Some of the salads and sandwiches, and the kids' menu (May 2025)

This is cute restaurant with good food, great staff, and a wonderful secluded courtyard. When we got here at 1:30pm on Memorial Day, there was no wait for a table out in their shady secluded courtyard, though it was pretty full by the time we left. There are many umbrellaed tables seating two to six, including a couple within a sunken patio surrounded by a rushing stream. We were served our drinks quickly, and our food came out faster than they expected on a busy day. For a simple lunch, we chose chilled sesame udon noodles from the appetizer menu, tossed in a lightly zingy creamy ginger-sesame and peanut butter sauce. We also had a well-stuffed tender sliced beef & brie sandwich on a toasty flakey baguette with just enough brightly flavored horseradish mayo. The sandwich came with a generous serving of any salad, so we chose the flavorful grilled portabella with roasted red potatoes, chopped tomatoes, and feta cheese over fresh spinach, with warm creamy mushroom sauce on the side. An amazing savory and hearty lunch. The restaurant is easy to spot, an all-windowed red-tile-roofed corner building on High St, with a deeply vined side with ornate arched-windows on Princess St. There's on-site parking on Princess St., and metered parking nearby on Princess and on High, but I think the unmetered street parking and the lot across High St require permits.

We had dinner last night at Blue Moon Cafe. We had called to make a reservation for the outdoor patio. The patio is definitely where it's at--the inside is unremarkable. Our overall conclusion is that the food is quite good, but the service was a bit harried. They took our order promptly. My husband ordered soup and we planned to share an appetizer. The hummus plate came right out, but the soup did not arrive. It was a very generous portion of hummus, served with both pita bread and tortilla chips. Then they brought out our entrees, so we told them to cancel the soup. Later, another server brought the soup as we were midway through the main course. My husband's quiche and my chicken-avocado salad were both good. There was a big side salad with the quiche but no salad dressing. So we asked for some ranch dressing, but that never came at all. When the bill same, we had to remind them to take off the charge for the soup. Our server was pleasant, just overwhelmed. If they could get the service to be as smooth as the food is good, it would be grest.

This culinary gem is the crown jewel of the local restaurant scene. You can't beat its setting with an outdoor seating area that boasts a babbling brook and lush foliage. The vibe is hippie casual and I couldn't get enough of it. Our server (Hailey) was superb, as expertly guided me toward a delicious Beef and Brie sandwich. This sandwich was a hearty score that screamed succulent and delicious with every bite... yum!! For me, the Blue Moon Cafe is a must see stop when I'm in town. I look forward to exploring the rest of its menu.

Grabbed my go-to buffalo chicken wrap at The Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown today. If you like buffalo chicken wraps, you'll love this! I can't tell you how many I had while I was at Shepherd Not pictured but was ordered at my table, the pilgrim sandwich - smoked turkey, Brie, cranberry aioli on a warm, soft ciabatta roll, and the chicken quesadilla (which looked so good I'm gonna order it next time!) It's a pretty average college restaurant, so don't get your expectations too far past that, the back is pretty welcoming and inviting.

A friend from the area liked this local favorite so we got here around 12:30 on a Thursday and grabbed the last outdoor table. Beautiful garden area with the Town Run (waterway) adding to the unique setting. We started with the Crab Dip appetizer. Parm cheese topping was a twist and we enjoyed it. For lunch it was the French Dip and Triple B Burger. French Dip was tasty and the Burger had house ground beef (char broiled taste) with Brie and Bacon bringing it all together. Although we didn't try any, they have a good selection of local/craft brews. Not much room for dessert but couldn't pass on the Peanut Butter Mousse pie. House made and had just the right amount of PB taste in the Mousse. Chocolate graham crust was tasty but could have been thicker. We saw a few dogs in the outdoor area as they are dog friendly. Service was engaged and attentive. Kaye took great care of us answering our questions and made some solid recommendations. Great spot for a laid back and relaxing lunch!

This little restaurant was recommended to us by a local and we were so glad we went! We ate outside in the garden where water rushed through a little stream. The atmosphere was great and the food was also very good. The sweet potato fries were amazing!

I'm not usually a huge ice cream person, but it felt like the perfect way to honor her. The shop itself was bright, clean, and welcoming, with several people already enjoying their treats. We grabbed a high table by the front window, which made for some great people-watching while we indulged. The menu immediately caught my eye. The range of flavors wasn't just broad--it was creative, unique, and full of options you don't see every day. That foodie spark kicked in, and I knew I had to go with a flight so I could taste a few. (Brilliant idea, by the way--four little cups of different flavors!) Our picks were: Grilled Lime Burnt Honey Crunchy PB Jelly Espresso Mascarpone Lemon Biscotti Brown Butter Pecan & Praline Each scoop came with a color-changing spoon (such a fun touch), and every flavor was creamy, consistent in texture, and absolutely delicious. My favorites were a tie between the Espresso Mascarpone (though I think it could stand strong without the lemon biscotti) and the Brown Butter Pecan & Praline. The Grilled Lime Burnt Honey was bright and unique, and the Crunchy PB Jelly was tasty but leaned a bit sweet for me. Overall, this was some of the best ice cream I've had--flavorful, high-quality, and true to its name. Add in the kind, helpful staff and the clean, cozy atmosphere, and it made for a really special stop. I left not just with a happy palate, but also with a new tradition: every year on August 22, I'll seek out a new ice cream spot in honor of my grandma. Amy & Alex's was the perfect place to start.

We were able to decide what to order before we made it to the counter. This is a popular place. What looked like a long line moved quickly. The cashier was friendly and knowledgeable. We've been loyal customers for over 12 years and have always appreciated the charm and warmth your store offers. Unfortunately, this visit was quite the opposite. My husband--just a week out from emergency surgery--was on his first short outing. We were both wearing masks for medical reasons. While that shouldn't matter, the staff member behind the register treated us with clear hostility from the moment we walked in. I greeted her politely, but she responded with an eye roll and a visibly unwelcoming attitude after looking at my mask first. That is ableism. Before my husband even entered the store, she abruptly and rudely asked, "Um, is that a service dog?" I answered honestly that our dog was not. Rather than calmly explaining store policy, she became increasingly short and vague. When I asked for clarification--since we've previously visited with our dog after receiving permission--she abruptly mentioned the health department had "just been in," and seemed flustered when it became clear we were unaware of any new policy. The tone throughout was dismissive, confrontational, and deeply unprofessional. Others in the store appeared just as surprised. It wasn't just about the dog; it felt discriminatory and ableist. We were simply trying to enjoy a brief outing and pick up a gift, but left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. This experience does not reflect the Shepherdstown community or the reputation your store has built over the years. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would appreciate a response, and I'm happy to revise or remove my review once this is addressed--it was simply my only way to reach you when other attempts failed.
