If you want the BEST crab dip of your life then come here. I love crab dip so decided to order it, but no one else at the table wanted it... 10 mins later there was not a lick of crab dip left. It was amazing. Additionally our server was amazing and had a great sense of humor. Definitely will be back soon!! read more

Jimmy Madison's was one of our favorite meals while visiting Harrisonburg. The restaurant has a warm, cozy pub atmosphere with dark wood-paneled walls, a beautiful spiral staircase, two levels of seating, and even a rooftop area. We were seated in a comfortable booth on the second floor. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive from the moment we arrived. The menu has a nice variety of appetizers, entrées, and sides, making it difficult to decide because everything sounded so good. I ordered the pulled pork with mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts topped with bacon and candied pecans, and hush puppies. Everything was delicious, and the portions were generous, I couldn't even finish my meal. The Brussels sprouts were especially outstanding. Jimmy Madison's is well worth a visit. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Harrisonburg. read more

Decent BBQ. We tried the double meat platter. More than enough for two people! It was decent. I probably like the pork more than the brisket. The mashed potatoes are so creamy and wonderful and the brussel sprouts were top notch. read more

We were a fairly large party so I really appreciated the level of service and attentiveness. The food was okay- didn't love my cocktail or food, but the vibes were great for the occasion! read more

The ambience was amazing, service was quick. The only reason I didn't enjoy it more was because of the lack of vegetarian options, but the green tomato sandwich I ended up getting was wonderful! Their hot sauces/mild sauces are also wonderful. Would definitely come back if I find another veggie option. read more

My wife and I tried this restaurant today while traveling and it was amazing. The restaurant is very clean and themed well. The service was top notch and prompt. The food was excellent! I had the meatloaf sandwich and my wife had the smoked turkey sandwich. I had macaroni salad and she had the Brussels sprouts . We also had the chopped brisket nachos. I have to say the high light of the meal was the Brussels sprouts they are awesome. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through the city. read more

Service was horrible. We stood at the host stand for 10 minutes while there were 2 parties in the restaurant. The server took our order and disappeared for 35 minutes We never received our food nor did she ever come back and check on us. When I said I wanted to pay for the drinks she ignored me and walked in the back Finally someone came out with food to go and said there was no charge. Which is nice but it was the least they could do. We order the bbq which we were told it would be super quick bc it's already prepped. The server was incredibly rude. We won't be back I wish I could give no stars. read more

Just left Jimmy Madison's after eating a fantastic Bacon Royale Burger. The burger was well seasoned and not over sauced. My only real complaint is to use a few less leaves of lettuce. I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was nice and pink in the middle, but still hot throughout. I got fries as a side and they were good, but a little salty. The server, Mimi was super kind and attentive as she took my eat-in order as well as my take-out that I plan to have for lunch tomorrow. She even offered me a set of the restaurants silverware to go, as they were out of the plasticware sets and a Diet Pepsi to go. I've only been here one other time but it's always so so good. Highly recommend! My take out order was the BBQ Combo Platter with smoked turkey and pulled pork, Mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. I also got the cinnamon roll bread pudding to go cuz you really can't go wrong with that! The fried pickles and brisket nachos are also great apps, just didn't have them this time. read more

I took my meal TO GO. The smoked meat loaf was very tasty and nice portion, I got two meals from it. I bought both kinds of Brussels sprouts and the Jimmy Sprouts were the best, in my opinion although the other was good too. While waiting for my food, I had a Mint Julep which was also very good. The service was very friendly. I used a walker and the hostess came out immediately to help me up the 3 stairs, but and on exit, showed me a flat exit. Next time I visit Massanutten, I will go back to Jimmy Madison's. Parking was full near the location but there is a lot about 2 blocks away with plenty of free parking read more

A group of 7 of us were trying to find a spot in Harrisonburg to have lunch and we stumbled upon this restaurant. They were able to seat us right away, on a Saturday at about 2. I got a brunch mangonada, and it was tasty and well priced. I had the steakhouse burger which was cooked well. Our service was great, the waitress helping us was on top of helping our table. It did take a while for our food to come to the table. read more

Came here on Saturday night, no wait, probably because of the bitter cold. Really nice ambiance inside and place is huge inside. Was not expecting much from a BBQ joint but I was shocked at how good their sides were. The pulled chicken, pulled pork, and sliced brisket were okay, but not the best I have ever had. The assortment of sauces on the table were very nice. However, the sides are what make me want to come back. Our server convinced us to try the sprouts as an appetizer, and we did, impressive. Best Mac and greens I have ever had at a BBQ. Pasta salad was also fresh and different. Time between app and the main could have been shorter, but not a big deal. Expect a long wait during college events. read more

Well the service was excellent we sat on the roof and it was fun. We enjoyed the music and our drinks were delicious. The food was superb, my only complaint was the menu could have had more to choose from. I had the smoked meat loaf and it was delicious. read more

We were recommended to go here from a friend that went to JMU. My boyfriend got the BBQ combo platter (brisket and pulled chicken) with the pasta salad and Brussels for this sided and I had the pulled pork platter and the Mac and cheese and Brussels, jimmy style. Everything was really good except the brisket, he unfortunately got a bad cut and majority of it was fat and the parts that were meat weren't as flavorful as he hoped. It was tender and moist but it wasn't much nor tasty. However our server was excellent. Always dropping by and checking on us. The check took a while to get to us, but he was very apologetic and very kind. Overall a great place but wished the brisket could have been a bit better. read more

The setting was nice and comfortable, food was good, and the bartender didn't skimp on mixed drinks!

Delicious food. My boyfriend and I went for lunch here and we couldn't recommend it more. I had pulled pork and he had the turkey melt, both of which were fantastic. We actually bought one of the BBQ sauces to take with us (Smokin Sweet is the best one!). Our server, I believe his name was Tom, was super nice and attentive. Both of us had at least 3 drinks and our cups were never empty. Definitely stop by here if you get the chance. read more

We were in town and decided to try them. It was a mixed bag. The pulled pork was very good - moist and flavorful. The mustard-based bbq sauce was a good addition. The brisket was ok. It lacked a smoked flavor and even the moist brisket was dry. I tried not to judge it based on my brisket at home (in Texas) so I asked those in our party for their opinion and theirs was identical so there you have it. The turkey was really good - flavorful and very moist. The deep fried pickles were probably good but should be removed from the take-out menu. We arrived well before our food was ready and it was only a 10-minute drive and the pickles (wrapped tightly in foil) were a soggy mess - inedible. The Jimmy Sprouts were truly amazing. My wife and I aren't real brussel sprout fans but the description with the nuts and bacon and glaze sounded great and did not disappoint! The portion was very generous and great! The Farmer Salad with grilled chicken was also very flavorful and fresh - very tasty and from the samples I had, I would order it in the future. The Hush Puppies were not good. While they were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, which was good, they had absolutely no flavor whatsoever and nobody ate more than 1/2. The coleslaw was great - a mayo based coleslaw which was fresh and very tasty - and I'm a coleslaw snob, so that says a lot of I liked it. The broccoli salad was surprisingly very good. It had cheese, pine nuts, soaked golden raisins (not chewy) with a creamy coleslaw type dressing with a hint of dill- it was really good. So - if I could it would have been a 3.5 Stars but since there are no 1/2 stars I will err on the generous side and give 4 Stars. It's a place I would go back to if I were in the area but probably not one I would be looking to go back to. As I said - a mixed bag. read more

This place was pretty good. Seems like an older crowd during the day. Although, we were there at a strange time - after lunch and before happy hour. Nothing really noteworthy. Nothing was bad, but I wasn't blown away either. Seems to have pretty cool industrial style aesthetic. Service was pretty good. read more

I see why this place is popular to people now. The sauces were delicious (I really liked the mustard!), the fried green tomatoes were light and delicious (that pimento cheese sauce was incredible), the bacon royal burger was huge that I ended up needing to use my fork and knife because it was hard to manage like a normal burger. The thyme ginger spritzer was so refreshing. read more

The restaurant had a lovely vibe. The lighting, music, and decorations portrayed their southern theme well. The service was friendly but slow even though the restaurant was not busy. The food was satisfying, and the portions were large. Didn't wow me, though. My food also came out a little cold which didn't help the case. Would go again though. read more

Cool place. Our waitress was very friendly, sweet and had good recommendations. The OG Bloody Mary was right up my alley, olives, Texas Pete, bacon, celery and more on the saltier side. I got the Fried Chicken w/ Mac n cheese, it was decent but not a repeat for me. My wife had the Brisket which was underwhelming, cooked right but just bland. Overall I think this is a hip and happening joint for the locals, and definitely worth checking out. We got in at a very quiet time thankfully. We wouldn't have tried it had it been as busy as it supposedly gets. Glad we caught it. read more

We were down in Hburg this past week and visited JM's again. We had a great experience there before several times. Drinks were great, very polite staff at the front. The place is HOPPING on a Friday night. Staff seemed to enjoy working there and have a good team rapport. What I noticed is how many different types of people were enjoying themselves. Middle aged people after work in business attire, young people in casual attire. I think the place is very clever to offer quite exquisite looking Mocktails for the student age population. No reason for anyone to feel left out. Great food and service and a very happy vibe. I wish there were a tad more variety in the menu, but you can't be all things to all people and it is more important to do a select number of items extremely well. We will definitely return. read more

Just outside of JMU, Jimmy's has a classic tavern look. We tried a bunch of dishes, drinks and appetizers, but I'm not sure I could give this five stars. It got four stars because our server was attentive even having to shuttle everything upstairs. I would say of the 8 dishes we tried, none were anything we would write about. read more

Welcome lunch break in a 6-hour drive. Was looking for something unique and Jimmy Madison's came through. It was the Jimmy Sprouts that sealed the choice in where to eat. Fantastic service. Great twists on menu items. Wonderful venue ... old Sears and Roebuck building - old timbers exposed. Would be even better if the small stage area at one end were out to use with live music. The place just had the feel of a speakeasy. read more

CLEANLINESS FIRST! So...GREAT FOOD, AMAZING SERVICE! It's got a great vibe and the drink options are very tasty and creative. I was so impressed I filled out a review card and gushed! THEN I USED THE RESTROOM, and I wanted to gag!!! There is ZERO EXCUSE FOR THAT SINK!!! WTAF is growing on it!!??? It's the restroom on the first floor, to the left of the bar. If this is how the bathroom sink that EVERYONE uses and sees looks like, WHAT DOES THE KITCHEN, that NO ONE SEES, look like!!!??? Absolutely not!!!! This is disgusting!!! I'll be praying all night that we don't get sick now. So incredibly disappointing!!! read more

Really cool place, appreciate the rustic ambiance and looks like plenty of room for large parties. The service was good. Not excellent, but good. The food was just ok though, expected better considering the reviews. My brisket was just shy of where it should be on the cook, but tasted decent. My wife said her pulled pork was dry and had that day old vibe contrary to the servers comment about made fresh daily. Mac and cheese was probably some of the best I've had for restaurant quality, but if they served my wife's people would be lined up out the door. We would definitely come back, especially to try some other dishes. read more

What a cool place! Two floors of BBQ goodness. This was my second time here, but we were just visiting for a quick lunch. So we both ordered spinach salads... Oh my goodness, that might have been the best spinach salad I have ever eaten, and that's because it had fried green tomatoes on it that absolutely blew my mind. Finally stopped at JMads as my son is a 2nd year at JMU. Four of us were able to walk in at 1pm on a Saturday and be seated right away, although it became crowded soon after. The restaurant has a cool, old time bar vibe. Lots of seating, great bar and not too loud. We ordered drinks. While this is a whiskey bar and they had some great whiskey cocktails, we had to drive home so no chance to try this time. Our order: Pulled chicken sandwich Chicken and waffle sandwich Pulled pork platter Fried green tomato and pimento cheese sandwich Everyone enjoyed their food and said it was quite flavorful. My friend raves about the brussel sprouts. I had the fried green tomato sandwich and it was absolutely delicious albeit messy. Would highly recommend and definitely would order again. Traveling and saw some good reviews. Great vibe local place. Must be popular as lots of people knew each other. We had to wait a little but which was fine. Sat upstairs. Our waitress Kate was very friendly. She gave us some recommendations. The brisket was very good. The mashed potato's were the best a bit chunky and creamy at the same time. Mac & cheese pretty good. The only negative was the table bus girl came to wipe a table down near us. What looked like a really dirty rag was tossed and the table and the remains of food and beverage were smeared all around the table and in the floor. Kind of unsanitary looking. read more

Went because we saw reviews that raved about it. It's a great looking restaurant in the heart of downtown Harrisonburg. Location is great. Service was phenomenal. We ordered appetizers first which were a meal all on their own: brisket nachos and crab dip w the pita chips for an extra $1. The brisket on the nachos was tasty but there were way too many chips for the serving of meat included. The pita chips were greasy and the crab dip could be better, also a very small amount compared to the ratio of pita chips. Next day we were all still feeling the heaviness of the food and that's all we ordered for three people. It was very greasy food. May give them another opportunity where we order a main entree. read more
