If you're craving a dining experience that blends incredible food, warm hospitality, and genuine care, Bistro SOJO in downtown Winchester is an absolute must-visit. From the effortless reservation process to the moment we stepped inside, everything was smooth and inviting. The lovely Ms. Jean greeted us with a smile that made us feel right at home, while Ms. Angel, the general manager, shared such kind conversation that it felt like catching up with old friends. Our server, Tyler, delivered exceptional service. He was attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. We were also delighted when Mr. Felix, the owner, stopped by to check in on our meal, a gesture that truly speaks to the heart of this restaurant's hospitality. The food? Absolutely outstanding. The salmon, paired with buckwheat vinaigrette, arugula, and goat cheese, was light, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. The lamb chops, cooked to a perfect medium, were tender and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was rich and satisfying! To top it all off, we were treated to a complimentary hibiscus lemonade, which was as refreshing as it was thoughtful; a perfect, colorful addition to a flawless meal. From start to finish, Bistro SOJO delivered an unforgettable evening. Great food, great people, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like family. We'll definitely be back!

Incredible food, ambiance and service! This restaurant has mastered every detail. When you first arrive, you are greeted with a complimentary beverage. This made my husband and I reminisce on our time in Greece, where we were met with the same warm hospitality. We ordered a few cocktails, which were all amazing. We then started with some appetizers - the cod fritters and lamb skewers. These were both great. For the entrees, three of us ordered the oxtail and one ordered the lamb shank. These dishes were exceptional and packed so much flavor. The owners and staff were all very friendly, informative and welcoming. They even let us know about a couple upcoming events that they are planning. Bistro Sojo is an incredible addition to Winchester!

Great food and atmosphere. Everything we had was good but the standout for me was the lamb shank and tahini chocolate chip ice cream. Definitely suggest a reservation because it is small and busy. A lovely way to spend an evening.

A delightful little juice that was so so fragrant. Ginger flowers it was just yummy. Have I used too much in these descriptions?

Food was ok, service was horrible, prices are pushing the limits of too high. Ambiance too crowded. Cafeteria style.

Favorites were the rich, thickly textured, moderately spicy palm nut soup with goat and beef, the dark and flavorful waakye rice and bean dish, the chicken suya, and the jollof rice. All the sauces were delicious. The fried turkey tail dish was well-prepared, but not my favorite. Portions were generous and every dish offered great value. We'll definitely go back. Dining in was comfortable but utilitarian and no frills. The pace was un-rushed--perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable dinner, but it wouldn't be ideal if you were in a hurry. If you've never tried west African food, I highly recommend this restaurant.

The food is Ghanaian so you'll find a lot of west African staples here. I ordered their Suya rice with chicken and beef. My wife ordered the acheke with fried fish and ordered a plate of jollof to take home. The suya fried rice was my favorite dish. It's one of their own creations but it's a fried rice with suya spice in it. It's not as spicy as I personally like, but I'm a huge fan of spice so I imagine it's a good level for most people. The jollof was also pretty good. I'll say that the chicken and beef in both the jollof and suya fried rice were a little dry, but they had good flavor to them so it can be overlooked. The acheke was standard for what I expect from it. The fried fish could have used a little bit of seasoning but was fine to go with it. Food took about 20 mins to be cooked but I appreciate that it's done fresh. The service was great! Kevin was the one who took our order and helped us with any additional requests while we ate. Definitely love the soul he adds to the restaurant. The ambiance is pretty casual. The one thing to note is that the parking lot can be a bit small so parking may take more than one try if you have a bigger car.

At first glance, I wasn't impressed ( yeah yeah judging a book by its cover... I know better) I was wrong. The food was very flavorful, generous, and downright satisfying. We started with the sambusas (meat and veggie). They were good, though a bit mild (personally for me), I still give the edge to an Indian samosa, but that's just me. The combo is absolutely the move. We shared a three-person platter with lamb, beef, and chicken tibs, plus a variety of vegetarian dishes (see photos). Everything came served on rolls of injera, the spongy Ethiopian flatbread. This is a hands-on meal. As in, you eat with your fingers. Yes... it was glorious. The presentation is classic Ethiopian style: a large platter lined with injera, topped with meats and vegetables spread out like they're feeding 50 million people. The trick is to tear off the injera under the food, not the extra rolls, because it soaks up all that flavorful gravy. It's harder than it sounds, but totally worth it. The main dishes were very flavorful. I was genuinely impressed by both the quantity and the depth of flavor across the entire meal. These are the happy surprises I live for. Highly recommend giving it a try.

I don't have a lot of African experience, so I was instantly intrigued. After a morning of exploring the Prince William Forest, we came here for a good lunch. As a guy who's not well versed in the cuisine, I asked for advice, and I was lead in the right direction. I can't seem to find the exact menu item, but I know it the main focal point was that jollof rice. Man, the flavors in that rice were very new to me, and very delicious. Lots of good heat, but not spicy at all. You gotta try it. Also on my place was some sort of meat, some sort of delicious fish on the bone, a nice hard boiled egg, and some sweet plantains. Along with a small salad. Good meat, good sauce. Love eating meat off the bone, adds so much good flavor. Just a really nice meal. I also got some Sweet Plantain Balls (Caclo) as an app. These things were amazing! I usually don't like plantains, But these were very soft, coated in a tangy, umami powder, again a new thing for me. Overall, I very much enjoyed this place. If you're ever in Dumfries, VA, I would highly recommend you stop by, as this was the best food I had the whole time I was in town!
