We had such a lovely experience at Crosswinds Café as a family of three--two adults and our baby. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, with friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate us (including immediately offering a high chair). The food was delicious--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We especially loved the pancakes, which were both top-notch. It's hard to find a place that balances quality with a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, but Crosswinds really nails it. This is a fun place to eat. It is on the second floor and has large windows on three sides overlooking the airport. It's a great place to watch planes take off and land. The staff were very friendly and they seemed to have built up a lot of regular customers. The food is standard diner type and the amount of cold cuts on my club sandwich were very generous. The club was good if a bit difficult to eat but there wasn't much pride in plating. I thought they forgot my pickle but it was under my sandwich which was under the chips. I would say that this is one of the most under-utilized places I know of.... Crosswinds Cafe is in a beautiful location, well, if you're a pilot or aviation geek at least. It's on the 2nd floor of Martinsburg's little airport building... You can drink or dine with a commanding view of everything going on at the airport. You can view the military C-17 aircraft across the runway, see smaller planes training and practicing landings, and occasionally view other military planes who use Martinsburg as a training runway... But we're also here to eat right? Well you won't be disappointed with the menu. If you are local, you have probably heard of Katara's in town, well this is not exactly the same menu, but you can see the similarities... Everything is GOOD!!! I've been here several times, but the last time I had a Chef Salad, and everyone else that I was dining with was jealous... it was so FRESH and delicious... The service is great here, my drink was never more than half empty. You can rent out this space for special events. It's a great space for your event. and..... they serve alcohol now!!! We arrived and found the waitress sitting with a guy at a table. She came and sat us and didn't even offer to get us anything which most places do when they seat a table (which she should've done beings she was our server after all) she then went back over talking to the same guy. we waited about 5 mins and then she came back over and offered to take our order including drinks. I said we would just get drinks and ordered Kristen's food bc it was our first time there and we wanted to look over the menu some more. No suggestions, NOTHING!! As soon as she walked away she proceeded to refill a tea at someone's table and then right back over to the guy she was sitting with to deliver his food and talk. Then she notices the table behind him needed refills so she asks and they said yep Pepsi and water. ( Same thing we asked for hence it should've clicked oh they don't have drinks yet!) She goes to deliver the refills and says something to the guy again that she was sitting with and in the mean time another table gets up to pay. She runs over to cash them out! We get up and leave and it's pretty sad when our little one who is only 4 says thank you as we're walking out not evening understanding what just happened. I'm in the industry and I'm pretty sure she has worked for this place for a while even at different locations so this type of service is uncalled for and horrible!! Not sure if she felt some type of way towards us or she's just horrible at her job!! Either way it was a terrible experience and we won't be back!!! Crosswinds is located adjacent to the Martinsburg airport. It can be a little confusing to make it from the parking lot upstairs to the café, but the setting is very comfortable once there. One of the items worth trying are "corn fritters." I was expecting something like a hush puppy, but to my (pleasant) surprise I found them to be small fried balls of dough filled with warm sweet corn. They were great! The service was attentive and prompt. I will definitely make a return trip! read more

A great secret of the Martinsburg airport in West Virginia is that there is a pretty incredible, cheap, no frills, aviation themed diner on premises. If you fly in or you live in the area - it's a fantastic place to enjoy tasty foods and watch airplanes land from the 2nd floor. Yes -- it's an airport cafe, but no - you don't need to go through security to dine here AFAIK. We flew into the airport a while back and the staff at the FBO took us over to the cafe. I had an "aviation burger," while my friend enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich. Everything, including the service - was incredible! The burger was perfect and juicy. I highly recommend it! The chips they serve are cooked in house and delightful as well! read more

Good sandwich from this small deli spot not far from I-81. I was the only one in the back for my entire lunch. They do have a free wifi hotspot and there's a big television up on the wall. Will the SVU Detectives catch the bad guy? I guess we'll find out later. I chose the fried ham sandwich because I wanted something hot. It was pretty tasty and just a little messy but I ate the whole thing and even some of the chips. Big portion here. read more

This is a family owned establishment. The restaurant has a nice set up. When you park and walk up, you will notice a double doored front entrance that brings you into the dining room, its locked. There is a side entrance, this works well for keeping the dining room from becoming a thoroughfare while other patrons are sitting and dining. I ordered a Bacon cheeseburger and fries. My order was prepared and served within 10 minutes of it being ordered. My burger was pretty good. I will eat here again in the future! read more

Food was very good. Tasted wonderful. However, we arrived at a little past three. We were told they were about to close.....at 4......then told they had already cleaned the grill.....the implication was that they didn't want us to order food that would need prepared that way. Food came quickly and was great. But we asked for one large fry and got fries on each plate. Then, the waitress was so busy preparing to close that we had to take our cups to her for a refill on our drinks. The decor is nice and comfortable but the service could definitely use work. I used to wait tables and the restaurant isn't closed until the last table leaves. But that no excuse to act like we are putting you out by asking to eat when the restaurant is open. read more

Ordered a half Club Sandwich. It comes with chips and a pickle. CRICKEY this is HUGE. Need 2 hands to pick it up. I really enjoy this place; I've been here several times, mostly for work-meeting lunches and once with the boyfriend. All the food I've ever gotten has been great. But there's just the one owner(?)/server who tries to take orders, refill drinks, ring people up, and run around like a crazy person. This causes huge delays in getting refills or getting her attention. They definitely need 2 or 3 dedicated wait staff. I'm hesitant to go on my lunch break because I'm not sure I will get out in time to get back within the hour. The nachos rule. read more

Food was excellent and nice portions also. But its not that clean especially the tables are very worn wood and sticky also. Chairs were duck taped on the cushion part. We were traveling up HWY 81 and needed a place to grab some lunch before heading north. Katara's Deli sounded like it would fit the bill for a healthy meal while on a road trip. Rule #1 - Be wary of a business with a limited number of glowing Yelp reviews. Rule #2 - When the restaurant is housed in building that looks better suited for tax preperation or a local insurance broker, remember Rule #1. Unfortunately I didn't remember my own rules. Still hoping for that 5 star expereince I pushed forward. The egg, bacon, and blue cheese salad sounded refreshing, but turned out to be simply that, one boiled egg, some crumbled bacon, a dash of crumbled blue cheese, on a pile of lettuce. It was as if I had gone to the refrigerator hungry and when I looked in, my only choices were eggs, bacon, blue cheese and a head of lettuce. My daughters pastrami sandwhich was... you guessed it, bread and pastrami. I blame only myself for not following my own rules... live and learn (I hope). read more

I have never had a bad meal here. The only complaint is I almost always get a Reuben. Twice now the kitchen has forgotten the thousand island dressing. Thank goodness for the servers who offered to have it remade. I just had them bring out a cup of the dressing and was good. Katara's used to be Dubbies Deli. The owner sold the business and the only thing they changed was the name and website. The menu stayed the same which was a relief to my husband and I, who love this place. The dining area is set up like a living room with tables. Some of them are barstool height and some are regular height. It's very homey and very comfortable. Usually there is quiet music playing in the background and that's fine with me as long as it's quiet and not so loud you can't enjoy a conversation. The food is standard deli type sandwiches, but they are all very generously proportioned and very good. They have the best fried pickles I've had ever and I was thrilled to see them continue to make them. The only thing on the menu that I'm not a huge fan of was the burger. It wasn't very tasty but it serves me right going to a deli and ordering a burger. Stick to the sandwiches and unless you are very hungry, or want leftovers, order a "half". I hear the "Pig Pickin' Cake" is to die for, but I'm always so stuffed from my lunch that I have never had the room to try it. I keep meaning to! The service is always very friendly and honestly, the only thing that is keeping me from giving Katara's five stars is the fact that I never was offered a refill on my drink. I have been excited to eat here ever since I started working on my private pilots license. The timing hasn't worked out. Today however, my nephew signed up with the air guard. As a celebration my family wanted to try it out. We arrived at 2:10. The girl at the counter told us they were closing in 15 minutes. I confirmed her meaning. Flew in for breakfast. Taxied up to the ramp at the new MRB Aviation FBO and was greeted by a friendly lineman. The FBO and Crosswinds were amazing. Clean and tidy. Answered the phone multiple times and took walk in orders while never ringing up my food... i was standing directly in front of her and the place was not busy at all. When I asked to pay separately for two lunches she got very frustrated with me. I did not like my chicken salad sandwich. It had little flavor and had a mealy texture. read more
