CRUSH manages to find the right blend of old and new, upscale versus cozy, not to mention the products they serve - It's much, much, more than wine, which we appreciated. I really liked the electronic menu on the tablet in terms of quick navigation to all the featured products. My one complaint is that I would have liked more information on each of the wines they served. For example, if you could tap on each wine by name and get a brief description that would have helped me. Instead, I opted for one of their many classic cocktails, in this case my traditional go-to first cocktail, a boulevardier, made very well. For an extra $2, they will smoke any drink, and the presentation is as good as the enhanced taste, if not better. I also found the cocktail prices to be quite reasonable. They have a couple of limitations when it comes to payment. We wanted to combine some cash with a credit payment, which they could not do, but we were able to resolve that among our group without problems. read more

This wine bar provided a great experience. There is an actual bar area, but most of the restaurant is set up like a living room in a good sized suburban house. So you sit at chairs or loveseats around a coffee table. Food is excellent. Tapas style, but the dishes are on the larger size for that. Check out the garlic roasted shrimp. Perfectly sauteed in olive oil with a nice smoky paprika dusted on. The garlic is there, but no overpowering. Paired with freshly baked baguette. If you love duck, the pulled confit with blackberry gastrique is def worth a try. Crispy duck with slightly sweet and tart blackberry and red wine gastrique is amazing. Wine and drinks list is solid. Service was top notch. My only gripe is use an app for reservations please. Having to phone call when someone is there is a hassle. read more

Only open for four months, but Tracy and her husband are "crushing" it! The interior is luxe and stately, the tapas menu is gourmet, and the wine list a foray into some international delights. We had five wine flights and our favorite was the Big Reds flight. We even bought the Spanish Rojia to take home. For tapas we had the Duck, Fig, and Sweet Onion Jam flatbread, Hummus, Warm Brie, Patatas Bravas, and Duo of Roasted Bone Marrow, which is a "bucket list" item for me. These were by far the most gourmet tapas I have ever had. I really just can not say enough about this place: the service, the ambiance, the selection, and the quality all merged into the pinnacle of the wine bar experience. We decided on trying Crush for the first time as a little date night. We called ahead to make sure they had room, since reservations are suggested. Upon arrival, it's a little confusing without a host stand or someone to greet you at the door. You literally walk into groups of people dining and sitting around couches right by the front door. We made our way to the back of room towards the bar and got the attention of a server. She showed us our table. A few minutes later a man who described himself as the "mixed drinks guy" brought us water. He was very friendly, but also very busy trying to help the other server. We then waited for over 15 minutes for anyone to come back to the table. (We thought about just leaving). There were two tablets (iPads) on our table, neither would turn on, so we couldn't look at the menu. I love the idea of an electronic menu, but a QR code would be a much better idea. When the server finally came back to our table she said very bluntly "Are you ready to order?" There was no No welcome and no apology for the wait, even after telling her we had never dined at Crush before. I said that we hadn't been able to look at a menu, and her response was "They're right in front of you". We should have left then, but we had been looking forward to a kid free night and my husband and I have both worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years so I wanted to give the staff the benefit of the doubt because they did seem overwhelmed and under staffed. She finally got one of the tablets to work so we could decide on a bottle of wine and some food. We ordered the Tannat from Briede Vineyards, which was served slightly chilled- I've never had Tannat served chilled so that was odd to me. Also surprising was that with the very large wine selection listed the only Virginia Winery on the menu was Briede. Being a wine bar and within minutes of multiple EXCELLENT Virginia wineries, you would think there would be more options from local wineries. Our food was very good and you can tell the chef takes pride in creating a menu with lots of flavorful options. We ordered the Petit Tender and Bleu Cheese Crostini- fabulous and the Seared Scallops with Peach reduction- scallops were smaller than expected, but again very good. For dessert we had chocolate truffles- nothing fabulous or amazing, 4 small truffles like out of a candy box. Overall the atmosphere was stuffy, the female server was not friendly, but the food was very good. I would try it again, but I'm not running back. It was not a good first impression. read more

My wife and I went to Crush during opening week. We weren't sure what to expect because there wasn't a lot of information online about this wine bar. After finding it in Creekside Station (right near the Subaru dealership) we were greeted with a very different type of bar/restaurant. Very cozy atmosphere with plenty of comfy couches, nice rustic decor and dim lighting. We took a seat at the bar and were greeted by one of the managers, Tom. The menu is all on an iPad, no traditional menu here. The limited menu on the iPad was nice with friendly descriptions of the wine,beer and small plates. My wife got a white wine flight and we weren't too pleased with the amount of wine poured in each glass. Barely two-three good sips. We've had much better flight amounts at other bars. The wines themselves were very good though. Wine by the glass seems to range from $6-20. We asked for water and were brought bottled still water ($5). We ordered a baguette with olive oil and cracked pepper, only to find out that the menus was incorrect and the baguettes were not served with oil?? Strange. The tapas selection was limited in my opinion and I hope they add more filling food items. My wife and I planned on eating here but were disappointed with the food the offered. There were plenty of cheeses and vegetables to choose from but nothing filling. Maybe add some small plates like meatballs & ricotta, stuffed mushrooms, traditional wood fired wings or lettuce wraps. This is a perfect place to have dinner at home or another restaurant and then go grab a few glasses of wine with friends. There were trivia cards at the tables which could be a lot of fun for a group of friends. This wine bar definitely has great potential and we will be back in the future to give it another try but they need to improve in many areas to gain a better rating from me. read more

The food here is the best I have ever eaten in my life. My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and it was awesome. Shane greeted us with the warmest smile. He was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We sat at the bar and Brandon was our server. He was also extremely kind and knowledgeable. For beverages we tried the Negroni, the Bees Knees, an Absinthe drink called death in the afternoon, the Crush signature cocktail, and a lovely dessert wine. They were all delicious. For food we had the scallops, pork belly, duck confit with blackberry, garlic shrimp, and the summer squash flatbread. Everything was amazing. The scallops were to die for!! Wow, what a find! This place has been around more than a year and I just found out about it, and boy am I glad I did. Crush fills a BIG gap in food and wine pairings in Winchester to begin with, but boy do they take it up a notch. Over 100 wines from all regions and all varietals and a sharp-eyed sommelier behind the bar to give you the accurate 411 on each one. Then you have over 40 tapas plates and desserts to choose from (including two different escargot plates) which are imaginative and well designed to bring out the combined flavor of the ingredients. Try the Marmelada Tomate con Queso de Cabra, the Shishito Peppers or my favorite (so far) the Duck Confit and Fois Gras, a truly delicious combination. And you can always ask Tom behind the bar which wine to pair with each plate. He does not disappoint. In addition to all this, the decor is amazing. Reminded me of the small, out-of-the-way bars I hung out at in the Sachsenhausen section of Frankfurt, Germany back in the 1970's. Really intimate, with small areas with couches and lounge chairs which add a special charm. Was fortunate enough to meet the owners the night I was there and they are great people who have the absolutely best attitude towards their restaurant and what it should be and is today. When we walked into the door, the gentleman basically stopped us at the door and ask what can I do for you? I said we wanted to order some drinks, We were surprised because we thought he would say " welcome to crush or "I'll be right with you" so we were taken aback. I asked if we may bring my grand daughter in and he said sure that's fine but all I have is a hightop table and we stop serving at 8:pm, I asked what time they closed and he replied 9:00 pm. I looked at two vacant spaces with couches and chairs. I said, can we have that space. He stated in an exasperated tone that we normally needed a reservation for the space and he would need a minute to clean it, he turned to walk away, I informed him that he did not make us feel welcome and we will be leaving, he continued walking away and said "okay". They play jazz music, have an expansive wine list with knowledgeable staff to walk you through it based off your taste and price point. We came in, husband ordered a beer (the beer is cheap here!) And i ordered a flight after talking with our server. As we sipped, we ordered the bone marrow dish and a duck confit and fois gras on crostada. It was SO GOOD! Oh what a find . Had a very hard time on choosing what I wanted to eat. So many different and unique items on their menu. I started out with a flight of white wine, which allowed me to choose my favorite, which I ordered a bottle of had a glass there and took the bottle with me loved it. I had a very hard time choosing but ordered the escargot had these in Paris Las summer and these were just as good of not better, what a treat. I also ordered the pulpo (octopus) this was delicious I would definitely order either of them again. I pass through Winchester 2-3 times a year and will definitely come again. Wait staff very friendly and acomadating, would highly recommend. I was in Paris , France last year and your escargot certainly can compete with what I had there. Go there. Tonight! More than 100 wines organized into flights, if you like, so you can taste and pair with the chef's fresh, luxurious small bites. Wine flights are available by region and by varietal. Or you can create your own flights. I enjoyed a flight of pre-selected pinot noirs while my husband ordered a flight of whites from around the world. The flights are arranged in ascending order leading up to the most full-bodied wine. The menus include tasting notes, but we were deep in conversation and neglected them. All wines sold in flights are also available by the glass or bottle. We ordered the mushroom gruyere flatbread, a smoked salmon crostini (one of 5 smoked salmon choices), and my favorite, a concoction of fried quail egg, a bite sized piece of cured beef, and soft tangy cheese stacked on a piece of fresh baked crusty baguette. Heaven, especially paired with the two Oregon pinots in my flight. The flatbread was topped with micro greens and tasted more complex than it looked. My husband reported the smoked salmon went amazingly well with his lightest Riesling. The atmosphere is that of a cozy den decorated with a bit of speakeasy flair. Lamps, not overhead lighting. Upholstered furniture, area rugs, and cocktail tables. Chairs and sofas are arranged for conversation, perfect for small groups of 4-5. There are a few high 2-top tables for duos, and a long bar facing a wall of wine selections. Crush is that place where you go for warm, convivial conversations with people you are closest to--or people you want to be closer to. I'm told it's getting so popular that it's pretty crowded on weekends, but on a Wednesday night in early December (our ninth wedding anniversary), most of the seating was full except for the bar. We moved to Winchester two years ago after living in and enjoying the amazing restaurant scene in Baltimore for many years.
