Stopped in around 4 PM and sat at the bar. Ordered a beer and fries, which were fine, but after that the service dropped off completely. The bartender who initially helped me never came back, and I ended up waiting until 5:02 before flagging down someone else just to get my check. What made it feel off was that I seemed to be the only person of color at the bar, and while I was being overlooked, other guests were consistently being checked on and served. I can't say for sure what the reason was, but the difference in attention was noticeable. I had planned to order more (crab cakes and shepherd's pie), but after being ignored that long, I decided against it. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

Grabbed lunch with a friend this week. We asked to be seated on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. We were quickly seated at a table with an umbrella which was wonderful. We ordered drinks and the soft pretzel appetizer. The jumbo pretzels are served with pub cheese and mustard! YUM! I opted for the classic chicken tenders which did not disappoint. I will say, there was a bit of a pest problem on the patio. *BEWARE* SEVERAL wasps and bees flying around us, our meals, and our table. Our server was just ok, not super personable. Fridays is (are?) Steak Night(s) and Steak Nights are great nights! This location is just a block from the historic area, and there is plenty of parking nearby. Like I mentioned, Friday night is steak night. They wheel a cart to your table with large hunks of sirloin and strip steak. You get to tell them how big a hunk you want cut off, and they charge you $ 2 per ounce for the piece you select. However, there's a trick to picking your piece. If you want a reasonable portion, like 8 ounces, then the resulting cut is very thin and may be a bit dry when they cook it. I got about 1" of strip steak, about 1 pound, and it was cooked to perfection. However, that's a lot of meat. I suggest splitting a single steak between two people, so you get the benefit of thickness and avoid, at least to some extent, heart disease. Anyway, the resulting steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked to a perfect medium doneness. It was delicious and tastier than a steak I had a few days later from Capitol Grill, which cost about twice as much. The waitress told me the steak comes with two sides. I had a salad and a baked potato. She asked if I wanted the potato "fully loaded," with bacon and sour cream, and I said, "sure." However, she forgot to point out that "sure" cost me an extra $5. No complaints because it made the potato taste even better, and I just wish she had mentioned that when I ordered. Otherwise, it was a fun experience and a great dining value. The space was clean, the staff was friendly, and the WiFi was excellent. I'll come back here the next time I'm in town, even if it isn't steak night. read more

First time here. Stop by for lunch and Caroline was our waitress. She was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. We sat in the bar area and it was open with TV's on every wall. Food was great with reasonable portions. We tried the fries pickles, Ruben sandwich, and the Irish nachos. The fried pickles were great, but could only eat just the pickles after a bit. The batter was good but I can't eat too much fried foods. The Ruben was great and the homemade chips were delicious. The nachos were excellent. Had lots of toppings. This was recommended online as the best place in Charles Town/Harper's Ferry area for lunch. Our river guide company dude even agreed. We were all hankering for a good burger after 3 days on the river. I'd hate to see the other places in the area if this is considered the best. The wings were 75 cents and pretty darn good, I'll admit. But the burgers we got, they mixed up the toppings of every person's order, gave chips to fry people and vice-versa, and then we ALL order medium burgers and those things came out burnt to a crisp beyond even what I would call well done. We went there early evening on St. Paddy's Day. Had been there once before when they first opened but didn't notice that they had an upstairs. Being that I have troubles getting into the car at times, I was kinda hoping not to have to climb those stairs. The railing side has the narrow step but the other side (no railing) is wider. One would think it would be the other way around? Maybe someday they'll put a railing on that side too. Waitress was pleasant. Wait on food not too long. Spouse had the corned beef meal while I opted for the fish and chips. Irish pub fail... I've been here many times. Mostly Sundays to grab an afternoon pint and some fired pickles which are delicious! Unfortunately the weather turns stormy from there. Each and every time I've come I see different staff, aging infrastructure, and bad food. Today it was the worst I've seen so I hope whoever actually cares about this place takes notes and addresses things. My first observation today was two bars that are separated by a wall occupied by one bartender. When I asked an employee sitting on their laptop of this was the case she replied "yea, I know .." It was a challenge to get a drink. When I was finally greeted with a stone cold look I had to ask HER how she was doing, I got a beverage and no thank you no offer for a menu nothing. Felt like an outsider to say the least. I requested a table afterwards for my family who was arriving and after putting in our order we had a water spill on the table. We had to go ask for a towel and then it sat there for the entirety of our meal even with multiple visits from server. Host was sitting on his phone the entire time I was there. Bartender nowhere to be found. The food was barely edible and our server never came to ask how we were. For a Sunday at 5pm the ambiance was pretty sad. Food was cold and old. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Paddy's when visiting Charles Town. Our Bed and Breakfast host recommended Paddy's as a great spot for our late-ish dinner once we arrived in town, and she was definitely right. I ordered Shepherd's pie and it was perfect, exactly the way Shepherd's pie should be. A good portion of piping hot meat and veggies seasoned just right and topped with yummy mashed potatoes. Our server was truly the best I think we've ever had. We chose to eat outside, and since it was a cold evening we were the only diners out there, but she still checked in with us at all the right moments. And although we told her we could meet her inside to bring our own food out so she wouldn't have to, she wouldn't hear of it and told us it was a welcome break from the heat inside. Paddy was a popular place on a Monday evening.there is no car park so street parking. Greeting was ambivalent. Noise level high. Service was prompt. I wanted a glass 1/2pint of Guinness as I was driving. Only seven 20 oz so I had water and they lost a sale. Fish & chips was $17.99 not the $22 shown in Yelp picture. Fish was fresh cod not seasoned. It came as three pieces not one large fillet. The Guinness batter was weakened not thick and crisp and crunchy as you would get in Ireland. Coleslaw was very good but 2oz too small for the price. Could not tell if fresh cut or frozen, they were skinny so already luke warm when they hit the table. Malt vinegar was on the table, no lemon wedge. Tartar sauce was serviced. No check in from server but she did bring a second water with my cheque. No 'Goodbye' from the greeter as I left. read more

Went there for lunch today. Let me start off with what the boiled shrimp. Appetizer, potassium, they were very good now my daughter got the cream of Crab Soup it had a sour taste. The cream had curdled and the waitress said. Are you sure that's not just a lot of crab meat? I had the Irish onion soup which would have been real good if it hadn't been mostly bread and hot. The server who took our order never came back. My daughter had to go find Her. To top it off. The bill was $58. Unless you are rich, I suggest you eat somewhere else. I will never go back. read more

Chose Paddy's based on Google reviews, most were very good but unfortunately our experience was less than. My fried shrimp app was definitely from a box, on a bed of plain shredded cabbage. Why? It's a mystery. Tasted okay but I've had Nortons that was better. The fried fish and fries were overcooked in what was likely old grease. Miles apart from the pub experiences we had in England this time last year. The Arnold Palmer I ordered was horrible, couldn't even drink it. Probably made with instant lemonade, which is usually fine but use a different/better brand please. Reg sweet tea was much better. We came here after it was recommended by my sister and we were not disappointed. The steaks were fantastic (I got the smaller NY strip, he got the ribeye). We got a shrimp appetizer which wasn't the best, but that's on us for ordering seafood so far from the coast. We ate in the back patio area which was lovely - lots of birds to watch. Service was friendly and efficient. Interesting company on the patio though, pretty sure we were seated next to a meeting of the local swingers club. Everyone seemed to be having a great time! Last night was the first and only time I have been at this place. After a reservation of 15 was confirmed we were seated upstairs.... No issues with this. We joined the tables as groups normally do in areas where no other customers would be bothered. The waitress comes in (she doesn't matter enough to mention her name) and looks at 5 of us (myself included) and tells us that she wont take our order since we weren't part of the original group of 10 that's showed up before us 5. She was rude and condescending towards everyone. After taking everyone else's order she just walked away. A few minutes later another waitress came in and started snapping at us. At this point the 4 other people I was with got up and left. We spoke with the manager who refused to get us a new server. Up came another waitress who was awesome, but she said that she was not going to be taking over the table. I told her that I didn't have my order taken and she quickly helped. Unfortunately it was at this point one of our group members told us that the original waitress said that she was upset since we "don't tip" even though NONE of us have ever been there before. We all paid for our drinks and proved the original waitress right. I did leave the awesome server (3rd one) a small tip since she tried to go out of her way to help me. We then drove 30 mins away to Dutch's Daughter and got outstanding service and an even better meal. To sum it up.... Just from me.... Paddy's lost $135 in sales and the server lost a $50 tip. I know the others tipped well also at the other restaurant. Will never go back to Paddy's! read more

Went with my family today for their first time. We had the Nachos Supreme and Chesapeake Crab Dip for starters. Honestly pretty filling and would have stopped at there but we wanted to try more. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad which was okay but I may try something different next time I visit. The Raspberry Margarita was sooo good though! Others at my table ordered the Salmon and Shepherd's Pie--which they very much enjoyed. Even though it is a bar, kids are allowed in. But the kid's menu could've been a bit bigger (only 3 items). A group of 15 just walked out of there because our waitress Laurel was so rude for the minute she saw us. We are all from out of town and have never been to paddy's. We tried to be nice and get on her good side but nothing was working. It got to the point we had to talk to the manager and her about her attitude. She told one of us "you people don't tip". Aka you black and Hispanic people don't tip. We paid our bill and left. We have never felt more disrespect. We are all of law enforcement and in town for training on leadership. The best bartender is Erin, she was super sweet and funny and was so nice to all of us! Food is surprisingly good for a pub! The mussels had a really good flavor but was on the salty side. Their daily specials are good and it was a Wednesday, so they had legs and they were pretty good! I also tried the nachos and the steak kabob, all delicious! This was a pretty fun place, and right in downtown Charles Town! I'm definitely coming back to hang out at the bar, their atmosphere is on point! I met my best friend and her husband here for brunch/lunch, and we had a wonderful time! Their menu was very large, I definitely want to try more of their food offerings next time. I got their Cobb salad, and it was excellent! Lots of toppings and they didn't scrimp on dressing, it was great! And fresh, too! I also got one of their specialty drinks, the Rumchata hot chocolate, and it was literally the best hot chocolate I've ever had.....SOOOOO good!!! I would definitely recommend this, and would come back JUST for this drink! The service was very good also, attentive and polite, which was appreciated. I would say the only downfall of this place is that it's a tad expensive...my reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Other than being a bit pricey it's a solid place, with a fun atmosphere...I'll be back!
