We were sitting right in front of the kitchen which appeared to be run by a microwave, so that's never a good sign. Twisted Oak has rapidly become my favorite place to sit and relax and have a pint on the weekend…read more It is very much a farm brewery, as you pass through barley fields on the way in, and there are hops being trellised this spring. The space is outstanding with breezy porches, outdoor fire pits, and even walking trails across the back of the property. In winter, the wood stove keeps the inside nice and toasty. The beers are good, and Jay is a skilled brewer, gradually honing his recipes to the brewhouse. (The Miss Hazy has noticably changed and improved over the past few months.) As opposed to some places with 20+ beers ranging from the odd to the excellent to simply undrinkable, Twisted Oak typically has a range of 6-8 brews on, and all of them quite good. Most importantly, the service is outstanding. Jay and Missy (owners) are welcoming, and the part time help are all friendly and it is obvious they genuinely want you to enjoy the beer and the space. And, well, the dogs and I do.

I ordered the 10 jumbo wings, which were roasted style with moist soft meat inside. I got the garlic parmesan and spicy Caribbean jerk sauces on the side, but none of tasted like their names. I really liked the Rueben burger. But the side of coleslaw was somewhat busy disappointing, was straight up lifeless cabbage thrown in a bowl, had no cream whatsoever. When I asked the waitress about it, she said that's how it was and nothing she could do about it. The truffle fries were much better quality side. The staff members all around were friendly. All the beer at Escutcheon is drinkable, crushable and reasonably price for $6-7 a pint. And, the beer here is true to style.  No extra flavors, just good beer by the numbers.
