Moscow Mule & Pimm's Cup

Not gonna lie, I kinda wanted to give this place a 3-star rating because I didn't expect the drinks to be as pricey. I checked the menu on their website, but the prices weren't as cheap when we actually visited in person. They should probably just update their website to avoid other confusion. HOWEVER, the place was still pretty cool, and I would still recommend checking it out if you're in town. Drinks: The drinks were okay. Nothing too crazy or impressive, in my opinion. We still enjoyed them though. I wish I could've tried a few more, but my bill was basically $23 for 2 cocktails. :/ Service: We went on a Saturday night, so there was a period of waiting to get in. After knocking on the door, a bouncer answered and put our names on the list. When spots opened up, he called us to let us in. He was a really nice guy! The bartenders were also very attentive and made our drinks quickly. Atmosphere: Okay, so the novelty aspect of this place is what really earned this speakeasy a 4-star. It was definitely a really cool experience! It was kind of like an adventure finding the place in itself. Hidden behind a locked door, was a cozy, candlelit bar with old-timey couches, vintage wall decor, and free goldfish at each table. Because it's a speakeasy, it's also not crowded, so maybe it'd be a cute date spot!

This place is so much fun. Little pricey but worth it for a special occasion. We went for a friends birthday and really enjoyed it.

The experience usually great, which is why we keep coming back, and the menu is always fun! The service started great and the food came looking fantastic as usual, until I found a long hair in my bowl. Molly was very apologetic once we showed her the hair and she took it inside to show the kitchen. I told her I don't want another bowl , as I didn't want the food to go to waste and didn't have time to wait for a new one. Here is were the service turned south; - Molly didn't come back to check on us or fill the water cups - We didn't get a discount of any kind in the check, as you would normally expect! - I expected the chef or the manager on duty to come out and apologize, but that didn't happen. - Finally, Molly brought our check when we finished eating and didn't ask if we are interested in desserts, as typically the case! Just very odd reaction to an issue Like this, and shows lack of professionalism and training on behalf of the management on how to deal with bad customer experience like a hair in the food. By the way, I'm bold, so the long hair is from the kitchen!

We were visiting Harrisonburg for the weekend and after looking on Yelp for a good place to have…read moredinner on a Saturday night, we decided on Capital Ale House. Lots of prom kids and college students filled the place. We were quickly seated in a nice booth and Nate our server helped us with some stout beers. We had a milk stout and a caramel macchiato stout the latter of which was the best. Looking at the menu I have to say it was not your standard ale house fair. It was definitely "elevated" in this regard. We asked to split a 2 soft shell entree with broccolini & seasoned mash, a bowl of crab bisque and a pierogi sampler. We also asked for an extra plate, to which Nate said he would take care of it. When the food arrived it was divided perfectly. Nate had split the bowl of soup into 2 small bowls and he divided the entree and sides onto 2 plates. The soft shell crabs were HUGE, the largest I had ever seen, and crisply fried to perfection. The sides were equally exquisite in their flavor and preparation. The crab bisque was loaded with fresh lump crabmeat and perfectly seasoned. The pirogies were also excellent in flavor and presentation. It was the most satisfying meal I'd had in a while (could be because I was craving soft shells) Needless to say we were very happy with the food in every way and were stuffed as we asked for the check. Nate/Nathaniel really made the experience as he was highly attentive, though caring for many tables, and was quick to take care of our every need. The place was really rocking with customers and everyone there was having a great time. We'll definitely be back and let everyone we know what a top notch establishment Capital Ale House in Harrisonburg is.

Called in advance to see if we could make a reservation and they said no reservations. When we arrive and wait for ~25 minutes with 7 open tables, I ask why the tables are open... they had reservations?! Is there a 24 hour limit or something I didn't know about? Can I not make a same day reservation? As soon as I was about to leave for another restaurant, we got seated and I really wish we didn't. The pretzel appetizer we ordered arrived 2 minutes before the meals, so much for eating this before the main course. Two of us ordered soup, SOUP... a meal that should not be rocket science to prepare. The soup took approx. 20 minutes and came out with our meal? Not even an appetizer at that point. Two of us ordered burgers and I really hope I don't get sick - the burger was cold, didn't have grill marks, and the medium rare had uncooked juice pouring out with a nice red inside. I'm honestly not even sure if they cooked this on the grill, it tasted like it was microwaved. One of us had to send it back and the other finished maybe half. Not sure if I'd even want my dog to eat that burger lol. If you're going to have a restaurant built to serve large amounts of people, you should probably be prepared to serve large amounts of people. I'd look elsewhere if you're in Harrisonburg.

After figuring out parking (we ended up on the side nearest to the Daily News Record) it was a short walk to the restaurant. The staff here is wonderful. Our hostess greeted us, even mentioning the birthday celebration and upon hearing it was our first time reassured us we were in great hands with Jimmy our server and he would walk us through the experience. No truer words have been spoken Jimmy was excellent in his descriptions, recommendations, and the history lesson on the significance of the restaurant and it's name. Simply lovey all around. We started with the bacon wrapped dates and the tuna tartare. Both were delicious; the dates came in 4 pieces which was enough to share without making you full and the sauces were great. The tartare came with some excellent sauced and salted tortilla chips which accentuated the taste of the tuna. Recommend if you like fresh fish. For entrees we had the duck breast and the Alaskan cod special. They were excellent. The duck was crispy and tender while the cod was simply a flavor explosion with the kale, potatoes, and purees that accompanied it. I also recommend their cocktails and mocktails. We had the signature cocktail and a dragon fruit "nojito" which I can't wait to have in the summertime as a refresher. To close out the night we had the bread pudding special which came with figs and vanilla bean ice cream. It was a great way to celebrate the birthday and to discover what will surely be a new favorite.

This is an amazing spot in Harrisonburg. I am not from Harrisonburg and have only visited the area…read moreas my son who is considering becoming a Duke. I have now been to Cuban Burger twice almost three times. The third time we weren't offered a table as my daughter and I had 7 Brew drink in our hand so we didn't have lunch there that day. I will say that I love the flavors of Cuban. Everything I have tried has here been not but amazing. I loved their guava mint gingerale. Their Yuca with green sauce is amazing, along with the empanadas. The burgers and plantains are on point. I would love a cuban coffee added to the menu for after my meal. Here is why this review isn't getting five stars from me. The guy at the door is a little non-welcoming to put it nicely. I noticed it twice. He seems to make assumptions of why you are there. The first time was Sip and Stroll weekend when my husband and I entered the building and told us we should order from the window outside (assuming we were there for Sip and Stroll which we were not) when we were there for lunch. The second time I noticed was when my daughter and I were not offered a table as we had cups in our hands from 7Brew. He assumed we were there to pick up. Then after we said okay and turned to leave he is even yelling at us that there on signs on the door that state that (which we did not notice) so we couldn't bring them in. I totally get rules but I just feel he could have come across less harsh and perhaps we would have put them in the car and come back in for lunch. That day we decided to try some place different. I will say my server both times has been great though. The food has been great. I would like to come back but I am a little put off by the host guy. Not sure if we will try a new restaurant next time we are in town or we will give Cuban Burger a shot again.
