It is very cute restaurant and but it is very dark atmosphere and it brings mot happy vibes and the food is really good and they seriously need to paint this restaurant colorful and make it happy and male it feel like you are in Cuba and it is very clean and sanitary and the staff are always on top of it and happy friendly and caring and loving also always welcoming and kind and caring respectful. It is okay place for me and not my favorite and they seriously need to get rid of the BLACK COLOR and make it colorful and beautiful colors of CUBA! Happy school year! From Lauren read more

This is an amazing spot in Harrisonburg. I am not from Harrisonburg and have only visited the area as my son who is considering becoming a Duke. I have now been to Cuban Burger twice almost three times. The third time we weren't offered a table as my daughter and I had 7 Brew drink in our hand so we didn't have lunch there that day. I will say that I love the flavors of Cuban. Everything I have tried has here been not but amazing. I loved their guava mint gingerale. Their Yuca with green sauce is amazing, along with the empanadas. The burgers and plantains are on point. I would love a cuban coffee added to the menu for after my meal. Here is why this review isn't getting five stars from me. The guy at the door is a little non-welcoming to put it nicely. I noticed it twice. He seems to make assumptions of why you are there. The first time was Sip and Stroll weekend when my husband and I entered the building and told us we should order from the window outside (assuming we were there for Sip and Stroll which we were not) when we were there for lunch. The second time I noticed was when my daughter and I were not offered a table as we had cups in our hands from 7Brew. He assumed we were there to pick up. Then after we said okay and turned to leave he is even yelling at us that there on signs on the door that state that (which we did not notice) so we couldn't bring them in. I totally get rules but I just feel he could have come across less harsh and perhaps we would have put them in the car and come back in for lunch. That day we decided to try some place different. I will say my server both times has been great though. The food has been great. I would like to come back but I am a little put off by the host guy. Not sure if we will try a new restaurant next time we are in town or we will give Cuban Burger a shot again. read more

Cuban Burger is my kind of place, and it's become a go to spot during trips to visit our JMU student (Go Dukes). Food: The plantains with sea salt are a bit of a revelation. I've had many plantains, in the US and South America. I was surprised at just how good these plantains are, the salt adds to the flavor impact. The El Vaquero sandwich is the star of the show. I tried it based on a recommendation from the bartender while waiting for a table. Excellent. This is my go to order at Cuban Burger. The Cuban Sandwiches are among the best I've had North of Miami. Authentic Cuban dishes served up in Harrisonburg. Service: We've been several times and the service has been epically good. Friendly, helpful in navigating the menu and making recommendations, with a treat you like a local vibe. Stellar. Ambience: Cuban Burger has the feeling of a hidden gem, part dive bar/local bar, with an international flair. The bar has a small library of books I enjoyed flipping through. Drinks: My favorite mixed drink is a well crafted, authentic caipirinha. However, truly legitimate caipirinhas are hard to find. Cuban Burger bartenders know how to make consistently great caipirinhas - the citrus flavors are on point, and they hit the right amount of strong. A great caipirinha should leave you feeling happy. Mission accomplished We're glad we stopped in and it has become a local favorite. read more

We got a table right away on a Friday night (away game weekend). They only had high tops and the seating was stools. We ordered Cuban sandwiches and something like a breakfast burger (it had a fried egg). The food came out without fries and it took about 20 extra minutes for the fries to show up. I liked the cuban- excellent pillowy bread and not greasy at all! My teenager gave the burger a 10/10 and is still talking about it. Service was super polite and attentive. I would love to go back and try the chop chop when I have a bigger appetite. read more

Cuban Burger does absolutely awesome work! We went to Harrisonburg for a little Christmas decoration shopping (#hobbylobby) and chose one of our favorite spots for dinner! Excellent, friendly and attentive service. Menu is perfect size with great options for all. We sat at the bar tonight and, as always, great, local vibes! I got the Big MAKA because I love a Big Mac from 20 years ago, but Cuban Burger's take on this, with their fresh ingredients, is just incredible! The Buenos Dias is my bride's favorite burger around! The fries are addicting! Just a great experience all the way around. Can't wait until our next visit!! #deitzeatz read more

Once again Yelp didn't disappoint. In town traveling through and we decided on dinner here. Great free parking garage across the street, made it easy to park. Service was good. Items and beer were explained. Clarification on food item and great recommendations. Food $14. For a large El Cuban sandwich not bad. Very good flavor and enough for half to have for lunch another time. Del Fuego Hamburger $11.00 the peppers and spicy green sauce added to a nice heat flavor. Again large enough for half for lunch another time. French Fries nothing special. Papas Fritas. Was hoping they were a little different but that was me. Overall inside is nice appears to have lots of seating. Would recommend when in the area and would return again if in the area again. What made it special for the 5th star. Owner came over to chat with us. Also checked on us to see if we needed anything. Wasn't afraid to "get her hands dirty" a take a dirty plate or bring you something if the waiter was busy. read more

Cuban burger is a decent spot in downtown Harrisonburg. It has some steep competition being located right next to Bella Luna, but it holds it's own (somewhat). I ate here with a party of 3 on a Saturday night about an hour before closing time, but we could tell the staff were already about ready to call it quits (there were 2 other tables in the restaurant with us). We placed our orders and the appetizer came out quickly. We got the yucca with salsa verde. Yucca was decent, nothing exceptional; if anything it was slighly undercooked, feeling a bit raw in some of the thicker parts. The salsa verde, however, was delicious. So much so that we basically ended up saving it for our french fries and running out. For an entree I got the El Americano, basically the traditional American burger. Burger was good, juicy, and filled with plenty of toppings. But the fries were a disappointment. Flavorless, needed tons of salt and pepper to bring them back to life. The salsa verde was our saving grace, but when we needed it most it dissapeared. Also, the waitress did not come back to refill our waters until we had finished eating (nor did we even see her so we could flag her down). I get that it was near closing, but I mean there was still 30-40 minutes left, it's not like we showed up 10 minutes before close. I don't really think I'd go out of my way to eat here next time I'm in Harrisonburg, but it was pretty good. read more

Food was outstanding, had the Chop Chop which had all the flavors of good Cuban food. Also, speak with the bar tender about cocktails, she knows her stuff! Recommended a Mezcal Old Fashioned derivative - out of this world. They have clear ice which makes the drink so much better. read more

Don't waste your money! This place is atrocious and they should be ashamed of themselves. Charging us an outrageous price for two Maka burgers And they were awful. Puny, dry, no flavor. Seriously, if they don't ask you how you like your burger cooked? You know you're in trouble. It was exactly like a McDonald's burger or something along those lines with the slimy dilled pickle chip and a glob of questionable sauce. The fact that this place was dead at 8:00 p.m. On a Friday night the eve of a big football game tells you all you need to know. Sadly we had gotten our order to go and we would definitely return this garbage if we felt like making the drive. This place is a disgrace. read more

Burger are indeed the way to go. And the vaquero is great (it isn't as crazy large as it sounds like it would be, so delicious but the right size). The pork sandwiches are ok, I've tried Cuban's all over, never blown away, so these are good , but the burgers are way better. The Chop salad was a full meal, and tasty as well. Service was terrific and friendly. Not a big place, but enough seating for a group of friends. read more

Update I had been here years ago while passing through on a road trip. I felt like I remember it being very good and it lived up to my memory. We both went with the El Vaquero and it was perfect again. Unsure of how much we wanted, we also split the papas borachas. It's a perfect mix of fries, cheese, and jalapenos. Such a great meal and really nice staff. Wish it was closer. read more

Amazing food and drinks (the Spanish Old Fashioned is outstanding). The service is always top notch.

One of the best mom and pop restaurants in the area. They were so accommodating with my allergies and the meal was delicious.

I was in town visiting my freshman at JMU and needed dinner before hitting road back to Maryland. This was one of the best burgers I ever had. The restaurant is Cuban themed but I went conservative and got the Americano which is basically a cheeseburger with LT and pickles. The bun was so soft yet held the burger perfectly. And the skinny fries were crisp and perfect for dipping in ketchup. The manager told me the meat and buns are locally sourced. She said the Cuban bread is a favorite because it is made fresh. I will have to try something Cuban next time. Free parking in garage across the street. If you love burgers and / or Cuban food this is a must visit when at JMU or Harrisonburg. read more

First time in Harrisonburg, lets get something to eat to start the trip off. Where? CubanBurger. Looking at the reviews...... Let's go! 1 Star = Its not good 2 Stars= Something's missing 3 Stars= It's ok 4 Stars= It's good 5 Stars= It's Bangin! Right off the back the hostess was very welcoming, and the decor, I'm loving it. However, the Redskins Jersey I for sure thought that it belonged to a Cuban player.......Nope. Then I noticed they were playing my favorite classic rock songs . It's fine, it's a good thing. Ok ok. I was hungry, not starving. So I ordered something someone complained wasn't enough food. Perfect for me because I wanted to try an appetizer as well. Yucca Frita con Salsa Verde please. I was bummed that it didn't come stacked like a house as advertised, however it was the best Yuca north of Cuba I've tasted, delicious . I must add that the table didn't really care for the Salsa Verda, however the 2 garlic sauces (excuse my ignorance) sufficed. Honestly the sauce is delicious. Main Course: El Vaquero It took sending it back twice before the bun was toasted (on the inside) In there defense, they thought I wanted the top of the bun toasted more fair enough since that's the part that is normally toasted for this specific sandwich.....and Cuban sandwiches in general. I asked for the the spicy-smoked aioli to be on the side.....big mistake. My reasoning was I wanted that LATIN FLAVOR!........ There wasn't much (For the my taste). See, I read some reviews that boasted about flavor! Long story short, I read numerous reviews and realized it depends on who's in the kitchen. I drew the short stick (or day) The sauce ...great for the sandwich Cuts of meat, excellent Fries...must've been great because I swallowed them lol. Oh, the soda I had. It was a special type of Ginger Ale. Wow! I loved it! I can't even call it out because it's not listed in the online menu. All in all, it was good. I will definitely return I am Critic read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! My favorite hole in the wall in Harrisonburg. Burgers are fantastic, juicy/quality beef at a very reasonable price and portion. This visit I opted for the 'Cuban chop chop' which is essentially a burrito bowl- rice/beans served on top of lettuce. Decent portion and well flavored. The fried yuca appetizer is also very tasty. The ambiance is very 'quiet/secluded' with dark interiors and candles on the tables. Definitely worth visiting. read more

Great food and excellent service even with our large party of 20 ppl including 12 kids. Def. recommend.

Burgers are great. The El Vaquero is delicious. I also really appreciate that they have a veggie burger so that I can eat here with my vegetarian fiance. The chop shop is also really good, and the garlic lime aoli is very yummy. The tostones are ok, they are a bit on the dry side. But be forewarned: the burgers don't come with fries if you get them to go. We thought that they came with them because the menu lists fries with all of the burgers. Picked up our food and got all the way home, only to realize they didn't come with fries. Super bummer. Wish I'd have known so I could have asked for them. We were really looking forward to the fries. read more

Underwhelmed, unfortunately. I was looking so forward to trying this place, and maybe it was the items we ordered, but I won't be a repeat customer. 2 stars seems harsh, so I'd go 2.5, but 3 also seems too generous. Don't bother with: *Papas Borachas (too salty and so American, they were sad. Beige fries, beige cheese, a couple of tomatoes and jalapeños--not worth it) *El Original burger (so bland, actually no flavor, remarkable actually) *kale Caesar salad (good baby kale, bottle dressing) *el vaquero (another bland burger, some kind of sauce, which made it better than the other burger, but it wasn't very good) Definitely order the Yucca Fries!! The green sauce it comes with is precisely the flavor I was looking and hoping for. The service was pretty slow, there were only 2 other couples there and it took about 30 mins to get our food. Server was awesome! read more

Yes yes yes, 100x yes!! CubanBurger exceeded my high expectations! The chicken chop chop had it all: plentiful leafy greens, the satisfying crunch of raw onion, the creaminess and zing of an unknown magical sauce and grilled chicken over a bed of rice and beans Not only did it taste amazing, I FELT amazing after eating it! read more

Smaller venue, but don't let that stop you. The service was top notch. John took his time with us and was just great. Their GM, Shami, was an absolute delight. She stopped by several times with recommendations, traveling stories and as an ex-resident of our home state even gave us some ideas of places to try. Now the food -- YES! Their breads were so fresh they smelled like they'd just been taken from the oven. We had the Cuban Cheesesteak and Pollo a la Plancha sandwiches. We are still debating which one was better!! This is an awesome little spot in Harrisonburg. It was late and slow on a Saturday night but they were still open and I was starving. I got a mojito and a Hemingway daiquiri for cocktails. Daiquiri was delicious. The mojito was decent- I was expecting a more authentic mojito with crushed limes, properly muddled mint, and granulated sugar or caster sugar (not simple syrup). I only expected such authenticity because everything else was so on point. The sandwich was an amazing Cuban. The bread is shipped in from Ybor City and it's as good as it gets. Meats were flavorful and perfect ratio of meats, condiment and pickles. I devoured the entire thing and it was huge! The side of black beans were great too. They have a very cumin flavor. Service was over the top. Every single employee was friendly and attentive. I sat at the bar. I already recommended this place to a friend who is a critic of Cuban sandwiches they're that good. Want the tropical island atmosphere right in the heart of Shenandoah? You can find that here at Cuban Burger, along with a selection of delectable meals! We visited here in the fall (September), so the temperature was still on the warmer side. One of the first things I've noticed was the blowing fans which was reminiscent of the Florida and islands down south. Coupled with the convenience of being located across a parking deck in historic downtown Harrisonburg, the venue was already a promising start. The staff was more than welcoming, who then provided excellent service throughout. We were led to an indoor dining area was generously spaced, allowing comfortable distancing between parties. The ambiance may appear a bit "divy" due to the relatively dimmer lighting and lingering notes of rum, however I would argue that it contributes favorably to this tropical feel of the venue. We ordered the Del Fuego Burger with a side of fries and the Cuban Chop Chop with added pork. The burger was great - not the best burger, but definitely excellent for originality. I personally found the green spicy sauce to resemble garlicky chimmichurri dressing rather than a spicy Mexican salsa. It was definitely a great pairing with the rest of the burger ensemble. Meanwhile, the fries were spot on and fresh! (Could have used a bit more salt, but you cannot deny that they were made nd cooked to perfection). The Cuban Chop Chop was refreshing, containing proportional servings of rice, greens, and meat. The pork presents a hash appearance, but do not let that appearance fool or dissuade you. The combination of the pan fried-pressed crunch of the outside and the tender and juicy pulled bits serves as a great topper protein to the overall platter. It is definitely worth trying. I would definitely recommend stopping here for a meal if you're in Harrisonburg, and I'm definitely coming back here to try out their other menu items! read more
