I came here 6 years ago and returned this year and am a fan. You are served in a cozy inn and my server was awesome. Dinner is a 4 course meal. I had a beet salad, butternut soup, choice of gnocchi or filet, dessert (choose of cake or cheese). Everything was good. I do this the price tag of $85 is a lot. Breaking it down it is $15 salad, $15 soup, $15 dessert, $40 entree. I go to a lot of nicer restaurants and I think this cost is a bit high and I wouldn't pay this much for this quality but the meal and staff are great. Everything I ate was really good. Breakfast is 2 courses: sweet than savory. Really good too. I didn't like the coffee, it was a bit sour? But if I was staying at this Inn again I would have dinner again.

Redbook had been on our list of restaurants that we wanted to visit since we moved to the area in 2016. My husband took me here for my birthday in November 2020 and we were so looking forward to a night of fine dining. The location was gorgeous and the restaurant was set up lovely. But unfortunately we were left very disappointed by this "fine dining" restaurant. The server was not well versed on the wine list or the cocktails and disappeared to give us answers and never returned until it was too late and we gave up asking. Our cocktails were very nice. The salads were mediocre but pleasant. The soup was delicious. Our mains were average - I had the scallops, my husband had the filet. The chocolate dessert course was the highlight to my husbands meal. My cheese course was embarrassing - a single sweaty piece of cheese and condiments... cannot really be called a cheese course when there was more bread and mustard than cheese. I wish I had ordered the chocolate dessert. The main issue we found was that it was a very fast paced meal, and felt as though they wanted to get us out as soon as they possible could. Not a great feeling for the money you spend. Then at the end of the meal, our server gave us the check and disappeared and never returned; we had to track him down and found all the servers chatting in a corner. For a fine dining establishment in a beautiful location, we expected more. I suggest that they educate their staff more, and slow down the meal progression to make it more enjoyable and worthwhile. Especially as we are local residents and wanted to make this location a regular venue for special occasions. But things need to improve for us to come back.

Redbook Restaurant is FABULOUS! The chef exceeds our expectations every time. Can't beat the beautiful, romantic setting in Hillbrook Inn!

Our menu for the night - everything was so good! Dessert also came with a portion of bananas foster!

One of the more reasonably priced, without skimping on taste, 5 course meals you will have! We stayed at Hillbrook for the weekend and decided to try their restaurant for dinner and are so glad we did. Every course was to die for (see picture for the menu we had), the location is beautiful, the service was great and the wine was flowing. We decided not to do the wine pairing but instead ordered two bottles (for the same price) then took what we had left back to our room. Although it's part of your experience if you stay at Hillbrook Inn, the breakfast from Redbook was so good too! First they served this vanilla and lemon custard with strawberries then thick toast with delicious sausage, cherry tomatoes and topped with a poached egg. Even if you don't stay at Hillbrook (although you should!) definitely have dinner at Redbook!

Every single course was a HIT. So so so good! Amazing staff and gorgeous decor/environment. If you want a classy meal and experience and don't mind paying the price for it, this is the perfect place for you!

The Redbook Restaurant is in the amazing Hillbrook Inn & Spa. The Hillbrook has so much charm and beautiful scenery, we are excited to go back for a stay. The redbook is their "fine dining" restaurant and it is absolutely worth the trip. It is a chefs tasting menu with 5 courses for $79 a person (+$30 a person for wine pairings). We were very impressed with all but 1 of our courses. The butternut squash soup, steak, and pork belly were all DELICIOUS! The chefs menu changes every night. We would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious, unique dining experience in Charles Town. Service was also great. Dress code is business casual or nicer.

Jack was our server and he had a sweet young lady shadowing him in training. Service was friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. The meatloaf was well seasoned and had been griddled and covered in gravy with homestyle mashed (with small lumps.) The chicken and dumplings soup was well seasoned and with big chunks of chicken and carrots. Our small person was delighted that she could swap her fries for mash and had her choice of gravies. The teen was defeated by the enormous French dip and fries. He practically drank the au jus. Everyone was full until they heard there was a smith island cake (many thin layered cake with chocolate icing and white chocolate curls. Three forks made quick work of the big slice. We would happily stop in on our next time thru town.

The food came excellent! Thank you to the kitchen!! We placed the order and the tuna steak came out excellent! However the burger was stupid raw!!!! I asked to not get another since our children had eaten their food already and they enjoyed it! Thank you once again to the kitchen!! The evening was beautiful, the restaurant was as quaint as you would expect!! The tuna was cooked PERFECT! Thank you to the kitchen staff!!! I asked for the check and paid it ....(despite the fact that the waiter disappeared for over 15 mins and I had to walk to the bar to ask for it!!) Left a tip and then proceeded to leave the restaurant and head to our car since both kids hadn't slept and it was past 8 pm (when I overheard the following...) Once again the server was kind and charismatic despite ignoring us in an empty restaurant where she had 3 tables when we arrived and two when we left. As we were walking out of the restaurant, the server, had the stones to show my signed check, with a 10% tip, as was warranted after ignoring us, serving me raw food and not coming back for along time.... (Sorry kitchen but the raw burger was on you for this one!) And she, had the gall to brag to another table of patrons, showing the receipt in my wife's face, that were taking away from her money, when she provided poor service!! I wouldn't dream of having her fired, hence the reason I'll never name her. " she might have had a bad day!", BUT I want her to learn a lesson about treating every customer with respect! My wife and kids didn't deserve a poor experience for our first time in your restaurant! Be kind. Be loving and understanding! Everyone can have hardships in life, as we all do, but if you're in this industry, be kind, be watchful and give a care about your job!! You never know the negative impact you can leave for fellow strangers, especially little children that enjoyed Harper's Ferry for the first time! Overall, the restaurant is excellent, food is excellent and the vibe is 8/10!

The bartender who initially helped me never came back, and I ended up waiting until 5:02 before flagging down someone else just to get my check. What made it feel off was that I seemed to be the only person of color at the bar, and while I was being overlooked, other guests were consistently being checked on and served. I can't say for sure what the reason was, but the difference in attention was noticeable. I had planned to order more (crab cakes and shepherd's pie), but after being ignored that long, I decided against it. Overall, a disappointing experience.

We walked in and were greeted by many workers, a clean restaurant (With an ACTUALLY nice bathroom {Shocker!} and a sign that told us they had FIREWORK WAFFLES!? That sounds amazing! It's a Normal waffle that you can upgrade for only $1 (I know I was being impulsed but it was really good) to get pop rocks and vanilla clusters in the colors of red, white, and blue. Definitely recommend that. After being seated I noticed that the staff were especially nice and came over to our table frequently. I appreciated that the kitchen was right next to us and we could see they were cooking the whole time with no delay, proving that those who say that they microwave everything are wrong. They worked the whole time diligently. After not even 5 minutes our food came out. As I already mentioned, we had the firework waffle, which was really good. The egg they gave us was average and the hash browns were pretty good as well. I also had a piece of toast with the meal and what can I say about that, umm, it's bread. While we were staying at the Airbnb right next door, we saw that the Waffle House was packed on Friday, but Saturday it was practically empty. We did come at 8:00 but still, if you come early you can beat the crowd. Apparently during the school year the college students at Liberty University like to come there so this House will be packed. "But as for me and my house we will serve the LORD"Joshua 24:15 says which goes along with the word house. I don't know but it felt connected.
