fresh. And to top off the meal the sweet potato fries with the sweet aioli. We recently celebrated my birthday and decided to make dinner reservations at Brock's. I was actually surprised that many of my friends have never dined in and tried their food before. It's known more for the bar scene but please don't sleep on their food! Brocks is delicious and they have so many options for guests with dietary restrictions. When we arrived, we were immediately guided to their beautiful dining area with a large table for our reservation of 12. Our server wasted no time ensuring drink orders went in as our party slowly arrived. We ordered so much food but I only have a few pictures to feature. Starters: The Crab & Spinach Dip was wonderful and the tortilla chips seemed to taste more like a fried pita. They were the perfect vessel for the dip. The Calamari was good and had bits of bloomin onion mixed with the squid. Everyone loved the cajun remoulade that was served with it. The crispy brussels sprouts were cooked to perfection with the drizzled candied bourbon glaze. The egg rolls were gone before I could get a picture so I'm assuming they were just as tasty as the rest of the appetizers. Calamari Crab & Spinach Dip South Western Egg Rolls Crispy Brussels Sprouts Entrees: The salmon & goat cheese salad was very filling and we subbed the balsamic for the lemon parsley vinaigrette; which was awesome! The shrimp carbonara wasn't a "carbonara" but I loved it. It was flavorful, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the champagne cream sauce was so creamy. I would absolutely order it again. Salmon & Goat Cheese Salad (sub lemon parsley vinaigrette) Crab Stuffed Shrimp Glazed Salmon Shrimp Carbonara The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the service was fast and attentive. We had a small group of 19 to celebrate my father's surprise 83rd birthday. This year was special because last year my father was rush to the hospital for an emergency heart surgery. He had bought cowboy boots, a hat and a vest but wasn't able to wear them until this year. So we made the theme Western and he loved it. They have limited parking but manageable. They also have street and garage parking too. As you walked, you are greeted with a warm smile and guided to your seat. The full bar is on your left and multiple entrance to dining areas. They also offer outside seating looking over the Rappahannock River and bridge. We ordered shareable appetizers such as calamari, mussels, southwestern egg rolls and brussel sprouts. We each ordered a variety of dishes such as 1) Scallops with risotto 2) Fried goat cheese salad 3) Crispy pork shank 4) Dry age ribeye 5) Mini crab cakes 6) Truffle bacon burger 7) Bottles of wine 8) Variety of cocktail drinks. All food dishes order were on point and delicious. The highlights were the brussel sprouts, southwestern egg rolls, dry age ribeye, truffle bacon burger, and crispy pork shank. I was hesitant to book here after reading recent reviews but decided to try it out. The River Room was very beautiful with a great view of the river and bridge. Our server Jenna was friendly and did a good job. The food was very good as well. A couple of bumps in the road included forgotten dressings for the steak and sides and a long wait for one cocktail, which didn't come out until after we had gotten the check. We had our family Christmas eve dinner here and everything was really great. It was a little crowded, but we had reservations and was seated right away. The had a very kind waitress who really was attentive with us and very friendly. Forban appetizer we had the crab and spinach dip with pita, and it was amazing, tasted great. For an entrée I had the crispy pork shank with butternut squash and asparagus. The shank a little to crispy on the outside, but the porkwas very flavorful and juicy. The butternut squash and asparagus was really good. My wife and grown kids really enjoyed their meals as well. The view on the deck is amazing overlooking the Rappahannock River!! The food was delicious and served with great presentation! We enjoyed the Brussel Sprouts, mini crab cakes and red skin mashed potatoes! Delicious all around!! Brocks Riverside has A LOT of layers to it. Sitting smack on the water, it's similar to a "Mullet", party in the front business in the back..LOL!! So, the front is set up like a tavern/ sports bar, the rear is fine dining and to the rear right is the covered outdoor bar area where you have live music, DJ spinning old and new hits, firepits, hookah and yes, it's cigar friendly which caught me by surprise first visit but damn sure not the second..LOL! First time out, the formal dining room was the scene where awesome food was served. The 12oz Ribeye and the crab stuffed shrimp were both delicious, however, the shrimp were on the smaller side so they may want to find these shrimps parents for future meals.. Lol! The bacon wrapped scallops were an amazing appetizer. The margarita definitely needed a re-do, but the friendly server had NO problem exchanging it for a fantastic mojito. After dinner, it was time to kick it on the cool patio where there are two additional bars and like I said in my opening paragraph, all the other festivities are happening. The cool bartender didn't hesitate when I asked for a Sidecar. Even though he had never made one, he looked up the ingredients and nailed it first time out!! I was still full from dinner but when I smelled the buffalo wings and saw how plump they were, I had to get a to-go order. Yes, they were as good as they smelled..LOL!! My second visit, a formal meal was skipped and headed straight to the rear action! The drinks and service were awesome once again and after one stogie it was time to leave. What a train wreck of a dining experience. First off, we were greeted--or rather, glared at--by the hostess, who seemed personally offended by our presence. I've encountered friendlier TSA agents. Then came our waiter, who floated somewhere between aggressively awkward and vaguely extraterrestrial. He mumbled his way through the greeting and seemed agitated when we didn't automatically know what we wanted to eat. He then disappeared mysteriously never to be seen again. Thankfully, his replacement was quite pleasant and we had her throughout the rest of the meal. She was the highlight of the experience. Now, let's talk about the food. If you can even call it that. I ordered the mussels and despite being presented on the menu as a dinner portion there were maybe 15 mussels total. They served it with one single slice of bread, cut into three tiny slivers. I don't know if they thought this was a high-end plating choice or they just ran out of groceries. My wife's side salad was no better. The ranch dressing looked like they had added water to it, it was so runny. Suffice it to say, we won't be returning. read more

Another long time bookmarked restaurant checked off. A few months ago I visited this restaurant twice and had two different yet enjoyable experiences. This restaurant along the Rappahannock River in Old Town Fredericksburg fires on all cylinders. The first time was in the formal dining area where we ordered bacon wrapped scallops (delish), steak and stuffed shrimp (too small but tasty). After dinner we ventured to one of the many bar areas to enjoy a drink or two... possibly three! The outside bar area overlooks the water but it was nightfall with no visibility... day time next time. This area is a more causal atmosphere with live music, friendly crowd and various seating options. The second time out we skipped the formal dining and headed straight to the outdoor bar. We ordered wings, crab diribs and other bar foods which were all surprisingly tasty. My friend ordered wings to go they were so good. Another win for me was selecting a place where he was able to smoke a stogie, drink an Old Fashion, Manhattan or shake things up with a beer, eat good food and watch the basketball game all in one setting. The bartenders are very aware and attentive. We witnessed one bartender (shorter female) ask a patron how many drinks he had and gave him water instead. The fact they are paying attention for the safety of patrons and others is next level and shows care and concern. One bartender (younger male) made an extra effort to prepare a requested drink for my friend that he had never made before... to perfection I might add and he even remembered the drink during our second visit. I will DEFINITELY return to enjoy the restaurant and the Rappahannock River view. read more

Love love love the new outdoor dining space. The food was so good. The last time I went to Brock's the outdoor space was not finished but it looks amazing now. The service was good as usual. Along with the inbone pork chop, prime rib steak with the delicious sauce over it, and always the burger with sweet potatoe waffle fries. And of course the crispy brussel sprouts appetizer. Came here last night with my girl group for dinner. We had a table by the window and could look at the river the whole meal! Our server was very nice, but each item I asked her about on the menu, she hadn't tried. When I worked in restaurants we had required tastings so we could tell people about the menu items from our own experience- they should bring that back. We ordered the rib bites appetizer, which I paid no attention to the description and learned it was a Sampler of the different ribs they offer-- what a genius idea! They were very good, although one was rather spicy, lucky I didn't get the spicy one! I had a hard time deciding on what to get, and ended up ordering the Fried green tomato BLT with pimento cheese on it. I had to specifically ask for them to heat up the cheese, bc I like my pimento cheese hot and melted! The sando was delicious! Perhaps a bit of tomato jam would have taken it up a notch! The fries were not good. They were like battered fries but the server told me they were shoestring fries, so that was disappointing. We shared the ho-ho dessert and it was soooo good! Not too sweet at all! I kinda wanted the key lime pie bc I have a tangy pallet, but was not displeased in the slightest with the ho-ho! All in all, it was a good meal! Brock's is always a popular location, so I finally decided to give it a try. There's a large indoor dining room, bar, and then there's the outdoors bar portion. The latter has a separate hostess, so you have to check in there for a table. We put our name down and were told it would be a 30 minute wait, so we went to the indoor bar to grab an adult beverage. After 40 minutes, I went to check our status and found out they had crossed our name despite never having called or text that our table was ready. The food menu is pretty extensive and there's something for everyone. We started with the egg rolls ($15) and those were a bit disappointing. The chicken was rubbery and the presentation was lacking. For my entree I had the salmon and goat cheese salad (~$15). The greens and vinaigrette dressing were fine but there were barely any strawberries in the salad and the salmon was tiny. My companion had one of the daily specials, the meat loaf ($25), and said it was just fine. All in all, Brock's is fancy bar food. The quality and taste isn't there if that's what you're looking for. There was live music playing, which was awesome. The bar area, however, was super loud due to the pavilion's construction, so we had a hard time enjoying the tunes. read more

We got the country benedict and the chicken was criminally overcooked to the point that the consistency was like eating rubber. I have never in my life eaten food so bad. Totally killed my appetite. His writing was illegible. He went around the table twice and still couldn't get it right. After our complaining, another server took our order. We waited over an hour and a half for our food. We did not receive bread until an hour and 15 minutes after arriving. Other people arrived in the dining room and received their food in a timely manner. My food came so late (because we had the other appointment) that I had it boxed. Trust me, the portobello sandwich needs to be eaten fresh. The manager did not acknowledge the predicament. We went for restaurant week in Fredericksburg. We were seated right away which was great. Our server was super helpful and accessible. We ordered the dinner special at lunch which was a choice of 2 set menus. For appetizers I had the mozzarella caprice ( it was ok). My husband had the shrimp&grits it was very good. For entrees I had the chicken thighs and mash potatoes, it was delicious. My husband had the pork shank and it was good. It would be easier to list the aspects of Brock's that i DIDN'T like. Here it is: Brock's Riverside Grill is located in Frederisksburg, VA. I live in Virginia Beach, VA. The view was spectacular, the host was funny and engaging, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful, the view of the river kept us completely occupied... UNTIL THE FOOD CAME OUT! I had the crispy Brussels sprouts and the pork shank. I was stuffed but didn't want to stop eating. I will definitely visit Brock's when I am next in the area. Hmmm... The manager first threw an overt FIT about table seating, rambling "RAH, RAH, RAH up in here!!" Then there was confusion about where to seat us, Bar? Hi Top, felt very uncomfortable to get ready to drop $100 on a meal. Manager then was breaking down the bar, clearing it out, while people are trying to enjoy their evening. It seemed they had a floor crew coming in to work on the floor. In closing, the Manager needs to work on his Floor presentation of professionalism. Brock's is a cool place and has the potential to be a cool place. Prepare and plan what happens in your restaurant so you can balance a cool dining experience, while maintaining the upkeep of the property. If I was the owner of Brock's, I would like to have a discussion with the Sunday Night (8/17) night manager. Some lessons in professionalism, and courteous service oriented management. I came here for my birthday. With my family and myself, there was a party of 13 people. The staff was very nice, professional, and accommodating. They had no issue combing tables to suit my family and I. The menu was very vast that it was something on the menu for everyone and the appetizers were great.
