I was traveling to Martinsburg to spend time with my best friend. I wanted to treat her for her birthday, so I looked up a upscale restaurant that does wine tasting and Brix27 popped up. When we arrived, we were greeted by the host and she sat us down. I really loved the aesthetic of the rustic look. Our sever was sweet and eager to explain all the specials and deals they had. They also gave my best friend a glass of champagne for her birthday. We ordered the following: - Deviled Eggs- these were so good that we ordered it twice! Creamy and warm - Brussels Sprouts- So sweet and loved the texture - Hot Honey Shrimp- Spectacular! - Pepperoni Flatbread- That was ate up in seconds - The Sweetheart wine flight- We loved it - Salmon Risotto- Salmon was perfect. Oh My Goodness! This was our first time going, and I certainly hope it won't be our last! We came for my 71st Birthday dinner, and the food was not a disappointment! The Greek Salad, Truffle Fries and Flourless Chocolate Cake were the standouts tonight. But also let me "shout out" to the Hostess working tonight. She alone made the entire evening inviting! She was kind, friendly and compassionate. Our server, was upbeat, and simply wonderful! And the sweet chef... He reminded me of our youngest son. Friendly and appreciative for our words of praise regarding our meal prep. Just to be clear on the staff, since I neglected to gather names... we were there tonight, arrived shortly before 8:00, and dined until 9:20. The atmosphere of the restaurant gives an upscale vibe, but they put up with our unexpected, casual dress. We spent the day in Harper's Ferry, and headed directly to the restaurant from there. Restaurant was clean and booths were comfortable. Two notes: music was a bit too loud (I'm hard of hearing and had trouble hearing my husband and wait staff over it) and the ladies room is tired... definitely time for a refresh. Neither of these would keep us from returning. Notes: I'm a difficult dinner. I know this going in and tell the staff. I have a myriad of food and other severe allergies and they were patient, kind and helpful with choices. They handled a minor unexpected glitch, with absolute professionalism and panache! Lovely restaurant/bar in Martinsburg with delicious cocktails and food. There were so many interesting and good sounding cocktails that it was hard to pick two - we did the Raspberry Bramble and Berry Margarita, both of which were delicious. They also offered wine flights plus there is a boutique wine store. We had the Tuna Crudo Tower and Roasted Brussel Sprouts. The tuna was nice and fresh with a good portion plus plenty of rice (the spicy kimchi rice wasn't spicy which was good), cucumbers and wonton crisps. The Brussels Sprouts came in a really nice size portion and was tender with some crunch too. I had the Apple and Goat Cheese Flatbread which was really delicious; I would come back just to get that. My husband got the Braised Short Ribs which was really good as well. The Flourless Chocolate Cake might have looked like a big brownie but it was much better with a delicious, cool, rich chocolate flavor. Only thing that we could wish for would have been some vanilla ice cream. Riley was our waitress who was friendly, efficient and gave us good recommendations when we had trouble deciding. I appreciated the male bartender who offered me a bag for our leftover containers as we started to walk out. Delicious food, drinks and nice staff. The service was really sweet but the food has a lot of kinks to iron out. I get that you want to create an upscale experience. Though it's rather odd that your wine list is only accessible through a QR code. Fonts on the site are so massive it makes the list really hard to scan. Minor things. The charcuterie board, though? Cheese had still the wax layer on it, bread was weird brioche mini croissants that were stale, some aged Gouda, a very very garlicy soft cheese of sort (chèvre?), and what seemed liked 3 types of store bought salami. And all of this is fair if you didn't charge $25 or so for it. That's just unfair. Talking about garlic. Everything had so much garlic, like, overpowering amounts of garlic. A side of carrots with massive chunks of garlic where you cannot taste anything but the garlic. Pasta with tons of garlic. And a margarita flatbread 'pizza' (which, in all fairness, wasn't called a pizza) that should have had basil on it but came with rucola leaves instead. No explanation. The sweet potato mash had so many pockets of salt, unevenly distributed, that it was, despite its decent consistency, off-putting. Has potential, but either the chefs are overworked, there's not good quality control, or someone isn't tasting the food that they're serving. read more

Brix 27 is SO GOOD. We went for a friend's birthday dinner and the service and food were both amazing. Our only complaint was that the upstairs where we were seated was very hot. But our server took care of it by opening the door to allow in a nice cool breeze. The food was phenomenal! We had the baked brie special, the focaccia bread service (the jam and olive oil butter were too good), the deviled eggs, the corn chowder (so packed with flavor we passed it around so we all got to enjoy it) and we shared 3 flat breads (hot Hawaiian, apple and goat cheese & margarita) and the pear salad. Every part of the meal was amazing. The bar was also a great experience! The wine flight was off healthy portions; the espresso and key lime martinis were SO good and the bees' knees was perfect! Brix is always a delight to eat and has only improved with time. We had braised short ribs and a flatbread. The short ribs were tender and delicious and went perfectly with the sauce and risotto. The flatbread was a really expensive pizza. It was good but probably not what I would order again. The waiter was also very pleasant and attentive and the food food came out quickly. I had dinner with the company I consult at Brie 27. Neat place. Friendly staff. Great service. There were 30 people for this meal. I had beef rib surrounded by creamy sweet potato. It was delicious. Very tender. The dessert was a brownie with whipped cream which was ok. Our menu was limited since the meal was paid by one of the companies we represent. I was told it was a pricey meal. We had our own room that was large with a very high ceiling. Brick walls. I found it unique. On street parking. Full bar...the drinks were coming out frequently to everyone. We were so happy to find something that wasn't a dreary mediocre chain restaurant. We found Brix 27 and it was absolutely wonderful. Here is my wife's synopsis. I could not agree more. We ate at Brix 27 on November 24 , 2025 . While traveling to North Carolina for Thanksgiving with family, we stopped for an overnight in Martinsburg, WV, land of every fast food and chain restaurant known to mankind. We did not feel like eating at any of them. So we sourced out Brix 27 in downtown Martinsburg, which miraculously was open on a Monday night. A spacious, handsome restaurant, we were very pleased we tried it out. We enjoyed street corn soup, charred corn, cotija, cilantro, crema drizzle and paprika oil. Very tasty! and fresh and crunchy with whole kernels of corn. Our dainty eater enjoyed as her meal the lamb meatballs, savory with chimichurri, cucumber sauce and warm pita bread, a generous 3 meatballs. Our only quibble was, the meatballs were a little dense and could have been looser in texture, but otherwise a very tasty dish. And the other course was braised short rib with sweet potato puree, heirloom carrots and rich bordelaise sauce, quite yummy to the carrot lover of our table. The sweet potato puree was superb. Just barely sweet with some really nice savory herb touches. In addition, we each enjoyed a glass of wine, which we chose from an iPad list that presented several options, with the opportunity to click on each choice and learn more about the wine. Overpriced rich-people food. Which is to say its not especially good or flavorful or generous, but it is expensive and presented nicely. They charge 10 dollars for bread that should be free. They charge 68 dollars for a tiny steak thats no better than a 20 dollar one at any other restaurant, and it doesn't taste any better. They do have gobs of overpriced wine. The crab macaroni was a much better deal. Its a large bowl, it tastes great, and was only 18 dollars. Desserts were also small and overpriced. Service was top notch. Worthy of a fancy rich-people restaurant. Sides were small and the potatoes were bland. This is a nice treat if you have money to burn. But theres better food at a better price in many other Martinsburg locales. I won't return but I also won't tell anyone to avoid it. Hubs and I came here for an anniversary dinner, and enjoyed it immensely. The restaurant had a big open airiness to it, so we immediately felt welcome and appreciative of the ambience. We started with a lager for him and the berry mule for me. I asked for a little extra "berry" since the vodka was a bit overpowering in the drink. That's a good problem to have, imo, and they were very nice about topping up the juice. Delicious. We decided to test out the truffle fries, and the portion was huge and very shareable. We both enjoyed the flavor (and devoured them quickly), but thought a little more crispiness would not have gone awry. We went for the flatbread pizza as entree, and I was so full from the fries and drink I only managed two pieces. The taste was spot on, though. We brought home the extras for weekend snacking. Score. We finished by sharing an apple tart with ice cream for dessert. I was busy yakking away to our waiter when I looked back and most of the tart had already found its way down someone else's gullet. Among other culinary favs, the smoked caesar salad, truffle fries and red wine selection are definitely my vices. However, tonight I decided to try the filet mignon. My imagination could not touch the reality of the flavor and tenderness of the filet mignon! Cooked to perfection, with what appeared to be lightly sprinkled kosher salt, the filet melted in my mouth - every bite literally demanded that I have one more bite! I have had filet mignon at other "chain" fine dining restaurants; however, NONE have been as tender, flavorful and juicy as the filet mignon I had tonight! The mashed potato puree that accompanied the filet was also perfection - silky smooth and lightly salted so that the potato flavor shined through. I opted for a light ale to accompany dinner, Cougar Bait. Excellent choice as it did not overpower the amazing meal! To wrap this dining experience, I opted for the housemade New York cheesecake. A beautiful restaurant in downtown Martinsburg. It has a large, airy vibe with lots of tables and a big open bar. We got seated right away at the bar. They have wine flights for $15 for 3 and you can get all different regions. I picked a Spain red flight and it was really good. They also have some tasty cocktails and a huge bourbon selection. When we walked in, the hostess was not very personable and did not seem to be wearing appropriate attire for the style of the restaurant! Told her we had a reservation....she looked and saw we wanted a booth and asked if we wanted to sit at a table instead...I booked a booth, seat me at a booth! But the Calamari tasted as if someone marinated them in salt, dusted them with more salt, then fried them in salt oil. I instantly felt dehydrated after eating a few! We also ordered a Margherita Flatbread that was NOT even as good as the cheesy breadsticks at Little Caesar's! My Brix 27 Old Fashion was delicious, and my wife's wine flight was great as well! She ordered a glass of one of the flight wines and it came less than 1/2 the glass....it had about as much as one of the flight glasses! Should've just spent the extra dollar and got another flight!!! This was our first time, and our last and I thought I was going to be exceptionally surprised on our 21st wedding anniversary, but no, we were just VERY DISAPPOINTED! This is our 5th trip to Brix 27, and unfortunately our worst experience. Not completely terrible, but for what you pay, the food should be much better. I started with the Calamari and both my wife and I found it to be inedible because it was so salty, plus it seemed to have an ammonia taste to it. We had the Calamari the night before at the Thai restaurant, and the difference was night and day. The dipping sauce was also way too salty to eat. We sent it back. My wife had the Pecan Pear Salad and said that it was great. She also had the Salmon over a mushroom pea risotto. She said that the Salmon was cooked properly but the risotto was under done. I tasted it also, and it was under cooked and not very creamy. Very disappointed in the risotto. I had the Braised Short Ribs. They were tender and tasty. The sauce was again very salty. The Sweet Potato puree was good and fortunately countered the salty sauce. The last time we ate here, we found some of the food to be way to salty. The chef needs to quit smoking or start tasting the food. This is sad because I doubt be back. There's way too many options to continue to get salty food. We have been coming here for years. It was the best place to get a glass of wine and a bite while passing the area. More recently the experience has declined. The wine menu is rather limited for a wine bar, though pour variety is an option and a good way to really try à lot of their selection. It would be nice if their selection rotated, I visit often and theres not much that changes or evolves. **please note, thé staff is not educated on the selection, have your phone ready. I have recommended Brix to friends ànd théy were completely lost.** The food is where I see the biggest plateau. We have tried the Tuna Tower = twas unremarkable, looked better in the picture / way too much rice, the "Bay & Cue Shrimp" were the biggest disappointment ...$28 for a big tray of ice with cold shrimp and three basic accoutrement; cocktail sauce, old bay powder and a thick mayo-y sauce that was maybe thé Alabama white sauce? It was bland. Like a deconstructed shrimp cocktail but I wouldn't have ever ordered a shrimp cocktail much less a deconstructed one. Unless that is your preference - then you'd love it. Thé Brussels sprouts are always phenomenal and so was the Charred Caesar. Those two remind me of old Brix, circa 2018. We then had the flatbread, it was ok - because all flatbreads are ok - but it wasn't really mind blowing. We shared the mussels and they disappointed too. They were bland, like they were in a stock without salt, barely any broth, thé meat was dry. Very dry ànd very shocking for Brix' usual quality and flavor. We split the filet, why did it come sliced?!? For a market price of $60 it wasn't worth it at all, or the pool of heaped mashed potatoes - also dry and no salt. What is that? All in all, having come here a couple times a year...for many years now, anytime we drive through the area, we were rather disappointed the last couple visits. It used to be a delightful experience and now it seems like you're paying for far more than you get. Service = 1/5, they are nice but they know nothing. No wine knowledge, barely any beer knowledge, basic cocktails and a very faked idea of "recommendation". Food = 2/5, edible & obviously better than some of the local grease traps but vastly over priced for mediocre Americana smothered in oil or potatoes Wine = 2/5, this is where "quantity over quality" was borne. And I loved this place when it opened. But the wine list is stale, thé varietals could be more creative in variety, staff needs training (this is the biggest issue), ànd glassware should be polished, twice now, two significant occasions I have sent wine back for the pure amount of dust and detritus in ànd on the glass. And I don't do that..:.it was just that gross. Ambience 4/5, we love it here. Theres not much in the dirty burg. But we lived here in 2016 and we travel through often so we stop. Five start service! As always Connie is an amazing server, and we can't say enough good things about her! She is attentive and ensures that we not only are enjoying our food and drinks, but that there is nothing else she can get for us and if there is an issue she is quick to correct it. Patrick is also great, and always stops by multiple times to get feedback on our experience at Brix. Now on to the food. We have been consistent customers for years and have watched both the quality and consistency slowly decline. I'm not sure if the changing of the chef has something to do with it, but sadly it was much better before. Tonight I ordered the House Caesar Salad, an item I've ordered several times in the past. However, for some reason the salad didn't have any croutons. Had I not added chicken, it would have been lettuce with some dressing for $12. Checking the menu it appears that the salad no longer comes with croutons as it was replaced with powdered gremolata. Not sure why they were removed, as this is a staple ingredient for a Caesar salad. We are big fans of Brix, and want nothing more than for this place to be successful, but sadly something has to change. read more
