Went in around 8pm on 09/18 and did not have a good experience at all. The young lady that met us at the door was rude and seemed upset that we were even there. We ordered crab cakes to share and my wife ordered a cup of soup since we were told that entrees would not be an option. The crab cakes tasted like they were made with canned tuna and my wife barely touched the soup. The rolls we were served crumbled when we tried to butter them. The chef? Owner? was in the dining room impressing a table with his "Wine from New York" when he should have been in the kitchen. Our actual server was very nice but could not stop this train wreck. read more

We had an enjoyable time for their Mother's Day brunch. We were seated outside and it was an adorable area. I had the Fennel & Frisée which had a delicious orange vinaigrette, however overall this was too bitter for my taste. Their eggs Benedict was delicious with the poached eggs being cooked perfectly! There are no 5 star restaurants in Shepherdstown, best as I can tell. But if you are looking for a quiet, comfortable setting with excellent service and properly prepared (if not spectacular) food, with maybe a nice cocktail or bottle of wine, then this is definitely the place. read more

Loved the ambience in this historic French bistro, they have an incredible garden patio. The food is excellent, I had the French dip sandwich and could have drunk the entire bowl of sauce, it was that good! They have a delicious brunch menu as well, definitely consider getting the biscuits. Portions aren't the largest but I will be coming back for sure. read more

After a long day of exploring Antietam and being drizzled on at Harper's Ferry we were looking for a nicely prepared meal. We were a walk in party of 2 on a Saturday and were seated right away. Although Bistro 112 doesn't seem like a 'fancy' restaurant we were probably a little under dressed and looking a little rough, but no one seemed to mind. Service was nicely timed and very friendly. I got the filet and my husband got the steak frites. Both were cooked as ordered and delicious. We split the seasonal cheesecake which was a maple bourbon and that was delicious and unexpectedly light, not dense and heavy like I was expecting. They offer an economical 3 course meal prior to the catf shows. We enjoyed the gazpacho soup which is zesty and a great choice for this hot summer day. Then I had chicken with a side salad that was seasoned well and cooked perfectly to keep it moist. My wife went with beaded flounder, potato salad and lettuce salad that was equally well done. My dessert was flourless chocolate cake and she got strawberry shortcake. Both great finishes to the meal. Very reasonably priced so an excellent meal at the right price. Tables are very close together- a fact that will prevent me from coming back for dinner as I hate crowded seating The person at the front door was less than welcoming. Our Server was pleasant, though overall service was slow. Overall, food was just ok, given the atmosphere, I had higher expectations - Home fries were incredibly salty, and very crisp. We are both in our 70s, had made a reservation, and were seated in a room where we were the youngest people. It was definitely our feeling that Bistro 112 had segregated the "geezers" in their own upstairs room far away from where anyone could see us, definitely not the street traffic. Back in town after 7 years and our favorite Bistro 112 with new owners and chef carried on a great restaurant vibe. My craving was for escargot and oh so yummy. Hubby ordered the fresh trout (even allowed me a small piece). With the pomme and wilted spinach, his huge plate was completely devoured. Griff, our server, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We truly enjoyed our brief night back in our hometown. Side note: As with many old towns access is not always easy. We had the soup du jour, which was a butternut squash soup, and the smoked gouda burger. The soup was great for a cold winter day, and the burger was tasty. It was an affordable light meal. LOVED everything!! We started with the escargot and French onion soup. Both were amazing, but the escargot was better. That garlic butter was just so good. I ordered the petite filet and hubby got a fish. Another table's food came out and I noticed a lady was eating pasta. I didn't see that on the menu so I asked our waiter what she was having and he told me it was their pasta special of the night. I was so bummed. I didn't know they had a pasta special. Apparently they do every Friday. My waiter could see how bummed I was so he went to ask the kitchen if they had already started making my filet. He came back and told me they hadn't started making it yet and asked if I wanted to switch. I did! So I got the pasta, which is homemade btw. It was the most amazing pasta I have ever eaten in my entire life. Omg. I couldn't eat it all so they boxed it up for me to take home. I also enjoyed a few espresso martinis. The place is cute inside. It's in an old house and there were a few tables downstairs, the bar in another room, and then more seating upstairs. Definitely come here if you can. I was looking forward to celebrating my birthday at Bistro 112. We are from out of town and visiting the area on Memorial Day weekend. The first surprise was that our table was up a steep flight of stairs, but the hostess didn't ask if we okay with stairs . Because of my age, I would have rather had a table downstairs, but wasn't given the option. The restaurant is very pretty, we were seated at a small table in a room with a few other couples. The chairs were very comfortable. I had reviewed the menu online before we came and was excited to try some of the dishes. We really enjoy French food and have been lucky enough to have traveled to France. The wait staff was very, very young - high school students or maybe Freshman in college , and not well trained. This was disappointing since the Bistro was priced as a high end restaurant. They were dressed in blue jeans, not high end restaurant attire, but I was trying not to judge a book by its cover. It took several minutes for someone to take our drink order... I ordered a glass of Rose and my husband ordered an Old Fashioned. At no other point in the evening were we asked if we would like another drink. A different waiter then came over to tell us the specials. Foie Gras was offered as an appetizer, which is rare to find and a dish that I really enjoy (I know I shouldn't, sorry Goose). It was served as a pate. Just the pate, nothing to put it on. We finally got a waitresses attention, and I asked for some toast or crackers to put it on. We had also ordered the breadbasket - $5, so while I was waiting for the toast, we used some of the bread for the foie gras. It took over 10 minutes to get 2 toasted slices of baguettes. My husband had ordered the chicken dish, which he said was tasty, and I ordered the bouillabaisse. I was given a bowl of broth and mussels. The broth was tasteless ... luckily, or unlucky because I had a comparison, I knew that this dish should be a stew - not just broth and mussels. After getting the waiters attention I told him that there wasn't any other seafood in the dish. He seemed surprised and took it away. He brought it back after a few minutes and said they added fish - 2 small pieces of fish, I don't know what kind. The broth was flavorless so I had to ask for salt . We ordered a dessert to share and decaf coffee which was fine, no complaints. Our bill was over $150 - including a $2 charge for the baguettes for foie gras - how did the chef expect us to eat it?! I didn't complain about the$2 but really should have. On the reservation form it asked if we were celebrating a special occasion- I put that it was my birthday. No mention was made during the evening - take it off the form if you aren't going to do anything special with the information. A fine restaurant should also only use a waiter and a server, we had 4 or 5 different people wait on us, all wearing blue jeans. I truly am not a complainer when it comes to eating out. My husband and our children have all worked in the industry. I would not recommend Bistro 112 as a fine dining French Bistro. Very very disappointing. read more

On a rainy, chilly summer day, we found Bistro 112 in our way to explore Antietam. It was a charming, cozy space- upscale but not fussy. The food was fantastic and showed a great understanding of the customers- with a tomato bisque and grilled cheese special, in recognition of the weather. We had lunch in the absolutely lovely hidden garden patio area behind Bistro 112. If the weather permits, I would 100% suggest you sit outside. The back patio is truly a little hidden oasis. First off: The food was fantastic. I ordered the lox plate appetizer for the table which was beautifully presented with a nice portion of tender cured smoked salmon. The bread basket was an adorable collection of different breads. One of them, the brioche that we had received quite fresh out of the oven. The basket comes with 3 inventive butter pats: I believe they were chili lime, sage, and maple? All three of them were interesting and gone by the time our bread basket was empty. The sandwich I ordered was well stuffed with fresh turkey and veg and the shoestring fries were near perfect texture. My friend got the croque monsieur which just looked money as all get up. The only downfall of the meal was the slow and somewhat hampered service. For instance, we got the lox plate but it took maybe another 10 minutes for baguette to come out for it - and we had to ask for it. It was a struggle to get refills, our check, etc. And the food took about 40 minutes to come out. So I think if you have the time to have a pleasant long lunch - definitely go for it. Outside of this, our server was very pleasant and nice. And I believe it was one of the hosts that helped us turn on the heater, but she was also an absolute joy to speak with. Everyone was as nice as can be. And for certain I would go back. I would just leave ample time. read more

This has been the best experience in a LONG TIME! Wife and I jut wandering around town. She found this place and had great reviews. But TBH, I'm not a big fan of French food. We stopped at a sushi place nearby first a was a 30 minute wait. So we came here. It's where the Mrs first suggested. We sat at a high top at the bar and the bartenders were quick to serve us. I ordered a Guinness and heard him tell his partner the importance of the pour. He's 100% correct! Now we move to the food. Wife had AHI fish dish, and I had a shrimp and mussel special. My dish seemed more Cajun than French. Delicious! Wife enjoyed her meal too. I ordered a scotch with a Crème brûlée desert to share. I ordered the scotch on 1 rock, and he knew what I was getting at. It was a small chip of ice. Perfect! Rare to find a bartender that understands the little things. The creme brûlée was perfect! Not something just thrown in a dish with a couple berries. But actual well made with cranberries mixed in and a biscotti on top. The staff here seem like they actually enjoy their job and take great pride in it. That rare these days. So, we stopped here on a drive through and can't say enough about the service and food. Lovely little place. Ordered the escargot and the steak frites. Steak was melt in your mouth delicious. Frites were lovely, slim and crunchy. Escargot drenched in butter, sprinkled with pistachio crumbs..... yum, yum, yum. Brie our server was lovely, personable and on point. This place is a great experience, laid back, but with the perfect attention to detail. The food rivaled that which we have experienced in France. Fun facts about me are that I hate to travel more than 4 hours in a vehicle and I hate the idea of getting on a plane and traveling anywhere. I'm a homebody in my old age and the idea of traveling anywhere far gives me anxiety. With that being said, I like to eat local and make my own food. Last night I was able to squeeze in a handmade pasta meal from Bistro 112. Fridays are handmade pasta nights at Bistro and I've been waiting a while for the opportunity to grab a bite. Between my wife working and the kids at BJJ practice, I decided to order takeout yesterday. It did not disappoint. I opened the pasta box and was initially disappointed at the portion size but I couldn't believe that it filled me up and was also incredible! We had a lovely meal at Bistro 112. We were visiting Harper's Ferry for the weekend and drove over to Shepherdstown for the meal. The french onion soup was the best I've had since I visited Paris over 10 years ago. My wife said that the salmon was excellent, and I got the steak frites. The steak frites were excellent, but just be aware that they run on the rare side. I got them medium rare but I would've ordered medium in retrospect, just some restaurants view medium rare differently. The staff is young but obviously works very hard. The bartender on staff yesterday and today was excellent and made an amazing arugula martini (note that I normally don't care for gin, arugula or saint germaine, but it all works together)! Tonight I had dinner and it was excellent. Stars are the escargot, crispy flounder, pot de crème. The only real disappointments were a strawberry/basil macaron, and the gazpacho could have been less chunky but the flavor was good. We were happily surprised. Bistro 112 is housed in a very interesting building in historic Shepherdstown that underwent updates a couple of years ago. There are nooks and crannies, semi-private spaces for up to 10, a patio (with warmers and fire pits this winter) and charming decor and dishes. The menu is a delight to read and brings back fond memories of meals in Paris. The $10 crock of French Onion Soup is to die for and you should stop what you are doing right now and make a trek to Shepherdstown, WV. Not on the menu, was the oversized portion of Pappardelles au lapin braisé, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. The vegan, gluten free options (around 6) were a surprise. I ordered the mushroom tartlet with asparagus and herbs. We ended the meal with yet another "special"--a homemade cinnamon roll with nuts and a tasty cream cheese glaze. The coffee was perfect. (Again: think Paris). Our hostesses, Izzy and Avery, and server, Bree, catered to our every whim. We will return. read more
