We were fortunate enough to visit this place on n a Monday night when they were open but business was quiet. As a result we got treated like family! Robert and is wife is the owner and he actually sat down with us for the beginning and ending of our meal and answered our many questions about the place. It was a very down homey, historical setting and the chef creates meals from different countries, making everything from scratch. I had an African tomato based stew and hubby had catfish tacos. Both were excellent! I am gluten intolerant and will definitely call ahead when traveling through to try other GF options, especially the GF carrot cake they occasionally make! Returned for a long overdue dining experience- absolutely wonderful shrimp + chorizo + rice gumbo. Portioned well - no boxes needed and spices just right. Kelly makes a perfect Bombay sapphire martini and the carrot cake is spot on- not too sweet and sticky. The Frog continues to live up to my last review, would give 6 stars if possible. We were greeted by the owner with a big "Welcome to my home!" You could immediately sense that it would be a special place. The steak dinner, chicken dinner, and burger were all delicious. Clearly fresh and homemade. The burger was so fat, and my son inhaled it. We had fun conversation with the owner throughout our visit. Found this little place by searching here on Yelp as we were approaching Front Royal on our way back home from DC. We are glad we stopped. It's a small place with seating spread out nicely so as not to feel like you are right on top of other diners. Local photographers have art displayed on the walls for sale. There's a small stage for live music. When we enter we were greeted, handed menus, and invited to sit wherever we wished. It's very casual and the serving staff (just 2 on a Sunday night) worked in tandem to ensure everyone was well taken care of. All the staff was pleasant and friendly. The menu is varied and we were tempted by many selections. We saw the salmon come out to the table next to us and it looked delicious. However, we opted for the Blue Wing Burger and the Shrimp Tacos. The flavor of the burger was fantastic. You can tell this is fresh burger and as a bonus, it's locally sourced. They make their sauces in house. The ketchup had more of a marinara texture and flavor. The mayo had herbs in it and was lovely. The brioche bun is also made in house. We added an egg for $2 and it was cooked perfectly for that ooze. The burger came with with "homemade garlic tots" which were like home fries at other places. The flavor was good. The shrimp for the tacos were perfectly seasoned and grilled. They are complimented again by the sauces and sides. The cilantro cream was delicious and there was also a spicy pineapple sauce for drizzling, or dunking if you please. The cabbage slaw enhanced the tacos but could easily be eaten as a side. Our only complaint was that the portion sizes were appropriate. LOL We would have loved the oversized American portions! I almost never write 1-star reviews, but my experience here (food + service) was so incredibly terrible all around, especially given the good reviews on Yelp. The staff initially seemed nice, but by the end they just said sorry once and didn't seem genuinely apologetic at all. We arrived around 2:15pm, well past peak lunch hour. Most of the tables were empty. We ordered a burger (medium) and shrimp poboy, as well as 2 cups of ice water and a cup of coffee. It took about 10 minutes for the water to arrive, and another 10 minutes for the coffee (it was fine, nothing special). I finished my water within the first couple minutes, but the server did not offer to refill our empty cups for the remainder of the service. We waited an additional 30 minutes for our food. No one came to check in on us the entire time. We got up ourselves to check in with the server and he said we were next. Waited 10 more minutes... finally, we got up to leave. We went inside to pay for the coffee and they told us our food was ready. In a valiant effort to support small businesses and not waste food, we paid for the food (with tip!) and took it to-go. When we arrived at our hotel 10 minutes later, we were utterly disappointed. The burger: we ordered it medium but it came out well done and completely dry/crumbly. We ordered the burger with cheese ($1 extra) and bacon ($2 extra) but they didn't add either. The potatoes were cold and hard (but in all honesty, much better than the burger). The poboy: the sandwich had completely fallen apart and we had to eat it with a fork and knife. The shrimp was COLD. The lettuce was soggy (after just a 10 minute drive home). The sandwich tasted like a cheap salad that had been doused in thousand island sauce with some cold shrimp tossed in. The best part of the meal was the side of mac & cheese. And the sauces that came with the burger. So completely frustrated with our entire experience here. I know it's tough in these pandemic times, but this restaurant truly needs to step up and improve their food and service. read more

Worth the wait! I like that they lay out the expectation in advance- good food takes time!! So true. Don't go if you're in a hurry but rather save this yummy experience for a day when you can chill and converse, sip a cold VA beer, and enjoy the sunshine outside or their welcoming inside area. They are honest in that you won't get KFC drive through service so kindly don't jump on the review wagon of " it took a while to get our food". Now for the good stuff! I love the vibe. It's local, it's chill, it welcomes trail goers, locos, and weekend warriors. What a great place to grab lunch when headed to the Loudoun wineries or from Loudoun to Charlottesville. They support local breweries and farmers - love this! If you don't support local as a food and beverage establishment you should! Grab a VA beer. I had an Octoberfest from Blue Mountain and Devils Pony from South Street. Food was so good. The chicken lettuce wraps were not only tasty and a HUGE portion but so beautiful. Stopped in today for dinner while visiting the Front Royal area. Absolutely everything was 5-stars from the atmosphere/decor, to our waiter who was also the owner, to the apps/entrees. Potato pancakes as a starter was killer. I had a 16 ounce ribeye cooked to perfection (medium rare) with a grilled shrimp add on. Shrimp were amazing and could have easily stood on their own as a separate entree. Our other entrees were also right in the money from the perfectly prepared tofu to the house made dressings and sauces. Highly recommend this cool joint with great eats and friendly staff. Friendly service, fresh food and great coffee! Just what we wanted after a long day hiking Old Rag. You can find some hearty burgers and tacos on the menu, but also some great salads. I rarely have a shrimp salad where the meat on the salad lives up to the hype on the menu, but they did not disappoint at BWF. A fair portion of large shrimp cooked and seasoned perfectly. The coffee is fresh ground to order and prepared pour-over, and was excellent. I will definitely stop back the next time we're in Front Royal to try some other things on the menu. My wife and I came to Front Royal on a bit of a whim (NOVA based) and, honestly, the owner's responses to some of the ridiculously salty 1 star reviews drew my attention. I had to check it out for myself. Well, from start to finish we had the best experience. During/Post COVID (however you want to define where we're at now) I think it's pretty clear that the service industry hasn't quite rebounded, but we did not notice that at all here. We were greeted promptly, the owner stopped by to personally welcome us after we sat down, and the service was excellent. There was one large party and several smaller parties during lunch on a Saturday and no hiccups at all. Most importantly, everything here was delicious. The shrimp was quite possibly some of the best shrimp I've had in years, the burger was cooked perfectly, and the Po'boy was wonderful (obviously, since the shrimp was so damn good). It ended up raining so we didn't get to explore Front Royal too much, but that works for us because next time we come we will definitely dine here again. TL;DR: you can safely disregard the few 1 star reviews for this restaurant. And whoever said the food was "bland," definitely needs to get a COVID test. read more

A relaxing rustic spot to grab some amazing food. The meals never disappoint and are very flavorful. The food is made to order with fresh local ingredients. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I have a lot of food allergies/sensitivities and they are very good about recommending a safe options or making a few modifications to make a dish safe for me. My favorite lunch dish is the bacon avocado salad with grilled chicken and my favorite dinner dishes include the shrimp tacos or the shrimp dinner. The shrimps are always cooked to perfection. My husband's favorites include the Cubano sandwich, the Shrimp Po' Boy or the Blue Wing Burger topped with bacon, egg, cheese, fried egg and chimchurri sauce. If your enjoying an adult beverage the cobbler mountain ciders are fantastic and we really enjoy the Terra Barrosa wine. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

On my drive back to Arlington. Virginia stopped here to have a nice hot bowl of white bean soup. It was more like stew! Very hearty and very tasty. I was greeted by the warm hospitality (and welcoming voice) of Robert one of the owners. I LOVE the Blue Wing Frog! This charming cute local restaurant offers fresh, wholesome, housemade items and a nice selection of local craft beer. We ordered: Falafel Bites (super crispy bites that had a lovely vegan tzatziki sauce - yum! Definitely not your typical balls of falafel, but shaped like mini pucks and just so tasty!); two bowls of their Creole Chicken soup (filled generous with hand-pulled chicken and veggies, this soup just hit the spot and was so perfect for a cold day!); The Cubano (grilled sandwich, jam-packed with Swiss, housemade mustard, house-pickled pickles and tons of slices of sweet ham and Cuban roast pork; this came with a side of 'garlic' taters, which were roasted potatoes with herbs, and served with a side of housemade ketchup); and, RK's Famous Skrimp Po'Boy (grilled shrimp on a toasted housemade brioche roll, filled with tons of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and dressed with chipotle remoulade; the brioche was toasted perfectly, making it nice and crispy, and that sauce was just MONEY!). We also couldn't leave without grabbing some of their housemade cookies (such as oatmeal raisin, rosemary shortbread, ginger molasses, etc.). One of the owners, Mr. Hall, was so welcoming and so sweet! He had a great sense of humor, and he shared with us about the restaurant beginnings and some of the stories behind the menu items. You can tell that he has a lot of heart, and that a lot of that love goes into all of the items that he offers to his customers. The restaurant itself is spacious, has plenty of seating; don't forget to check out the 'giant picnic table' in the other room! There's an ice box and a water and an unsweetened tea dispenser, both self-serve. You check out the menu and order up at the counter once you're ready, but you grab a table of your choosing, and the food will be delivered to you. The staff here are so friendly, and all of the food items are of generous size and have a clean, fresh taste to them, but still being super flavorful and delicious! Robert takes pride in his business and still connects with his guests like no other restaurant I have been to. He has a genuine soul and will make you laugh with his jokes!! Great local cafe in Front Royal. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon on our way back from Luray. Seating was prompt and friendly. I ordered a Bloody Mary and the fully-homemade Reuben and my wife ordered the sangria and shrimp salad. All the food was delicious! The Reuben was fully homemade from the bread to the Corned Beef to the Sauerkraut. The shrimp in the shrimp salad were awesome to. After a very exhausting hike nearby, the boyfriend and I decided to stop in for some hearty sandwiches. I saw the great reviews and was excited to give this place a try. But then walked I waslked into one of the slowest/strangest services I've had in a long time. Then somehow the server just completely forgot about us, even though we were the only customers actually eating inside. Food: Yeah, I know that was a long intro. I said all of that to say it was already 2 in the afternoon, we were starving and I wasn't super please with service thus far. That is until the server apologized and spoke to us a bit and we found out he is just an ultra chill guy and wasn't done purposely. Also, the food was outstanding! Rather than having a heavy fried shrimp with sauce and lettuce, this one came with huge, plump grilled shrimp tossed with the remoulade sauce and cabbage. The Cubano, just as huge as the Po Boy tasted meatier than most Cubanos, not as cheesy and was topped with some hefty pickles in the middle.
