Amazing! I visited for afternoon tea and it was incredibly good! If you consider yourself a coffee person (I do!) don't deny yourself the incredible change of pace that tea offers! You will get your caffeine, if needed (I need it!). The cafe is such a relaxing, quaint little place and the owner's mom was so sweet, helpful and incredibly attentive. I got the full tea service and did not regret a sip or bite! Seriously the best scone I've ever had! Lemon ginger

I was in town for work staying at hotel down the street and stumbled upon this gem. I loved it here so much. They had gluten free options and offered to change gloves and utensils. The waffle was absolutely amazing! The fruit fresh and delicious! And the tea was just lovely. I also got a gluten free blueberry muffin to go that I gobbled up for lunch. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating. The servers were so friendly, hospitable, and downright lovely. I think I'll go back tomorrow.

Fruit Waffles... perfect!

CoVid update: they have increased their outdoor seating area. The bake goods list is posted on the front door. A wait staff will come out to take your order or you can call in your order ahead of time. The bathrooms are closed. The city has provided a porta potty located in the back of the building. So don't try to go in the building for now. Food is still amazing and freshly made daily!

Tuck on the side of a building is this cute little bakery & cafe. You can tell everything is made with love and care. The staff are very nice. The special of the day sandwich (a Caprese type sandwich) didn't "wow" me, but was still pretty good. The chips seemed to be the multigrain ones you can buy at Costco (not complaining, but not what I expected). I still want to try their breakfast & pastries, but I feel like there may be better stops for more generous prices with just as fresh food for lunch. All in all, it was just okay but I'd still like to come back because maybe it was just what I ordered.

I hate to leave bad reviews, but last year I ordered a cake for my moms birthday, and it was beautifully decorated and had lots of flowers on it, icing design all around it. This is a photo of the cake I just picked up. It's like they just stopped trying halfway across the cake? And they charged me full price for this- I was so embarrassed when I presented. It looked like a 6 year old decorated - I expect so much more from a custom order for a bakery.

I've tried almost everything on their breakfast menu and loved it all!! Never have any complaints and their staff is so friendly.

Granola with yogurt, 2 iced coffees, and the Belgian waffle.

Visited 6/25/2021: We stopped into Heritage Bakery & Cafe hoping to grab some pastries to take back to our hotel, but they only had scones which was a disappointment to us given the photos we've seen online of their bakes. But it wasn't a huge deal, so we ordered food to enjoy in the cafe. I had a bowl of granola, yogurt, and fruit. It was a generously-sized portion and their homemade granola was delicious; they served the bowl drizzled with honey and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Except for bananas, I was disappointed that my bowl didn't have bananas on it, but there was plenty of berries on top to keep me satisfied. My husband ordered the Belgian waffle and from the one bite of it I had, it was incredible. Super fluffy with a nice crispy exterior, it was everything you could wish from a Belgian waffle. It was served with syrup on the side and was mounded with fresh fruit. The set-up inside is really cute, and behind the counter, the open kitchen looks like a little old lady's kitchen. The young people working there were helpful and friendly, but we felt awkward in there. They were all talking and laughing and it felt like we had walked in on a private conversation. I don't know, we just didn't feel super welcomed. Our iced coffees were good, and they had soy milk available for us, but I wish they had more of an interesting coffee bar selection. Not a deal-breaker though because they don't obviously advertise themselves as a coffee shop. Also, I think their signage could be a bit better and more clear. Their menu board is on the right side of the counter and it's hard to crane your neck to see everything they have available quickly with other people behind you waiting to order. We also weren't sure if we were supposed to leave our dirty plates on the table or bring them back up to the counter since it wasn't really a sit-down table service situation. None of these should be a deal-breaker though, and I would certainly visit them again next time I'm in Harrisonburg.

The worlds most beautiful cakes at this great bakery/coffee shop! Stopped here for coffee and loved it. Great friendly folks, too!

This little place has the worlds most beautiful cakes! The photo I'm attaching doesn't do them justice, alas. But everything we had there - the blueberry Bundt cake and the avocado toast - was excellent (and very artistic looking). Super nice staff, too!

The place quite and staff was very nice and friendly. The food was great I had salmon lox and my son had the GF beligum waffle with fruit. Everything was amazing The dozes was beautiful to eat off of and look at. Definitely go back to again.

I simply feel this is a hidden gem, and a treasure to have in Harrisonburg. I'm glad to know and have the opportunity to visit this cafe. Beautiful, and really puts in what downtown Harrisonburg doesn't seem to already have in its points of food and business. Presently, it meets the coffee and tea expectation with a splash of southern appeal and class.

We stopped by here while in town on a Saturday Morning. They had a nice outdoor eating area with a small indoor dining area as well. The Croissant Breakfast Sandwich was very good and not too heavy. The Blueberry muffin had a different taste than we were used to but still was very good. I would definitely recommend Heritage Bakery & Cafe.

This place was A-OK! I guess the hype was real. We stopped here on our first time in H'burg, and basically drive straight to it. The parking lot at S Federal and E Bruce was handy, and although it's not huge, we managed the last spot before heading over to the visitor center where the cafe is located. The whole building is quaint and charming, but wait until you see the cafe-it's cuteness overload! No more than 10 small tables inside and a handful in the outdoor patio area, and the self-service water/condiments section was also charming. I believe the baked goods are prepared fresh daily and they sell out some things by mid-afternoon. But we were here for lunch, specifically their curry chicken. So was it worth the almost 100-mile drive?? Well, they sold out! We settled for other things on the menu: - Egg salad on croissant: YUM. I probably needed 2-4 of these, which says something about the portion size, but at least I wasn't hungry anymore. Two options for sides, and I chose kale salad. Fresh (I believe locally sourced) kale chopped and tossed in light sweet vinegar dressing, this was GOOD. 4.5/5 - Fresh mozzarella: I believe it was served on a toasted focaccia, and the pesto and tomatoes blended complemented the whole thing. Corn chips on the side for this one, and they were good, although cant beat the kale salad! 5/5 How could we come all the way here and not pick up at least one baked goodie? We got the pumpkin chocolate chip cake, and it was this moist, chocolatey perfection with a nutty finish. Yum! The service was great, and this one particular staff was very friendly and helpful, and made us first-time visitors feel welcome. Oh I also appreciated the umbrella for the outdoor table. All in all, I wish the portion size was a little bigger, but that egg salad on croissant was otherwise tops. I'm daydreaming now.

Being the mom of a freshman who is 3hrs away learning how to navigate special days where you can't be present is new and can be a challenge. Of course I sent a care package full of treats, but I wanted her to also have something fresh. I ordered a box that came with six cupcakes, two cookies and half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries. This was a large enough box for her to share with her friends (highly doubt this happened. My girl loves sweets lol) or to keep her satisfied all weekend lol. Ordering was easy and delivery was a breeze. They checked in with me the day before to confirm the delivery time and even snapped a really cute picture of her holding her surprise. I definitely plan on visiting them in person on my next visit to the Burg. If you're looking for a few sweet treats, I'd highly recommend Sweet Joy's.

Would I drive 7 hours just to pick up a order from this bakery? If you hesitate even a second with…read morehow to answer, we can't be friends. I love-love-love some pastries. Scones, cookies, tarts, doughnuts, just keep the carbs and sugar coming. And upon my last visit to the Burg, I walked up on this place. Upon discovering that you have to place orders ahead of time (for a Friday/Saturday pickup), I immediately added a reminder note to place a order before returning. Thus my first interaction with the team here. Due to other commitments on Friday, and leaving early on Saturday, I knew if a Thursday pickup wasn't a option then I would not be enjoying anything. I sent a email and within 24 hours Alicia responded and graciously said they could make it work. Then, I just started clicking. 2 of this, 1 of that, wait what flavors are those? I might of been a touch hungry while ordering, but honestly that wouldn't have made a difference. Knowing the two doing the baking (take a moment to read the "About Us" page) and what they offered (e.g. butterscotch bourbon oatmeal cream pie, cinnamon streusel coffee cake, gooey butter cookies, sugar cookies-with sprinkles, strawberry lemon scones...wait, this was my order I picked up!), I came with a high level of anticipation. I walked up to the window, rang the bell, and held my breath. What if they had forgotten me? What if my order had somehow disappeared between Augusta and the Burg? What if...almost immediately Alicia opened the service window. My order was boxed and ready to go. No disrespect to the photos they share on social media handles, but that is just not enough to fully prepare one for the sight awaiting in that clear top on the box. The multi colors of the sugar cookie, the thickness and weight of the oatmeal cream pies (yes, I ordered 2), and of course the heavenly aroma of it all as one deeply inhales. To save myself the embarrassment of shamelessly eating everything like Cookie Monster in the Nabisco factory, I waited till I was alone to open this treasure trove of goodness. The butterscotch and bourbon, they go together like the final couple of a dating series finale. I am soooo glad I didn't eat a meal before this. That alone almost took me out for the afternoon. Again, the heftiness of the pie is a baking wonder. But oh the moistness (no, I am not afraid to use that word) of the pie and the creme. You don't need milk or coffee to wash it down. But I do suggest a cup of something on hand as you might choke inhaling it with such a swiftness. Then the cookie samples began. My compliment? Everything; flavor, texture, airness. My complaint? Not purchasing more. There should be a nudge that pops up on anything you only order one of that reads, "Are you sure you only want one?" But I digress. And also take a nap. Can't wait for my next order in March. I will add that they do walk up items that do not require pre order. They also have a far more extensive list of pastries (sweet and savory), breads, and custom cakes that you can order. If you are anywhere near Harrisonburg (home or passing through), treat yourself!

They don't gave thousands of dishes but every dish is thoughtful and each ingredient necessary to pull off the perfect bite. I think the fig pig tartine might be one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The fig jam on freshly baked sourdough with fresh prosciutto and white cheddar, nutty arugula and the perfect sprinkle of lemon jest completes the dance in your palate. It's a must get. If you want something hearty... the sweet and hot breakfast biscuit will hit the spot. The jalapeño mixed with pear jam on a freshly baked biscuit... and the gooey white cheddar... so so good!
