I went to Vito's for a business lunch. The food was absolutely out of this world. I got the Napolitano sandwich and a side salad. The sandwich was on the freshest bread with a delightfully crunchy chicken cutlet, homemade marinara, and melty mozzarella. The side salad was so fresh and cool with a delicious homemade ranch. My colleague got the goat cheese salad with chicken; which was marinated in balsamic and grilled to perfection. Our server was amazing and attentive and was really knowledgeable about the menu. The inside of the restaurant was nice enough to feel like an indulgent experience without feeling overwhelming or intimidating. Prices were so reasonable. And the best part: their table bread is the most delicious garlic knots covered in melted butter and cloves of garlic also served with the rich marinara. Will absolutely be returning! read more

We came across this restaurant on Google and took a chance based off the reviews. The atmosphere was kinda noisy and they were busy. We got on the wait list and it took about 15 mins before we were called to our table. Our server Zach was attentive and nice. We ordered our drinks and one appetizer. Well, let's start by saying the food was extremely a dime. My son ordered mozzarella sticks and they came out and some of the best and largest mozzarella sticks. I've ever seen the second thing we had was meatballs and I'm gonna put a picture of those in here, they were fantastic now we hadn't eaten since noon so we're quite hungry. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was fantastic. I loved it couldn't get it to eat at all, but he did eat all the chicken and they gotta have the biggest chickens in the world because this thing covered 3/4 of the dinner plate. Service was great cannot complain. We did sit at the bar, but we got to see them work and team work and now they work with each other. They're all talking while they were working, so it was kind of pleasant being from out of town. I would tell you that if you're looking for a nice place to go on a date or just to have dinner with a large group and you cannot be in the Harrisburg area come from Maryland. I wish we lived closer because there is nothing like this in a Montgomery County area ambience the boss and everything we were really really good so I highly suggest if you live in the area you need to go you don't live in the area and you're coming through. We decided to stop here. At first we weren't going to go because of some Yelp scores, but recent reviews have been positive so maybe something changed. We started off with mozzarella cheese sticks and calamari. The cheese sticks were what one would expect. The marinara sauce was a bit spicy - very good because we like spicy. The calamari was prepared well - crispy on the outside and not chewy on the inside. We then received garlic knots with marinara - had we known about them we probably would not have ordered both appetizers - but they too were very tasty. My wife had the make your own pasta (the special). They were very accommodating so that she could have spicy marinara and Alfredo. It was delicious. I had the Stromboli which was wonderful - the crust was perfectly prepared - golden brown but not overdone. The meat and cheeses were great. My son had the Soprano pizza which was pretty much like a 'supreme'. The crust was done just as it should have been and the toppings were very good. My daughter-in-law had the Verdi pizza which was a spinach pesto type Pizza and it was really good - I was skeptical but it had a great flavor. We were amazed that the place had a waiting list on a Monday - typically the slowest night for restaurants, but that speaks to the food and the service. We were pleasantly surprised that everything from beverages to appetizers and entrees came out very timely. The portions are very generous - we had a LOT to take home with us. Our server was William and he was top notch - checking on us appropriately but not too much and taking care of our every need. I was impressed that he brought out some wrapped up pizza dough for my young grandson to play with (like silly putty) while we waited for the food. After a long conference day I wanted to find a nice restaurant for my colleague and I to enjoy in Harrisonburg on our last night. After reviewing Yelp reviews, we decided to come and we are glad we did. Let's talk about the wonderful customer service. Upon arrival, the hostess was extremely friendly and our reservation was honored on time. We were seated at a nice booth and our waitresses came over to greet us. She was so kind and offered recommendations. We started with the Garlic Knots. Let me just say this...."They were delicious!" We thought about getting a second helping but we wanted to save room for our appetizers and entrees. We enjoyed Mozzarella Sticks for appetizers, side salads, and the Chicken Parmesan for entrees. When we're in Harrisonburg we don't have to think about where we're going for dinner: Vito's! They've got the formula for a successful restaurant: excellent food, affordable prices, daily specials, happy hour discounts and on-the-ball staff, all capped off with a lovely outdoor patio. We took advantage of the Tuesday night pizza special. What a deal! $25 for two salads, two drinks (could be wine, beer or whatever), a large one-topping pizza and a shared dessert. Where I am in Georgia, every kokemamy place touts "NY Style Pizza!" It never is. (I'm a New Yorker.) They don't make claims at Vito's ... but son-of-a-gun, they could. While there could be a bit more pepperoni on the pie, it's delicious, with the right ratio of cheese and sauce to crust. For dessert we had a choice, and opted for strawberry cheesecake thinking there's more to share than if we get a cannoli. The cheesecake was as good as any I've had at Junior's (the mecca for cheesecake in NY.) If you go midweek, you can probably get by without a reservation. On the weekend you may not be as lucky. Let me preface this review with the statement that I'm a big fan of Vito's and have been a regular customer there since he opened. It is 1 of the top 3 restaurants in Harrisonburg in quality, consistency, service & value. But last night (3/26/25) I attended a specialty dinner night (Wines of Spain) and walked away shockingly disappointed and quite honestly, feeling ripped off. After taxes and tip, the bill was nearly $170 for 2...nearly double what I would pay for a regular dinner there. What we got for that amount was minuscule food portions, extremely light pours of the paired wines (doubtful that all 4 equaled 2 normal pours) and a laughable dessert...a small tray of Italian Torrone candies (about 10 sugar cube-sized pieces with 1 garnish of orange slice) meant for a table of 4 people!! So, so disappointing. I will continue to go to Vito's, but as a regular customer and never again attend a "specialty dinner"...not worth it!! read more

We are from the Hampton Roads area and visiting our daughter who works in Harrisonburg. Earlier today we saw that this place was busy, including some fire fighters. It's a smart thing to go with the places being patronized by cops and fire personnel. We decided to come back later and were so happy we did. We had dinner here on Mon. 9/12/22 5pm. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel, Double Tree by Hilton. Their courtesy car driver was familiar with the location near James Madison U. and brought us there in 10 min. We also checked out their website ahead. Well Monday Pasta Special was just what we were looking for after a day of exploring. For $10.95 you can choose from 6 pastas, 6 sauces, & your choice of two toppings from 25+ choices of meat, olives, peppers, cheese, etc (think pizza toppings). And if that's not enough incentive also on Mondays it's 1/2 off bottles of vino. What's not to like? Vito's is not a chain. This is authentic cooked to order Italian fare. There are specials on every day. They also have a market & deli next door. We sat at the bar and ordered a beer ($6) & a wine ($7) while make our dinner choices. My bride had angel hair pasta w/ pesto, chicken & fresh mozzarella. The portion was full dinner size & she took more than half back to our room. I had bucatini w/ spicy marinara, sweet Italian sausage, & kalamata olives. Again a generous portion. Very tasty marinara & al dente pasta. Full disclosure: I ate in all. LOL. It was a great first impression at Vito's. Our service was excellent. Bartender T was always checking on us even while cashing out all the take away orders. Very busy place on this Monday. It seems that they have built a brand and customer loyalty because of the food & the service. Specials everyday for lunch & dinner. 5 STAR REVIEW Look, it's typical Italian food in a strip mall right across from a university in a college town. This is to say it's not super swanky or anything. But it is nice. It is clean and the decor was so perfectly tasteful for all things considered. We stopped here on the road home knowing that there should be some good restaurants in the nearest college town, in our case Harrisonburg, VA and James Madison University. They did not disappoint. The food was very clean, fresh, tasteful and clearly freshly prepared. They lacked a vegetarian/vegan menu but I ordered Seagan. The staff was very friendly and since she did not have an answer, she talked to the manager who had an excellent suggestion. (Apparently one that they had offered before based on my perception) I brought my leftovers with me because I ate the entire salad!! My family & I were here for my daughter's 2022 graduation. We had a party of 5. We couldn't get reservations at a few other places in town , BUT we got one here! I think we now know why! FOUR of the 5 of us got severely sick the next morning (Sun) or on Monday. It lasted for 2 days before most of us felt somewhat better. Stomach nausea , craps, diarrhea , throwing up, headache.... can anyone say FOOD POISONING? I also had a slight fever for 24 hours. The stomach nausea has lasted for 3 days & counting. I have learned dozens & dozens of others that "dined" there the night of graduation suffered the same fate. The JMU Parent Facebook page is filled with stories of the same complaint! Several dozen people have made the same complaint. One person requested a food inspector visit & allegedly one did. The word we got is that they passed inspection? Well I guess all the tainted , old, spoiled food (we suspect the salads, the red sauce , or the seafood in the pasta dish, which many of us had in our group) had been conveniently passed on to us or disposed of after the busy night! You would think the restaurant would own the mistake & at least apologize for ruining such a great event with so many of the same complaints on the same night.... BUT oh no, not Vito's! They gleefully claim no fault after the inspector gave them a mulligan, supposedly found nothing wrong. "Not our fault, we were cleared" was basically their response. I'm surprised they didn't blame Putin! They are either incompetent or just figured they could dump the bad food on all the grads & families, estimating none of us would ever be back anyway. The Townies were spared, poison the out of town visitors & make a killing on the busiest night this dump will have this year. Frankly, I felt the food was mediocre at best anyway. Ragu would have been a better sauce, the salads were a joke, & the bread was wretched. I would never eat at this place again! They could offer free meals & I'd pass. We finally tried this restaurant after hearing so many good things about it. Let me start by saying that the 3 stars is for the food and not the staff. We stopped by at 8:30 on a Saturday night starving. Our last meal was at 11:30 am that morning. So you know when you're starving everything usually tastes delicious... We ordered Calamari for starters and was asked how we wanted it cooked. We were taken aback as we've never been asked that before. The waitress recommended getting crispy, so we did. It was good but won't probably get crispy again. It was over cooked. We then ordered Half of a Caesar salad, the linguini with white clam sauce, and the 12" Godfather pizza. The Caesar salad came 10 minutes after the pasta and pizza. It was swimming in Caesar dressing. Needless to say, it wasn't consumed. The linguini was okay but I spent maybe 3 minutes taking tons of sliced garlic about a quarter of a head of garlic. The pizza was good especially the crust except the meatballs was a turn off, not appetizing at all. Would we go back? Maybe because we like to give second chances. read more
