I came here 6 years ago and returned this year and am a fan. You are served in a cozy inn and my server was awesome. Dinner is a 4 course meal. I had a beet salad, butternut soup, choice of gnocchi or filet, dessert (choose of cake or cheese). Everything was good. I do this the price tag of $85 is a lot. Breaking it down it is $15 salad, $15 soup, $15 dessert, $40 entree. I go to a lot of nicer restaurants and I think this cost is a bit high and I wouldn't pay this much for this quality but the meal and staff are great. Everything I ate was really good. Breakfast is 2 courses: sweet than savory. Really good too. I didn't like the coffee, it was a bit sour? But if I was staying at this Inn again I would have dinner again.

Redbook had been on our list of restaurants that we wanted to visit since we moved to the area in 2016. My husband took me here for my birthday in November 2020 and we were so looking forward to a night of fine dining. The location was gorgeous and the restaurant was set up lovely. But unfortunately we were left very disappointed by this "fine dining" restaurant. The server was not well versed on the wine list or the cocktails and disappeared to give us answers and never returned until it was too late and we gave up asking. Our cocktails were very nice. The salads were mediocre but pleasant. The soup was delicious. Our mains were average - I had the scallops, my husband had the filet. The chocolate dessert course was the highlight to my husbands meal. My cheese course was embarrassing - a single sweaty piece of cheese and condiments... cannot really be called a cheese course when there was more bread and mustard than cheese. I wish I had ordered the chocolate dessert. The main issue we found was that it was a very fast paced meal, and felt as though they wanted to get us out as soon as they possible could. Not a great feeling for the money you spend. Then at the end of the meal, our server gave us the check and disappeared and never returned; we had to track him down and found all the servers chatting in a corner. For a fine dining establishment in a beautiful location, we expected more. I suggest that they educate their staff more, and slow down the meal progression to make it more enjoyable and worthwhile. Especially as we are local residents and wanted to make this location a regular venue for special occasions. But things need to improve for us to come back.

Redbook Restaurant is FABULOUS! The chef exceeds our expectations every time. Can't beat the beautiful, romantic setting in Hillbrook Inn!

Every single course was a HIT. So so so good! Amazing staff and gorgeous decor/environment. If you want a classy meal and experience and don't mind paying the price for it, this is the perfect place for you!

Our menu for the night - everything was so good! Dessert also came with a portion of bananas foster!

One of the more reasonably priced, without skimping on taste, 5 course meals you will have! We stayed at Hillbrook for the weekend and decided to try their restaurant for dinner and are so glad we did. Every course was to die for (see picture for the menu we had), the location is beautiful, the service was great and the wine was flowing. We decided not to do the wine pairing but instead ordered two bottles (for the same price) then took what we had left back to our room. Although it's part of your experience if you stay at Hillbrook Inn, the breakfast from Redbook was so good too! First they served this vanilla and lemon custard with strawberries then thick toast with delicious sausage, cherry tomatoes and topped with a poached egg. Even if you don't stay at Hillbrook (although you should!) definitely have dinner at Redbook!

The Redbook Restaurant is in the amazing Hillbrook Inn & Spa. The Hillbrook has so much charm and beautiful scenery, we are excited to go back for a stay. The redbook is their "fine dining" restaurant and it is absolutely worth the trip. It is a chefs tasting menu with 5 courses for $79 a person (+$30 a person for wine pairings). We were very impressed with all but 1 of our courses. The butternut squash soup, steak, and pork belly were all DELICIOUS! The chefs menu changes every night. We would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious, unique dining experience in Charles Town. Service was also great. Dress code is business casual or nicer.

Catered well to the 6 different tastes that surrounded our table. Everyone wanted something different and the Lodge handled it perfectly. Highly recommend the family sampler for a starter.

Made a reservation not like you really need one, but we made one and was seated down pretty quickly. The host was nice and friendly and the wait staff said hello to us within the five minutes of us seating. I appreciated how family-friendly this place was, they give these cute little animal boxes with different things inside and crayons to keep the kids entertained. The decoration is fun with a lot of outdoor vibes and stuffed real animals. They bring out a side of chip and a yogurt dill dip that's interesting, a fun idea. The food, mhm so we ordered a lot! Crab dip: 2.5/5 not too bad but not memorable, okay amount of crab, flavors were too heavy on the cream cheese/fillers but just okay, they need more bread with it but the chips helped. Prob wouldn't order again Crab cake: 3.8/5 pretty good size and good amount of crab and good flavor probably the best dish that we had ordered here! Would get again. Burger: 3/5 granted I did order this medium well for my kid, but the burger was charred a little too much around the burger, giving it a sort of dry crunch on the edges and charcoal burn vibes. Not my favorite texture that I would want on a burger, but perhaps it would've been different if I ordered a medium? Bread itself was a little stale/crunchy which I did not prefer how it was cooked/prepared. Overall, it was just okay. Ribs: 2.5/5 the ribs were half off ribs so I decided to go for it because of the good deal. But it was just okay, being that Blackhog barbecue is right next-door (thier dry rub ribs are amazing), I would hope that they would step up their barbecue rib game. For a " full rack" there were only nine bones and seemed a little smaller than what I'm used to. It's very heavy on the sauce which I didn't think was the best pairing and wasn't the best flavor bbq sauce. Overall, I wouldn't order it again. Steak kabob: 3.2/5 this was actually pretty tender for the cut of meat, I'm surprised that I didn't have to work for it so I was happy about that! The only criticism that we have is that the meat itself did not have that much flavor or seasoning and there's only one skewer of meat and one skewer of veggies. Meaning the total amount of meat that was probably on that dish was no more than 4 -5 ounces of steak. And for that price point, I would want a little bit more meat. Mac and Cheese: 3.5/5 pretty good for a kids Mac! Good cheese and flavor was impressed! Overall, the service and the host in the experience of being there was pretty good, but the food was a little lacking not sure if I would go again, but it was on our right experience in terms of food

I proceeded to tell Anthony that I'd come back when they opened in an hour or so. I'm so glad that I did. The decor was really pretty, the booth has high back seating , of which was spacious and comfy. "Gigi" was our server and she was amazing, professional and courteous! Now let's get into this food ! I ordered the 169z ribeye (medium) , and it was delicious. I can definitely appreciate when a restaurant gets my-medium steak cooked medium. The steak was juicy & flavorful ! My husband ordered the bison ribeye and it was soooo delicious ! I didn't know what to expect because I haven't had bison before but it far exceeded my expectations !

The prices for the food quality don't match, honestly the service is great but the meat isn't great…read morequality and they only broil which apparently means they can't get a good sear and keep temp... I went here 3 times and the third was the worst and last. I was served water that tasted metallic and it really soured my stomach. I was belching/ and had to run to the bathroom to vomit volcano fire from whatever was in the water. It was not water, it was either standing in some chemical or musty because I am allergic to mold but I don't know how mold would get into a fresh pitcher of water. I told them and they smelled it and said it did smell strange and they gave me a bottle of regular water, which was a little bizarre because they initially asked if I wanted sparkling and I said yes because my stomach was already burning and feeling belchy after the few sips of the nasty water..and sparking can help me with the unpleasant feeling... But whatever. The water was sitting on a cart in a metal canister and they poured it over ice, no idea what went to straight metallic nasty flavor and sickening me but water definitely wouldn't cause that! I ordered the same meal 3 times I went . The first time the meat was ok, I sent back for a better sear. Somehow they properly seared it and it was actually decent. Second time meat tasted sour. Like vinegar soaked sour. I have no idea what it was I kept wondering what they marinated it in because it's not supposed to be marinated and they said nothing... so somehow it tasted like a balsamic vinegar mostly on the bottom area but apparently nothing was on it ..I sent it back and just ate bone marrow. Third time it was edible but not really flavorful and definitely more like a choice steak I'd get from Martin's...I had bone marrow and they're good but last time it was unsalted and it was really brown and no white which was strange, tasted ok though visually odd. It's not worth the price they are charging. I only used my points. Also I was se The end point was the cheesecake I was excited about but it was pretty terrible. The crust has copius spice of ginger and who knows what but it's nasty and mushy I thought nutmeg at first and I'm allergic luckily I didn't have any severe reactions. The cheese part is weirdly fluffy and just not really creamy very strange texture for cheesecake, definitely not nasty like local store sugary cheesecake but also nothing like real bakery cheesecake or ones I've homemade. I wondered if it was fresh or not the bottom was rather soggy. I think it's full of flour or starch and mostly a heavy cream or something, there was very little cheese flavor and nothing else really no vanilla or amaretto or any of the usual flavors.
