    Vegetable Beef soup
    Patrick K.

Good ole comfort food with lots of gravy smothered in top. It's a taste of the old fashion, served fast, cafeteria-style, in old school plates, cups and trays . Meatloaf is everything you want. Beef veggie soup brings you back. This place is a gem.

Once we were seated, I was shocked that they didn't offer or ask if a high chair was needed for my 2 year old. I am used to most places asking when they see small children. I saw the high chairs and just grabbed one myself. The waitress did acknowledge us once we sat down and let us know she would be back shortly. No problem, gave us some extra time to finalize what we wanted. We had 2 kids, 2 adults in our party. I ordered the caramel latte with cold foam, mom ordered a coffee, kids got a lemonade and also a strawberry lemonade. The strawberry lemonade is really good. The latte I ordered itself was pretty good but the cold foam threw me off because it wasn't sweet, it tasted like pure heavy whipping cream thickened. I added Splenda to the top to make that taste like something. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose. For food we had Sticky Chicken which is fried chicken between French toast and it's supposed to have sriracha on the chicken and maple glaze on top, mom ordered steakhouse omelette and the kids did eggs & bacon; French toast and bacon. My mom didn't enjoy her food at all, the filling was not much and she said it tasted very bland. The scrambled eggs for one of the kids also wasn't enjoyable. I didn't try the eggs but can only go off of their word and barely eaten plates. The chicken in my meal was pretty good, the French toast is on thick slices of bread. It was overall okay. I also had grits and they're made mill grits style in case you're a fan or not of that texture of grits. We had to ask for silverware, as did the table next to us I noticed. The waitress was nice nasty in way. Where she tried to be nice with a hint of rudeness, but she could've been just having an off day. We asked for more splenda for my mom's coffee. She never bought it. I got up and grabbed some from another table because we figured she wasn't going to do it. When it was time to pay, she did go over the items first to confirm if everything was good to go, but her delivery and rushing of it was off putting. Like she walked up and didn't ask if we were ready for the check, she just said okay who's taking care of the bill or is it split or together with her card reader. I felt like I had to rush to go ahead and grab my wallet to pay and it was a little intimidating how she stared during the tipping part of it, which I was going to tip regardless of the lackluster service. Overall it seems like this could be a hit or miss place. I probably wouldn't go back but definitely think others should form their own opinions from their own experience

I think it was because they enjoyed working there. Or, at least it give them a chance to eat some really tasty food. I had their Cubano Tartine. That's kind of like an omelet with the ingredients of a Cubano sandwich, except for the roll, mixed in. (And yes, I get that the cooking process is a bit different.) ' Anyway, this Cubano Tartine shows up on a plate in front of me. I dig in and keep digging. The ingredients, ham, cheese, pickles, etc, were plentiful and delicious. They were sitting on an ample slice of their sourdough bread. That was the first issue. It was IMPOSSIBLE to cut. I guess I could have asked for a steak knife or maybe a power tool. But, there was so much other stuff that I was able to have a very filling meal without it. The other issue was that the lightly dressed side salad was doused in dressing. Again, didn't complain because, for me, it wasn't a problem during this visit. Issues aside, if I come back to Hagerstown, I'll look for an excuse to come back.

The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.
