We were sitting right in front of the kitchen which appeared to be run by a microwave, so that's never a good sign. Twisted Oak has rapidly become my favorite place to sit and relax and have a pint on the weekend…read more It is very much a farm brewery, as you pass through barley fields on the way in, and there are hops being trellised this spring. The space is outstanding with breezy porches, outdoor fire pits, and even walking trails across the back of the property. In winter, the wood stove keeps the inside nice and toasty. The beers are good, and Jay is a skilled brewer, gradually honing his recipes to the brewhouse. (The Miss Hazy has noticably changed and improved over the past few months.) As opposed to some places with 20+ beers ranging from the odd to the excellent to simply undrinkable, Twisted Oak typically has a range of 6-8 brews on, and all of them quite good. Most importantly, the service is outstanding. Jay and Missy (owners) are welcoming, and the part time help are all friendly and it is obvious they genuinely want you to enjoy the beer and the space. And, well, the dogs and I do.

I really liked the Rueben burger. But the side of coleslaw was somewhat busy disappointing, was straight up lifeless cabbage thrown in a bowl, had no cream whatsoever. When I asked the waitress about it, she said that's how it was and nothing she could do about it. The truffle fries were much better quality side. The staff members all around were friendly. We took a turn and less than a mile off the main road was this very large footprint of a brewery. There is a huge play ground for kids, amazing views and ample outdoor seating. Lots of parking. (Unfortunately it's a cold and dreary day. So we are seated inside by the fireplace) The inside is clean, spacious and great decor. There are also a lot of sound absorbing panels which help when this place is really crowded. (I imagine). The inside is surrounded by large TVs. We are watching the Winter Olympics. Every beer we tried was excellent. We got a flight and also a sample of the cider. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The samples pours are very generous. The bathrooms are spotless. And the urinals are converted beer kegs. (Nice touch) Water is self service and readily available. The appetizers are smaller than anticipated, my only critique for our experience. The spicy cheese curds are actually spicy on the back end. I highly recommend.

Atmosphere is pretty decent, usually clean bathrooms. We've been several times. The last time we went, the food was average as well. Once inside,, the Brewery is spacious with enough seating both bar and tables for a good size group of beer dinners.  I sat at the bar and ordered a flight of all 10 beers they had on tap. All the beer at Escutcheon is drinkable, crushable and reasonably price for $6-7 a pint. And, the beer here is true to style.  No extra flavors, just good beer by the numbers. Brian was our beertender and he was great.  Thanks Brian, your sense of humor and knowledge of the beer as well as nautical terms made our night way better.  The brewers name is John and he brews clean flavors.  It is comforting when the beers taste like what they are. The BEER: Growler Kolsch 4.5% ABV... crisp and refreshing Fancy Clancy Pilsner 4.5% ABV... a light Pilsner for those Miller or Bud fans Maggie's Cream Ale 4.5% ABV... reminds me of Genesee Cream Ale, really drinkable Agonic Line Lager 5% ABV... I love this Lager, because it tastes like what it is Spica Hefeweizen 5.6% ABV... It's a not so typical hefe. Yummm... Bowditch American Pale Ale 5% ABV... APAs are not my palet, but this one was pretty good Plimsoll IPA 6.5% ABV... FIRE!!! This is delicious Slip Angle New England IPA 7% ABV... says its a NEIPA, but has the flavor profile of a west coast IPA Habermehels Oktoberfest lager 6.5 ABV... liked this One alot Annealed Coffee Stout 6.5% ABV... smells like coffee, tastes like coffee, give me some bacon and I've got breakfast For my first experience here, I was very impressed.  None of the ABVs were ridiculously high and the beers were true to their styles.  For me that was very comforting.  I am finding that here in Winchester, a night of beer drinking is Uber Affordable.  And Escutcheon is not the exception, but the rule.  If you want great beer at even greater affordability, Escutcheon is the place to visit.  I will be returning soon.
