This place is so cozy and feels like a step back into the 90's when restaurants were filled with families and couples. My son raved about this place so we went as a family ( I'm visiting from out of state . The wait to order our food was insanely slow. Crab cakes were dumped on top of our pasta dishes resulting in soggy cakes. We were halfway thru our meals ( still no water or soda refills at this point ) Our server had not bussed the table of appetizer dishes when she squeezed our mains onto the table ( My son bussed the table !). The server came back; said" we have a new chef. Your crab cakes should not have been on top. We will make you brand new meals to take home" say what ? In the middle of no where, I wasn't really expecting much for this place, regardless of the good reviews. But it we made a stop in the area as part of our route and they were able to accommodate a pretty large group immediately. Figured I go basic and get the chicken tenders with mac and cheese and cole slaw. Wow it was really good. The mac was pretty cheesy and good texture for the pasta. Cole slaw wasn't overly sweet and veggies were fresh. The tenders were crispy, meaty, and pretty flavorful. Plus, they give you like 15 good size strips; I barely made a dent in what amounted to like 3 full chicken breasts. Service was good, drinks refilled often, and separate checks for everyone. I was very disappointed how the service and food quality has diminished since my last visit. Our server took a long time to come take our drink order and then got it wrong. (only 3 drinks) He almost spilled one and made a joke of it. NOT FUNNY. I watched him just wander around the restaurant with no real purpose. It took quite a while to get our food. I believe it had been sitting a while before he came out of his daze and got it. It was only lukewarm. I ordered a Reuben, which in the past was very good; but this time mediocre. A portion of the fries were undercooked It was very dry and the bread seemed stale. I had to wave him down to get refills. The people dining next to us said they had all new staff in the past two weeks. I doubt I will return any time soon. Extensive menu and daily specials. One of my favorites is their onion petals. Similar to a blooming onion but without the mess of ripping apart a greasy onion. Also the dipping sauce is great. If you have a sweet tooth they have a great ice cream sunday and float bar. read more

I bought tickets for the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad excursion, and after this amazing adventure I took my parents to this restaurant. We chose this restaurant because it has high reviews, and it was the closest to the railroad. We were happy to see how busy the restaurant was too... it is an indication that the food is good . They gave us warm bread and butter to start. The bread was delicious and very fresh! We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, and it was good. They gave us maraina sauce and sweet chili sauce for it. This was my first time trying calamari with sweet chili sauce, and it was delicious!!! I could eat this combo all day! I got the seafood topped ravioli. I loved the scallops and shrimps. I thought the sauce was very heavy for this dish, and there was so much sauce to the point I had to scrap some off of my raviolis... but I loved my plate! My dad got the crab cakes with loaded potato and corn. My mom got a smokehouse burger with sweet potato. They both loved their entrees. There was nothing to take home! We highly recommend this place. Excellent place to eat, both here and in Slanesville. Their pizza bread is out of this world, as is their pizza. Ask them to top their pizza with steak. It's only a couple bucks more, but look at the pizza in the picture I've attached! We were stuffed! And they do not use Steak-Ums. They use real, delicious steak. While visiting in Romney, WVA , my husband and I ate 3 dinners and one ice cream treat, What a wonderful place, The parking area was easily accessible and the welcome was always with a smile. The food was so tasty ... we had a variety and the house salad was excellent ( had it every night ), the tomato basil soup was the best I ever had ... creamy and flavored just right. My husband enjoyed the boneless wings, and shrimp pasta dish . The food was prepared and served hot. and delicous. There really isn't many options in Romney West Virginia. I have to say that this place sticks out like a sore thumb. It's mama modern looking building into town that looks really old. When we got inside the hostess was very nice and sat us. I noticed that they had a lot of New York photos on the wall. Being from New York I had to ask the waitress what was up with all the New York themed stuff in the middle of West Virginia. She had no idea. The food here was surprisingly very good. If I had to take a guess I would say that this is the best place to eat in Romney. I had a southwestern wrap which was very good. After I was done with my sandwich I had an old-fashioned hot chocolate which was absolutely delicious. You can get milkshakes and other dessert items here. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this place the staff was very nice and the food was excellent I would definitely come back here. I highly recommend this place. read more

Main Street grill suffers from some miss prioritization on the part of management and some issues with adapting to new surroundings. The service is usually pretty good. The food quality is uneven at best. With all the money put into this location the cooks are clearly not professionally trained. I would not trust this expensive business to anything less but that seems to have happened. Would you spend a ton of money on a mechanics shop and hire high school kids to do the mechanic work? If I'm wrong and they are trained let me know. I'm just going by the level of mistakes I have observed. The menu is also entirely to large. They serve Chinese, pizza, and everything in between. You CANNOT do all those things well and keep all those ingredients fresh and in stock. Because of the lack of a trained kitchen staff and an overambitious menu Mainstreet Grill is not what it could be. The old restaurant was alone in a wilderness where being the only place to serve something was a plus. It would sell. It was the only option. In Romney there is competition. Narrow the menu and do that part well. Lose Chinese and Italian, Stick to The core menu and steaks. No one else does that in Romney. Allowed to focus on that it could be done very well. In the mean time often the proteins are cooked incorrectly and often correctly. Often the good is fresh and of good quality sometimes it is not. Narrow and focus and this is a 5 star restaurant waiting to happen. read more

This place reminds me of Applebees or Ruby Tuesdays with a cooler atmosphere. I went solo since I was in town for the weekend. I was promptly seated for dinner in a booth (it's nice to be given the option of booth or table which I was by the hostess). I was pretty thirsty from working outside most of the day and warned the waitress - "keep the water coming or leave a pitcher." She brought me out 3 glasses of ice water and kept refilling as I'd down one - she was on top of her game. I was provided two menus - the permanent menu and the summer special menu. I opted for 1/3 ribs with the delicious north carolina sauce and the atomic chicken sandwich. For sides I went with green beans, loaded fries and sweet potato. The sauce that comes with the loaded fries was AMAZING! It was kinda like a ranch with horseradish (maybe? or some stone ground mustard)...whatever it was went really well with the cheese and fresh shopped bacon on the loaded fries. The ribs were tender and delicious and the North Carolina sauce (second time mentioned means you should try it) just took them to the next level. The chicken sandwich was good too. I went back a few days later to try the southwest eggrolls and wasn't too impressed. I wouldn't order them again. read more

Pretty pricey menu ( crab cakes for $22, really?), so I went for a Caesar salad but it had stale croutons made out of their recycled leftover homemade bread. Not toasted, just dried out. And how can you not have lemon for the ice tea? The calzone was pretty good though with four cheeses plus the addition of spinach. The service was prompt and friendly. Came to Romney to visit family that lives here and 12 of us went here for dinner. We made reservations 4 days in advance but arrive to find out they take reservations but don't hold tables so you still may wait for your table. Service was great our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. Prices were as good if not better than you would find in a trendy chain place in Winchester or Cumberland. Food was as good as the original location and contrary to another yelpers comment I did not find the gravy too salty. Overall we were all pleased with all our entrees and the milkshake bar was a hit with the young ones. If I have a complaint it is they don't have lemon wedges but rather offer you a powdered substitute. ( not what people want these days) read more

This place is decent. The area really makes it stand out. The town it is located in isn't the most traveled area. With that being said, this building is very clean and cute looking and it stands out amount the rest of the entire town. It's never because the last time I was in Romney this wasn't here. They have a really cute set up in side and there's plenty of seating. I would beware because I could see the entir town coming here on a Friday and Saturday night and there being no place to sit. I could be wrong but it filled up quick on a Saturday at noon. I went with the fried green tomatoes for a starter and they were pretty good but they were missing something. I cant put my finger on it. I also got the steak wrap with bleu cheese and that was really good, but super messy. We didn't have napkins so it ran down my hands. I reached on the other table to get extra napkins. Our server was pretty cool just got really busy and i can understand that as previously mentioned. The dessert part was intense. For whatever reason, I was craving sweet. I couldn't choose. But went with a creamsicle shake. This was gone in minutes. The way to pay was odd. We got our bills but it was like ...where did everyone go. We paid upfront and then kind of left. There seemed to be a manager there to make sure every thing was going ok, but it was pretty standard. Possibly the very best country fried sirloin I have ever had. Ever. I was surprised when I was asked, "how would you like your steak?" Really? With a deep fryer? Ok... They pulled off the perfect medium rare! Also, great service from a very young staff. It is too bad they don't serve alcohol, because no beer almost made me chose a different restaurant, but hot-damn, I'm glad I didn't. They do, although, have a great ice cream and dessert bar, which would double very nicely with some whiskey.... Picked this place to eat on our motorcycle ride to Western Maryland. My wife and myself both got salad and absolutely loved it. It was very fresh, and a very large portion for the money. Took the family of 7 out for dinner last night. Though surprised there is no alcohol served, we ordered appetizers and sodas and waited for our meal. An astonishing 45 minutes passed with barely a refilled soda! We were seated in a breezy window nook. Though quaint, the uninsulated walls and breeze leaking through the windows was so cold we did not take off our winter coats. When the food arrived, my sautéd mushrooms were nothing more than canned button mushrooms in an overly salted, canned gravy. The other main dishes were over-salted as well. Other reviewers are spot on: though quaintly presented and adorned as a small town, community soda shoppe / family restaurant, the fast food quality and lack of service ranks up with at most, Denny's with a Martha Stewart paint job. Please cut the salt, properly train your wait staff, and be conscious of the time spent between ordering and serving food. We all want a small-town feel, warm soda shop/bar atmosphere in Romney! So the food here is pretty good and the wait staff are very attentive as well. The problem with this place is the amount of time you wait for your food. We've been there four times so far and it's been just over a 30 minute wait each time. The second issue with this place is that it is freezing in there (brrrrrrrr). Each time we've gone the A/C has been in overdrive which, coupled with the long wait time for your food...makes for a miserable experience. Complaints about the cold do nothing but garner a sad (we know) smile. This is a review for the ROMNEY, WEST VIRGINIA location. I was there on 28 December 2014 because I have been told several weeks ago that steak is no longer served at the Main Street Grill in Slanesville, WV. When Avalon Resort in Paw Paw, West Virginia is closed, we use that facility to serve our dining needs. Got to have a steak at least once in a while. So, I decided to go to the Romney location. If they don't serve alcohol, which is fine by me since I don't drink. It looked very much like a bar that I was seated next to in a booth. They had a special Christmas menu that I ordered the crab encrusted ribeye from. Very nice place. I gave my waitress a twenty percent tip. It seems that college students run the Romney place as opposed to high school students that run the Slanesville location. read more

This place is great for its new location. The only real problem i have with the place is the prices compared to what you get. Alot of the items on the menu are overpriced in my opinion. I ordered the 40 piece boneless hot wings, which was priced at 21 dollars which is actually ALOT better than waynes meat market in keyser, but thats the only thing i was hankering for that was in a decent price range.
