We were staying in Elkton and wanted to find a place for breakfast before heading on the road. C & S fit the bill. There are a lot of places closed on Monday but they were open. As others stated, this place is beloved by locals. 90% of the patrons know each other and the staff. Everyone seemed friendly enough. Inside this is a basic diner. It was my wife, youngest son and I. We were promptly seated. I had the two eggs, toast, and meat. I added the home fries. Breakfast was very good. My wife had a sandwich and my son had M&M pancakes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It took about 20 minutes to get our meals. My only knock which is minor,I didn't get an itemized receipt. Our meals came to $36.00 which appeared to be slightly more than the menu prices. If in the area, Id probably stop again for a solid, no frills breakfast. read more

Service was pretty slow, everything was either cold, undercooked or burnt. Not sure how they managed to succeed in all three of those at once. Menu had many typos, probably could've been first red flag haha. Drinks tasted very dirty, gross- including water, soda, etc. Nasty fountain probably uncleaned. This a local place where locals eat. Visit here for breakfast and eavesdrop on all the conversations. Girlfriends dishing about recent break-ups? Check. Everyone's favorite middle school teacher greeting everyone walking in? Check. Old men doing what old men do at local diners? Check. This no frills place works with a very efficient skeleton crew. Usually one waitress who is hustling and remembers every regular's order. So, you may have a short wait for service at times, but there's always someone to watch or listen too. For a local basic fare place, they do have a couple of different dishes. I'm a fan of the Country Breakfast bowl which essentially just takes your breakfast platter and layers it in a bowl. Hubs likes the salmon cakes with a couple of over easy eggs. Whether you live close by or are visiting Massanutten Resort, this little place is worth a visit for an inexpensive breakfast. read more

We were kicked out of this establishment due to the cook "wanting to leave early" and wasn't willing to serve until the actual closing time. And the awful waiter kept telling us how long it was going to be until the food would be ready. Then she just told us to leave. I DO NOT recommend this hole in the wall to anyone!! read more

My wife, our friends and I were looking to have breakfast at a local restaurant on our way home from Massanutten. When we visit an area we look for a local place to have breakfast and found C&S. What a nice, friendly and welcoming restaurant with great food and very reasonable prices. The owner and her grandson were so nice and we loved spending time there; and no masks required! Old fashioned diner with basic menus, but the food was good! Always eat where locals eat when away from home!

Great small time diner. We loved listening to locals talk about farming and who was and wasn't there today etc. I had a BLT and the tomatoes were so delicious, thick cuts and definitely home grown. When you are visiting a town you can't go wrong following the locals! We will definitely stop by again on our next visit to town. read more

This place is gross. I would never go back. I understand it is a mom and pop diner, but it really is gross. We had ants crawling in and out of our syrup jar, roaches in the bathroom and the carpets are FILTHY! Not really sure how they stay in business. Positive note....love that they have armed forces memorabilia. read more

This place blows they straight up scammed me and my friends out of 30 bucks because we didn't pay enough the lady looked like she was about to have a hesrt attack running after our cars for her 30 extra dollars for anonymous charges and fees( probably for cigarettes) this is about as honest as it gets this place is a scam and they try to get you to pay with card so you don't see the charge right away dissipointed that it was so bad it looked mid from the outside but the workers are horriable not to mention curing us out on the way out for not paying into there scam I can only imagine how much they have taken from inniocent people read more

My girlfriend and I love to stop at small mom and pop places so we stopped here December 2015. I got vegetable soup and a grilled cheese and she had a chicken salad. Sadly my soup tasted like it had just come out of a Campbell's can...but the worst part was that my girlfriends salad had a cockroach in it. Not only was it a bug, but it was still alive and moving. Which means this place is so infested that in the 15 minutes between ordering and getting our food that a bug managed to crawl into the meal. We immediately complained and left after paying for everything except her food. Needless to say we won't be returning. read more

First off, I wish I could leave zero stars. From the moment we walked in it was clear we were not wanted there. This was obviously our first time, both the waitress and waiter both saw us and didn't bother to say anything to us. After standing for a couple seconds we asked the waiter if we can just sit anywhere, he just nodded, not saying anything or handing us menus. He stood around casually talking to someone for 5-10 minutes before even bringing us our menus. Anything he brought to the table he rudely just threw down in front of us, half mumbled his responses, and over the course of an hour checked on us once. When we finally went up to ask what was taking so long he stumbled, couldn't even look at us, and went to check. He didn't apologize about the wait or ask if he could get us anything, and then blamed it on another families order being too large. The family was THREE people. And yes while this is a small diner, it does not take over 50 mins to only bring out one small families food and no one else's. When we'd had enough of the staffs rude behavior, we went up to tell them we would only be paying for the drinks. Waiter said okay and immediately ran into the back to tell the chef or whoever, instead of trying to rectify the situation or apologize. The other waitress just watched and didn't do anything. Don't go here unless you're a local who's very close friends to the staff because they'll treat you like a nuisance and make it very clear you're not welcome. Alright, I've been in food service for three years now and the staff was inexcusable. None of the staff bothered to help us, they'd stare, but refused to say anything to us until we spoke to them. Wish I could say I tried the food, but we sat there for 50 minutes with only one drink order. The waiter was a jerk straight up. He didn't give menus when we came in, we only got those 5 minutes after sitting down (with nearly no one else in the place). Coffee was garbage, I'm not even picky, but it was burnt water that also had a hair in it. He said "you want creamer?", in a mumbled, quiet voice, And hamphazardly threw down 6 creamers after we said yes. Straws came in out in the same way. After about 35 minutes of waiting, I stood to ask him what's the hold up on our food. He stumbled, saying "oh we had a big order when you came in". Sorry, one 3 person family is not a big order. Listen, I get it's a small diner, but my grandma could have made that food faster. After I complained, another frustrated gentleman spoke up and said "I'd like some food too" and the waiter rudely replied "I know your momma raised you to be more polite", (let it be noted, the waiter was about 40 years younger than the man) the man replied "I haven't even gotten a menu yet." Finally when we decided to leave and pay for our drinks only, we came up and he said "okay" and turned around and walked away. No efforts to apologize or anything resembling it. Other waitress also couldn't be asked to do anything to reictify the situation. Waiter just hung around and was only friendly to the locals/regulars and ignored everyone else in the shop. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant before, I really don't care if my food takes a long time, but if you're going to be rude about it, you don't deserve my money. If you're not showing any respect to my face, what are you going to do to my food? You want the homey diner feeling, don't go here. read more
