    Catfish etouffee

We were on a mini vacation in the area, and I decided to make reservations here for a dinner date one night! Region's 117 is opened Wed - Sunday, so plan accordingly! It is in a retirement community, which we didn't realize. It was pretty busy at 5:30 pm on a Wednesday! There were some big groups there, I'd recommend a reservation! We were shown to our table right away. Our waitress came by and poured us waters. She took our order all at once (which we love!) We got the crispy brussel sprouts, the pretzel crab dip, and a side Caesar salad. My husband got the gaucho steak and fries while I opted for the catfish etouffee. The apps came out pretty quickly. The brussel sprouts were our absolute favorite. Amazing flavor and textures. Highly recommended. The crab dip was fine, I think we're a little spoiled with crab in Baltimore, so we probably wouldn't get that again. The Caesar salad was good - just a classic Caesar salad. We could've used a bit more dressing. We did get boxes for our leftovers - portions are hugr! Our entrees came a little later, they had some big parties so we weren't too stressed. When the food came out, we were in awe. The etouffee smelled absolutely amazing. Apparently they just brought it back on the menu, and everyone I talked to mentioned how it's their favorite dish and they were so excited it was back. And I can see why. The fish was a HUGE slab and fried perfectly. The sauce was mouthwatering. It had so much flavor and was just SO good. There was a good amount of shrimp and sausage as well. My husband's steak wasn't bad. He loved the sausage it came with. We do wish there was a little more chimmichuri sauce. We ended up also getting dessert because we couldn't resist. We got the creme brulee and the croissant bread pudding. My husband devoured the creme brulee himself. I managed to scrap the dish as the end for a bite, and it was very good. Just a strong standard creme brulee. The croissants bread pudding had a huge scoop of ice cream. And it was just perfect. I could eat that all day. Portions are huge and for a very reasonable price! Our waitress was the absolute best as well. Super friendly and knew what we needed before we even needed it. She was quick and efficent as she also had some really large parties. If I'm ever in the area, I would most definitely come back for those brussel sprouts and catfish etouffee.

We got a reservation here for the end of our honeymoon and words are hard to even describe how lovely this place was! The ease of navigating the website to get a reservation was ideal! Getting there a little early to be seated right away was great! The service was so wonderful! Very kind and helpful staff! The restaurant itself was breathtaking - just beautiful! But the main thing was how AMAZING that food was! We ate a lot of places on our honeymoon and this was at the top! Both our main entrees were amazing! Highly recommend this place!!! If we didn't live so far away we'd be back as regulars all the time!!!

Special: Fried Cod and old bay fries w/ house slaw.

This was fantastic! The fish n' chip special was well battered and fried, not too crispy, not too soft and the filet broke down perfect on each bite. The tartar was thick and creamy and had a nice tartiness to it. Fries were simpler, not over seasoned and not greasy. The Wagyu burger was really special! That thing hit the spot! And the Tiger's Blood cocktail was nice too, made w/ Tito's, watermelon, strawberries, rum and coconut. The atmosphere is very nice too. A little loud inside, so we opted to eat outside on the deck. The experience was very relaxing and the food decadent. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, prompt and seemed to take pleasure in what they do. Everyone was working together to flow things well. I can see why it's a hub for people.

TL;DR: Food poisoning. Would not return. Food (1/5): If I had written this review while still at the restaurant, I would have given the food a 5/5. The flavor was amazing, the portions were generous, and everything tasted great. But about an hour after eating, a few of us got food poisoning. The pulled pork sandwich and the salmon dish made people really sick. Thankfully, no one needed to go to the hospital, but it was an unpleasant experience. Drinks (3/5): The drinks were solid. The sangria was excellent, but one of the other cocktails was overly sweet. Nothing terrible, just not particularly memorable. Desserts (5/5): All of the desserts were fantastic. You really can't go wrong with ice cream and a well-made sweet treat. Ambiance (4/5): This part was a bit odd. There was a wedding happening while we were there, and we were seated right in the walkway leading to the wedding space. If I were the bride, I would not have been thrilled to see diners eating during my entrance or while guests were arriving. Sound also carries a lot in the room, so it gets noisy. On the positive side, the outdoor area is lovely. It overlooks a lake with a nice path down to the water. Parking is plentiful.

This was my second time, and it was another good experience. First time was a friend dinner with mimosas and the short rib grilled cheese. This night was another friend dinner with red wine and the (perfectly cooked, medium rare) steak and frites. Parking is ample, food is reliably good, and the interior is as lovely as the view from outdoor tables. I love Region's 117. Such a great spot for a dinner with girlfriends, family, or a date night. Strongly recommend!

This was my second time here and I loved it just as much as the first. I was expecting a Christmas Eve brunch but it was changed the same day. The sugar cookie martini was fantastic. The Moscato wine was perfect. My boyfriend had the rack of lamb special and loved it. I loved my salmon. It was so cutely decorated the staff was great. Our server took a little bit to get to our table, but other people jumped in and helped. I will definitely be back. This is a new favorite place of mine. I highly recommend trying it.

Good portion sizes overall. Stand outs were the brisket grilled cheese (I'd skip the cabaret aioli next time. Would get regular aioli or bbq sauce). The cheese was a thick cut of cheddar that was good but not gooey melt like other grilled cheeses. Fried chicken sandwich was huge! Good sauce. And get the sweet potato waffle fries or regular fries. Seasoned and perfect crisp! Service was friendly. The restaurant itself was... interesting. It's inside a building with multiple rooms and shops in an open concept floor plan & also open kitchen. Made it feel a little more like a mall food court section.

The service was good. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. I ordered the burger Millionaire Burger and while it looks spectacular when I cut into it was basically raw. They did recook my burger, discount it and give me a free dessert. The manager was so professional, nice and apologized genuinely for the mistake.

I went to Regions 117 THREE times in 3 days because it was so excellent. I got the crab pretzel dip every time and it never disappointed, nor did the gorgeous views on the deck any time of day or night. This place is classy yet approachable-- it doesn't require any dress code but makes you feel like a million bucks with the service and quality of the food. This is absolutely my #1 food place in Virginia!

This isn't your casual night out. It's a full-on food adventure. You walk in and the vibe is already cozy and storybook-like. It's in this adorable little town near Old Rag Mountain (hello, perfect weekend getaway), and the restaurant used to be an actual blacksmith shop. They lean into the theme: your table has your name on it with a tiny anvil, there's a semi-open kitchen and wood-burning hearth, and the whole space feels warm and personal. The stars here are Sarah and Jake, the owners and chefs. They greet you themselves, chat with you like old friends, and then basically feed you a love letter disguised as a tasting menu. The food changes, but here's the vibe: * Little bites to kick things off (think three creative amuses that set the tone). * Dishes that pull from everywhere. One course might be an Asian-inspired dumpling in coconut broth, the next a perfectly refined European ravioli stuffed with fried chicken and veggies. * Wagyu beef cheeks that cook for 18 hours until they practically melt. * Bread service so good you'll be praying they bring more (they do). Every dish is beautifully plated and nothing is heavy or overdone. Everything just hits. Now, the wine pairing. They offer a regular and a reserve tier, and you can do half pours, which I highly recommend if you're driving back (we came from Arlington, about 1.5 hours). The wines themselves are incredible, from European classics to a killer ice wine from Washington State, and they match the food perfectly. A few heads-ups: * There's one seating per night. Everyone dines together, which makes it feel special and communal. * The cost is no joke. For two people with the reserve half pairings and one espresso, we spent around $300 per person. * They charge your card for the reservation ahead of time, then again for the meal and any drinks separately. * Service charge (22%) is already included, and they send you home with a cookie instead of a check (which, honestly, is iconic). We've been wanting to visit for about seven years but always hesitated because of the long drive. This year, we decided to go for it and booked a reservation in March for an October dinner, just to put the demand into perspective. By the end, we were full but not stuffed, a little buzzed, and very, very happy. It's the kind of meal that makes you want to slow down and savor life. Bonus tip: plan a hike or hit a winery while you're out there. Sperryville and the surrounding area are gorgeous. Five stars, no question. If you're celebrating something special or just want to treat yourself to an unforgettable meal, this is the place.

Everything about this restaurant is so welcoming, from the beautiful dining room to being warmly greeted at the door the moment you walk in. The five courses on the menu are inevitably delicious, even if something doesn't necessarily sound like you would enjoy it on paper, and everything goes together so perfectly. The sunchoke soup was almost everyone's favorite course- the creamy, rich soup went so perfectly with the crisp diced Granny smith apples and the grated black truffle- but there wasn't a bad thing. I highly recommend trying the NA mocktail pairing for one of the most interesting and unique beverage experiences I've had in the DMV. I drink alcohol but have still chosen this both times because it is so much fun and so interesting to see what the kitchen comes up with. Every single mocktail was so creative. If you do opt for wine, I really appreciate that you can get a "short pour" of about half the normal pour- typically wine pairings end up being too much alcohol for me, and this is a great alternative that still lets you enjoy the pairings. It is well worth the extra bit of money to opt for the reserve pairings. We were celebrating two milestone birthdays, and the entire Three Blacksmiths team really made it feel like the special occasion it was. At the end of the meal, both of our guests were presented with a signed menu that came with a personalized handwritten note. I have seen signed menus before but never with such a special and personal touch. Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants anywhere and so worth the six month wait from when you book your table!

The timing coincided with…read moreVirginia's state tourism office declining to pay a reported ~$360,000 fee to expand Michelin coverage into more of the state. Others see it as part of a wider "reset" affecting other longtime three-star spots like Alinea (Chicago) and Masa (New York), which also dropped to two stars at the same time. I'm not completely sure why the slight decline but here's my honest view. The scenic drive from DC through the Virginia countryside sounds breathtaking--rolling hills, charming small towns, glimpses of Blue Ridge Mountains but in actuality all of the turns and hills made myself and friend sick. We had to pull over and gather ourselves. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, filled with artwork, pink, green and gold monkey wallpaper and Victorian tables, and English country style. It's maximalist--opulent without being stuffy. Our waitstaff made the evening extra special for my birthday. They constantly wished me a happy birthday, asked thoughtful questions about my life, shared jokes, and engaged in small talk that felt genuine and personal. Not to mention the menu with my name. Each course on the 7-course tasting menu was beautifully presented. We loved having three menu options to choose from: a new seasonal tasting (always fresh and surprising), Enduring Classics (with signature dishes like the iconic lobster preparations or herb-crusted favorites), and a full vegetarian Good Earth menu with the eggplant course being our favorite. The unlimited warm bread service with fresh butter and flaky sea salt was a simple but perfect touch. The Champagne options were endless (their wine list is legendary, with a massive cellar and expert sommeliers), and they even offered a dedicated book/menu highlighting rare waters from around the world--everything from iceberg sources to unique mineral springs. I've never seen a water book before. Standouts for me was the caviar egg, lamb main course and tomato amuse-bouche. If you're looking for a special occasion spot (birthday, anniversary, or just because), this is it. Four people will run you around $2500 including drinks. Con- I would work on the cocktail menu (the Diana tasted like cough medicine). Bring back the pear dessert and portion sizes from 12 years ago. My main lamb portion was embarrassing. We've been lucky enough to dine at a few Michelin star and bib gourmand restaurants ton include some coveted 3 star spots! A few weeks before our res, we saw the Inn was downgraded from 3 to 2 stars and unfortunately, I can see why from this visit. For context, this visit was $1500 for the 2 of us and included one wine pairing and the cheese cow. At that price point, I would say the meal and experience were not worth it. The food: the food was both great and okay. There are a few dishes that are extremely exciting. I had the vegetarian menu, while my husband had the classics. The egg, carpaccio, eggplant, and cheese cow were the stars. Everything else was good, but not outstanding. Pineapple and Pearls (another Michelin restaurant in DC) offers a more exciting menu at about the same price. The service: this is where the loss of a star became annoyingly apparent to me. It might seem bratty, but for $1500 and a Michelin spot, you expect a napkin folded when you get back from the bathroom and adequate spacing between courses. My husband noted he felt the meal was rushed. For one dish, they brought me the wrong silverware and at the end of the meal, they forgot the coffees we ordered and our takeaway gift (little chocolates in a cutesy paper house). They also asked if we wanted time with our cocktails before the meal began and we said yes, but they brought us the cocktail, wine pairing, and first course all at once. The staff is so kind and awesome! I don't want to take away from how welcoming and nice everyone was. The service itself just lacked *at a Michelin star level*. If I was paying, say, $500 instead of $1500, I would be thrilled with the meal! The ambiance is very cool and true to the brand of The Inn. When you leave the bathroom, you'll see all of the historic guests who have eaten out of Patrick O'Connell's kitchen and it feels a bit surreal. The famous chef did his rounds of the dining room, which frankly was the highlight of the night. He's an absolute legend. Okay, that was a long one. To The Inn, I'm sorry!
