This was our first time back to O'Neills in several years. The interior is dark, but seating is good. The chair bottoms were very dusty, so makes one wonder how the cleanliness is in the rest of the building. We were greeted upon entering and given our choice of seating. Our server, Lexi, was very good and took good care of us. She is friendly and kept my Coke filled. The menu did not have a lot of choices for which I really cared. I went with the smoke house burger and fries. I'm not a fan of krinkle cut fries, but these were good. A little longer in the fryer would have made a big difference. A lousy experience for lunch. The music at lunchtime? Rap and hard rock, not a bar or a dance club. a family restaurant, Behavior of another guest? She played a video on her phone with the volume turned up high enough that we could hear it without effort several tables away, yet the staff did nothing to address the issue. They had oysters on the menu but when asked if they were fresh I was told that though they were delivered fresh and breaded in house, they were frozen. (Good oysters should never be frozen, anymore than lettuce should be.) I've eaten here for dinner in the years past but it has been quite a while. Either the quality has declined a lot or the lunch and dinner time atmosphere are very, very different. It was a real disappointment and not the review I'd like to have written. In fact, I'll add that the staff seemed like friendly, capable people. I had an excellent experience visiting O'Neils on a Saturday 7:45 pm while visiting the area. The restaurant was lively and we were seated and served quickly. We ordered the pork chop and burgers- calamari 10/10 Smokehouse burger 8/10 Pork chop 8/10 Black and Blue Burger 9/10 Desserts (peanut butter pie and chocolate mousse pie) 10/10 Service was fantastic and accommodating, allowing us to sub a turkey burger in one of the smokehouse burgers without any issue. Stopped at O' Neills restraunt in Moorefield WV today for a late lunch. I had a steak sandwitch and onion rings. The steak sandwich was all fat. It had very little meat in it, with one piece of lettuce on a bun. The onion rings were great but the sandwitch was terrible. I told the waitress that the sandwich was terrible. She said she would tell them, but I still got charged full price for the worst steak sandwitch iIever ate! read more

Traveling from out of state. We stopped here because of good reviews. My wife had their mahi mahi with mangoe sauce. It was awesome. Although they don't have steak salad on the menu, they made me it. It was the bomb. We had their spinach dip, it was good, only wish the cheese on top was melted. The mixologist made us amazing drinks. You can't go wrong with the mixed drinks, just make sure you have a designated driver because the drinks are made professionally. This was my second time being at O'Neill's and there was a reason I came back. Tasty sandwiches and burgers, with daily soup specials. We had the Old Fields (Reuben type) and the Smoke House burger, along with some Cream of Potato soup. They were very festive with some lovely Christmas decorations up in the business. My family went here to eat tonight. The outside of the restaurant holds a hidden gem inside. The food was really good. Pretty good burger. Service was exceptional especially with the large amount of locals that were inside ( always a good sign right?) Very primitive type of atmosphere, country music and nature decorations. I was surprised there was a full bar inside! I've been here twice, the inside seating is much better than the outside. I enjoy going to family own restaurants that is one of a kind . They cook fresh homemade dishes. And the staff is friendly and so are the customers. And the food was delicious but it was a hard choice to make. But I had the homemade chili to start . Then I ordered the marinade grilled chicken with corn on the cob and bake potato. Sweet tea. And desert homemade apple pie with ice cream. Having visited Moorefield for work, and not knowing much about the area, I'm figuring this is one of the few places to eat. It's very homey and welcoming, and was packed at lunch time on a Thursday. Service was great. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and fries, and it was quite good. I've nothing to complain about. The wraps with sweet potato fries looked even better, so I think I ordered wrong! Wish I'd had some pie - they have a huge list. As an aside, there's cell service in Moorefield, which is good, because there isn't much of it in the surrounding area. Anyway, if in the town, O'Neills is not a bad stop to make. Passing thru on a Friday and stopped for lunch. The restaurant was clean, very cute, and homey. I ordered the Smokey Turkey Reuben, and my husband ordered the Pastrami Rueben on a Pretzel Roll. Both had soft bread. Both sandwiches were delicious and came with crispy fries! 5 stars! It was so good we decided to stop back Monday, on the way home. We shouldn't have. My husband ordered a Rib Eye Sandwich. It was served on a dry roll, no mayo, no sauce, with a giant piece of inedible green lettuce. When he bit in and pulled back, half the meat on the sandwich flopped out. It was a thin, extremely fatty, unseasoned steak, folded over on a roll. It was gross. There was so much fat he had to deconstruct it to pull off all the fat and grizzle. It was so flavorless, he gave up and didn't finish it. The fries were unseasoned as well. I had the Loaded Potato Soup and Chicken Salad sandwich special. The soup wasn't hot and was missing the cheese and bacon (which the waitress fixed upon request). The Chicken Salad was served with a scoop of flavorless Chicken Salad on dry toast ( I didn't ask for the bread to be toasted). There was no mayo on the bread to soften it, and it had the same gigantic leaf of tastless lettuce. The Chicken Salad was also missing any of the usual crunch of celery, onion, fruit or anything. It was tasteless. I didn't finish it either. Bread should always have some condiment on it, whether it be mayo, mustard or butter and fries should always be seasoned as soon as removed from the fryer. Whatever. No one wants dry unseasoned toast or fries. Very dissapointing. Service was great on both visits. read more

Hard to give this 2 or 3 stars. 2.4 would be most appropriate. I was alone and ate at the bar. The food (house salad and chicken quesadilla) was entirely predictable with no surprises (good) but also nothing special. The desert, crème brûlèe was not that great. If I came back through here again I probably would not go back unless I wanted a steak or prime rib dinner, a baked potatoe with all the fixings, and a glass of indeterministic red wine. But this is semi-rural West Virginia so please keep that in mind. The folks in the place were very friendly and trying hard to please. I have to admit feeling some empathy for these folks trapped(?) in what must be the most beautiful state in the United States yet one with such limited opportunities. First, I must clarify that my review is based on me being a visitor to the area. My family lives in Moorefield, and so they took me here. The atmosphere is friendly, quaint, and welcoming. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and how it was prepared. The clientele were mostly locals, based on the recognition folks made with each other when they arrived or left. The menu is American and fairly extensive with special meals highlighted. I had the black and pepper rib eye. It was cooked to order, and well trimmed of excess fat. my side was the Cesar salad, which used shredded Parmesan, but no croutons, and the creamed peas. I had not has them before, but they were quite good...whole peas in a thick cream gravy. The desert options were quite extensive, and I had the butterscotch pie. yum. I will definitely insist on returning next time I visit. The locals seemed to like it, and I think most out of towners will too. read more

Ok, so it wouldn't get 4 stars in a major metropolitan area, but for Moorefield, WV it's as gourmet as it gets. Fresh salads, homemade soups and sandwiches, and a big selection of excellent pies. Agree with the person that first reviewed this place. Service was quick, and food was fine for an area like this. We had pasta, swordfish, and steak and we all thought our meals were fine. They have really good desserts, like the blueberry pie that I had. For this type of place, it was expensive..with tip the bill was over $80..no liquor or appetizers. We've been going here forever and often, scheduling our traveling between Northern VA and Canaan Valley around the times they are open (i.e., closed Sundays.) Good food, outside seating was great. Decided last minute to get some slices of pie to go. OH MY GOODNESS! If you have no room left, get some pie to go - I'm serious. HUGE slices and they are probably the best I have ever had. We got Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mousse, and on the advice of the server, we got a Coconut Cream. Very nice small town restaurant with upscale menu. The crab cakes were very good with very little filler and mostly lump crab meat. I had the salad with a roasted garlic dressing that was delicious and the asparagus was perfectly roasted. The only down sides I saw was small dining room and only 4 spears of asparagus was an order.
