Brought the Mazda Sports Cars of Washington. DC scenic drive here today. Called a few days in advance to make a reservation, and working with the Blue Moon Cafe was a joy. We called ahead as we began our drive to give them our final total (17 diners) and they were ready for us when we arrived a little early. They put us all in one room with appropriate distancing, and had no trouble with our need for separate checks. The service was terrific, and the food was excellent. EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the group felt the Blue Moon Cafe deserved five stars. Just want to say that the parking across the street for the university was ridiculously convenient for us - it's free on weekends and there were plenty of spaces for our 13 cars. I bought a shirt here. My kids received leprechaun coins here for being good during dinner. The food pleased everyone. They did not have a jukebox. They also did not have a wait to get seated. They were able to accommodate our party of 9 at a real wooden table. This would be a good place for a romantic coming of age story to start or finish in. Wow! This place is like a dream! The ambience is amazing. It's like being in your favorite aunt's house who is an older hippy at heart. Cozy. Decorated with blue moons and accented with yellow. The food is typical bar food but it does have a nice, large selection of salads. However, when I saw they had a black & blue burger on the menu I had to get that. I didn't regret it. They asked how I wanted it cooked which is a good sign. I asked for medium and it was more cooked than I prefer, but still had a good grilled flavor without being dry. The tangy blue cheese offset it perfectly. It came with fries, but I think i substituted onion rings. Whatever I had, it was delicious. 5/5 will definitely be going back. The food is good. We've been here a few times over the years. Love the burgers and the rolls they use with the burgers. Outside dining is available and it is nice- kind of a secluded, wooded feel. We did have our toddler with us today (for lunch) but did not notice if they had high-chairs. One was not offered if they do have them available but, we had our guy in the stroller so we just moved him close to the table and it was all good. Low marks for the service- incorrect drink order was brought out first. Then the food took forever- over 40 minutes, and our server never checked in with us. This place clearly has a loyal following and it makes sense. Truly unique, a lot of their seating is actually outdoors with a real spring fed stream running through the patio area. Very cool. The indoor seating area has such a laid back warm and inviting energy that immediately makes you feel relaxed. All around it's fun and chill energy here. We love that they have a cool assortment of local brews. I mean who doesn't love a touch of local flavor? The menu is eclectic but their standout items are the nachos, reuben sandwich, and burritos. They do get quite busy during the lunch hour so a tip is to be there right when they open for lunch. You'll see a mix of college students and likely bikers stopping for a bite during their journey on the C&O bike trail which leads me to mentioning that this a great spot for all you bikers on the C&O canal! read more

Really enjoyed that there is a smaller salad option though. They also have a selection of a few beers and mimosas-- one traditional and one called a Long John with blueberry pomegranate juice. The Blue Moon Cafe was recommended to me about a year and a half ago. Since then, my friend and I meet there for lunch every Friday. The menu selections are wonderful and we looked forward to trying something new each week. Every meal that we have had at the Blue Moon Cafe was delicious and to this day continues its culinary excellence. It is not just the food that makes the Blue Moon our favorite place to eat. The ambience of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, the outside patio area with the stream running through it is peaceful. Of course, the food and the atmosphere are important but, it is the people that work there that make it memorable. The staff is personable and professional. The garden area is great. Not the cleanest place, but with a few beers and twilight, it's pretty solid. I ordered nachos, which were a full meal. They add a lot of beans, which is great for a vegetarian (or any person that like delicious foods). I would recommend the nachos. Our group also ordered the mushroom Philly "cheesesteak." I am so glad the Blue Moon Cafe was not only open but the definition of grace under fire. The staff is very courteous while at the same time being one of few food establishments available on Labor Day. It was made clear to me that there would be a wait. But, in the end, the team exceeded expectations and found a place for me. I had a beer in my hand and a sandwich in short order. I came to shepherdstown to get away, and in the midst of the Labor Day pressure that the staff was managing , I had a really chill experience 100% because of the positive attitude and environment. We visited Blue Moon based on a recommendation from my niece and nephew. It was a good recommendation. We made a reservation the evening prior and upon arrival, we were promptly seated inside. The outdoor seating was beautiful with a waterfall flowing right through the yard. Our waitress was outgoing and friendly. The menu had a lot of sandwiches and that's what everyone was raving about, so that's what I ordered. My nephew ordered the Pilgrim, my wife ordered the chicken cheese steak, and I ordered the Jesse's Meato Escondido. The waitress suggested trying the lemonade and ice tea drink, which I did. It was decent. A while later, our sammiches were delivered. My roast beef sammich was served cold which my nephew's and wife's were served hot. I tried all three sandwiches and my favorite was the Pilgrim. It was savory and delicious. I will definitely order one of those next time! The grilled chicken and cheese sandwich was also very tasty, much better than my roast beef. My Jesse's Meato Escondido was of excellent quality and was good, but it wasn't savory like the other two sandwiches. I would like to stop back sometime and try the other sandwiches and dishes. My favorite restaurant in West Virginia. We're from upstate NY, but used to live in southwestern WV. One of our family members lives in Martinsburg and we visit often and the Blue Moon is always on our itinerary, sometimes more than once. Located just off the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV, the Blue Moon is a funky cafe that serves an eclectic menu of sandwiches, salads and gourmet pizza. Everything seems to be fresh and handmade. Two items on the menu are particularly good, the meatloaf sandwich and the crab cake sandwich. Both are highly recommended. There are a number of vegetarian dishes too. The black bean quesadilla is especially delicious. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor, inner courtyard seating is especially fun. In my opinion the menu is moderately priced. Dinner for two, including soda or tea should run around $30 including tax. Add a few dollars more for beer, cider, wine or a mimosa or two. The restaurant is very popular, but take out is very fast and there's a very nice shady park with lovely picnic tables less than a block away. read more

I used to come here a couple years ago and the food here was amazing. Today I visited and the food was extremely salty. We asked for an appetizer, 2 sandwiches, and fries. The fries and appetizer were given to us, and after eating we asked when the sandwiches were coming. We were told that we never ordered the sandwiches, and that they would be out in a few minutes. After telling us that the sandwiches would be paid for, after eating, they turned around to tell us that the manager did not approve and we would in fact have to pay. The hostess upon entry immediately assumed we would want to sit outside (we didn't), and didn't ask our preference until after she asked if we wanted to go on the wait. After being sat inside, our server greeted us and asked what we'd like to drink. My table ordered 2 waters, a tea, and a sprite. Everyone else received their drinks- minus a sprite, which took 15 minutes, because our waitress forgot. We were right by the drink station. Our appetizer, the cucumber bruschetta, took 27 minutes to grace the presence of our table. Our entrees took 50. Upon trying to ask the server about our food because the table behind us, who'd been sat 10 minutes AFTER us, received their food before us, the server became snippy and rude to us. She was not kind and was snippy. She even went so far as to "promise" our food would be out in just a minute, although she took another table their food before us.
