Sometimes finding the perfect meal or snack is about using Yelp to it's fullest. And sometimes, in…read moresmall towns, it's about knowing the right people. This is one of those moments. I was in what SEEMED to be the middle of Nowhere,VA recently, doing some fire department things. I caught up with a department friend who lives in the area, who decided lunch would be at Mr. J's Elkton Express. I wasn't skeptical, but I also wasn't optimistic. But I do trust Tim, so off we went. What a lovely surprise! A lot of their menu seems focused on bagels, so count me in! Though I'm marginally a bagel snob, as I worked in NYC for many years. But my breakfast sandwich, on a toasted Everything, was incredible. Coffee was tops, too. Small town feel. Even though people didn't know each other, there was chit chat, friendly banter, the type of community and connection that seems sorta cliche but is so very heartwarming in person. So. Great service. Excellent bagels and sandwiches. Pretty good coffee. Zero complaints. Definitely a good place to pop in for a quick lunch, get snackies to go, or even grab a bunch of bagels and sides for a party or meeting.

The service was great; the staff is so sweet! The bagels are delicious and fresh. The best thing I have ever had was their bagel bites...literally every flavor they have is amazing but the French toast ones are like little bites of heaven! Cute local place I would definitely visit again!

There is parallel street parking in front of the store and also nearby. Their FB page says that they have a minimum of 24 flavors at any given time, and some of the flavors switch out. We got coffee, chocolate chip cookie dough, and coconut almond chocolate chip ice cream flavors -- all three were delicious! The coffee flavor was strong and perfectly sweet. Prices are very reasonable! If you just want a single flavor, I actually recommend getting 1 scoop - the portion size was honestly similar to the 2 scoops in the end so it seems like a better deal to me. If you want different flavors, go for the 2 scoops or more. You can sample different flavors in store. My only negative is that I don't believe the ice cream is made in-house -- looks like it might be sourced from Hershey's according to their ice cream containers. Still tasty though and if I'm ever in the area again, I'd come back! The employee was wearing a mask.

I was the only person in there. I'm surprised that the people of Elkton don't seem to know what a gem they have in this little business. They also serve a real English tea without reservations. And their prices were so reasonable. Wish they were down here in Charleston. I'd be there all the time. Good luck.

Introduction to Massanutten in April 2024 trip:…read more Representing 2nd of 2 in scrapbook series from April 2024 is Market at Massanutten Station. One week after Rochester, NY total solar eclipse trip, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, my friend messaged me who has timeshares, and invited my girlfriend & I to go to Massanutten for cheap anytime between Monday & Friday, April 22-26. The group had the perhaps 4 rooms booked, but they all left Sunday or Monday. He said it would just be the two of us getting to go. I called my g/f, and figured out when we could possibly go. It was a bit last minute, we left on Wednesday & came back Friday night. I took off Thurs-Friday off work; my manager was annoyed it was kind of last minute, but it was a great trip in spite of just getting back from Rochester 2 weeks earlier. Prior Massanutten Trip & Visit to the Market in March 2023: We visited the Market for possible souvenir(s), but this wasn't my 1st visit to Massanutten or this market. Just over a year earlier in March 2023, that same friend with the timeshares, invited me, and it was a nice group trip. I happened to have work travel down near that way on the Monday, took off on the Tuesday & Wednesday in that case, & came back the Wednesday night. At that time, I was casually dating a woman who loved panda bears and demanded that I get her something from Massanutten since she had never been there before. My ex-girlfriend, who I was friends with, and I were looking in the surprisingly large souvenir shop near where the indoor pool & community center is. The store was well laid out, not just with souvenirs, but also staples like snacks, drinks, coffee, & perhaps the most important staple of all, a wide variety of wines. As a whole, prices are relatively reasonable in the market, and the staff is nice. I told my ex about the woman I was dating and how she wanted something. I asked what she thought of the refrigerator magnet, and she said it's not bad and depends on how I feel about her. I was honest saying it's kind of lukewarm, and she said you're fine then. So, I went with it. Panda Bear Lover's Reaction in May 2023: She finally was able to make the trek up to my home in Maryland; we lived over 40 miles apart. That was when her Massanutten souvenir would be given. Ultimately, I determined from her overnight visit, she had pissed me off for several reasons plus I was 4 dates in with someone else, who I felt better about, and ended up being a girlfriend briefly in summer 2023; so it was our last date. The thing that pissed me off relevant to Massanutten was while we were driving to dinner, and she actually said that Massanutten gift better not be some keychain. I was taken aback and was thinking refrigerator magnet was about the equivalent to keychain and thought it was ridiculous to be so demanding. So, when I gave her the fridge magnet, she half-heartedly thanked but said it was weak. The next day she determined it wasn't working out, which I whole-heartedly agreed. In spite of the "weak fridge magnet", she grabbed it off my coffee table before heading out. So, she probably still has in her scrap-box of prior dates. For 11 months, I was annoyed by losing the fridge magnet. I even told my girlfriend about this story leading up to Massanutten trip, which she thought that woman was ridiculous. April 2024 visit to the Market: My g/f & I visited the market, and I ended up getting a fridge market I liked better, which is still on my fridge today. Conclusions: Great variety of items from staples to various souvenirs, a nice staff. In addition to the fridge magnet saga, on the 1st trip in March 2023, I also bought a Massanutten T-shirt, which I still like wearing.

It's pricey but fine overall. The variety is good overall but not quite as good as the general…read morestore. Closing at 9 is kinda dumb but everything on the resort does.

Saw this place Friday afternoon after a client visit and decided this places sounded interesting…read moreand wanted to stop for a lunch with the wife on a drive the next day. So stopped in around 2pm on Saturday and at first glance of prices you'd probably think hmm a bit high for a slider but its a pretty good deal 2 sliders a side and you get a free drink. Wife and I got 4 sliders the Chicken Bacon Ranch, the Prime Rib Burger, and the Honey Mustard Chicken BLT. with Potato Salad and Macaroni Salad and two teas. There is clearly a sign that says everything is made fresh to order and this is not Fast Food. Yes it took a while but we didn't care we weren't in a hurry and the picnic tables were nice and so was the weather. When the food was ready it was neatly packed on a tray, the whole time we could smell our food cooking and we could tell we were in for a treat. We dug in to the Chicken Bacon Ranch first and were delighted, it was delicious the rolls were nicely toasted and had a great buttery garlic flavor. Next cracked open the Prime Rib burger and it was well seasoned and delicious with the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, all were fresh delicious. Last was hands down our favorite as we have a palate for honey mustard and that was the Honey Mustard Chicken BLT. This was delicious I only got a few bites while my wife took the rest. Really can't complain about the sliders they were so good a meal is definitely 2 and a side as the sliders are of nice size and being sliders its nice to be able to have the ability to have various options for sandwiches to enjoy. Now if I had one complaint it would be the side salads they were generic nothing to write home about, edible not great, next time I think I would go with the fries as they are made to order and I absolutely believe that. Melissa is super friendly and hard working, I am glad I saw her place while driving through Elkton and was able to enjoy the food she is sharing, hopefully others will stop in and try her Sweet Tea and Sliders.
