My wife and I went to City Lights for a late lunch on our Anniversary. We arrived around 3:05. No other customers were there. A guy I assumed was the owner or manager was sitting at the bar watching TV and doing a crossword puzzle. A few minutes later we ordered a burger (well done) and a blackened salmon wrap. And then we waited. And waited. At 3:42pm I asked about the food, noting how long we were waiting. The waitress said it was coming right up (our waitress was kind and understanding). However, the owner grumbled at me that "the food is cooked to order." Ok. Great. I told the owner we only ordered a burger and a wrap and that doesn't take almost 40 minutes cooked to order, especially considering the place was empty. The owner got up and started talking back aggressively and in an irritated tone about how we didn't wait that long. I repeated that it doesn't take that long to cook a burger. I asked if he treated all his customers like this. If the owner is reading this: Here's a tip. Get off your behind and manage the restaurant. Don't blame the customer when the cook takes forever. Instead say, "I'm sorry it took so long we will get right on that" and then pop back in the kitchen to see what is happening. I'm so sorry that customers interrupted your important crossword puzzle. My "well done" burger was burned. I wanted it cooked through not a piece of charcoal. Not good. And my wife's salmon wrap did not have a lot of salmon. For what we got, it was very expensive. The waitress was excellent, but the service from the cook and management was abysmal. We will not be going back there again, which is too bad because as locals have enjoyed going to City Lights during the summer to sit on the patio for dinner. read more

I ordered a Shrimp Middleton (website listed as $12.95==charged $15), Crab Cakes Dinner (website listed as $23.95==charged $40) I understand prices can and are rising these days, but PLEASE update you prices on your own website so people know what to expect to pay at your restaurant!!! On a side note, I ordered a Peach Cobbler for desert, (served cold????) and the peaches were hard a rocks. Crab cakes good, but I could not enjoy them after paying so much more than expected. We had a delicious lunch today at City Lights. It was my husbands birthday, and we were in town, heading for a state park. The outdoor ambiance was very appealing, the food was delicious, and the service was good as well. Husband had the crab cake sandwich and slaw, and I had a special, the barbeque salmon wrap that came with fries. All of it exceeded expectations. If you're passing through Cumberland and need a break from your travels, I highly recommend stopping at City Lights for a meal, especially if the weather is good. They have a little outdoor seating yard set up in the middle of a downtown pedestrian walkway, which is certainly different than the usual patio set up just outside of the venue. The outdoor seating is situated in such a way that you're not likely to be bombarded by noise from any of the businesses on either side of the walkaway, which helps make lunch all the more relaxing. I ate here with my mother over the summer on our way to D.C., and we had no complaints. The kitchen was quick; the waitress very helpful and attentive; and our pair of special summer salmon salads were fresh and delicious. It's hard to find reasonable and healthy food while on the road, so we were more than happy to find something that wasn't the same old house salad option. Fresh, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned fish always impresses me as well, and the salmon here was both! I guess it's fair to mention that parking near the restaurant may be difficult, as others have mentioned; however since my mother and I were traveling, we took the time to wander through the downtown area and didn't try to park too close. As a result City Lights was a part of our lovely stroll through and exploration of Cumberland. The seating and food left us more than satisfied - we would definitely eat here again during future visits. read more

In all fairness, I wish I could try this place sometime other than a busy Friday night on Father's Day weekend. My review may have been better. My daughter and I both ordered the grilled tilapia, and fries with grilled vegetables. The food arrived about 30 minutes after we ordered and was room temperature. It obviously had been sitting for a while before being served. Everything could have been better seasoned. The server was friendly, but was really swamped with work. Stopped here for lunch after visiting town for a scenic train ride. My wife and I were the only table and were sat downstairs in the bar. The place was spotlessly clean and very classy in appearance. I had the Saturday Burger (Special) and my wife had chicken chaser wrap. The food was exceptional. The dressing on the burger and wrap were freshly made in house. The chicken was fresh and perfectly cooked as well was the burger. The bun was different and may have been made from scratch too. The server was sweet but under sold how good the food was. What a great dining experience in a nice little downtown area. In my husbands words..."the food was knockout, I liked it a lot!" And he dines in some pretty nice restaurants. Not pictured are the crab cake which was absolutely out of this world. That baked brie with honey was magnificent, and my pork chops were so tender. Husband had the filet & daughter had a New York strip, both thought they were really tender and flavorful. The asiago potatoes were really nice, chunks of red skin in them and you can tell they are homemade. Highly highly recommend this restaurant. The service was great too! I want to give them more stars because the waitstaff was AWESOME - so nice and attentive, and really made the experience. We were a little worried when we walked inside and saw that the primary demographic seemed to be the elderly, but the energy inside was great. As for the food? It was okay. I got maple bourbon pork chops (pictured) and was SO excited but... the bleu cheese on top was just really overly salty. I've NEVER said something was too salty. After removing the cheese (sad!) they were fine - well cooked and good portion, but it could have been much better. The creme brûlée was passable, but not something I'd recommend. I stop in here about twice a year to get dinner and have a few drinks. Overall it is good food downtown that offers outdoor dining on the bricks in the warmer months and an intimate dining experience year round. ATMOSPHERE: First and foremost parking will be an issue. This is located on a pedestrian walkway downtown and even with a parking lot around back, things get crowded downtown during the day. You may have to do a couple of orbits to find a spot or just park on the ground floor of the parking garage downtown for hourly parking. As far as the restaurant it is a great place during warmer months to stop and eat outside on the bricks and enjoy downtown- with plenty of business people stopping for their lunch breaks here. During the winter months things can get crowded during peak hours but it's an intimate spot that has a small bar and decent dining space. (8/10) FOOD : The most important part- and I've had several different items from salads, to steaks, to crab cakes and crab dip. Overall this place is good, but honestly I cannot seem to order the right thing and or I always catch them on a bad day. Really still looking for a good meal aesthetically. (6/10) SERVICE : The waitresses and bartenders usually are on the friendlier side yet if you get there near the tail end of their operating hours service may be slow. (9/10) PRICE : this would fall under fine dining even with lunch specials and whatnot but it's not outrageous. read more

In need of a meal, we decided to hit this place for an early lunch on a Friday. It sits in a depressing area that has so much potential, but this is about the restaurant. Upon entering you have 3 choices, go downstairs to where the bar is, upstairs to where most of the tables are and there is that single table for two in the very front. I had the stuff mushrooms with hot & sweet sausage and covered in marinara sauce. I also had the grilled chicken salad with their blue cheese dressing. The salad was meh. Wasn't crazy about the chicken but the blue cheese dressing was nice. The mushrooms were the best part of my meal. One member of my party had a bun with a little crab. I think it was called a crab cake. You had to be careful, otherwise, that single bit took the crab cake. It was very pathetic. At $12, you would expect some crab. Heck, even imitation crab. The third member had a wrap that wasn't anything to write home about. Overall, we came away quite disappointed in the experience. Other than the mushrooms, the meal wasn't worth stopping for. Advice for the place, actually make a crab cake, please. One bite should not eliminate the paper-thin crab cake. read more

~$10 entrees. You get what you pay for. Definitely nothing to write home about. Ultimate Chicken sandwich is a salty breast, fired up and served on a bun. No toppings or anything included other than some mayo out of a squeeze bottle. Crab cake is 80% filler, difficult to even finish. Salmon salad is some salad with a salmon filet. Mac and cheese is definitely out of a box. I won't be coming back, especially with a few other places that are much more worth the money nearby. Dine at your own risk. read more

We were saw this beautiful outdoor seating area and ran into a server who handed us a menu. We sat outside on an 86 degree day and it was absolutely delightful in the shade. I ordered the Mediterranean Wrap and fries. My partner ordered the ultimate fried chicken and onion rings. The food took a while and our server didn't check in more than twice with us, she was still friendly though! The Mediterranean wrap was light and fresh with a bright citrus flavor. If you like your burgers with a side of hate, the ironically named "City Lights" is here for you! It looked so pretty, on a pretty street, the reviews looked pretty good, but what a major disappointment. I was there with my son when the news came out that Biden had won. We were regaled, by staff, with their very loud, nasty comments about "the Democrat (sic) party, socialism, women," etc., and were loudly called "snowflakes" for quietly expressing our happiness over the election results. It was scary and unprofessional. And the food was very ordinary and the place smelled like cleaning solution - a good thing during COVID, but not conducive to meal enjoyment. I'm a small business owner myself and I can't imagine alienating 50% of my customers by insulting them and making them feel uncomfortable! read more

Firstly, I made a Yelp just to leave this review. It's so important for me to forensically exercise my experience. Let's start with the negatives... Burnt crab cakes, potatoes that tasted like an old woman's unwashed foot, and maple pork that was as sweet as Willy Wonka's ballsack. Edible food, for a homeless man maybe. Service was lazy, lackadaisical, and practically non existent. And as I sit here in the restaurant while writing this review, the stench of maple sugar fills my nostrils with the invasive force of the Spanish Inquisition. Is it a desert or an entree? We may never know. A haunting experience only rivaled by the likes of the Amityville Horror. The total came to something like 75 dollars. If you've ever been cheated on after 10 years of marriage, i imagine seeing how expensive everything was feels the same. I left a good tip, regardless of the shitty service because it's good ju ju. I can only hope that the young lady invests in some roller skates to help her move from table to table faster. The positives? The pork was cooked nice. And that's pretty much it. Might pass as fancy and high end given it's location and lack of competition. We made reservations because everything we read and heard said it was "nice" and we dressed for the occasion as it was a birthday dinner. This was all unnecessary as the dining room wasn't full at all, yet they still gave us an odd table near the stairs to the front door along a railing and most of the other customers were dressed casually. The bread service was somewhat stale and our appetizers and entrees were "okay" but didn't demonstrate any great degree of culinary skill. My prime rib was huge, but somewhat overcooked with an odd mix of overcooked vegetables but tasted okay. Our meal wasn't bad but it wasn't stellar either, and the prices weren't awful, but they could have been executed better and wouldn't pass at all in a bigger city. It also took away from the ambiance to have all the outdoor seating stacked up inside by the front door as we were leaving, even though it was still early in the evening. Amazing quaint little place in the heart of historical downtown Cumberland. Great service and good food. Eat upstairs, ate there 3-4 times while in town; lunch or dinner. Had the chicken salad over mixed greens for lunch and the crab cakes for dinner. Had a small band playing the last night I was there(Thursday) violin, flute, accordion, & hand held type of drum(I'm not musically inclined nor do I know all the instruments).
