Food was subpar. I ordered a steak and cheese. Came out in less than a minute. Must have been premade in the back. It wasn't great.

The hotel is clean, modern, and reasonably priced, but honestly, the real highlight is the Ridge Room. After a long day on the road, I really don't want to get back in the car to find dinner, so having a rooftop restaurant just steps from the room is perfect. The mountain views are great, and the farm-to-table menu is always interesting. We've eaten here several times, and it has never disappointed. The food is consistently good, and the bartenders know what they're doing--the drinks are just as solid as the meals. It's one of those places where the menu might not immediately grab you, but once you try the food, it all clicks. Definitely a spot we'll keep coming back to.

I heard great things about this place and was very enthusiastic to visit...however, though the food…read morewas pretty solid the service was quite lacking. I have found the front staff and the wait staff to be lacking in their consideration towards restaurant guests. It seems that they are picking and choosing whom they choose to grant a great experience to. Service: The front staff and waitress we had carried an air of attitude when dealing with me and my family. It seemed like they were not keen to accommodate a few of our basic requests which essentially boiled down to laziness. To be honest, they are very petty when it comes to getting a table on their rooftop...when my family (of 5) came in, they told us it was first come first serve and sat us inside. Another family came in with 3-4 adults and 2 kids after we were seated, to which they promptly moved them outside even though they were inside as well when a spot opened up. I'm not truly understanding the mentality of service here and frankly thought for a nice establishment there would be better decorum and attitude towards guests. Food: overall pretty good. I found the food and drink to be solid. In summary, the food is good here but doesn't surpass the service we received.

The space is urban chic with a moderate sized dining room and small bar. I would describe the menu as "upscale comfort". Elevated pork chop, meatloaf, pasta for example. At our table we ordered the swordfish nightly special, the wild mushroom pasta, the pork chops, and the potato croquette appetizer. All were beautifully plated and delicious. We also had two exceptional glasses of Chardonnay, and some beautiful cocktails. We enjoyed our evening. This is a great place for a special night out without needing to be fancy or fussy.

There was a heater, so we figured we could stand it. The hostess rearranged the tables to seat us close to the heater, and left menus. Soon a waitress came with water and took drink orders. Not long after she returned to take our food orders. While we were waiting for the food, someone brought us some warm blankets. All through our meal people kept checking to see whether we needed anything. It was the best service I have seen in a long time, and I arrange a bi-monthly lunch outing for a club I belong to. The food was delicious. The salmon sandwich was incredible, the burrata appetizer was to die for, and I wish everyone had such good French fries. Everyone enjoyed their food and the warm welcome from the staff on a not very warm day.

Our waitress (Karolain) was pleasant and the 2 stars are strictly for her. Came in no one was at the front to greet or seat us. Took about 10 minutes before someone noticed and sat us down. They were out of several sides-broccoli, asparagus and rice at 8pm -guess it was a busy day. So we had to settle with sides we didn't want. No big deal. Our plates were watery. My French onion soup that I ordered in a cup form came as a bowl. Just because they felt like being 'generous' however, it was lukewarm. So much so, the cheese wasn't melted. It was probably sitting in the kitchen and was an error order and they decided to give it to me. Thanks for the 'generosity'. Had to send it back to actually get warmed up. The most off putting part was 2 separate women vacuuming by our table. It was rude and unprofessional but I don't blame the workers, I blame Management for being okay with that. It felt like everyone was in a rush to go home and was essentially telling us to hurry up and leave. Management, do better-there's a dozen restaurants nearby to choose from that probably take Customer Satisfaction a little more seriously.

We ate in the bar - loved the vibe down there! The food was amazing! We started with salads - Caesar for the Hubby (as usual) and the Spring Salad for me (I subbed blue cheese for the goat cheese - I'm not a fan of goat cheese). Both salads were super fresh. They make their dressings in house and it shows. Ribeye rare for the Hubby and Filet mid-rare for me. We both had the crème fresh mashed potatoes. Steaks were cooked perfectly. And let me tell you, if you get anything, GET THE MASHED POTATOES!!! I swear these were the best I have ever had in my life. No joke - that includes my homemade and my Moms and Grandma's. Seriously. It's worthy to note that I asked for salt & pepper, as there was none on the table. It takes a really confident chef to not have salt & pepper on the table. So of course, I tasted first. I honestly did NOT use not one grain of either. The food didn't need it. Everything was seasoned perfectly! We ended the meal with crème brûlée, because if it's on the menu, we are ordering it. It was exceptional! Easily the second best we've ever had - and we've eaten a LOT of crème brûlée in our years. The service was absolutely spot on. We were visiting Harrisonburg for the weekend and after looking on Yelp for a good place to have…read moredinner on a Saturday night, we decided on Capital Ale House. Lots of prom kids and college students filled the place. We were quickly seated in a nice booth and Nate our server helped us with some stout beers. We had a milk stout and a caramel macchiato stout the latter of which was the best. Looking at the menu I have to say it was not your standard ale house fair. It was definitely "elevated" in this regard. We asked to split a 2 soft shell entree with broccolini & seasoned mash, a bowl of crab bisque and a pierogi sampler. We also asked for an extra plate, to which Nate said he would take care of it. When the food arrived it was divided perfectly. Nate had split the bowl of soup into 2 small bowls and he divided the entree and sides onto 2 plates. The soft shell crabs were HUGE, the largest I had ever seen, and crisply fried to perfection. The sides were equally exquisite in their flavor and preparation. The crab bisque was loaded with fresh lump crabmeat and perfectly seasoned. The pirogies were also excellent in flavor and presentation. It was the most satisfying meal I'd had in a while (could be because I was craving soft shells) Needless to say we were very happy with the food in every way and were stuffed as we asked for the check. Nate/Nathaniel really made the experience as he was highly attentive, though caring for many tables, and was quick to take care of our every need. The place was really rocking with customers and everyone there was having a great time. We'll definitely be back and let everyone we know what a top notch establishment Capital Ale House in Harrisonburg is.
