    Sticky chicken and grits
    Delilah B.

Went to visit here for breakfast based on closeness to Massanutten Resort area and high reviews. The wait wasn't too bad, about 20 minutes. Once we were seated, I was shocked that they didn't offer or ask if a high chair was needed for my 2 year old. I am used to most places asking when they see small children. I saw the high chairs and just grabbed one myself. The waitress did acknowledge us once we sat down and let us know she would be back shortly. No problem, gave us some extra time to finalize what we wanted. We had 2 kids, 2 adults in our party. I ordered the caramel latte with cold foam, mom ordered a coffee, kids got a lemonade and also a strawberry lemonade. The strawberry lemonade is really good. The latte I ordered itself was pretty good but the cold foam threw me off because it wasn't sweet, it tasted like pure heavy whipping cream thickened. I added Splenda to the top to make that taste like something. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose. For food we had Sticky Chicken which is fried chicken between French toast and it's supposed to have sriracha on the chicken and maple glaze on top, mom ordered steakhouse omelette and the kids did eggs & bacon; French toast and bacon. My mom didn't enjoy her food at all, the filling was not much and she said it tasted very bland. The scrambled eggs for one of the kids also wasn't enjoyable. I didn't try the eggs but can only go off of their word and barely eaten plates. The chicken in my meal was pretty good, the French toast is on thick slices of bread. It was overall okay. I also had grits and they're made mill grits style in case you're a fan or not of that texture of grits. We had to ask for silverware, as did the table next to us I noticed. The waitress was nice nasty in way. Where she tried to be nice with a hint of rudeness, but she could've been just having an off day. We asked for more splenda for my mom's coffee. She never bought it. I got up and grabbed some from another table because we figured she wasn't going to do it. When it was time to pay, she did go over the items first to confirm if everything was good to go, but her delivery and rushing of it was off putting. Like she walked up and didn't ask if we were ready for the check, she just said okay who's taking care of the bill or is it split or together with her card reader. I felt like I had to rush to go ahead and grab my wallet to pay and it was a little intimidating how she stared during the tipping part of it, which I was going to tip regardless of the lackluster service. Overall it seems like this could be a hit or miss place. I probably wouldn't go back but definitely think others should form their own opinions from their own experience

I went to Thunderbird Café for breakfast and it was soooo good! I got a waffle and it was amazing. It was warm and fluffy and tasted super yummy. I think it was one of the best waffles I ever had. The server was nice. I also liked the ambience because it felt cozy and happy inside. The only thing is it was kind of expensive, but the food was so good that I didn't even mind that much. I would totally go there again for waffles!

Large portions! Service was super quick and it was packed... server was very nice, was greeted upon arrival and food arrives quickly to table. I would make sure you double check the menu for the add on's they have with there main meals..but other than that. 10/10 recommend for breakfast!

If you're looking for a breakfast spot around Massanutten Resort, this one has everything you need. Menu has all kinds of breakfast items and cool variations like a pancake taco. Love the diner-style ambiance. For sure it gets busy so expect a little bit of a wait. & I agree with some of the other reviewers that prices are a little up there. Comparing my own photos of the menu to older versions looks like that have made big pricing adjustments.

Great breakfast place. Unfortunately Massanutten ski resort does not serve breakfast during the week so we found the Phoenix diner which is a real gem food is Delicious and the service is great.

Sausage biscuits and gravy, wish I could stock in my freezer, so good!

This place is super popular and I can see why. The menu isn't huge but it's got some heavy hitters for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Don't expect too much healthy options here but you could get an omelet with veggies and cheese and be very happy. Expect some wait times but they move tables pretty quickly. I'm surprised they don't leave coffee carafes at the table but service was consistent and pleasant. I had the sausage and biscuits and yes- the biscuits ARE that special. It's rare you get a fluffy huge buttery biscuit that's really as good as they say but yeah worth getting some to freeze. The sausage gravy was well balanced but I think maybe getting old. Our whole table was well fed. Expect to pay premium prices for everything, but getting an espresso martini with breakfast is a lovely experience! Would stop again anytime.

What a great find in the area. We were told our wait would be 40 minutes, but it ended up taking only 20 minutes for our table of ten. Cute decor! Kids seemed happy with their kids menu option. I never had a burger in a sandwich wedge, but it worked well together! The corn beef was also delicious. Our server got everything in our order right, and the food came out fairly quickly even though the place was packed.

The majority of my family (9 of us) stopped by the Thunderbird around 9am on a Sunday morning. When we arrived in town the day before and I spotted the Thunderbird and felt that was a place we should certainly visit. I'm glad that we did. Service was truly outstanding. Our waitress was amazing and attentive. The restaurant is a decent size but not huge. I was surprised they were able to accommodate our party of nine. I had the sausage with two eggs over medium, a biscuit, and home fries. Food was fantastic and everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. I highly recommend the Thunderbird for breakfast or lunch. Great place!

    The garbage and sticky chicken.

Loved the style of this vintage diner with traditional American breakfast foods. The waitress was great and attentive and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced and you can look outside at the mountains of Massanutten.

    Omelet platter.

Food was excellent. Service was a little weird. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, it took way too long for someone to acknowledge we were waiting to be seated (we almost left), and then it took way too long for the waitress to make an initial appearance at our table. However, once the waitress appeared at our table, everything went fine. I think they were understaffed. My dining companion noted that the omelet was overstuffed, which is a good thing. Eggs are cheaper than the filling, so she felt like she got a very good value for her money. Last time we were there was a few years ago, and it felt like it has a different vibe now. Maybe it's under new ownership. Total for three chocolate chip pancakes and an omelet platter was $26.40 cash, not including tip.

I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic. But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Definitely a good place to pop in for a quick lunch, get snackies to go, or even grab a bunch of bagels and sides for a party or meeting.
