    Salad with gluten free bread

The phone to call up was broken when we arrived. We made reservations saying it was a birthday. No one mentioned the birthday or asked why we were there. Ordered a coffee. They didn't have any coffee even though it's listen on the menu. We ordered off the restaurant week menu. They did have gluten free bread. That was a nice touch. I don't often get bread with dinner. Nothing special about the Caesar salad. My entree wasn't good. The steak was cold and had a weird flavor. The shining star was the banana pudding for dessert. It was delicious! And even came with a gluten free cookie. My dining partner had a pasta dish and whiskey cake that he enjoyed. And the special restaurant week cocktail he also said was delicious. Overall, we spent $150 on a meal I didn't eat. Was expensive banana pudding. I might go back for happy hour. But it was just too expensive for mediocre food when there are other options in the burg.

Fig and ricotta bread pudding. This was genius and delicious. Wish it came with ice cream though.

A quick stop to try it this place and I was not disappointed. The calm ambience was exactly what was needed to end the evening. Will definitely come back to try the main dishes.

Despite not having reservations, we walked up to the speakeasy a week or so after it opened and were greeted by a gentleman at the door. He called upstairs, where the speakeasy is located, and asked if there was a table for a walk-in party of two. Lucky for us, they did. They seated us in the back room, which had probably six tables or so. The main room has more tables and also hosts the bar. Overall, beautiful decor: brick, exposed beams, etc. It has a nice ambiance. Our server was very pleasant, though it took her a bit to greet us and bring us menus. While we decided on food and drinks, our server brought a bowl of kettle popcorn, which was delicious. The food menu was rather small, but perhaps this was because they had only opened about a week prior and were testing it out (just a guess). We ordered the Pink Hummus (pink due to it containing beets) and Toum appetizer. The toum--first time trying it--was more like a sauce... great for dipping! It was definitely garlic and lemon forward. The raw veggies went great with the hummus, while the pita was best for the toum. My dinner companion and I shared the lemon garlic chicken skewers. They were tasty and served on a bed of tricolor couscous. Tasty but the price ($20) was a bit steep for two skewers, and they charge you extra if you order more of the sauce it comes with, which was probably the equivalent of a tablespoon. Overall, nice restaurant with an intimate feel. I'd visit again for a drink and appetizer but not necessarily for dinner since the entree menu was limited when I visited. Hoping they've expanded the menu next time I visit. EDITED to reflect four stars, which is what I originally intended to rate River's End. Thanks to the owner for pointing this out.

Cheeky's is definitely an experience--the kind that makes you say, "Wow, I'm really glad I left my…read morehouse for this." A friend hit me up for happy hour on a Saturday night, and shockingly, I was home from work early enough to actually make it happen. Even more shocking? We chose Cheeky's, and I couldn't have been happier. The last time I was here was back when it was Casey's and Cheeky's was just launching, so I was excited to see how it had evolved. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was giving elegant, cozy, and intimate. Soft lighting, relaxed energy--basically the kind of place that gently tells you to sit down, sip a cocktail, and forget about your responsibilities. My friends had already ordered and kindly let us sample their food. I can't remember exactly what it was (possibly drunken noodles? Possibly magic?), but whatever it was, it was delicious. Since we didn't want to copy their order, my boyfriend and I went with the duck fries, duck wings, and fried beef tips with rice. Let me start with the fries because...wow. Skinny fries tossed in garlic, what tasted like truffle, and cooked in duck fat. Honestly? Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. I would come back just for those. My boyfriend loved the duck wings, which were generously coated in mumbo sauce. A little too saucy for me (I prefer my wings slightly less...bathed), but the flavor was solid and the portion was more than fair. My fried beef tips were everything--perfect crunch, just the right amount of sauce, and packed with flavor. A true masterpiece that really showcased Asian-inspired cuisine at its best. I also ordered the hibiscus lemon drop, which was so good I considered ordering a second (and did). That said, it was a bit overpriced for the size--but still tasty enough to make me forgive it. Overall, Cheeky's is super chic, serves delicious cocktails, and delivers flavorful, creative food. If you're looking for a food adventure or something a little out of the norm, I 100% recommend stopping by for an evening. My only complaint? I still dream about the pork katsu sandwich they had back in the Casey's days--served with homemade wonton chips. I think about that sandwich more often than I'd like to admit. Please...bring it back.

The only issue i had when I went in, was that the coffee tables are a bit lower to the ground than was comfortable. My friend and I came during restaurant Week, apparently during happy hour! We ordered duck fries off the happy hour menu, but then also crispy beef, cucumber salad, biang biang shrimp, and duck wings. Everything was phenomenal! The cucumber salad was too spicy for me but it was a risk I took, even tho I could see all the flakes of red spicy all over it. Our server was very nice and he even tried to do the math to see which way to ring in or order to make the price in our favor. We told him not to worry about it, it's fine. We actually never got the duck fries, but at least it was the HH price and not full price. Oh! Then we got the red velvet cinnamon roll for dessert... I will say, I didn't love it. I love red velvet everything, but did not love that. The icing didn't taste like cream cheese although it was super light and fluffy... it was warm in some areas and just cold in others... idk, I just think it could be better executed in a couple different ways. Typically i might take a star away for not getting an item ordered and not loving the dessert, but i didn't mention any of it, so there was no option for the establishment to do anything about it even if they wanted to.

Free street parking nearby was easy to find. If you have a private event, you go to the back of the restaurant at the right and down some stairs. The private event room felt very bachelor den-like in a good way. There were leather seats surrounding the room and a tiny bar with a bartender to make us drinks. We were able to order whatever drink we wanted on the menu. For food, they brought trays out buffet style. We tried a variety of things. The star of the show was the Brussels sprouts. They were cooked to perfection and had a great sweet sauce. I enjoyed the salad too. They also brought out wings, mini burgers, mini fried chicken sandwiches, and tuna. Some were overcooked, but the flavor was nice. The seating was a bit awkward for a group our size in the private room, but we made it work. It was nice how casual it was.

I had just come from a hair appointment down the street and on my way back to my car, I noticed Sangria advertised on the mini sandwich board outside. I'm a HUGE fan of a glass of fruity Sangria on a hot day! The fact that it was Happy Hour with $5 glasses made it even easier to draw me inside!! When I explained this was my first visit, they explained the Curio concept, the various areas for sitting, sipping and gathering as well as the Curio Card process. They even had a small but really intriguing menu of various snacks, from charcuterie to flatbread and even dessert. The menu changes a couple times a month, making me want to plan more visits! The staff offered me sips of each so I could decide on a Sangria flavor. Despite not being a Moscato fan, I chose the Moscato Mule Sangria. It was light, refreshing and had the Moscow Mule flavors with the added sweetness of Moscato wine. I wandered into the cellar to explore more wine offerings and wound up running into fellow educators and their friends I had never met. We chatted like we were catching up and laughed about shared birthdays and teaching!! They invited me to hang with them, but I had to get home for Dog Mom Duty. We exchanged numbers so we could plan another "run-in" downtown SOON! If you haven't visited Curio, I HIGHLY recommend it. Bring a friend, or plan on making a few. Next time, I'll be ordering food with my wine and lingering much longer! Thanks for a great end to my week. See y'all soon! Cheers!

I haven't tried the food here yet, but I'll definitely be coming back for the cinnamon spiced sangria and the mulled wine (must be bought from the bar. Not available on tap.) A must for all wine lovers.

Tried to order three different beers, and every one of them was "not available today," which is restaurant talk for "the truck's late and so are we." Artie the bartender just gave this little shoulder shrug that said, "Partner, I don't make the rules, I just open the bottles." The place itself helped the afternoon along. The building is laid out so you can see just about everything from your stool: bar, tables, who's coming in the door, and whether your food is on its way. Sightlines were wide open, nothing cluttered or cramped, and the whole joint looked super clean, like somebody actually cares what it looks like before the crowd shows up. So we did what any sensible, thirsty people would do: picked two other beers, ordered some apps, and decided not to take life--or the tap list--too seriously. The beer we got was cold, the food was hot, and Artie turned out to be the kind of bartender you come back to see more than you come back for the menu. We'll be back, too. Lewis would've gotten a whole column out of that shrug. The food was excellent, too. The fish bites alone just about made the afternoon; if the beer list had completely fallen apart, we still would've called it a win on those.

Since learning that, we have made our own oyster tradition and seek to have them in January because it can't hurt! I saw that Port Oysteria was participating in FXBG restaurant week which is happening now and thought it was a great opportunity for us to try someplace new and get our oysters. While we did not order anything from the restaurant week specials (there was only one at lunch, and a couple more after 3pm) my wife and I did enjoy a nice lunch today. The chargrilled oysters were just right for us to share as a starter and very tasty. My wife had the fried oyster po-boy and I had the blackened grouper sandwich; both were delicious. The coleslaw was good as was the Parmesan mashed potatoes. There is a good beer selection on tap and an interesting cocktail list. Our first beer choice was out, but our backup choices were good. Service was good but the restaurant was not very busy. The atmosphere is interesting with moody, dark painted walls and bold murals and a mix of '90s grunge and alt-pop music in the background. We definitely want to go back for dinner sometime and try more of the menu.
