We planned a quick day trip to Wardensville and stumbled upon this place. This was on a Sunday. They are open for brunch 11-2pm, then close until 4pm for dinner service. So it was not open when we first stopped by but so glad we returned for dinner. This is such a beautiful spot. The decor and ambiance inside is elegant farmhouse style. The service was excellent. Our sever was super attentive and was happy to chat with us about the area and other things to see along the way. The food is farm to table, so expect super fresh veggies and meats. We ordered the Caprese salad for an appetizer and it was just phenomenal. For my entree I got the half chicken and it was huge! I had to take half home with me for leftovers, but I certainly wasn't complaining because it was juicy and tender. Just delicious. They also had a great selection of NA beers. Very welcoming atmosphere, server and staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. We had the Pimento Cheese appetizer, great flavor. For the entree, the Pork Sausage which came with an accompaniment of Summer fruit and vegetables. The pork was cooked perfectly, not too much sauce or spice, just the natural pork flavor. Could one of the best fried tofu sandwiches be hiding in Wardensville, WV? Come try it yourself. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but the tofu sandwich was incredibly delicious. The homemade sauce coupled with the brioche bun can be summed up into one word: WOW! The cucumber salad was a knock out. Do not skip this dish especially if in the summer. Wardensville is a very small community that I would pass through when heading to Parsons, Wv driving from Winchester. My husband would say we need to stop sometime on our way home, so tonight we finally stopped. Very cute, rustic look. Small menu that changes depending on the farm from what I understand. On the bottom of the menu they have a section called "Tipping Info" basically to keep things equitable between the staff they pay a dependable wage and the customer can give a donation. We donated as if we were tipping 20%. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food: like I mentioned menu changed a little from the one posted on the review but it was good. Both my husband and I got the Mack Burger and I got a side of Collard greens. I gave a 4 instead of 5 because my burger was cooked medium, I cannot eat a medium burger. 50/50 fault, I was not asked how I wanted the burger cooked AND I never thought to tell them well done. Collards were delish. We will stop again , I will just ask for well done. read more

What an amazing eating experience in the town of Wardensville. Everything from the food to the service was exquisite. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and you can tell they took care to craft such a wonderful venue. I had the fried chicken sandwich and split the greens, potatoes and Smore's tart with my friend. The chicken sandwich was so elevated, you can tell there was a lot of thought that went into each component of the dish. The sides were good too but the highlight was the dessert. First Time Here, Used to eat at this location before the new construction. The outside architecture is very modern with a medley of materials, very POSH. The old parking lot out back is gone with curbs, shrubs & a handicap spot near the back door (ASA only). Somebody spent a LOT of $$ & wait till see the interior! Some interior decorator deserves a prize. The lavatories are labeled: W C , as in England. At the aft end of the kitchen is an enormous, open wood fireplace with 2 cooks. The rest of the open kitchen, bar & dining room is equally astonishing. The menu is sparse, very interesting and, of course, expensive. (Rt 55 is one of the few passes thru the mountains & has rushes for skiing, fishing, kayaking & hiking). There are many great beers on draft, but we stuck with our old friend, Devils Backbone, Vienna Lager. Split a Ceaser salad, best I've had, light dressing with red pickled onions & zweiback croutons. We shared 2 burgers & one small order of "fries" thick, dark, curved & lightly salted. All the sauces were made in-house and wonderful. Frankly, the pepper sauce, made with 3 locally farmed breeds, is the only thing that compares to Cholua! The chef gave me the bottle, thanks. For dessert, I got a Bombay gin martini, very dry, w 2 olives, good but still too sweet. Staff all smiling, friendly and attentive. Worth the price, but there is no fast food for many miles in either direction, except for pizza & 7-11 fare. Glad we finally stopped in....... read more

One of the best restaurant's I've eaten at this year and I've been to various big cities and small towns. When I saw there was an option to sit at the chef's counter, I had to do it. The heat and smells from the hearth were amazing. The overall restaurant is a pretty calm and has a friendly vibe, nothing too over the top. The food itself looked and tasted amazing whether it was burgers and hot dogs from the kitchen, chicken or fish from the hearth, or vegetables from the chef's counter. I ate so much and still felt like I could've gone for more. Plus, my cocktails were so refreshing and balanced, it really made the whole experience wonderful. So it's definitely not a bingo hall, despite the name. (Apparently the name comes from a sign that they found at a thrift store- the sign is hanging in the dining area.). Service was fantastic. What an incredible find! We came during a snowstorm and it was like a beacon of hope on a frigidly cold and dark night when so many other restaurants closed. The staff were incredibly apologetic about having a limited menu but what they did have was still delicious and well executed and awesome. Love the glowing yet understated and warm ambiance inside, the open kitchen with the fire, and the beautiful bar with high ceilings. Lovely, chill service with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Local, farm fresh fare from down the street where possible. We tried the following: - burger: it was one of the best I've had in years. A little crispy, very juicy, flavorful, perfect bun that doesn't mush up but adds to the dish. - the fried pork chops smothered in gravy over carolina gold rice and with a side of turnip greens with pickled pepper vinegar: really tender pork, incredibly flavorful rice, delicious greens. - field green salad: super fresh, well dressed, light and bright with carrots and radish, a nice start to the meal - chard with fried garlic was the only miss for us. It smelled and tasted strongly of gas. Not sure what happened there though the chard was perfectly cooked. We will definitely come back when we are next in town. We have come here a dozen times since they have opened and sadly the quality of the food has decreased. My partner and I brought a friend from out of town for dinner last night. I was hoping for a special that would change up my past experiences here, but there was not a whole lot of invigorating selections, but we did order appetizers, entrees, and sides. We started with the Fried Pickles, which were underwhelming, sure it was nice that they were sliced thinly, but that just made them chewy instead of crispy. Fried Potatoes - not bad, my friend liked them, but I was indifferent, I'm not a big starch person and the dipping sauce was just okay. The cheeseburger that my fried ordered well done was very pink inside, and she didn't eat much of it. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was spot on, and we all felt that this was excellent, best food of the night. Pork and Dumplings - my partner got dumplings that were flat and had very little flavor - not something they expect when they ask for dumplings. The pork was tender and flavorful, but the dumplings made it sad. Roast Beet Salad was bad, just bad, none of us liked it because each bite of beet tasted like someone poured liquid smoke all over it on the grill. The Garage Beer was good. The white wines that were delicious. Sadly, I don't think we will return to this restaurant anytime soon because of the declining quality of menu selections every time we visit. But hey, this might be a great place to get a craft beer when you're washing your laundry across the street on a Thursday night! read more

We were lucky enough to have a big crowd so we tasted nearly everything but if I had to narrow it down I would say do not skip the oysters, if you're a pimento cheese lover then get this edition which is just the right amount of runny to fit on the Ritz cracker, and I hate to admit but the chicken (yes the CHICKEN) was simply sublime. The trout is definitely a showstopper, but I equally like the pork. So whatever you're feeling like, you can't go wrong. Food okay... my server got my order wrong, so ended up with something else. It was one of my other choices, so I just excepted the order. We enjoyed our visit to Mack's. We had lots of the dishes and most of them I would do again without thinking. We ordered 5 veggies from the farm: heirloom tomatoes, deviled eggs, beets, grilled peppers, and collard greens. Each was unique and tasty. Definitely squeeze the lemon over the peppers, it made them pop even better. I really loved my cocktail, a gin and tonic with elderflower elements which was crisp and refreshing. Also had a heavens to Betsy bourbon drink which was a good choice if you are looking for fabulously complex flavors that really fill your mouth. Sweet tea was also given high ratings from my table mates. The falafel and burger were both some of the best of each I have had. The kids chicken was also perfect: juicy and the breading was flavorful. I was less enamored with the 2 big plates we got. The steak was perfectly cooked, but was served with a mint sauce which was really amazing, but overwhelmed the meat. The potatoes served with it were nice, but needed seasoning other than the beef fat (only time I wished for salt and pepper on the table the entire night). The grilled chicken was a bit dry. Neither were bad, but just not as well balanced as the other dishes, which we're amazing. The lemon chess pie was definitely worth the calories. My husband and I rolled through this little town otw to our airbnb and noticed this restaurant. It's swanky and modern looking on the outside and a whole vibe on the inside. Modern architecture with vintage decor. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. They have a simple menu with meat and ingredients that come from farms within a half hour of the restaurant. They cook almost everything over an open hearth which we sat in front of and I stared at the whole time. It was mesmerizing. We got the half chicken and pork platter. I've not had a meal this good in idk how long. Even the peach and blueberry galette with buttermilk ice cream was divine. If you've never had buttermilk ice cream I implore you to try it. Service by Debra was impeccable and she explained everything pertaining to the fresh meat/ ingredients and where it comes from. I've never rated a restaurant as five stars but this place is the whole package. I may drive 2 hours out of my way again just for this place. read more
