Nice afternoon with good outside seating. Perfect place for a leisurely lunch. Lizzy was my sever and she made sure I got what I needed quick and efficient. Brisket and rib combo plate. Sides were mac and cheese, soup beans (their version of baked beans. They throw a slice of white bread and pickles in. White bread - weak slice of stale bread. But that doesn't matter because that's not what you're here for. Pickles - slices of cucumber with a quick pickle. Meh. Not worth it Mac n cheese. Reasonable. Would eat again. Beans - meh. Need some more spice to them. Now, on to the meats. Because that's what we're all really here for. Ribs. Cooked perfect. Meat wasn't falling off the bone. That's over cooked. No, but it did tear off clean when you bit into them. Just right. Nicely seasoned. Glazed while on the fire. Sauces can be added if you want. Brisket. Again well cooked, maybe on the edge of over (shedded a little as you ate it). My serving was from the flat up toward the point, with a good 1/4 of fat remaining. I trim the fat more, but it had been rendered nicely so it ate well. Yes, you eat the fat with the meat. People who trim it are wrong. Just wrong. It was not the best brownie I have ever had in my life however, when my food came, I was happy that everything looked the way. I hoped it did. I landed on the brisket and it was cooked very well. The West Virginia type beans were absolutely delicious. I like how they put a bunch of different sauces on the table and you have the ability to choose from them. I am a regular barbecue sauce, Girl, but they have plenty of options. This place is small and gives a somewhat of a dive bar feel, however, our waitress was super sweet and accommodating. We had a decent size party, and she constantly checked on us and got our food to us as fast as she possibly could when I'm in this area again and I will be. This review could be between 2 and 4. The prices were reasonable and the service was very, very good. I ordered "The Gridley" sandwich. I asked if it could be served with pastrami instead of the Brisket. They said no. This is annoying since it would take absolutely no extra work. Both are already cooked and just need to be thrown on the grill. Pastrami is just brisket that is cured and uses a different spice rub. The sandwich was a bit disappointing. I like a strong smoke flavor but it overpowered all the ingredients, so I feel like I would have had the same experience with a plain brisket sandwich. The Brisket itself is very tasty and I love the sauce selection. The pickles are very tasty and mild. I have had better meals here but based on this experience alone, I was disappointed. read more

Amazing! Hubby and I were out and about and decided to stop in for lunch. Wow! He got the Pork BBQ platter with coleslaw and mac&cheese and greens. I got the 1/4 chicken with pinto beans and sweet potatoe fries - I had to add on a side of greens too. W O W! First, a lot of food - generous portions! Second, flavoring was amazing! Great Smokey, BBQ flavor - both my chicken and his pork bbq were very tender - no hint of dryness at all! The pinto beans are just like my grandma used to make. Everything was amazing! Wish I had taken pictures to share...next time!! And I have to say Lizzie provided great service!! She was very friendly and attentive. I wasn't sure what to expect since this place is in the end of an office park type area but once again Yelp didn't fail me. They weren't crowded on a weekday mid-afternoon and have seating inside and outside on the patio. They also have a bar inside and a sign mentioned live music on Friday and Saturday nights We sat inside and service was fast and very friendly. Food was the best BBQ I've had in quite a while. I was hungry after hiking part of the Western MD Rail Train and portions were so large I barely finished my meal. The tasty pulled pork wasn't fatty and had an interesting seasoning on top which I enjoyed. They have a bunch of different BBQ sauces and I enjoyed them all but liked their original sauce the best with its cumin flavor. The Appalachian beans were something unique I haven't seen elsewhere and the collard greens tasted freshly made. I enjoyed both sides and also liked their 1/2 sweet 1/2 unsweet tea. I didn't see ribs on the menu so not sure if they don't serve them at all or just didn't have any this day. I was too full for dessert but had a butter scotch pudding to go and enjoyed that later that evening. I'd back here for sure if I was in the area and looking for tasty BBQ. read more

Really like Firebox. Food was great. We especially liked the chicken and the pulled pork. Pork Rinds for an app were a hit at the table. Service was really good. All the wait staff were really nice and helpful. I've even done a pick up after our sit down and got great service on my pick up. I asked for extra Alabama white sauce and utensils. No problem, and just gave me what I needed. Bar area is nice. Liquor selection had the typical and some upgrades. Overall was a great experience here. read more

I used to enjoy their grain bowls, but the last two times it has been horrific. This time, the chicken was either overcooked or stored improperly. The chicken was reduced to a squishy mass of chicken like substance. The rice was cold, and the "pickles" we're not much more than vinegar covered pieces of cucumber. The chicken wings, which were supposed to be smoked and then "flash fried to a crispy perfection" were burnt so bad that I was able to break them into pieces. It was more like chicken jerky than actual chicken wings. If I could rate this place at a negative, I would simply because of the attitude of one of the kitchen personnel who found it fitting to bring out a container from the kitchen and then scolded a server how it was " improperly put back in the fridge and it was an effing mess". Awful. Horrible. Disgustingly mushy. All fit the scriptures of the meal that I was actually expected to pay for... I didn't eat it. I sent it back to the kitchen. read more

Firebox 55 has spot on customer service due to friendly, knowledgeable servers. We enjoyed a nice conversation with the server who helped us decide what we should have to eat. We chose the Buffalo chicken salad with fries, and the Gridley with sweet potato fries, both of which arrived, loaded to the hilt with fresh ingredients, topped off with hot fries and a six pack of sauces that we could use to enjoy with the meal. The Gridley came with smoked brisket and charred pepper, relish, aged provolone, a roast garlic, horsed mayonnaise, crispy onions on a nicely toasted hoagie roll . Smoked buffalo chicken salad was excellent. Served up with blue cheese, aïoli lettuce, tomato onion on a nicely toasted brioche bun. The coleslaw with both meals was perfect, which is the right amount of sweetness and creamy celery seed dressing, mixed in with green cabbage and carrots. I also ordered an extra side of the collard green, serve with bacon, onions, brown sugar, and cider vinegar, and they were absolutely fantastic. Came here for lunch one day with a coworker and we were greeted by a sign that read "Please Seat Yourself." Naturally, I messed up and got in a spot that was hidden, but the team there scouted me out after a couple minutes. They were super friendly and they gave me some recommendations upon request, as I was having trouble deciding. Everything on the menu sounded delicious! I went for the Cuban sandwich and that did not disappoint. They also have great fries, Mac & cheese, and plenty of other options if those two don't sound enticing enough. Favorite Oldest Granddaughter had lacrosse games in Martinsburg. Last one was stormed out, so we had time for a non-crap-in-the-box real meal. We made it to Firebox55 twenty minutes before closing. Very, very glad we did. There's a hierarchy to BBQ restaurants. At one end are the snooty, white tablecloth establishments where the 'que takes a distant second place to the aaaaambiance. At the other end are the roadside shacks with barely-functional screen doors, bare picnic tabeles, and really good BBQ cooked over a homebuilt concrete pit. Firebox 55 combines the best of both worlds: really nice interior, excellent service, outstanding pork BBQ, and great sides. My pulled pork sammie was piled high with a mix of interior meat and crusty bark, served on a toasted brioche roll. A bit Gucci maybe, but ithe roll nicely highlighted the moist meat. The kicker was they offered five sauce choices for self dosing. I was surprised - and very pleased - to see a South Carolina mustard sauce, which really complemented the pork. Yummy! For sides I ordered (and inhaled) collard greens and Appalachian soup beans, both enhanced with the right mix of smoked meat. If they offered them in entree-sized portions with cornbread, either would be a great meal. Excellent! To be honest, I didn't expect much. My expectations were wildly exceeded. Firebox55 is about an hour away from home, but having eaten there once, I'll really, really look forward to eating there again. And again. And again! read more

My coworker and I stopped by because we saw good reviews for this place. We shared the pimento cheese and crackers. It was okay pimento cheese but the crackers were not my first choice for a vessel to eat the pimento cheese with. It was yummy but just a strange cracker choice in my opinion. He got a Reuben sandwich and I got the pulled pork platter. He really liked his sandwich. We both could've EASILY eaten off of this one platter because of how much food was included. The bread was dried out and broke too easily when I tried to make a tiny sandwich. But the pulled pork, Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries were AMAZING. I will admit some of my fries were a bit more crispy (burned) but it was just a few of the thinner/smaller ones that would've been cooked too quickly compared to the batch. This was all $16 for this platter! It was busy for a Tuesday lunch and there were only three waitresses I saw but it was quick service and friendly people. We sat in the first room with the bar but I think there was a second room, and then we did see the outside seating. Overall, a pretty good place for a bite to each. We dropped by Firebox55 in the middle of a long road trip. Ordered over the phone and payed upon pickup. I had the fried green tomato on sourdough and my husband had the buffalo chicken salad sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious. Even the sides were excellent -- Homemade savoy cabbage slaw, and skinny cut French fries. We'll definitely be trying to make this a regular stop on our PA to NC road trips. read more
