The diner was close to our cabin in Stanley and it was a perfect choice. Very quick and simple before heading to Shenandoah. Highly recommend!!! And they only accept cash :)

If you want to experience authentic, rustic, and FANTASTIC food, you need to try this place. We were here for the first time and it was clearly a local spot, so it is fair to say we were noticed. Not sure how to feel about that, within just a few moments, we knew it was going to be great. The regulars engaged with us and started making recommendations from more than one table. As it turns out, the sausage gravy is in the top two I have ever enjoyed and I am 100% a gravy snob. Ha! The sausage is locally made and simply tastes heavenly. The biscuits are made by someone that knows what they are doing and the eggs have the prettiest deep-yellow yolks, not to mention cooked a perfect over easy. The waitress was a delight and made sure we felt right at home. The regulars are treated like family, including a breakfast birthday stack, complete with a candle and the entire restaurant singing " Happy Birthday" to Bud. He was delighted and even got a few hugs from those close by. Restaurants like this a disappearing from the landscape far too often these days. Do yourself a favor and get here so you can say you have tasted and experienced true hometown America.

What you'd expect from a small town diner. Good food and service was fast. Seat yourself so sometimes if it's busy it can be a bit weird to either wait for a table to be cleaned off or just sit at the dirty table.

I was a little let down by the food given the high ratings. There are a few stands out, such as the corn bread and the chicken. They know how to do chicken - it was juicy and well seasoned. This was the star of the show. The pulled pork sandwich is phenomenal as well. I thought the ribs and sausage were standard but the beans, coleslaw and potato salad were not good. I got the crown sauce and hot bbq sauce - I would skip the hot one next time. It's super vinegary and has no bbq taste. Go with the crown sauce forsure! Sweet tea is delicious and a nice way to wash down the meal.

We got the smoky sampler, side of potato salad, 2 corn muffins, and 2 additional sauces (crown sauce and hot & spicy). A must-try is the ribs, I haven't licked a bone clean that quick in a while. Crown sauce is a sweet sauce while the spicy sauce is perfect for when you want an extra kick, but not an aggressive kick. Sides were great, and my potato salad expectations are higher than ever after that meal. Corn muffins have a little sugar sprinkled on top. Service: 5/5 the only issue is that this place is not open 7 days a week, just Fri-Sun. Server was kind and the other employees that walked by the table asked how we were doing multiple times. Ambiance: this is a food truck with outdoor seating, which is about 8 picnic tables all with umbrellas.

Simply put, the bodega breakfast sandwich might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten. I took it to eat on the road and was startled about how delicious it was. The freshly baked (you can tell) brioche bun with everything bagel seasoning on top added a great salty taste to go along with the tasty stuff inside. I've traveled all over the country for work for 20+ years, and like I said, this might be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had! To top it off, the staff was super nice.

I think it was because they enjoyed working there. Or, at least it give them a chance to eat some really tasty food. I had their Cubano Tartine. That's kind of like an omelet with the ingredients of a Cubano sandwich, except for the roll, mixed in. (And yes, I get that the cooking process is a bit different.) ' Anyway, this Cubano Tartine shows up on a plate in front of me. I dig in and keep digging. The ingredients, ham, cheese, pickles, etc, were plentiful and delicious. They were sitting on an ample slice of their sourdough bread. That was the first issue. It was IMPOSSIBLE to cut. I guess I could have asked for a steak knife or maybe a power tool. But, there was so much other stuff that I was able to have a very filling meal without it. The other issue was that the lightly dressed side salad was doused in dressing. Again, didn't complain because, for me, it wasn't a problem during this visit. Issues aside, if I come back to Hagerstown, I'll look for an excuse to come back.

But…read moreif you're looking for a place to eat right after leaving Shenandoah, this is a fine option. We stopped by at 11:30 for lunch on a Sunday in fall. We were told there was a 10-15 minute wait, but if we sat at the empty bar we would have to wait the same amount of time because food was behind. Not sure how that works but okay. They have a nice text system for their waitlist, so we used that. We waited in the back room, which had a few tables, a large stage, a pool table, and a jukebox. It was a fun vibe! Once we sat, we both got the cheeseburger- there's only one choice for a meat burger. It took a while to come out. The burger was pretty average. The server described it as a smash burger even though it didn't say that on the menu. The patties were a little thin, with standard toppings on a sesame seed bun. The fries were thin and nothing special. My friend called it a slightly upgraded McDonald's. Again, nothing bad but nothing special. I wouldn't come back, but there aren't many other options in Sperryville.

This was one of the few eateries along the route, spread out along the highway. I don't often get around to country town restaurants so I thought this one might be pretty good. The first thing that jumps out about this place is the beautiful vista of the golf course greenery with mountains hanging in the back. On a beautiful sunny day, the greenery on the patio just shines. Inside, there is a narrow bar area and some booths, but if you walk a few more steps in you'll find an open reception area complete with a decorated stage and some open tables, a small bar, a pool table and a juke box. It was clear of this room was for an event or if it was just another turn off of the main dining area, but it was interesting to look at nonetheless. We came around 1:30 pm, and the brunch menu was still open. We opted for the burger and fries. The burger was decent, but the fries sadly tasted a bit too crunchy and poorly seasoned. The service was decent, and thankfully we didn't have to wait too long for service or to be seated. All in all, it was a nice experience but I don't think I'd necessarily recommend this place for the food, but if you like views, this place didn't disappoint.
