This place is a sold three and a half stars but I'll give it four because the half isn't an option. I'll be honest and say that we were not expecting much and in a way that is what we got. It obviously is catered to an older crowd, which is fine, and other places do that way worse. We walked in and were greeted by a very cheesy Elvis statue. So that set the tone as we half giggled and cringed. The wait staff was very friendly and allowed us to choose where we wanted to sit. The table and light fixtures seemed clean enough but the floor has definitely seen better days. We were handed a menu that was much smaller than I expected and I was very happy for that. We ordered our food and in less than ten minutes we had it. The food was served nice and warm-hot. We immediately felt that it is a comfort food. The taste was fine but improved after we added salt and pepper (most places that cater to elderly tend to not season their food a lot) and we were more than pleased with the meal. The serving size was spot on for us and the price was more than reasonable. I was not expecting to like it as much as I did and as a result will definitely go again next time I'm in the area and feeling hungry. read more

I'm not a fan of the name of this place, but the food was good! Seems like typical diner fare on the menu. Not sure how to describe the ambiance, though. The walls are all brick on the inside. My wife and I both got the hot turkey with fries and gravy and we were pleasantly surprised. It was pretty good! Service was attentive and we enjoyed our meal there. It's definitely better than a couple of other diners we have tried in the area, so I'm sure we'll be going back. read more

I've been here twice and all of my friends, my mom, and I agree that it is one of the worst places to visit. The burger is dry, yet somehow drenched in butter. The pasta sauce may as well be called butter and oil because the cheese was separated and the bottom of the bowl was just a pool of oil. The bread on the side was good, but it was simply toasted white bread that was drowned in even more butter. The service my first time visiting wasn't great. We had to seek our wait staff to get our table and order. My second time around they were very attentive. I assume they were just busy. The place looks cool, but by god is the food awful. read more

I don't really understand what people are expecting here, its called Chat and Chew- not Fine Dining. But if you want a solid breakfast and/or a sandwich- its pretty epic. The place was clean and the service was friendly. The coffee was hot and fresh. And my turkey club was- chef's kiss. It was huge, on delicious homemade bread and came with the saltiest chips (my favorite). I was starving and could only eat half. The value was also- chef's kiss. My daughter ate up her crinkle cut fries. The view is pretty epic too. read more

Well, this place has not gotten any better since my previous visit. The "super burger" isn't so super. The burger came out lukewarm and as dry as toast. The meat was way over-cooked and appeared the cook smashed all the juice and flavor right out of it. One of the worst burgers I've eaten. Our server was not the worst, but definitely not the best. She was more interested in talking to her buddies than taking care of all her customers. The seats are old and in need of replacing. Definitely last time I will waste my time and hard earned money at this dive. read more

Cleanliness too many flies in the store some of the foods OK and some other it's terrible. Some of the waiters are rude. Got a glass of tea and the glass was dirty. The bathrooms aren't very clean. read more

Decided to try this place with my bf visiting. We had an open faced turkey sandwich and stuffed shells. The side salad was tomatoes, onion, and lettuce. I found a few pieces of wilted or past their prime lettuce. The green beans were overcooked. The turkey meal was too salty. Even though the place was half full with COVID precautions, service was slow. They also sat us at a large booth (2) when a group of 5 was waiting. I observed waitstaff without their masks on at tables or their noses uncovered. The busboy was only wearing a face shield which has little protection without the mask. We won't be back. read more

Chat & Chew is a "Mom and Pop" restaurant, rich in history dating back to 1957. The decor is dated but has very interesting photos that date back to the beginning of the restaurant. The food is pretty good! The food is served hot and tastes good. I never had a bad meal here. The menu has a good variety of choices. The rolls look homemade. The service staff is friendly and welcoming. They make sure drinks are filled and the customer is happy. The restaurant is more than reasonably price. If you are looking for a good restaurant in a quaint small town, this would be the place. read more

Honest, simple, unpretentious homestyle food. This place is exactly what I was hoping it turned out to be. Great food, super friendly service, prices are fantastic and overall it's just a cool piece of nostalgia that I haven't experienced in a long time. Friday night fish fry was $11.95 for AYCE Fried or Broiled Haddock, with 2 sides, such a bargain. Fish was just lightly battered, not heavy or greasy. The Sour Cream & Onion Fries were fantastic. My better half was very please with the Hamburger Steak, smothered in caramelized onions, mushrooms and brown gravy, with mashed potatoes and green beans. Strawberry Shortcake, that we go to-go, was nicely packaged with everything separate so that it wouldn't get soggy on our trip back to where we were staying, very thoughtful of them. We went back on Saturday night and sat at the counter. there was a surprisingly good car show going on, so that was a treat! We both had fantastic burgers, I the Bacon Double with lettuce, tomato, onion, and Miracle Whip...it. was. fantastic. My better half had a plain double cheeseburger that she equally enjoyed. We split a basket of the aforementioned fries, just so good, all it needed was an ice cold beer or 6. Again, service was great! Friendly, helpful knowledgable staff. Well....order what you would expect to be good at a local place like this...burgers, sandwiches, fries, and whatever is homemade. You will get just what you expect. Do not order something that is obviously above what the restaurant seems to be able to handle. It's a typical, local, side of the road restaurant. Food is average, although what I find more interesting is the unusual decor....where else can you eat at an indoor gazebo....just a bit strange - see pictures. Dee-lish-us! New to the area (married a local guy) and found this gem of a restaurant a several years ago. I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal here. I prefer burgers & fries, myself, but, I, also, enjoy their seafood platter. Husband thoroughly enjoys their chipped beef gravy. My husband and I used to come in for all you can eat fish, but they have stopped all you can eat because of Covid. We stopped in last night 3/25/2021 and our server Brittany said the special for tonight was pork chops. I'm a little funny when it comes to pork so I asked how they were prepared, my server was very helpful when I asked and talked both me and my husband into getting them. We both ordered Pork chops with a baked potato and a side salad. She put our order in and I heard a lady from the kitchen yell "I told you we are out of pork chops" Brittany walked to the back and a couple minutes later returned with our salads. I thought she was going to tell me we couldn't get pork chops but to my surprise she did not. I asked her for a extra ranch (I like a little salad with my ranch) she asked the cook for another ranch and the cook yelled you gotta ring it up! I didn't think nothing of it, I just wanted my ranch but I feel like if we are paying customers just give us some ranch. Our salads were delicious and then came the pork chops and potato. They were perfect nicely browned and potatoes were a good size before I could even ask my server placed butter and sour cream on our table. Our drinks stayed full and she checked on us throughout our entire meal and then talked us into carrot cake for dessert. We really enjoyed our meal and I wanted to let the server know we did. We started talking and I told her about how upset I was that there was no longer all you can eat fish and she let me know that they have it back. This made my night, not only did I find another meal I enjoyed but I now knew I could come back on Fridays for my fish again. I will be returning but I hope the cook can be a little more friendly and not yell at the servers and make us feel like asking for extra ranch was such a bad thing! It was pretty busy but our server made sure everyone was taking care of and had a really good attitude. I would of given 5 stars if it wasn't for the cook, because everything else was outstanding! I don't hesitate at all to call this the worst meal I've had in years. My wife and I really wanted to love this place. We both ordered the broiled seafood platter, and we had high hopes after really liking the iced tea and dinner rolls we were served before our meals came. From then on, it was all downhill. The first thing I tasted was the "crab cake." This was no crab cake, especially for a Maryland restaurant. It was more like a dense, seasoned dough ball with some crab flakes mixed in for good measure. Truly terrible. I gave up on enjoying it immediately and moved on to the scallops. I bit into one and immediately spit it back out onto my plate -- ice cold and completely raw inside. I checked my wife's, and hers were the same. All of the food is served on one plate, so we were especially concerned that the raw juices had run onto the other portions, and I expressed that concern to the waitress when she returned. She immediately took the plates, apologized, and said that she'd take care of it. About 10 minutes later, she came back with the same food, still cold, on the same plates. To make matters even worse, my wife ended up getting my plate this time, complete with the crab cake with a bite taken out of it and the scallop I spit back onto my plate. But they did give us new sides, so that was nice of them. We were starving, so we decided to give up on seafood in this place and order something simple that they couldn't get wrong. My wife asked for a hamburger, and I ordered the hot turkey sandwich, which the menu said came on Texas toast. The waitress delivered the food to our table, and what we got was so bad we actually had to laugh. Chat-&-Chew should be known as the Home of the Anemic Burger -- the thing couldn't have been more then 2 ounces and so thin you could practically read a newspaper through it. It came on a saucer, by itself, with nothing else. My Hot turkey sandwich on Texas toast ended up being one ice-cold piece of thick, untoasted bread with a little bit of dry turkey crumbled on it, topped with lukewarm chicken gravy from a can, and served with a side of boxed mashed potatoes and canned green beans that would be easily out-shined by the same dishes served at any self-respecting cafeteria. It really was that bad, but we were starving by that point, so we ate it. When the waitress returned and asked how everything was, I told her. Regarding the cold "Texas toast," she said, "yeah...they never toast it." So much for service. In any case, we paid, and I tipped 18%, even though the waitress clearly gave up on us. So, we give up on Chat & Chew. We will NOT be back. read more

We ate here back in early January, and although the fried chicken I ordered was decent, I really wanted to try the pizza, but they don't make them anymore. Fries served on the side were ice-cold, and being my mother was with us, she ordered the hamburger and was not impressed with it at all. The wait staff also leaves a lot to be desired.
